Fallout 4

I really just wish they'd patch in the ability to go between a controller and m+k.

When I'm wandering around or building stuff I like the controller, but in a firefight I'd like to be able to just set it down and grab my mouse and keyboard.

Tried the Beta Patch without any good results. After Steam updated I could no longer run any mods. The plugins.txt file was reset to stock every time I ran FO4. Nothing I did, which includes marking plugins.txt read-only, would fix the issue. Unsubscribed from Beta, updated plugins.txt and the game is back to normal.

Anyone else having issues with the Beta patch?

Okay.... I'm lvl 17 and sneaking is working damn well now.

Killed Swan with a supressed gun. Used about 500 bullets to do it but I did it!

crazy that so many games have keyboard remapping issues in 2015...so many times it takes a patch to enable the use of arrow keys as directional movement or in the case of Fallout 4- to be able to use the NumPad keys...as a gamer who uses the arrow keys for movement (and also the NumPad for other functions) this is unacceptable

seems like the beta still causes keybinding issues for people. you still can't just rebind everything. seems like if you bind to the keypad now you lose favorites.

why can't they just make a full rebinding menu? I mean there are games out there with WAY more complex UIs and game play that allow it why can't this? it isn't even a complicated game.

I'm just sticking with my autohot key script at this point. it works perfectly

Fun tip of the day: When you acquire a new settlement, type scrapall into the console to instantly scrap everything in the settlement. This includes Workstations so make sure you store those if you want to keep them.

Time saved: Hours! Thanks.

lmfao, the intro of that video is hilarious. The one deathclaw gets hit midair like 5 times adding more and more velocity to its flight :D

The missile turrets are broken as hell, there's literally nothing that can raid you when you have those setup.

On a side note, I have only been raided once in my 48 hour game...

At this point I've fended off maybe 100 raids in 100 hours.
Yesterday I had 3 simultaneous Defense missions at different settlements.

I just fast travel in, my turrets blow everything up in a few seconds, and I leave. If I ignore the quest, everything gets destroyed.

I have about 45 hours and I've been raided 2 or 3 times. That being said I really haven't messed with the settlement system aside from quest requirements and setting up some containers to store and organize my stuff. I have a feeling the game might match raids to your settlements so that players who don't find the settlement stuff interesting don't get bombarded by raids constantly.

Have been raided 4 times in 80 hours. All weak places, 3 at the same place. I've got two settlements I've worked on and maybe 6 others I just toss down a bunch of defense and ignore. It makes sense the weaker places would be targets but I want to see my strongholds get attacked. And not just by 4 mobs at a time.

How do I create a Spoiler post? I need to ask a question and don't want to ruin the game for peeps.

Lots of heavy machine gun turrets for me. They don't require electricity and I can place them all around the perimeter.

Just remove that space after the first bracket for it to work normally like this...

Anyone have the bug where your weapons don't come up for 5+ seconds after hitting any of the weapon key binds? Kind of annoying. Like if I have a pistol out and I hit "4" to take out something else, the pistol will go away and my other gun doesn't draw for a bit sometimes. Not a huge deal, just annoying.

I get it all the time.

780 SLI with 144hz G-Sync

I just scroll to 3rd person and back to first to get it showing right away.

Yeah, it's pretty annoying. Makes fights a bit of a pain sometimes.

Yes, but I just mouse wheel into 3rd person and mouse wheel back into 1st person and it fixes it. Same thing happens with my pip boy sometimes, too.

Good to know that 3rd person fixes the no-weapon UI thing. I've just been saving and re-loading.

beta patch is up on steam, I've not had a chance to try it but I downloaded it. (university homework - heh)

Yeah, I've found that clicking mouse 1/2 tends to bring the weapon up when it happens, but I'll try the mouse 3 way. Wasn't bothering me too much until it got me killed last night haha. Still didn't matter as my save was 10 seconds earlier but it still pissed me off.

For me it comes back when I zoom.

Definitely doesn't (or didn't - last night I installed the patch) on mine. Reloading was the only option, although I forgot all about 3rd person mode. I'm on a pad, so they map that to the select button...which is otherwise not used.
I played about an hour last night and it never happened, so maybe it's fixed?

Anyone notice melee swings are sort of delayed? I picked up an axe yesterday and quickly clicking the mouse won't swing, I had to click and hold for about half a second for it to actually swing.

So for you guys who have made it pretty far into the game, are any of the survivability perks worth investing in?

50 points of damage resistance for 5 perks (Toughness) seems kind of meh.

I've had Abernathy Farm get raided twice and in ~30 hours of play and those are the only raids I've seen...first was Super Mutants then Raiders.

On that note, there are some "damaged" Tato crops at Abernathy Farm, and some of them simply won't repair. It uses up a Tato but the crop won't repair, and I can't scrap or move the crop, either. I guess it's just bugged.

I finally got Idiot Savant...great perk, though I wish it didn't make that freaking clown noise every time it procs... :(

Melee is fine for me. Some weapons are just slower like the axe. I'm playing melee only on Survival and I find the Combat Knife to be the best weapon 90% of the time due to how quick the windup animation and attack animation are. The Chinese Officer's Sword is also a very balanced weapon due to the speed and range. I also use Grognak's Axe for giggles cause it looks badass but it's really not that great of a weapon since the combination of being slow and having poor range leads to enemies staggering you easily or blocking your attack and punching you in the face twice before you can recover. With the axe it's best to just start your attack animation and time it so the enemy runs into the axe during mid-swing. If you run up to the enemy and then try to attack, you'll probably just get interrupted.

As a melee character Toughness is absolutely worth it especially on Survival and the early-mid part of the game. Between Toughness, Lifegiver, and Rooted, I can tank feral ghouls and the ballistic weapons that Raiders use pretty well on Survival mode.

Overseer's Guardian is pretty insane. ~3000 Caps from Vault 81 (it's on the leftish side of the map, just head left from diamond city). It's a combat rifle that shoots 2 shots but only uses 1 bullet. Mine is at 114 damage I think, might be more now.

Stealth seems a bit useless in this game, my character is mostly oriented around it but I don't find myself using it that often since it takes forever until you can put a silencer on anything that does any damage (pistols are meh), plus the enemies still get alerted when you use a silencer so meh. Aside from that, I'm enjoying my second play through a bit more. Water purifiers are as lulzy as ever.

irl, "silencers" still makes a sound, it just brings down the dB under ear drum destroying levels, mostly under 130 dB.

It's pretty ridiculous when you've got 2 levels of it and it procs on a significant quest turn-in. Gained almost two levels from one quest.

My Deliverer, silenced 10mm pistol, isn't that strong, only around 40 damage with mods.
The rate of fire and sneak attacks made it useful even on higher level enemies. I don't use it as much as I used to, but I was clearing buildings with it and not being discovered well into my 30's. Now that I'm moving farther south of diamond city it isn't as useful. It is still one of my primary weapons depending on what I'm facing.

Gauss rifle for mirelurks is awesome.

I had a explosive 10mm pistol, replaced with a plasma 10mm. The damage (+15 pts) would appear to be the same. The explosive could cripple groups of ghouls... the plasma.... one shots them. It appears to one shot most lower enemies. Not sure why the difference. (stealth is @ 5.9x) The deliverer did not seem worthwhile to me in comparison to the legendary weapons.

I put my stores in sanctuary, which may be a mistake because now preston accosts me with his bullshit every time I go there.

So, I blew up the Institute with the Minutemen. What's next? Am I done with any main quests? All I'm getting now are the small side-quests from the BOS and Minutemen. Is there no other showdown between BOS and the Minutemen? Is my only option now (if I don't want to do the seemingly unlimited sidequests) to go back to a previous save and choose to side with the Institute? When does the game just ...end, lol.

The game isn't designed to 'end' but you've completed the main storyline. Until there is some DLC, you're done with the primary objective. All that's left is side quests, restarting from a previous save point, or restarting from the beginning and playing it a different way.

I've made a big mistake. First time FO player here. I apparently used up my perk points on day 1 on things I totally don't need / want / use but I was too noob to understand I shouldn't try and make my character a jack of all trades. Is my only option to give up on my level 12 character and start over and learn from my mistakes?

Could use a mod or the console commands to reset your perks probably.

I haven't done it myself so not sure the best way to go about it.
