Doom Eternal

I've struggled to even play this game. I bought it at launch, but every time I start to play it I bail almost immediately. It just doesn't look or feel right to me. I'm also not the twitchy shooter player I was 15-20 years ago either. I got mauled pretty badly on hard, which didn't help.
Honestly, learn to chainsaw regularly. Move constantly. If you're standing still...you're playing wrong. Once you get the Super Shotgun, upgrade that immediately to max.

The official DOOM Twitter has teased us with some shots of the upcoming campaign DLC.

Hopefully that can be disabled. I am waiting for the new RTX cards before buying and playing this, but invasions and random uberspawns would not be my cup of tea.

There is actually a loading card for the empowered demons in the game already. Been there since release. I hope they didn't abandon the player invasion idea for this. If they couldn't get invasions working, work harder!

Doom Eternal's first update includes Denuvo Anti-Cheat

Not to be confused with Denuvo Anti-Tamper, which is what we're usually referring to when we mention Denuvo, this is a new "anti-cheat solution" that Irdeto has been developing over the last three years, specifically to tackle cheating in multiplayer modes...when you start Doom Eternal for the first time, Denuvo Anti-Cheat will install a kernel-mode driver that starts when the game launches and stops whenever the game does

Apparently it avoids collecting "any personally identifiable information", and doesn't scan your files, take screenshots or stream shellcode...it does collect information on how your OS interacts with Doom, however, which it sends to Amazon servers...the anti-cheat can be removed directly from your ‘add or remove programs’ box in Windows, but that’ll prevent you from playing the newly-introduced Battlemode multiplayer

Publisher Bethesda says that you should be able to continue playing single-player without the anti-cheat software installed, though players have found that’s not the case...players on Linux have also reported that the anti-cheat driver has broken compatibility through Steam's Proton layer...

that's not how capitalism works. if anything charge more because of stay at home orders. that's how markets and capitalism actually work.

Gestures of good will are not how capitalism works period. :D Even the gestures that LOOK like them, are only a way to get more from the consumer at a later date.

Ok, I have seen some good will from the industry in the past, but it's not likely to come from anyone under the Zenimax corporation. ;)

In fact, id Software were some of the good guys before they went to Zenimax. (and still are as far as they're allowed) They'd release the source code to their previous engines, have lots of chats with the community, post their plan files, etc. They always pushed open standards (and still do actually to a degree). They never really gave away free content though with the exception of shareware levels.

so this big Update 1 got overshadowed by the Denuvo controversy...anyone actually play after the update?...how are the new Empowered Demons?...how do you know when it's an empowered demon, does it look different?

I haven't had a chance to try it yet. I've been planning to though. That is a very healthy update.

I wonder if the controversy will get id to remove Denuvo and find some less invasive anti-cheating tool

Doom Eternal removing Denuvo anti-cheat in next patch, reevaluating it's options with anti-cheat

Marty Stratton, Executive Producer of Doom Eternal:

Despite our best intentions, feedback from players has made it clear that we must re-evaluate our approach to anti-cheat integration. With that, we will be removing the anti-cheat technology from the game in our next PC update. As we examine any future of anti-cheat in DOOM Eternal, at a minimum we must consider giving campaign-only players the ability to play without anti-cheat software installed, as well as ensure the overall timing of any anti-cheat integration better aligns with player expectations around clear initiatives – like ranked or competitive play – where demand for anti-cheat is far greater

Bitching, moaning, reviewing bombing and boycotting FTW!

Cool! Was playing through it for the second time and got bored with it and moved to Control, now Control is on hold while playing Mafia II :D.

Update 1.1 is now live. This patch removes Denuvo Anti-Cheat. If you already played with Update 1 and have DAC installed you can remove it through Apps & Features (Windows 10) or Add/Remove Programs (Windows 8.1 and earlier). The patch also addresses some performance degradation introduced with the original update.

https://slayersclub.bethesda.net/en...B/doom-eternal-update-1-1-pc-only-patch-notes

Steam auto-updated the previous patch with DAC but I never launched the game with it installed...I also don't see it in my Programs and Features list...so it only installs after you launch the game?

Yes, it will only install if you launched it after Update 1. If you did not launch the game then it should not be installed.

The 12 people who play Battlemode are saying that it now crashes when entering the multiplayer. Anyone of you here among the 12 people playing Battlemode and can confirm?

I’ll check this evening albeit I’m on Linux so this will be with proton.

Well crap, count me in the camp for Doom 2016. Eternal started off ok, but a few hours, the increasing of jumping, double jumping, dash jump, just had to throw in the towel. Pretty bummed too because the visuals and performance of this game are stellar. I'm all for changing the game, but in my opinion this took it the wrong direction. Maybe next one.

Something about this game just doesn't work for me. I've started playing it on 3 different occasions and it just can't hold my attention. I just don't think it's fun. I can't pinpoint why, but I think I'm finally just going to uninstall it and leave it behind.

Just bought this game on Steam during the sales, not too impressed by it. It's a shame because I enjoyed Doom 3 and Doom 2016 but there is something with the gameplay that doesn't seem to stick my interest.

I started playing the second time knowing the mechanics better and just eventually got utterly bored. Very hard initially and then it becomes repetitively easy, mindless platforming which on first go around was extremely difficult for me which made no sense why for the first 1/2 and on the 2nd time around stupidly easy with zero sense of accomplishment when traversing. Things throughout the game has that does not fit, make sense or more exact who the hell would do that stupid crap that way. Out of place, add on, stuck together levels. Well anyways it got better, once I got some experience but then it fell apart. I played Doom 2016 like 5 times, Doom 3 about 4 times. Doom Eternal? meh
