Deus Ex : Mankind Divided

I'm only about an hour in but I'm loving the game so far. As I am not offended by everything, I really enjoy the heavy themes and commentary, on current events, MD evokes. I'm playing at 5760x1080 on High settings, as pushing the graphic settings any further just wasn't smooth enough. Game looks great to me though.

I'll likely be home in a couple hours.
I plan on cranking 4k ultra no AA and see how that pans out.

I didn't spend $1650 on graphics cards to play low res or low quality.

Not home yet but I remoted into my computer. This is what nvidia is recommending I run the game at:

Is anyone else disappointed how wooden or clunky things feel? Jensen seems to move like a static stick...

I haven't played much yet but this game definitely looks gorgeous. Not sure it justifies sub-40 FPS frame rates, though.

It doesn't... I think it looks great, but nothing justifies sub 40.

There are graphically glitches too. There are lighting problems, at times looking at a wall that's illuminated, it flashes on and off rapidly. At others, the ground gets completely lit up because of a clear baked lighting being displaced or something.

I'm on an r9 280, so I don't expect the greatest but the game would be fine then hit extremely low fps then back again. It's pretty annoying.

That said, gameplay wise, I'm hating on the climb mechanic, I wish they didn't have it and just worked like how it did before, or didn't make jensen look down like a fag every time, gives me a headache.

Soooo....yeah, this game has microtransactions. In single player.

You can buy Praxis kits and in-game credits.

Performance-wise, it's playable at 1440 with Ultra (no MSAA) but barely...quite a bit of slowdown. Also, the graphics seem fairly inconsistent, like in one scene I will get awesome dynamic shadows and in the next, the same object has no shadows. Might be some bugs with this one, hopefully they can get them ironed out and improve performance.

The game itself so far is awesome - very much Deus Ex.

There is something weird going on with mouse movement...I don't know if it's acceleration or what, but I had to turn down the sensitivity to 25% to make it feel halfway decent, and even then it's not great.

That's exactly what I had to turn mine to to get it to feel ok. The steam forums has a sticky with known issues and they say they are looking into mouse sensitivity.

Ok, installed latest nvidia driver and ran 1080GTX SLI benchmarks. The results are surprising.
4k resolution, Preset ULTRA, MSAA off.
36 avg, 27 min, 43 max

Changed Shadow Quality to HIGH
Contact hard shadows OFF
Temporal AA OFF
35 avg, 29 min, 41 max

WTH??? Worse if anything by lowering the quality.

Going to play around a bit.

how do people play games with no AA and call it beautiful?...unless you're gaming at 4k or using DSR you need good AA (and this game has good MSAA)...I always go for image quality over 60fps every time

Running with the NVIDIA recommended setting at 4k (listed in an above post) I got 52,46,62
Put textures back to ultra and cloth physics on. Numbers stayed the same.
Turned on Ambient occlusion: 51,43,61
Turned on Volumetric lighting: 49,43,59
LOD to very high: 49,41,59

enough benchmarking for now. Time to play the game with these settings.

No way, unless the image quality goes to absolute shit, there's no way I'd pick it over good framerate. And I'm not even one of the frame rate people.

TBH, I think the game is built towards these micro transactions, which saddens me greatly. A shotgun is 3k, praxis is 10k. In the first game, a shotgun is 750, and praxis is 5k, and weapons sold for like 2 to 3 times the amount it does in this game. Balance seems really out of whack. However, I am still only in the start of the game so maybe it balances out better later on.

With the gameplay being good, this game still has so many that annoy me. Sigh..... but I did get it for 33 bucks, which is probably the amount it's worth, so I'm not getting screwed like people who paid 60.

I don't mean AA over frame rates in the 20's...I'm talking about AA goes first and I can deal with frame rates in the mid to upper 40's and beyond...I never heard about in-game microtransactions until this thread...did they add it at the last minute?...can the game be played just as easily without them?...is it just to give people higher powered gear earlier in the game?

60fps smooth non-stuttering frame rate>some jaggies.

Maybe it's cause I grew up playing games that didn't even use AA.

As I've said, I am only a mission or so into the first hub area, so I'm not at all far into the game. So I can't say with certainty...

I'm personally not using any of the microtransaction in this run ( I got some since I pre ordered or bought day one or something but not using those either.) It seems like you don't get as much exp for things, but I think that's for spreading the game's exp so that you can play one way or another without being too impacted.

That said, I think you can, but not like you could in the first game. The first game you get a lot of praxis points if you do everything, in this, it seems like you get a fair amount if you do everything. But this is more like a prejudgement as I am still only a little bit in.

Oh, and though I don't look a great deal into most games, this included, I did look around for some info on this, and I never encountered any info about buying praxis with real money either, til I played the game. So I doubt many people knew. Though, if you pre ordered, you would see that you get praxis as a DLC. Ugh.

recommend using a console controller for this makes it smoother to play

It plays fine for me. Though I'm not as sensitive to issues with mouse smoothing as other people. I dropped the sensativity down a bit and everything feels fine. I'll take the worst mouse smoothing in the world over a controller for a first person game though.

I'm sorry, but an RX480 shouldn't be anywhere near a 980 ti. this is ridiculous.

it's an AMD Gaming Evolved title so I'm not surprised...as with previous AMD sponsored titles (Tomb Raider, Bioshock Infinite) an Nvidia patch or 2 should get things back to normal :D

I'll take the controversial stances of not caring about AA vs. needing 60fps AND playing with a gamepad. KB/M is nice and pretty helpful with the twitchy sections, but I'm going slow and lazy with this one.

Game really shines though whatever keyboard mouse controller setup you use not sure if it's really addicting took me a while to figure out how to get the use stealth to get in the library.

Damn these numbers are pretty low. I have a 980 Ti and I think I will struggle to maintain 1440P @ 60FPS. Thankfully I have a G-Sync monitor though. Might wait till the DX12 patch comes out to see if it helps out with performance any.

How the 980 Ti doing in this game? Will try tonight if I have time.

I think I'd be upset if I didn't have a G-sync monitor. I'm definitely sub 60, averaging in the 50's or so. I tried the Nvidia settings then went off the rails of that a bit and turned on a few things to make the image look better. I tried it at 1080p and it was much better but ain't no way I'm playing in that resolution. I tried all AA off, can't do it - went with TAA and will revisit MSAA when I get home tonight.

The issue with mouse acceleration is crap, and a lot of the UI makes no sense with a mouse (radial menus, c'mon) so it's a bit clunky. Definitely feels two steps forward and one step back with this game.

I know it's going to be the end of the world to some people.

It's silly throw away garbage looking to make a cynical cash grab off of people that don't know what a trainer is for. I'm sorry to see the likes of it but thankfully it's something that is a complete non factor ultimately.

Uch....trust Square Enix to fuck up a good thing.

I'm assuming that's their fault. They really have had a fairly nice streak by and large and Nixxess usually does a beautiful job on PC versions of games so I'm fairly optimistic that some of the performance and mouse bugaboos are going to be helped out in the near future.

That, and updated GPU drivers for both brands.

I dunno, for some reason the graphics/animation seem stale/dated to me. Just starting the game, but the gameplay is also lacking. Solid game, but not buying the hype yet.

It's not the end of the world but it just tarnishes the brand IMO. There's no legitimate reason to have microtransactions in an SP game other than as a cash grab from impatient or ignorant gamers, and I feel that's a shitty thing to do. This is a full $60 title, as well, not some indie or F2P.

That Hair looks dreadful. Hair is kind of tricky to render realistically though.

That is kind of a cut scene to be honest. I had other issues with the video during that same cut scene, like barely noticeable dots, almost like wire frame points showing on her skin/forehead. On one of my saves, significant amounts of tables/counters do not render, so walking around with stuff apparently floating in air. I restarted again, went through the "tutorial" and it is fine now. I'm liking the game, but it is harder than I expected to get into. Once I am able to figure out a good way to do the abilities, I think it will be fine.
