God of War (Confirmed) - Official Thread

I can't remember the last time I ever re-played a single player game, but I'm excited to do it with this one. The game was absolutely phenomenal, despite having to suffer through it at a checkerboarded 30 fps using the crappy PS4 controller. With higher frame rates, better graphics, and a proper controller, it will be an absolute joy. I just hope the HDR implementation on PC doesn't suck...

Seems kind of funny when one of the best looking pc games out there is a DX11 PS4 port...

I picked it up so did the Same Voice Actor for the God of War series do this one?
I forget his name.

Almost have it downloaded but won't be able to play it untill next week. Took another vacation should of took 2 weeks. My reg. Boss rejected it but I got a cooler Mgr. to approve it. I get about 5 weeks of vacation every year from Walmart.

The reports that this game seems to be running really well are a great sign. Horizon took a little time to get perfect (and it's still a great system stability test), but Sony's PC ports have been really strong so far. The fact that we can play Gears, Halo, Forza, God of War, Uncharted 4/LL, Horizon Zero Dawn, Death Stranding, and Days Gone on one platform is just plain awesome. Now we just need that elusive Bloodborne port...

Looks like proper Hor+ behavior, though the trailer is only 21:9. I wonder if wider ratios like 32:9 are supported.

That'd be good - the FOV is so damn narrow (understandable for console, not for PC) with no options to change it (yet???). I recall I played The Division in a faked ultrawide resolution for a bit.

I'm replaying the console version right now and the FOV is definitely on the narrow side, even for a 16x9 console game. While the graphics for Kratos are fantastic, he takes up quite a bit of real estate and enemies can get lost in you peripheral pretty easily.

I was up at Midnight last night to start the download but apparently it doesn't release until Noon EST.

Interesting interview with Cory Balrog and Matt DeWald. Balrog says that Sony was convinced to do a PC port by the collective studios pushing for it. Balrog also says that they spent a lot of time tweaking and testing the game for keyboard and mouse, suggesting that this version of the game has been in development for at least two years. Both Xbox and Switch controllers are supported out of the box with on-screen button prompts to match. They go on to say they are supportive of the modding community and believe it is an important part to having a PC game.

I was never particularly great with the axe, at least outside of very specific circumstances. I got to be quite good with the chains, though. In my current NG+ I'm doing my damnedest to try and get better with the axe, though. Even though you can use the chains immediately, I haven't touched 'em and want to hold out as long as I can.

I was the opposite, I hated the chains and outside of very specific scenarios found the Axe to be far superior in both raw performance and combos.

I like them both. Chains were more fun too use but the axe was very satisfying.

I alternated back and forth between ax and chains depending on enemies and scenario. I think everyone finds they have to do a bit of that.

Little disappointed by AMD's showing (GPUs are about 10% below the equivalent Nvidia GPUs and the 3600x is quite far below the 10900k) but the port seems great regardless.

Nothing I suspect newer drivers won't resolve. Shame he didn't really take a closer look at the scaling options. He only really looked at DLSS and pretty much ignored both FSR and the built in scaler.

This video does a decent job looking at DLSS and FSR. But doesn't check out the built in scaler.

So far runs smoothly on my aging build with max settings at 3440x1440. Graphics are stellar and the PC specific options put the FF7 Remaster to shame.

Never played any version of this but something with such universally glowing reviews warrants a buy. I only had about 30 minutes to put into it tonight though. I'm at 1440p, 3080ti, 10900K. Ultra but turned down motion blur and film grain because I hate them both. Performance was excellent but combat seems off to me for some reason. Is there some sort of sticky targeting thing going on that I'm not noticing? The first giant boss thing wiped the floor with me because I felt like I was tied to him with a rubber band. I've never liked the targeting fighting style in a melee focused game.

The narrative between him and the kid is fantastic. Really getting vibes like my own old man is there.

Damn no fullscreen option is a bit crazy as that means no DSR/DLDSR so I am stuck at 1440p. And unless I am crazy most games I play on the controller use A or X for most interactions not B and the option to change that is greyed out. Performance wise it runs fine and the only stutter I have seen so far is an occasional slight camera stutter which I believe they are already aware of.

DSR your desktop res and then you should be able to do it.

Yeah I know I can do that but I would like to have the option in game and set it one time and be done with it instead of having to change my desktop res back and forth every time.

Ive been playing the last 4hrs, setup is 6900xt,5600x,1440. It runs at a locked 75FPS some stutters when it goes to the movie/cut scenes.

I'm noticing the same thing, you can lock on to enemies with the R3. but even if you dont do that the camera still does weird auto follow, i remember reading something in the camera options about how the camera reacts but i just wanted to get some play time in so i didnt really look or mess with it. Otherwise ive been enjoying the game overall i had got day1 on PS4 but i had just the OG PS4 an i felt this was one game that i needed to experience at the best quality. I mever got a PSpro or PS5 so i waited for PC its been worth it i just wish i had a better sound setup.

Was spiderman any good? or even the new ps5 spiderman have you tried that an was it any good?

A case can be made that it’s better than the Arkham games. Personally, I think both it and Arkham City are roughly on par in terms of superhero games. I think AC does it’s gameplay elements a little better and there’s less annoying side-quests and forced wait times between some missions, but Spidy’s storytelling is absolutely phenomenal. Insomniac perfectly nailed every single character and the writing was so damn good. Miles was great as well, though I don’t think it’s quite as good in the writing department (still pretty solid, but a lot more predictable and relies a bit too much on some tropes that I hate) but I like the side-missions better and it has a bit of a better handle on how it paces out missions.
