Avowed (Obsidian RPG)

no it wasnt, youre pulling a cnn...
Dude… follow the entire discussion through to the end.

What do you think it means when you call someone ‘a tourist’ or at least endorse that, or at least don’t push back on it.

You’re saying the person hasn’t played the game… that they’re just passing through… the conclusion being that they’re not really fit to be talking in depth about the game.

I completely agree with this.

You can’t say to me, having finished Outlaws once and The Veilguard twice, that your opinion is as informed as mine is because although you’ve never even launched the game, you’ve watched YouTube videos.

I mean, Jesus… beam me up, Scotty.

This game is going to be amazing for like 0.0021% of gamers.

In all seriousness the game looks good. But I won't buy it on principle, I don't like how western studios are treating potential customers. If this dude would have just ignored Elon Musk, instead of saying "OOooooHHH MY games going to trigger him so bad.... AND BTW If you're black I might have a job for you!!!", he wouldn't have looked like such a dipshit. This guy compromised Obsidian Entertainment, yea they were kind of falling off, but the studio was still respected. Matt Hansen definitely didn't help the studio, he might have actually killed it.

Also, character designs are the usual trope of not being attractive. Not a single female in that video has any sex appeal what so ever. The males don't look particularly masculine. Like they all order soy latte's and worry about micro aggressions.

They don't think its that bad design wise. Though they do have the classic Bethesda/Obsidian crappy character animations and whatnot. These two studios just struggle to put out life like people.

The graphics look quite dated in general. Most UE4 games put it to shame graphically and this is supposed to be on UE5. The more I see of it, the more 'meh" it becomes for me. Really depends on how much they allow the player to influence the story/outcomes/approaches to solutions. I hope that is where the effort went, otherwise it doesn't look too good.

In today's climate I tend to let one bad apple spoil the bunch. Decision making on whether to buy a game or not has become so much easier these days.

These are bad character designs and character models. They do have a dated look to them but even so, Bethesda and a lot of the studios doing this crap now have done better work in the past. The women here are blocky and look manly in terms of their body shapes and proportions. This could be because the character modelers are totally shit at their jobs or it could be the usual defeminization of women in Western games. The lack of feminine curves and shoulders like a linebacker lead me to believe that its the latter. Like modern Bethesda games, the environments look solid if nothing else.

This game looks like crap to me. It literally looks like something we've all played dozens of times before. The environments look good, but western RPG's like this are stuck in that dated Bethesda style. Not just the shitty character models but the combat systems, inventory, etc. all have that same look and feel. This looks like a Bethesda game. If I didn't know it was from Obsidian, I'd assume it was just another Bethesda title or an older one that's been modded to bring the graphics up to date.

I couldn't agree more.

It's racist garbage. Thus, the guy saying that is garbage.

This kind of rot only sets in when its infiltrated nearly every level of the company. Again, the people that made games like Fallout New Vegas don't work there anymore. The veterans who do either keep quiet for fear of losing their jobs or they are infected with the same indoctrination that makes people say crap like Matt Hansen has said.

Unfortunately, with Microsoft's backing the game can be an outright failure and it probably won't cost enough people their job to teach anyone a lesson. They'll do everything they can to prop the game's numbers up to make it look like its successful so they can gaslight people into believing that pushing this kind of political ideology and pandering to a modern audience that doesn't exist won't immediately kill a game's sales or result in a studio being dismantled for its failures. This kind of crap only emboldens other studios to walk the same path. Fortunately, they'll all lose in the long run. Making bad product that your customers don't want isn't sustainable.

Sounds like Hershy hit the sauce kinda early tonight.

Back OT.
If this is going to be another Outerworlds type game, I sure hope it is longer and more spread out and they don't have the NPC's 2 inches away from your face during convos.
I'm trying to keep a open mind here despite all the evidence that is being presented, that this game will not be as bad as say Suicide Squad and or Uknown 9.

Wait… lol… this getting harder and harder to follow.

So somebody picked a fight with the most cringey CEO on the planet and now I’m supposed to boycott Avowed?

Alright then!

I guess I’m hopping on the hate train! Yay Elon! Fuck Obsidian! Fuck the pronoun people! Fuck Avowed! Fuck DEI!

Yay to not playing games and just posting continuous hatred at the gaming forums! Let’s all be friends and save gaming together! We can do it! I am one hundred percent certain they’re watching this forum and listening to us.
Hershy, you have got to be thee most annoying person in this forum. I will block you and hope to never read another thread or post from you. SMH

You all know there's an ignore option right?

I am still holding out hope for this game. I hope that it's good since it has been way too long since we had a good first person magic RPG. I haven't really enjoyed one since playing Skyrim when it first launched.

Yeah...

I've never ignored anyone, in any forum, I love the drama.

If this game could even come close to being around 75% of Skyrim AND have mod support, I would be a happy camper.

If he was hitting the sauce, it would explain a lot. I'm not technically ignoring his posts at this point but I've quit responding to him because he's demonstrated that he isn't capable of having an intellectually honest conversation about anything. He continually misquotes and misunderstands virtually everything. And finally, I'm not going to respond to his gaslighting. An example of this is denying DEI / wokeness in Dragon Age the Veilguard and telling everyone that the game simply doesn't have that stuff in it. This is demonstrably false as there is video evidence that it does. (Even though most of it is contained to Taash's dialog and loyalty mission.)

Side note: My girlfriend has played both Andromeda and is currently at 63 hours into Dragon Age the Veilguard and absolutely agrees that Andromeda has better combat.

I don't think it will be as bad as Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League or Unknown 9. I have no reason to believe that Obsidian is as inept as Reflector Entertainment or Rocksteady. Despite the racist ramblings of one TDS inflicted whacko, Avowed has the same game director as Fallout New Vegas. Unknown 9's developer was practically staffed by people from SBI and was Kim Bellair's pet project. Unless SBI and Kim Bellair have that same level of involvement with Avowed they had with Unknown 9 and Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League, I seriously doubt it could be that bad.

The astroturfer doth protest too much, methinks.

Good. The Western AAA industry can burn to the ground for all I care. They want to die in a ditch over something people clearly don't want in their entertainment then that is their choice.

Just because he looks like a dirty hippy doesn't make his takes any less poignant or correct, but you getting so triggered makes it infinitely more lol-worthy. On that note.....

I am officially identifying as non-buynary, and my pronouns are go/pound/sand. I am waiting for them to change the title of this game to Disavowed.

Matt Hansen is a liability to that company from a PR perspective. Surely they can replace him with someone equally skilled who won't alienate/piss off their potential customers with his dipshit virtue signaling on social media. It's like he wants to get the game blacklisted by all gamers who don't live in say Seattle or in the SJW echo chamber.

LOL he looks like a character in an episode of Portlandia or a Wes Anderson movie. Tobias Funke vibe here.

Nope. Just having some fun with certain people here who think that theirs is the only opinion that matters.

I’m… speechless.
Why are you speechless? If you are not a tourist you should be able to describe what's wrong with ME Andromeda's combat.

Just… so predictable.
Are you perhaps polonyc2's alt? Unable to tell the difference between people predicting something will be bad, and saying something is bad?

Bethesda is under the Microsoft hat, and M$ said a few months ago:

Microsoft Doesn’t Want Curvy Women In Video Games, Warns Developers Against Certain Body Proportions

So anyone expecting beautiful characters in an M$ game needs to understand that this is not going to happen, so if even at any time.
Is this DEI = 100%. Should we ignore/block DEI - it depends on our understanding, I think yes, if someone thinks the opposite direction - fine.
Is there a way for the gameplay to be good - I'm not gambling on that.

My main problem with this is the fact that they left the third person view of the other games and went for the action RPG style.
PoE 2 was one of the best RPG's I've played, and I've played a lot, but the first person view just doesn't give you the overall feeling of neither the surroundings or tactical combat in the same way an isometric RPG does.

Other than that I thought a comment in the YouTube video some posts back summed it up nicely, saying that people have no goodwill left for having clumsy modern day politics and DEI included in everything these days since they have been doing it for years, and it kind of wears people down until you reach a level where you get much more annoyed by it than you probably should.

It's like some people that get on your nerves with their incessant babbling, you can tolerate it for a long time until you just snap and yell "CAN YOU SHUT THE FUCK UP FOR JUST A MOMENT??!"

Looked at a few previews, and a couple of things stand out to me. Beside the console targeted "pew-pew-pew" gameplay, the maps look like a Super Nintendo platform game.

No places where you can actually see much of the map, only narrow spaces and lots of conviniently placed ledges you can climb to jump over to another conviniently placed ledge, where you can smash through some arbitrarily placed planks to get to a chest.

If this is supposed to be the new Skyrim, they totally forgot that one of the best things in Skyrim was to get up high just to admire the landscape and see where you wanted to explore next.
The only thing that reminded me of Skyrim and Bethesda was the faces of the NPC's, which all had that plastic surgery disasters (yes, a Dead Kennedy's reference) look. And these things start to matter when you go from 2D avatars in an isometric game to a first or third person view.

Looks like a game from 2016, as someone else noted.

That is a good observation, I hadn't thought of that re the levels. I didnt like Outer Worlds in part because of how small the maps felt. Would be a bummer if there aren't any open vistas to explore in Avowed.

Outer Worlds...that was this Avowed reminded me of. Same devs, so makes sense they look similar. One of these days I'll actually try Outer Worlds. I think that was a humble bundle monthly at one point.

It was also free on epic or Amazon I think. I have a copy I bought and haven't played yet. I remember face-palming when I saw it had gone free already at the time.

Honestly that's about the right price for it. It's extremely mid in all respects.

It struck a good balance between Fallout and Mass Effect. I quite enjoyed it. What I didn't like was the mediocre production values, and some parts had odd balancing. Fallout like guns and other combat wasn't great either. Though I found the story and whatnot to be nice.

That's fair, I slgged through about 15 hrs and couldn't be bothered to finish it, it got very stale for me and I never found the story, combat, maps, or characters to be interesting.

Makes sense. So many games end up in freebies or cheap deals within 1-2 years. I've gotten burned several times in the past 2-3 years, especially on the AA games that end up on sale at $15-20.

QFT! I will not pay 60$ or even close for games anymore. so many options that are much cheaper that I still need to play+ indie games that play well on deck

Yeah and they want $70 for this, no effing way. Even if I want to play it wouldn't pay that much. Looks like a $30-40 game.

While I'm as critical as anyone else that hanson guy some of those videos are just cringe for lack of a better word
That smash guy is hard to take seriously. He might as well be foaming at the mouth
