Final Fantasy XIV Official Release Thread

I picked it up again and seems to be a good game. Familiar playstyle (WoW) but also different.
The thread is dead though, anyone still playing?

I come back every now and then. I still absolutely love the game though. One of the best MMO's by far. I like it more then wow at this point

Same here. I absolutely love the game. In my opinion, it's the best MMO by far. But between family, work, and going back to college, I just don't have the time for an MMO. I'm lucky if I get a round or two of BF1 in weekly.

I dinged 25 and I still can't use mounts. What do I need to do?
I googled and people say that I get to use the mount after I complete the quest where I get to choose 3 factions (storm, flame and something else). Well I did complete that quest and the quest after (For the Coin and Country I think), but I still can't use the mounts I got in collector's edition. It says I'm restricted or something.
Sooo... what am I missing?

If you've picked a GC then you need to do the quest "My Little Chocobo" to unlock the ability to use mounts.

You'll need 2000 GC Seals to purchase the quest item from the Quartermaster.

Where can I find that quest? EDIT: Found the quest, it was right there, how could I have missed it XD
Also, do I need those GC Seals if I already have mounts?

Aye you need to complete that quest to be able to ride any mount, and its 2000 seals to buy the quest turn in item.

Anyone who plays consistently - One thing I liked about FFXIV in the past is that even late-comers could still come in, level up, and get to see most of the game content (ie bosses, raids, etc); in fact, in some cases it is required. I remember that the Main Quest is a requirement to proceed into Heavensward proper etc. Is this still the case so far? If someone hasn't played for quite a long time, is it still possible to come in and find groups to undertake all of the various dungeons and raids (at least once for the experience, to unlock achievements etc...)? The Class/Job system ensures people will always be leveling up, but I want to make sure that missing out on Primals/raids/multiplayer systems and whatnot will not be the case.

Oh and one more thing - is it just me or does it seem that FFXIV is starting to sell more "cash shop" items? I really don't wanmt to see them tempted down that road. I'm actually okay with their ingenious plan to charge a very low, reasonable amount (ie $2-5 ) for items from past holidays, the sale of Fantasias and Dyes (of tones that can be generally found in game, or very close too it) and I can even stomach stomach an very occasional mount or pet for sale if it is related to charity, but I don't want to see them offering lots of new things to buy frequently, especially with the expanded furniture/housing system on the way. One of the reasons I continually support FFXIV is because they have refused to get into the Item Mall as the only way to acquire certain items, with very few aforementioned exceptions, and I really hope they aren't getting swayed otherwise.

Thanks!

Anyone who plays consistently -

You need to do ALL the story quests to get to HW atm. They have mentioned adding level up pots but not sure how they'll implement that and the cost was mentioned to be pretty high. 1 class to 60 I think they said could be $30+

Some of the queue's can be slow, esp as a DPS, but there are always people doing the older content for other classes and sometimes alts. Hell I don't even have everything at 60 and I've been playing since launch.

The cash shop has been slowly growing over time, and I don't expect it to stop. They are making a fortune on it and people are more than happy to spend the cash. There's nothing that gives a real advantage, its glamour stuff, but it's never going to go away or stop, especially now that they've seen how much money it can make them.

I debated between posting to this old thread, or the newer FFXIV Benchmark thread. The people most recently active here seem to be the same as in the other thread so it doesn't much matter I guess.

So I played FFXIV ARR from the later beta and onward for about a year after release. I was on Leviathon, with other people from here who started out on Leviathon, many eventually went to various FC's, I ended up in Revenant (booted for inactivity long ago). I'm seriously thinking of coming back, resubscribed for a month, but I'm feeling pretty lost since I'm so far behind and have forgotten so much. When I left I was 50 BLM, BRD, SCH and SMN, with zenith weapons for BLM, BRD and SCH. I've got a set of atma in inventory I never used, farming it was a pita back in the day as I recall. I'm 50 for all crafting classes and harvesting, other than fishing. I did all the questlines for those back in the day. My gear level varies between 94 for BLM, down to a low of 70 for SMN, which I know sucks by current standards...

Anyway, any tips for getting back into things? I've been trying to come up to speed through youtube videos and forums, but I suppose I should just spend some time on the striking dummy (or whatever they're called) to get my rotations down again, and jump back into it with the easier instances like Wanderers Palace that I used to do a lot. For farming tomes for gear it would probably be fastest using SCH in the duty finder, but I don't really feel competent to heal at the moment, so probably BLM or BRD.

With the new expansion coming up, I've been debating what to focus on. BLM used to be my main toon with BRD second, but I'm kind of thinking BRD might be good to focus on. My gear on SMN is the worst, but I guess that might not matter too much. Buy some gear from the market board to get my gear level up? I've got about 5-6 million gil left from when I quit like 3 years ago (crafting ftw), and don't know if that's still a reasonable amount, or if inflation has bumped all the prices up a lot?

Any suggestions for making the move back after years away would be appreciated.

If you're coming back for SB, don't work too hard at practicing the rotations and skills since the entire combat skill system is being revamped with SB in 2 weeks.

Everyone is going to be at training dummies working things out that first day and setting their hot bars back up.

I only dabble in the game at this point, so I cant offer much more advice than that. Good luck!!

Palace of the Dead is something that I've seen suggested as a way to re-learn some of the skills because you start at level 1 and build up.

if the combat wasn't so bad, I'd be coming back...

They're redoing combat for the Stormblood release, though that still may not make it something you'd like, but may be worth a look if they do a free weekend again.

PotD is great for leveling alts and such. Most people tend to speed run it nowadays, so if you want to use it to practice skills I'd try to get a preformed group of 4 people that all want to take it a bit slower if possible.

Good suggestion!!

If any of yall are on Hyperion and are going to get into SB, send me a PM. Especially anyone who has been outta the loop and are looking for a bunch to join up with, as we've a very large FC, probably the most active on the server, with players at all levels doing content.

This game has been great, and I'm looking forward for Stormblood.

I'm going to give it another shot - would it benefit to try leveling anything up this week or will I be able to create a Warrior or Paladin or Dark Knight later on this week with the expansion release?

Highest I have currently is a 22 Conjurer. LOL

I recently started playing again on Saturday. I already got a lvl 50, but it wasn't on my friends server.

I have played maybe 4-5 tops since Saturday and I am already lvl 23. Also there is a new quest that gives you a ring that increases your exp by 30% until level 30.

I am interested in the new stormblood changes, but I can tell you now, to even get into the 2nd expansion (heavensword) will take a lot of time.

I do know they are adding in a Pay feature. For $25 you can get an automatic lvl 60 with a job of your choice. And the other pay feature for $25 will let you skip all the quests from 1-60. So you start right at the stormblood expansion.

So to add everything up. If you do not want to spend the time to level from 1-60 and want to start at stormblood, you need to Pony up $15 to resub. $39.99 for Stormblood, and another $50 to start at level 60...So for $105 you can start right at Stormblood! What I deal LAUGH

Damn, well that sucks. I was hoping they would just add this to the new expansion like they do every other MMO.

Definitely won't spend $105 for a month or 2 of gameplay.

The game with both expansions is 60. Skipping the quests is kinda silly since they're such an integral part of the game, but it isnt separate as he claimed to buy the jump potion thingie. The jump pot gives you level 60 with all quests cleared up to 60.

I haven't fired the game up yet, haven't had the time lately. I am still trying to decide between it and ESO for my long term game, having played eso since 2013, skipped a year and a half due to RL.

I never follow the story in any MMO's, lol.

There are separate jump potions. Two for story and one for job level. The story ones will let you skip ARR (2.x) or ARR and Heavensward (3.x) story quests. ARR story skip is $18 alone, ARR + Heavensward story skip is $25. Job level potion is $25 and you can only have 1 per account until further notice.

If you don't want to go through the quests from ARR and Heavensward and skip right to Stormblood (assuming you don't already own the game), you'll need to buy the base ARR game, the stormblood expansion and $50 worth of jump potions. If I were doing it myself at this point I'd buy the $25 job level potion and do the quests myself. They do not give you a jump potion for free, but they'd be happy to sell you one.

This game is broken right now, severely broken....

Hmmm im having a good time. Sure there are some Disconnects and instance issues, but this usually happens when any major MMO releases a new expansion. Every single Wow expansion on the start date was a cluster fuck. Shit I jumped on my lvl 50 mage on Leviathan and I had a 2400+ que, and lag like a mofo.

Give it time.

Give it time.

These people are giving it time... lots of time.. standing in line for hours to get through the main story quest..... :p

This same thing has happened before where SE gated content behind a single player instance and people were forced to wait just like this. Its not like SE couldn't have predicted it would happen again, but they don't care about fixing it, otherwise they wouldn't set it up to happen 3 times now.

Yoshi's "apology" comes across as hollow too. Its like... "We know there's a problem, but the players will have to figure out a solution for the time being while we keep studying the mess". :p The mess he created by not designing around this sort of bottleneck and by telling everyone at the E3 panel to "Do the MSQ first". Well, they would, if they could, but they cant, so....... ;)

SE and Early Access are always a mess. Things will be better by next week most likely.... hopefully.....

That's when I'll try to play. I knew better than to even try to log in this weekend. ARR and HW taught me that.

Anyone who wants to give FFXIV a try and/or had an account active 90 days ago or more (I think...), just let me know! I have referrals that grant in-game goodies to new players and returning ones alike, including special equipment and XP boosting accessories! Here's the thread I created for it in Free Stuff with more info - I'll update it soon with data for the Return invites too!

oh but that MSQ is a bottleneck that is purposly imposed by SE. This was stated in one of the updates from them.

Like they knew, and this is their resolution.

there is some server congestion but when isn't there during a major expansion release. Game is great, I'm enjoying it.

Theres a guy that's waiting for the MSQ right now, well, he was also on early this morning about 3am....and he has stood right in the same spot until right now, still trying to get the MSQ to load, because you need that to advance in the game in general. Can't get to the cool areas until you complete the MSQ.

Resubbed and glad I did. Level 34 right now. Does HS start @ 50?

Only you have completed the main scenerio for ARR. Otherwise no it does not. at Level 50 you are still going to do a SHIT TON of ARR quests before HS quests even start.

And I agree I am glad I resubbed as well!

Honestly, that's what turned me off of coming back to the game when Heavensward launched. I logged back in to discover that even though I was max level in a few classes and finished the original story, I apparently had to do 30+ hrs of additional story quests just to even get to see the new content. I can only assume that would be much worse if I wanted to play the new expansion since I'd have to do all of the Heavensward stuff in addition. They really need some sort of catch-up mechanic, imo. I really don't want to have to play an MMO for 60 hrs by myself doing old content just to see the new stuff.

Exactly. To get going in Stormblood you need to finish all the quests for HS. Now they do sell a potion for $25 that will finish all main quests from 1-60....but fuck that.

Yea it is going to take a LONG TIME to get to Stormblood.

They added potions to skip the main story bits to be able to jump into the new content. Just have to pay up for them.

Log into your account on the Mog Station and take a look. Pricing is like $25 and up.
