I can verify that the Valkyries in NG+ are still extremely difficult even with additional upgrades/equipment. Maybe even more so as it seems like the damage you take = increased quite a bit.

I do wish I would have started the game on god of war difficulty. I started on challenge me, but once you load up with some decent gear & do all the optional stuff only around 1/3 of the way through the game is a breeze. However, they don't let you switch to god of war.. Kind of lame IMO. I'm not going to dump a 20 hour save game at this point, but i've got at least another 20 hours of gameplay from what I can see. Kind of wish they would have put in a level scaling option for those that wanted it so the mainline quest enemies weren't trash mobs by the time you get to them.
Its just the learning curve. Once you really settle in with how Kratos moves you can pretty easily dominate while knowing little about the combo system. Once you master the combo system the game becomes pretty darn easy.

I'm almost to the end playing on normal, keeping all of my stuff upgraded, and stacking damage and defense (and vitality) and while most of it isn't difficult there are still enemies that can stun lock me if I don't get the first block and/or 2-3 shot me. I've beat every boss first try but there have been so many "normal" enemies that I've pulled out of a tear only to be instantly 1 shot before I even see what they are. Recently I went back to explore around Kratos' house and the enemies off of a path were 2 levels above me; it would take 5 or 6 full attack rotations to kill each one but I'd die within a few attacks. The difficulty just comes from enemies being higher level than you; they do massive damage that building survivability doesn't help against while also having a huge amount of hitpoints/defense that you can't also can't really outbuild. I don't even notice a difference with the stats; it's all in just what level the enemies are in relation to you. The best strategy is to fight near a ledge and knock them off with a Spartan kick or juggle.

One thing that took me a while to get used to is that blocking is actually good in God of War. I find myself forgetting about it and most other games penalize you for for using your shield too often. Unless you're getting hit from behind, you can block almost anything. Beyond that, don't forget about your special attacks, Atreus' bow, summons, spartan rage, and (later in the game) switching weapons to get additional special attacks. It's easy to get preoccupied with the basics, but you can keep the offense flowing by alternating everything at your disposal.
There are definitely things the game intends for you to after you first encounter them, though. The tears are one of 'em. You'll find several of them as soon as you get the boat that will kill you in 1-2 hits. You're also forced to kill them within a time limit that is only barely possible initially. If it seems like the enemies are way too strong for you, they probably are. If you just keep moving forward with the main story, you can go back and shred anything short of a Valkyrie a little after the halfway point.

Did not play since PS3 (maybe it was GoD 3 ?).
I think the port is excellent and the game itself is really well crafted all around, a bit like for Tomb Raider the "rpg" mechanics of leveling and so on seem a bit unnecessary, I get a bit in a mode I want to explore, fight, not take decisions/accounting stuff for that type of stuff, it remove from the immersion, break the pace, etc....
One major basis game mechanic that I find strange, is the kid being seemingly invincible to enemy hits, which create a strange situation while playing it's father that seemingly care while it seem just obvious strategy and hard to resist to use him has a punching bad and diversion for the enemy, which goes in a complete 180 with the said rpg part of above and the cinematic.

Yeah, and the amount of time they give you to block attacks or dodge is pretty ample. Once you get the deer AOE thing that the kid can use, and the axe frost AOE thing as well, it's pretty easy taking down mobs of enemies.

New Voice Actor not sure what happened to the other guy who had more passion.
I suppose Kratos is a dad so they had to find a different voice for him.
Eh. I personally like Christopher Judge better then the old VA.

The chains return, but I really grew to love the axe. I cannot hear Christopher Judge signing lets get it on, but then again I was an avid SG1 fan. I kept waiting for him to say Indeed.

Just got done with the Stranger fight that was pretty fun =) I suppose it's the best battle in the game guy was just a Hippy.

Wait... Kratos doesn't have those badass chains to swing around? I haven't played a GOW game since the PS2 original, but this was the best part.
He gets them around mid point in the game.

The chains feel very satisfying in this one...plus their special attacks do insane damage. I was a little indifferent about the game until I got 'em. Once I did I ended up doing a lot of the side stuff I normally would have skipped. I originally thought I got them earlier than I actually did. I think that's mainly because I wasn't doing much of the side stuff beforehand. You actually get them pretty late in the main storyline, but that's also when a shitload of side stuff opens up, too.

I like games like this where there is actually quite a bit in the game world that is 100% optional, and a lot of those areas are pretty big.
Overall, this is a brilliant game. The only thing that is going to suck is when I finish it, and have to go back to AC Valhalla which really just isn't as good even though it's a massive game.
Also it's sad knowing we're going to have to wait at least like 1-2 maybe more years to get Ragnarök after the playstation release this year.

I have mixed feelings about optional content. I don't want to force people to go through a monster of a game just to experience a storyline. Not everyone wants to spend 40 hours with a game. At the same time, it can be annoying when the best parts of a game are hidden away in optional sections or areas you have to be a hawkeye to even notice. Or worse, games that force you to backtrack over and over once you find a new item or two. There's a fine line to doing things well and making a tedious game. God of War walks the line for me. I know I'm not the only person who eyerolls the dozens of locked doors and contraptions you're supposed to revisit repeatedly once you find specific items. It gets old backtracking over and over, especially without a robust quick travel system for much of the game. I still think it's a really good game, but I don't care for mini-MetroidVania backtracking items/areas at the level it has 'em. Most things aren't necessary (which I appreciate), but I kinda wish they didn't even exist.

Well, God of War does it better than most. You've got a fast travel to every place by the end of the game. This is different from Darksiders 2 or even the new Tomb Raiders, which I both love, but backtracking in them is way more annoying. Part of the reason I love this game so much is that I was surprised about how open it is. I thought it was more of an on-rails action type of game, and it's not at all.

In an age of rinse and repeat open world games it’s refreshing to play something more linear. Stories are more engaging and play out better that way. Linear doesn’t mean bad and open world definitely doesn’t always mean good.
One thing I was worried about early on was the whole son mechanic but it’s turned into about my favorite part. I enjoy the dialogue, his interactions with npc’s, how he helps Kratos with puzzles and gives helpful tips.

I still think the Last of Us 2 is the best game from the last decade and it's 90% linear. There's a relatively small open area near the beginning, but it's otherwise point A to point B. IMO, games like that allow for some level of urgency and purpose. It's tough to do that in an open game where you're better off picking berries or rounding up ore than doing anything of consequence. God of War does a decent job of keeping some open world stuck locked down when the plot calls for it, which is rare and appreciated.

One area I'm noticing a major difference between your first pass and NG+ is damage on the Valkyries. You take about 30% more and dish out about 30% less. Maybe even more than that in come cases. That's even with a full suite of maxed out red gear and red/gold gems. The same strategies work, but those fights are even more unforgiving than before. Things aren't quite Dark Souls DLC difficulty, but they're as tough as anything in the vanilla Souls games.

Finished the story tonight. I enjoyed the story a lot. I've completed almost all of the extras but have the stuff that relies on Niflheim left. I'm going to complete it all but Niflheim sucks; it's the worst part of the game by far.
