7970 Purchasing Thread

ASUS makes quality stuff in my experience and their GPU tweak utility looks nice, allowing voltage adjustment of the card. that being said, the rest of us can just use afterburner.

BIOS flash would easily solve that. Kind of what I had to do whenever the 5870 was first released. I flash with a Asus BIOS so I could get my clocks past 900MHz (MSI Afterburner implemented it later on).

Find me a Sapphire Flex 6G. That's the one that looks the most interesting to me.

I just want one without the stock, reportedly-noisy cooler... would love some extra thermal headroom too.

Just ordered Sapphire from newegg.ca :D First time ordering from newegg.ca....what are they like shipping time?

Ordered 2 xfx reference from newegg. We'll see if amazon comes in stock before it ships.

Ordered two Sapphire 7970's to start off with. Hat's off to Newegg for not price gouging.

Iv ordered load from newegg.ca and my orders have been quite consistent

From Ont warehouse - 4-7 business days
From NJ warehouse - 5-7 Business days
From Cali warehouse - 7-14 business days

This is for Newfoundland tho so depending on were you live it may be quicker.

Edit: Just so you can help figure it out, usually takes 2 days from N.B. depots to local Newfoundland Depot.

I'm ordering from Nfld, hopefully I get it this week :)

Any reason for the sapph over the others? Just personal experience?

All reference cards come from the same factory. There certainly no reason the Asus card is $40 more than all the others. That is a rip-off. The only thing companies like Asus and Sapphire do is adjust BIOS if they want, different packaging and accessories and different stickers on reference cards.

Sapphire usually has a good price and good accessories.

Gigabyte and XFX stock nearly out of stock as well. Boy, I feel sorry for all the people that are at work right now thinking they can get off, come home, log in and wait for midnight. They are going to be upset to see some of these models, maybe most, sold out. There might be a dirty old Power Color left or two for a few to fight over lol.

Has anyone had rma experience with sapph? I remember having issues several years back with them and haven't gone with them since, but if they've gotten better...

Is that Amazon XFX card viable for shipping tomorrow? It says 1-3 weeks

The cards may be the same but the warranties aren't. For example, Asus' warranty is three years, Sapphire's is two. Whether that's worth $40 is up to each person. As you said, Sapphire's 7970 is bundled with many more cables and adapters than any of the other vendors.

Might be worth 40 bucks to some, but more then likely people over here at [H] will have new GPU's before 2 years.

Honestly 40 bucks would be worth the extra year to me, but I know I wont have the card that long.

Hehe, I'd be on two generations of future GPU's by the time a Sapphire 2 year warranty runs out.

More interested in the warranties being transferable so when you sell them In a year or two, it's more appealing.

I currently have a HIS HD 5970. I replaced the HIS 5970 bios with a sapphire HD 5970 OC bios and it's been error free. I also had a Sapphire 9800 XT back in the days. That brand has been very good to me in the past. Just like EVGA when I was getting Nvidia cards. I don't want to say XFX is bad but man did I read a good amount of negative posts about them when they do their revision 2.0 cards of the 69xx series. So I'm sticking with sapphire. I am already planning to replace the TIM at day one anyways :p

It is interesting that the stock XFXs showed up only after the "Black" edition went OOS

Looking at all the card photo's, Sapphire has the most accessories and XFX the least. All the others are somewhere in between.

Would have gotten a "black" but oh well, got me a sapphire!

I don't know that it even had heatpipes from the looks of it... not seeing any in the photos . Kinda glad I missed that one about now considering that, vaguely.
