Final Fantasy XIV Official Release Thread

Is...this worth going back to, in order to just mess around, and level? Can one level solo? I have a spotty memory of this since I played it for about 2 weeks after launch (and some beta), and don't recall it being bad, but quite fun actually. Any [H] guild or something to that effect?

Pretty easy to level up solo, I've been playing for like 2 weeks and hit level 40 without even trying to level up fast, it's my first mmo as well. Sure you can play solo and play the party stuff via duty finder, but being a DPS can give you painful queue times, you pretty much insta enter dungeons if you're a tank or healer.

Heavensward early access is now open! r Fo any who haven't pre-ordered and wish to save a few bucks, head over to GreenManGaming.com and you can get a copy of the Collector's Edition (for PC) for only $45 compared to the normal $60 price. Look in the "VIP" section once you're logged in. You can still get the pre-order items and Early Access so long as you pre-order before the official June 23rd release date.

For those who have yet to buy FFXIV at all, there is a bundled edition that contains both the base FFXIV: A Realm Reborn and the Heavensward expansion which supposedly retails for $60 (standard editions of both). However, you may be able to find cheap ARR keys and then just buy the expansion, if you wish.

If anyone is interested in trying the game out, there are some significant recruit-a-friend benefits for the recruited player, (including an item that boosts your XP gain by 25% for all classes, under level 25). Send a PM if you're interested, and I'll also be creating a thread on Free Stuff with more details.

I'm just getting back into FFXIV again myself and I've really liked all the improvements since launch; Heavensward looks to be even better!

Edit: I started a Recruit-A-Friend thread in Free Stuff, so anyone wanting to get ahold of some extra goodies as they delve into FFXIV, check it out - http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1866140

So I bit the bullet

I enjoyed ARR for a couple months (but never finished it) and haven't played an mmo since then.

Had an ebay gift card and got the CE for just 15 bucks after that.

I think my main chairacter was around level 35-40'ish, I can't remember but for some reason when I login to the mog station it says "0 characters" but I REALLY hope that's a bug....

Anyone here playing ? I know we had an [H] guild back in the day but think it was closed before I quit playing even.

Also about Veteran rewards.

Do this not count for older accounts? I know I was subbed for 3 months and I only got 30days when I just resubbed now.

Its a bug. Just log in to the game with a character and it will then appear on the MogStation screen as before. They know about it but it doesn't seem to be fixed just yet.

I've mostly given up on the game at this point just because of time constraints and being sick of how SE is doing some things. I think I'm also getting sick of any sort of grind in any game really, and since MMO's are pure grind... thinking I'm just done with them in general unfortunately.

On the character select screen in the bottom right it should say how many paid days have accumulated on the account. Not sure what to do other than contact support if its wrong (And I wish you luck if you do, SE support from my personal experience sucks).

Best of luck and enjoy the new content once you get that far!

I resubbed, but for some reason I have the hardest time logging in and playing. I think it's the fact I have to do all the story mode as I'm only level 25. I've heard it's good, but the filler inbetween the main stuff is tedious and mind numbingly boring.

I've tried playing 2.0 like 5 times and every time I just can progress and I don't know why. It might be it's slow pace and the homoginization of jobs and the slow combat.

Its one hell of a nonsense grind and so much artificial content stretching. Unlocking flying in each area alone is very annoying leave alone leveling to 60. I played this game a lot, pretty much every day up until 2 months ago when I got really bored of it after farming final coil non stop. The Heavensward expansion is dissapointing at best, I find the new areas very dull and boring. The new skills and job changes are great though, they did a good job there.

Oh and DX11 with Tessellation enabled really enhances the high quality textures this game does (not) have:

Besides that the new DX11 client is well optimized, i'm getting much better performance in crowded areas.

I've been playing since some of my friends do.

Leveling in the new expac was great up until The Churning Mists. The Dravanian Hinterlands after it was great, but it feels like they just drug on The Churning Mists meaninglessly. They could have put way more side quests in Azys Lla and made both it and the Hinterlands sooner while making The Churning Mists shorter. It's bad enough that I questioned making it to 60. I just spammed dungeons as Scholar for exp until I could get out of there. Azys Lla is a really cool zone and it feels like they wasted it by making people spend all their time in Moogle Hell.

If you're new or lower than 50, many of the quests in the middle percent exp range to 50 (30-40) are really bad as well, and the lv35-37 dungeon is just terrible.

The new dungeons are all pretty great, although the last boss in Neverreap is going to be miserable to impossible as BLM. I'm happy the final dungeon is 59 and doesn't cap you at 49 like 2.0's Aurum Vale. It makes me more likely to help people get that final level.

That's not tesselation, that's layering 10 sprites to give a false sense of bumpmapping.. and it's terrible.

Just started back up again last night. I started a pug and I need to go to rouge then I can be a ninja, right?

Yup, 30 Rogue and 15 Pugilist to be a Ninja.

Also need to have completed the quest Sylph-management I believe, which is a level 20 story mission.

So this worth getting back into? Did they reduce the grind and make it better with more enemies and quests? I remember this being really bad on release so my friends and I promptly quit. Really enjoyed FF11 though.

I'm enjoying it more this time around.

The fat chocobo is cracking me the hell up, lol

It's the same as 2.0 was, so if you liked 2.0 you'll enjoy 3.0. It's still grindy as hell. It's nothing like FFXI, so I wouldn't keep my hopes up if you're hoping it's like FFXI.

Did you play when it released 5 years ago? Becuase if you did it'snothing like that, it's now a WoW style clone. So if you like instanced dungeons and stuff like that you'll enjoy FFXIV.

I wouldn't necessarily call it a WOW clone.

It certainly shares the same playstyle, but is more heavily based around a central story than wow was. The main story is usually really good.

Ok, but after you finish the story what are you doing most of the time? Instanced dungeons and raids, it's a theme park clone with a story thrown in. The story is like a quarter of the game, it's still an MMO at heart.

Honestly, I mostly play it for the story.

I know I am in the minority, but its what I really like in FFXIV and loved in FFXI.

The story in FFXIV is quite a bit more than a quarter of the game.

I played FF14 when it was first released and promptly quit not even giving it the full 30 days it was that bad. Easily the worst MMO I played. Second chances not easily given but was thinking they might have gotten their act together if they released an expansion. I had high hopes enjoying FF11 a lot and FF14 was very disappointing.

I liked WoW well enough to play from release up to Cataclysm when I quit. Raiding with friends was pretty fun and the story was good enough. PVP was just meh. Story really jumped the shark after Cataclysm and the raids stopped being fun so we all quit.

FF11 had an awesome story and was a great team based game.

I gotta say that I'm loving this game. I purchased about 3 weeks ago and my "free" 30 days is about up. I feel the game has passed its probation period and I will be subscribing.

My god, the crafting! I'm in heaven.

The only downside being that pretty much all crafted gear is worse than drops in dungeons (so rarely used) and you'll rarely recoup the money you spend to level it by selling anything you make. A few things sell ok, but anything rare and pricey most people just get through someone in their FC so they never shop the market board.

Gathering classes on the other hand can make millions in no time. Was in awe how fast I could pull in 5 million Gil on my miner at 50 without grinding my ass off for it.

There's a lot to enjoy about the game, but I found things seriously lacking at endgame.

So I shouldn't even bother with crafting gear but instead do 2 gathering professions?

I haven't played since HW went live, so things may not be quite as they were when I was raking in the Gil.

Botany and Mining could make a ton and I saved up over 50 million Gil pretty easily.

About the only crafted gear that can sell ok is stuff made for the gathering/crafting classes. Most battle gear people go for the dungeon gear because its always been better.

It can also vary based on the server you're on as to what the market is like.

If you want to craft, I'd level a gathering class and make some money up front to finance the crafting, because it can add up pretty quick, plus you'll be able to gather some of your own mats besides. I always had good luck doing clusters at 50. Think they did add some stuff for crafters to do when it comes to the flying ships but not sure exactly what.

Good luck with it in any case. Hopefully you can find a niche like I did before to make some steady Gil without grinding for endless months.

If crafting isn't really that good endgame, then people must not really be doing it? So if no one is really crafting that much, then how is the market doing well selling the mats? Surely it must be going towards something?

I'm not trying to argue, just trying to understand as I'm still extremely new to the game.

Most people are crafting for themselves or their FC. Some players might splurge on a set of gear for an alt class but for the most part, dungeon drops are superior in every way at all levels.

Certain key things might sell ok, like items used for a quest.

Raw materials sell good, and since rich endgame people dont want to farm those they'll happily shell out the Gil just to save time, and thats how I made a fortune.

When they added the new airships I think they made it so that 4 people in a crafting class had to be together to do certain parts of the assembly or something. I havent read the details on it since I havent played HW yet.

Anyone using 5.1 speakers with this game? Am I crazy, or is there only a 4 speaker mix while playing? My center channel only wakes up for the cinematics.

I'm playing a little here and there. I stopped a while back shortly after getting 2 classes to 50 but had not really scratched the surface of the end game content. I started up again a little while ago and I think I'm finally getting close to the expansion content. While this it's time consuming to be forced to go through the storyline, I am enjoying the story. If anyone is playing on Adamantoise, I'm Majin Hoju on the server.

This is one of the few MMOs I keep coming back to. Its like the developers actually want to improve the title and bring it forth on the "long haul". I tried both during original launch, a Realm Reborn, and Heavensward and I've liked what they've added (at least for new, relatively low level characters. Iv'e not maxed out a job yet). They also do monetization right being subscription based and that getting you everything in game! There are only a few things to buy that are more of account services (ie Rename and complete appearance change race/gender tokens, 2 enhanced in-game marriage ceremonies for roleplayers; the basic one is free!), and they sell "out of print" seasonal items. For instance, if you wanted a hat from last year's lunar new year celebration and were there at the time, you could have gotten it in game for free. However, if you weren't playing/didn't get it at the time, you can pay $3 or whatnot and get an "out of print" seasonal item for a low price. They have also been adding roleplaying and quality of life elements without making you pay extra for them which is nice (ie real housing districts have arrived, the Gold Saucer casino came with Heavensward and along with it the FFVIII favorite card game Triple Triad!) There are a few elements of the game I could do without (ie it would be nice to allow story-mode missions to be completed in a group, rather than thaving to drop group for them. I often duo with my girlfriend and its a bit annoying to have to drop group and both do the quest solo etc) but overall the mechanics work well.

Besides World of Warcraft (and perhaps Guild Wars 2, which is a little different being buy to play) , I can think of few other titles that have the polish, value, and generally devs who seem to respect the player base instead of being treated like a money-laden washrag to be wrung as tightly and fast as possible. If anyone would like a refer-a-friend, feel free to let me know and we can both get some nice little in-game rewards and trinkets.

Oh, for those interested - Patch 3.2 (major content patch) has just released! An overview of it can be found here - FINAL FANTASY XIV: Heavensward | The Gears of Change . Besides lots for veterans, it adds some notable benefits for newer players like the Hall of the Novice (training for group/raid combat dynamics) and the new Mentor system and chat channel! Anyone interested in trying the game out, I am happy to provide Recruit-A-Friend invites which grant some pretty neat little in-game benefits to recruits and recruiters alike. I have a thread about it in Free Stuff - Final Fantasy XIV - Recruit-A-Friend - Benefits for Recruits, +20% XP < Lv 25, more! - so check it out there or just PM me for more info.
