7970 Purchasing Thread

Just called a local MicroCenter to see if they have them at the store and ready for sale Monday morning, the sales rep didn't have a clue on what an HD 7970 was :(

The Microcenter in Orange County, CA is supposed to have 7970's in stock at MSRP, on Monday.

I had 2 in my cart for GizmosForLife but backed out. UGGHH I need to mediate and be patient lol

When I changed the shipping from standard ($61) to 2 day it went down to like $23!???! That's what scared me, really shady.

Curious if major online vendors (newegg, tiger etc) will open the flood gates at midnight, or is it just going to be a random time that morning/day?

Well I remember I was refreshing like may at midnight for my HD 5970. I didn't see them at newegg till 3PM EST. Trust me that was aloooooong night. When I did get it through it was a relief. I think the the top two internet comptuter hardware site are newegg and tigerdirect right?

Can't you guys just wait till newegg puts them up instead of this amazon monkey business

Some people don't have patience :p In their minds it will be soldout within 1 minutes of every supply of HD 7970 in the world. I will be playing the F5 game and refreshing this thread to see if who got it first and hopefully will provide a link to the site.

I plan on F5ing amazon and newegg to see what pops up. 6950 just isn't up to eyefinity with the detail i want.

Amazon has $3.99 next day shipping (or free 2-day) and doesn't charge tax. Those are two very good reasons why some would prefer them over Newegg.

really? how come I didn't know that?

If next day shipping is less than $5 I will be doing that.

If you have a Chase Freedom CC purchases from Amazon are 5% cashback right now too, will be ordering from there if they sell at or around MSRP.

There is a reason 99.9% of us are waiting on Newegg. The difference with then is they actually have stock when you order something and you know you are getting it. I've musta read 100 stories on HardOCP where someone ordered something and they just ended up "pissed" they never got it, or that their card got charged but it took them 3 months to get the item, etc etc. Screw that. I've never taken that chance and never world. While imho I've had to stop using Newegg for day to day items due to them no longer always being the best place to get something they are still the lesser of the two evils when it comes to something like this. The devil you know is better than the devil you don't.

I can't do new egg. Wish I could. Mark-up plus tax plus shipping...just isn't worth it. I'm hoping to jump on an Amazon deal.

I think tomorrow they go on sale officially (9th) could be wrong. I am really waiting on some cheaper non-reference models to come out so I can get 4 of them. I do want to see quad scaling real world reviews first. That or 3 cards. My dream is to get 100fps avg in BF3 in Ultra mode @ 5760x1200.

Just grabbed mine here in the UK. Novatech, Portsmouth. £460 for an ASUS model.

ooohh that gives us some hope! I'd prefer an Asus model over any others.

I understand some of the benefits of a non-reference card would be OC'ed from the vendor and better cooling on specific models.
So what are the benefits of reference cards at launch, other than ordering/getting them on release date? Trying to decide if it may be worth waiting till non-ref cards come out.

Guaranteed fit of aftermarket coolers which might come later (from Arctic Cooling for example), waterblocks.

I'd go ref only with an inherently silent card (I don't believe 7970 to be that from all the stuff I've read) or if I planned to watercool it, otherwise - just wait for Asus, MSI or Sapphire to come up with their cooling solutions.

Would be a tough wait, but like the idea of aftermarket cooling. Any other thoughts?

any ideas when newegg will make the listings? and is newegg.ca on the ball with the listings?

they are probably on back order because they aren't listing their inventory yet

Yes... I prefer external hot air exhaust, but I finally convinced myself on waiting for the possible 6 DP & 6GB model(s). Gonna stretch what I have a little longer if need be. If the 6GB model doesn't exist then I'll upgrade later. The way MOD graphic packs are going on multi-displays, I have trouble thinking 3GB will be enough. And who knows, maybe I'll expand to 5 displays.... ;)

Yeah I just hope amazon has them in stock tomorrow. I signed up with chase with this GPU in mind. Spend $600 or something in the first 3 months and get $300 back.

I thought there were going to be non-reference models at launch cooling-wise and oc-wise, that ATI/AMD had allowed them for this launch?

Hoping to catch amazon or newegg, I have shoprunner for the 'egg and prime for amazon.

Would be great if there are non-ref models tomorrow, hopefully something can be discovered today.

i'm really hoping to find an XFX black edition, considering [H] has one in their possession.

I too am watching Amazon like a hawk. Got a great deal with the Amazon Store Card and Prime. woot! Plus, no sales tax for me but Newegg has a warehouse in NJ so I'm screwed there.

odd, i just looked through my amazon order history and i've been charged sales tax on some items and not on others. all were sold by 'Amazon.com LLC' which i assume means they were not through a third-party. Newegg doesn't charge me sales tax so it looks like that's who i'll be watching tonight :D

All the reference cards are the same. The only thing vendors do is maybe BIOS switches and different stickers.

so you think they will come up on newegg @ 12 eastern or pacific?

Newegg is kinda strange sometimes when it comes to that stuff. Sometimes not until the morning when the work day starts.

I think we won't see them on Newegg until morning hours tomorrow. But I'll still be staying up just in case.
