The Official Borderlands 2 Thread

Gee thanks Randy Pitchford, for Tweeting some Shift codes to get another Golden Key in the middle of the work day. And, of course, going to the Shift site and logging in doesn't allow you to actually input codes...basically the site has zero purpose right now other than just putting in/changing your account info.

Meh, if you're on PC, just edit the ini file and give yourself more keys.

10k limit? Damnit Randy, unemployed people at home don't need extra gold keys, they have all the time in the world to grind! ;)

It's not even so much the time as it is the fact that the Shift website is completely useless.

Someone on the GB forums was saying that they are trying to implement code redemption on the website, so hopefully they get that going soon. And hopefully they don't stop doing these code giveaways shortly thereafter.

No tweaks here yet, game is too good to take even the shortest break hehe.. and plays real well !

Craving that vertical FOV fix and some shadow clean up if possible. Would be good to get rid of co-op player micro-stutter as well, but its only noticeable when we are running. During combat there is too much going on :D

Moxxi´s shotgun has been a real heart breaker here for a few levels, combine it with a good preparation of slag grenades and a rocket launcher in the other hand and its complete mayhem. Just awesome rate of fire and incendiary damage. I would like another one if anyone wants to trade. Could be fun to gunzerk with two Moxxi´s.

Thoughts:

- Bazillion guns, but they're all white or otherwise unimpressive, and there's apparently far less variety in the weapon design as others have pointed out. The Torgue rifles ALL being gyrojet is boring.

- I have a minecraft head and it's amazingly ridiculous

- I just got moxxi's shotgun and am loving it too; pop someone with a slag gun, or suspend them with my siren's bubble thing which gives me increased damage and RoF - ended up destroying wave after wave of Goliaths and Badass Nomads in seconds in Fink's Slaughterhouse. If anyone picked the relic over the shotgun they must be kicking themselves

- Missions with multiple endings are a bit dumb - if one of you makes a decision, it applies to all of you instead of you being able to each choose individually

- Are there enough fucking snow areas jesus christ

- Guns are boring, again. SO BORING compared to the first. Every sniper rifle: burst fire when zoomed. Every shotgun or SMG: accuracy increases as you shoot. Every pistol: nothing. Maybe they burn or corrode, but otherwise that's basically it.

Yeah...87 bazillion guns and yet...I've gotten either extremely similar or the EXACT SAME gun more than once. That should NEVER happen with that many randomly-generated weapons.

I've heard that as you get higher level, there is more variety. But so far (at level 15) it's pretty meh.

However:

Every sniper rifle: burst fire when zoomed. Every shotgun or SMG: accuracy increases as you shoot. Every pistol: nothing. Maybe they burn or corrode, but otherwise that's basically it.

That is not true. Those attributes are manufacturer-specific. Burst fire is Dahl, accuracy increase is Hyperion, elemental damage is generally Maliwan.

True, and explosive gyrojet nonsense is Torgue. However, in 21 levels with one character, 11 with another and two other at 6, it's nearly always been on particular weapons also. I've had one burst-fire SMG that I can recall, and one scoped rifle that got more accurate as you fired. But to those two I've gone through about 4 or 5 of each of the above. Poo stinky.

What mission do you get moxxi's shotgun?

Much to my delight, the Shift code still works. Got another Golden Key!

I have 3 now, but for some reason my GF has 4. I signed up for Shift through Borderlands 2 on her account so maybe that's why?

My GF has a burst-fire Eridium sniper rifle (railgun?) that is pretty cool, except the burst fire exhausts like more than half the clip in one shot.

Recovering the russian guy's chest from Caustic Canyons or whatever it's called.

Me too. Nearly every one I've found which has otherwise decent stats will expend 6 rounds out of a magazine of 7, making it horrible to use. This is what I mean by there being no real variety that I can tell - there are no slow-firing but hard-hitting ones juxtaposed by burst-firing, lower-damage ones. Every time I see one with some interesting stats it's also got a fucking burst feature when scoped, which is hopeless on the majority of them. I'll see something, compare it to my existing one (which has a burst function), see it's more accurate, does more damage and elemental whatever and blah, so I swap it out and it's still a bastarding burst one that has a magazine size of five which all gets pissed away uselessly. It's madness.

I finally found a decent rifle. 600+ dam. With high corrosive damage. I'm lvl 24. Had some nice ones here and there but too many with burst, which is annoying as hell. Liking the game so far, I just don't understand why they made the assassin have Range+melee skills...

Fun times indeed!

well the game is fun however i hate the fact that you cant just do the normal missions or it will get super hard like i am level 15 while the units are level 19 and 20.

the guns are too weak to damage them well and when you kill them you dont get that much xp.

so you got to do the sub missions to level up more.

the important part is when you choose to do them, since the gear and xp scales by character and mission progress. if you notice the difficulty level in the description, some of them are labeled as trivial by the time you get them, those can be skipped if you're just looking to level up. then just focus on the normal/challenging ones and the loot is pretty rewarding, best way is to take a break in between each story mission to train up and derp around with your gear for a bit with the side quests.

also make sure to check all containers, the way gear is generated you can get random epic loot from basically anywhere. the best gun I found so far, a pink vladof slag rifle was taken out of some random dumpster in caustic caverns, as well as my best shield from one of those generic rows of lockers.

thats the way I felt about the ai core when I went to zed instead of marcus, got some lame ass shield and instantly regretted it, good thing I read this right before turning in the marcus quest, this time I'm getting the gun for sure. plus I stuck with the 5% rarity boost relic for maya and my drop experience has been really different from yours, a ton of variety with all sorts of elementals that are mostly green or better, so I'm afraid to replace it with anything else. only thing is the stats usually suck, the rarity system is just totally fubar imo. I actually find whites with better stats than green or blue on the same levels all the time, that are worth like half as much but can actually have way more damage and accuracy. so make sure to check stats as well, the color is a rough guide at best.

and holy shit those tediore guns, I want to meet the guy at gearbox who came up with this batshit retarded idea, and give him a swift punch in the balls. I bet it was that jackass pitchford, he was quoted for saying how the tediore brand was designed to be "cheap throwaway guns that blow up". this in my opinion is the single worst weapon idea anyone has ever come up with, bar none. I want to give them an out, and say it's probably been done before, but I can't think of a single other.

as if created by someone who doesn't even play games, like "oh hey guis i got a neat idea, lets make a weapon that discourages habitual reloading, and wastes all your ammo while increasing the chance of killing yourself at the same time, i bet that would be super great fun for the kids."

any time I find one it's either instantly tossed or sold, unless it has amazing stats, and even then I feel an inner rage for being stuck with them the whole time I'm using it, and ditch them immediately asap. thankfully so far by level 20 I've only run into a few keepers and not for too long, all of which were blue or purple.

the level design gets way better later on as well, I was thinking the same thing like wtf is going on with all this snow, but then they started showing some variety. caustic caverns I was especially impressed with, on full physics it's got this fine mix of greasy/cloudy/crystalline that makes some great eye candy. only thing that screwed it up was the pacing, could've been fixed by a single vending station somewhere in the middle I think. your guy is really hurting for ammo by the time you get to the abanded mine area, and going back up that service shaft just constantly respawns enemies, it's ridiculous. I must have spent about 10 grand in ammo and respawns just trying to beat that gotdamn op flaming thresher, until my dumbass realised there was an inaccessible cliff right nearby, and killed it with ease.

The one thing I find a bit lacking is class mod diversity; so far for Zero there are 3-4 different styles of mods, without large improvement that I've seen even in 10 levels. THe other issue is that most of the mods that have +skills have them deep in different trees, making it impossible to get the benefit out of them. I don't like that they require you to have at least 1 point in any skill to allow the mod to actually work.

That is how BL1 works

That was another thing I'd noticed - ammo drops give a pitiful amount of ammo. I don't remember you getting so little in the first, but I think I get about 5 or 6 rounds from each dropped ammo item.

Fun times indeed!

That is insane! :D

A 1300 dmg. sniper drop is very nice at level 28. Mine is 408 dmg. and the encounters are still a walk over for the Gunzerker. So this was a clean drop and no golden key exploit I take it?

This whole Golden Key situation is making me want to avoid duels completely. Personally I would lose interest in the game if I had an infinite random selection of power guns. Pretty much all the drops instantly become uninteresting, and waving goodbye to the loot mechanic in this game is a huge loss.

Well back to Sanctuary, I have a lot of loot to clean out :D and the day off work !

Sorry for the double post, but get a Ammo Regen Class Mod. And never worry about ammo again, combine it with an Absorption Shield and you are more than covered.

Basically this renders a huge part of the Gunzerker skill tree useless. Don't know what class you are.

Personally I love my corrosive Tediore shotgun, but then again I only get 3 shots or so (Gunzerker with that skill that gives you a chance of not consuming ammo) out of it before I have to reload anyway. Not to mention, there's badass challenges for killing enemies with the reload mechanic. Plus I've got the class mod that gives my team regenerating ammo so it's almost never a problem for us.

Yep, I only have 2 keys, and I'm saving them for 50.

Theoretically I could boost the damage higher if i had a friend to slag the target dummy while I'm in deception. And it can go even higher out on the field if I could kill another enemy and get the kill buff.

For normal use, crits are 12k, first shot full zoom buff crits are 26k, so that should last me for a very very long time.

In True Vault Hunter mode the first sniper that dropped for me was 2K at 28. Then at 30 immediately got one for 4K, the jump is ridiculous.

I got on to play for an hour or two with a friend before sleep, it was then 1AM when I looked at the clock, after what seemed like 5 seconds. WTF?

What is this witchcraft?

The code was from Randy Pitchford's Twitter. When you sign up and link your Steam account you should get a key automatically without needing a code.

Yeah, I've noticed the same issue. It's like with combat rifles, the only ones I find that do decent damage are semi automatic, do explosive damage (even when it's not listed in their stats) and the projectiles travel so slow that if they are moving and your beyond arms reach your going to miss a lot.

That was another thing I'd noticed - ammo drops give a pitiful amount of ammo. I don't remember you getting so little in the first, but I think I get about 5 or 6 rounds from each dropped ammo item.

Yeah, ammo availability has been knocked back a lot.

Also it's strange because it seems that it rotates between now allowing me to pick up ammo if that type is full, and never showing as full even when I am and allowing me to pick up ammo (and thus loosing it into a black hole.)

how did you get the code? I signed up, did the validate registration thing and that was it. I never heard anyhing else. I also linked my steam account to it.

When I started the game after signing up for shift I logged into Shift from the game menu and I got the key automatically.

Also last night Randy Pitchford, the President of Gearbox software, posted codes on twitter for a free gold key, he posted one for PC, one for PS3 and one for the Xbox.

The PC one was KBCJ3-KX9B6-XTBJT-TT33B-C9ZR3 although I'm not sure if it's still good since he stated it was only valid for the first 10k uses.

You have to pay particular attention to manufacturer in BL2. Everything from Torgue fires "Gyrojets" and does explosive damage.

Yeah, I've started shooting each weapon, regular and zoomed, before I sell them or decide to sell something else and use them, just so I don't screw up again.

Although the crappy inventory system doesn't make it easy, boy I miss the UI from BL1.

pretty sure it's similar or maybe even better, each pack only gave a few rounds from what I remember. not so bad since every level is just littered with containers, and a positive side effect imo is that it keeps you checking them all the time. which increases your chances of finding good loot, you never know when rng will give you an epic gun/shield/booster instead of that half mag of ammo. best rifle I got so far was pulled from a dumpster while I was just scrounging for a few rounds of ammo.

That is insane! :D

yea it's lame but not such a big deal imo, couldn't you just grind bosses to achieve the same effect? some can be killed over and over again, each time dropping better and better loot relative to the mission level. like one of the earlier bosses, capt. flynt drops the standard tinderbox pistol your first time around I think for everyone, but when I went back and killed him again during some side quest after, he dropped a way better orange one, even though it was well below my level by then.

I don't see much of a difference between spending a key and just killing bosses, the latter is even more efficient going by what I've seen from level 50s grinding the warrior, at a certain point you will be able to kill it in a few shots, and every time it dies there are purples raining all over the place that you can just keep farming over and over, not just the 1 or 2 guns you get for each key.

it's pointless to wait imo, those weapons will be way more useful to you at low level than when you're already sitting on a pile of epic gear. I pulled 2 great guns from it when I first got to sanctuary, and they stayed as the base of my loadout for the next 20 levels until I finally found something better. it becomes much easier to wade through the shitty drops you get all game, when you always have a couple good ones to fall back on, kind of like a benchmark standard so you know what to keep.

Interesting. I'm going to have to start trying some of those random other guns out now.
Anyone have a handy quick list of what each manufacturer's guns do?

You can add a star on the right of the weapon icon in the inventory so you dont accidentally sell something you want to keep. You can also add an X for trash. The UI in BL2 is better imo. Way easier to compare stats in BL2.

Also what is a gyrojet?

Interesting. I'm going to have to start trying some of those random other guns out now.
Anyone have a handy quick list of what each manufacturer's guns do?

Jacobs = semi-auto, high dmg
Dahl = burst fire when zoomed
Hyperion = gets more accurate as you fire
Vladof = full auto, low dmg
Maliwan = fire, corrosive, electrical dmg
Torgue = explosive gyrojet rounds
Tediore, explodes when reloaded

Hmm, I know these off the top of my head:

Tediore gets thrown like a grenade whenever you reload. Reloading early causes it to do extra damage but it always consumes the entire clip of ammo.

Maliwan always has elemental damage.

I think Jakob's always does high damage.

Vladof usually has a high rate of fire that can increase as you hold the trigger, or fires as fast as you can click for semi-auto variants.

Bandit has high capacity magazines.

Torgue has the explosive spiral 'gyrojet' projectiles.

Hyperion usually has better accuracy, and increases accuracy as you hold down the trigger.

Dahl has burst fire when zoomed.

You know if you accidentally sell an item you know you wanted to keep, there's a buy back button.

Yeah, I can't remember for certain, but I'm pretty sure I found a legendary shield drop from smashing those Bullymong piles. Definitely can find some good stuff with random piles/boxes, not just enemies and chests.

I think Jakob's always does high damage.

Yup, high damage, but typically small magazine size and "lower tech"...I don't think I've ever seen an elemental Jakobs. It's fairly uncommon for them to have a scope, except for sniper rifles (which is a nice change...even most of the Jakobs sniper rifles didn't have scopes in BL1). Great for sniper rifles and revolvers.

Yeah, I don't think Jakob's ever had elemental damage in BL1 either IIRC. They make some nice sniper rifles though.

Matter of fact, are there even sniper rifles in BL2 that don't have scopes? Can't say I remember coming across any that didn't.
