Star Wars: Battlefront Reboot

it was a free beta weekend, nothing wrong with releasing more maps, modes etc...it's not like players get to play it free forever or for some extended period of time

Except DICE MP beta's have always just been a map or two. This is not something new.

It's pretty apparent from the last half dozen posts in this thread that really no matter what DICE would have done for the beta, there would be people squirting tears over it because it doesn't fit their personal hierarchy of needs and demands. The net will be inundated with videos of all maps and maps when the game launches, reviews are a thing, plenty of ways to judge the full package then.

So I am curious what people will be doing November 17? Buy or Pass

Its a tough one for me.

Easy one for me...Pass. No server browser means I won't buy and I won't even consider it. I tried the beta which did nothing to even remotely sway my opinion so it makes the decision even easier.

The only chance of this being a success on PC is the fact it is Star Wars. Every other recently released FPS without a server browser on PC dies a quick death. Now I am not saying a server browser will save a game, see Hardline, but without it I don't expect the game to last for the masses.

I just see the population dropping off quickly just like what happened in Titanfall, Hardline, any recent COD game, etc. I hope for those that buy I am wrong though otherwise you will find it more difficult to play certain modes since it always seems with matchmaking people flock to one mode.

if there is a beta a month before release, it's not a beta. just a demo of released client of the game.

Data miners extracted a huge amount of data from the beta code (WARNING: SPOILERS): https://docs.google.com/document/d/1GLIU0KTIqI1Z-LaIDRwN8h9dUiul_GdVRmBa7IhVUU0/preview

Bottom line? There's a TON of cool stuff that was not in the beta. Again, this isn't necessarily complete, it's just based on the strings that existed in the beta code. I've parsed the most interesting stuff here:

STAR CARDS
THERMAL DETONATOR
-The most popular and widely used grenade in the galaxy. It is easy to use and has deadly results.

EXPLOSIVE SHOT
-Temporarily supercharges your primary weapon to fire explosive bolts.

IMPACT GRENADE
-Having a smaller blast radius than a Thermal Detonator, the Impact Grenade explodes directly on contact with any object.

PULSE CANNON
-An incredibly powerful long-range rifle utilizing the frame assembly of a DLT-20A, the so-called "pulse cannon" has become the weapon of choice for many sharpshooters. The power of its shot is dependent on the charge-up time.

COOLING CELL
-When activated, vents heat from your main weapon and prevents further heat build-up for a short period of time.
-Cools down the primary weapon so that it does not overheat for X seconds

CYCLER RIFLE
-Designed to fire solid projectiles, this crude but reliable rifle is excellent at hitting targets at extreme ranges and penetrating energy shields.
-The Cycler Rifle is rumored to be a modification of the Czerka hunting rifle made by Tusken Raiders after they stole large shipments of the weapon from Imperial lockups.

THERMAL IMPLODER
-The Thermal Imploder compresses and heats the surrounding atmosphere, creating a vacuum that produces a violent implosion within a massive radius.
-Based upon the success of the Thermal Detonator, Loratus Manufacturing developed a substantially more powerful device known as the Thermal Imploder. Unfortunately, its users were often caught in the weapon's massive implosion radius.

CLUSTER SHOT
-Adds an explosive splash to the primary weapon

FLASH GRENADE
-A non-lethal explosive which creates a bright energy flash and loud noise to disorient opponents.

ION GRENADE
-An ion grenade that delivers massive damage against vehicles, shields, and droids.

Rocketpack *(?-out of place, may have been copy/holdover of jumppack)
(PLACEHOLDER) The Rocketpack allows you to traverse the environment.

BARRAGE
-The MPL-57 (Multi-Purpose Launcher) Barrage fires a volley of 3 grenades with a short delay fuse.
-During the Galactic War, Merr-Sonn sought to widen their market share with the MPL-57 (Multi-Purpose Launcher). The versatile nature of this weapon system and its capability of firing a wide range of ammunition made it popular on the battlefield.

ION TORPEDO
-A homing ion torpedo that is designed to deal heavy damage to vehicles and stationary weapons.
-A modification of the popular MPL-57 weapon system engineered to fire ion torpedoes. Extremely effective against vehicles and stationary weapons.

HOMING SHOT
-A homing rocket that locks on to enemy soldiers from afar.

SCOUT PISTOL
-A light side-arm effective at taking out opponents at close range. Quickly loses its capabilities at longer distances.
-PLACEHOLDER The Scout Pistol is the perfect close range wepaon to switch to when your primary weapon is in overheat.

SMOKE GRENADE
-Smoke grenades provide dense smoke that blocks visibility and lock-on weapons.

BOWCASTER
-Depending on the charge-up time, the Bowcaster fires 1 or more explosive bolts in a horizontal arc.
-As robust and formidable as its Wookiee creators, the Bowcaster is more powerful than an average blaster, making it a favorite among mercenaries and bounty hunters across the galaxy.

PERSONAL SHIELD
-The Personal Energy Shield provides protection from energy weapons. However, it offers no defense against kinetic weapons like Cycler Rifles and grenades.
-To minimize casualties, the Empire modified the Droideka Shield Technology for use by ground troops. Although it hindered the use of weapons, it proved popular and was adopted by the Rebel Alliance.

ION SHOT
-A modification which allows your primary weapon to fire ion charged bolts, making it very effective against shields, droids, and vehicles.
-With limited supplies of armaments, Rebel forces often made battlefield adaptions to their weapons. A notable case was the development of an insert which allowed normal blasters to fire ion charged bolts for short periods of time.

JUMP PACK
-Back mounted Jump Pack that utilizes burst thrusters to allow its user to jump over large distances. It is well suited for traversing obstructions and evading danger.
-Although the Jump Pack does not allow for sustained flight, it offers troops a reliable alternative to move quickly across the battlefield.

SMART ROCKET
-A rocket that can be dumb-fired at any target. Automatically switches to guided mode when it detects an enemy vehicle.
-The experimental SoroSuub Rocket was intelligent enough to be fired in dumb mode, then switch to guided mode mid-flight if a target of opportunity appeared.

ORBITAL STRIKE
-A lethal cannon barrage from planetary orbiting ships, covering a large area.
-Capital ships have often altered the tide of battle when called upon for orbital-to-ground fire missions. Boasting turbolasers and pinpoint accuracy, targets have little hope of withstanding their massive barrage.

SQUAD SHIELD
-Portable energy shield that protects users from blasters and other energy weapons.
-Following the Battle of Naboo, weapons manufactures scrambled to modify the Gungan shield technology into a man-portable device. The resulting Squad Shield is now used extensively by Combat Engineers.

CARD REFRESH
-Resets the cooldown on all of your cards.

FOCUS FIRE
-Temporarily grants a considerable bonus to accuracy with your primary weapon. *(? - out of place/ farther than most other descriptions but fit)
-The Focus Fire Star Card will greatly increase your blasters accuracy.

R5D4 DROID
-This droid patrols the immediate surroundings, scans for enemies, and attacks them on sight.

VIPER PROBE DROID
-This droid patrols the immediate surroundings, scans for enemies, and attacks them on sight.

PROXIMITY BOMB
-A powerful explosive that triggers when enemies are nearby.

INFANTRY TURRET
-Automatically detects and attacks enemy soldiers.

VEHICLE TURRET
-Automatically scans for and attacks enemy vehicles.

BLASTER CANNON
-The Mark II is a deployable blaster cannon that uses devastating firepower to keep the enemy at bay.

SCAN PULSE *(? - out of place)
-A 360 degree pulse burst that reveals enemy soldiers, even if they are behind cover or out of sight.

Yeah! That's what I'm talking about.

A few more heroes are surely on their way in the upcoming dlcs.
Not sure why they would pick Leia over others. But okay then. I'm sure she will kick ass.

Thanks for the info, but keep in mind that information from Data Mines can be misleading and should be taken with a grain of salt.

Sometimes ideas/features etc get removed from the game but not from the code. Programming can be like pull threads on a carpet (you tug a thread and something else unravels) therefore some of what the Data Miners found could be stuff the Devs decided not to include becuase it was easier just to wall it off than actually remove it. The classes systems for example we know will not make it into the game as the devs have confirmed this.

The faux-scandal about GTA "Hot Coffee" was a prime example of people finding abandoned code inside of a game.

The faux-scandal about GTA "Hot Coffee" was a prime example of people finding abandoned code inside of a game.

But lets also ignore all those times that "on-disc" DLC was found. "It wasn't finished! You can't expect them to include stuff that's only 50% complete with the base game...Oh it was 99.9% the same at release? Well I got my money's worth you're entitled!"

Earlier this month data-miners discovered that Star Wars: Battlefront will let you play as Princess Leia, Han Solo and Emperor Palpatine...now we have the details on just what playing as these characters entails...Emperor Palpatine attacks with Force Lightning, wherein he emits lightning from his fingertips as he did in Return of the Jedi...he also has a Chain Lightning attack that deals damage in all directions, and a Force Dash that whisks him forward at top speed...he's also the Empire's support Villain and can use the Imperial Resource ability to boost the health of other villains and offer resources to fellow dark side followers...

http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2015...front-leia-han-and-palpatine-join-the-battle/

I want to play Palpatine!...so there can be more then 1 Hero/Villain on the battlefield at once?

P A S S for me.

- No server browser
- No squads
- No commander
- Ship/vehicle spawns by random pick ups is dumb as fuck
- Hero pickup via spawned pick up is ^
- Random spawns - fucking kidding me?
- Plays like COD for 8 year olds on concoles

Game is downright shit. It will last like Titanfall did lol.

ONLY good thing I have seen is the game engine and modeling. That part is stellar. Rest is dumbed down shit for consoles.

Pretty much. Star Wars has always been that rare brand that proved you could polish a turd.

"players spawning close to her (Leia) will spawn as Alderaan Honor Guards."

Intredasting detail shared by gameplay design lead.

Guys,

Seriously, $60...

This.

Personally, I buy probably 3 maybe 4 games at retail price a year plus some on Steam sale. Even if I get 20 hours out of $60 that is huge value to me. I got 300 hours in BC2 and BF3 and about 150 out of BF4 (stopped playing all games last year for a while).

Ya'll are still crying like a bunch of little girls about dedicated servers?

Dedicated servers mean nothing, just another thing for [H] to bitch about.

The only thing you want them for are so you can steal the game and play on unauthorized servers.

$60 is alot if you're trying to decide among a new game every couple weeks but I have seen the game on preorder for $45. Also from what I've played in the beta, not worth even $45 to me.

Sorry but I still go to a monthly LAN party and like gaming with friends. No server browser fucks all that up.

Ask Titanfall how having no browser, random spawns etc (just like this game) worked out........

I think Titanflop had much bigger problems for its lack of longevity than no server browser and random spawns. It was a fundamentally dull game on an old engine. 6 on 6 + braindead bots, lame lockon pistols. Got old quick. Granted, some people feel that way about Battlefront too - especially the people that are mad its not JUST LIKE BATTLEFIELD - but I don't think they're really comparable.

For those who don't like Battlefront and or Dice shooter games, what current multiplayer shooter would you consider as being: in depth, fun, non linear, etc..?

Wow. That's about the dumbest and most naive thing I've read on these forums in a long time. You haven't even tried to understand what's going on have you?

1st, no one is bitching about a lack of dedicated servers. The game has dedicated servers because a peer to peer server system like COD:MW2 is completely unfeasible with 40+ players. Dedicated servers have already been confirmed.

2nd, people steal games and play on authorized servers ALL THE TIME. You don't need an "unauthorized" server to do that.

3rd, people are complaining about the lack of a server browser. Big difference between a server browser and dedicated servers. Without a server browser, no one can rent out a server to host for specific game modes/configurations, nor can their be active admins that kick/ban abusive and cheating players because of the inadequacy of anti-cheat systems. Enjoy getting raped by trolls like yourself with day one hacks. It will be you that's bitching like a whiny little girl when the game community falls apart so quickly.

2/10 troll attempt, would not read again.
2/10? His attempt doesn't even register on the scale. Most trolls at least try to be clever.

Battlefront will also offer a pair of powerful Hero Vehicles to cause trouble with: the Millennium Falcon and Slave 1...Hero Vehicles will be limited to the Fighter Squadron mode, and work in basically the same way as Hero characters. They're acquired by grabbing and activating tokens, you get a single spawn, and once you've been blown out of the sky you'll be returned to the cockpit of your regularly scheduled snubfighter

Both the Millennium Falcon and Slave 1 are faster and more heavily armed than conventional fighters, but Slave 1 is more "arsenal-heavy" and sounds like it's the real bad boy on the block...it packs ion cannons, proton torpedoes, and a jammer that prevents missile locks and keeps the ship undetectable on the mini-map...

Any news on if they added for release.
1. Server Browser
2. Squads
3. Ability to change teams.

It is hard to play with your friends without these things.

damn. Endor looking good.

I'm really looking forward to seeing the Endor map...I'm interested in seeing how the speeder bikes will work since they will not be on rails like the AT-AT's...

Wait...can you play as the fucking Emperor? That doesn't even make sense...like he'd be running around on the ground with troops.
