Star Wars: Battlefront Reboot

Wait, there is no campaign!? This is the first game that I have actually wanted a single player campaign from the battle series. Didn't want one in any of the battlefield games, and got one. Really, really wanted a good star wars single player campaign, and thought for sure they would include one here.

This is a huge disappointment to be sure. I would say it would be somewhat acceptable if they cut the price a little bit, but who am I kidding; that will never, ever happen.

The space battles, well, that would be nice, but dice has always been about infantry plus vehicles/air combat. You can't do much infantry battles in space. Although, I guess you could have ground combat on a big ship like the death star, as there is action going on outside.

I just think a game like star citizen will have the "space combat" on lock. We will see, I usually always wait on dice games to be patched. It took awhile for both bf3 and 4 to be in an acceptable state. I will certainly buy this game at the right price. I'm just not as pumped for it as I once was.

Kinda sounds like the only thing going for this title are (presumably) the graphics. Really a shame because I would love to see a SW:Battlefront title if it was designed the same as the previous games. EA is too goddamn greedy/lazy for that, though, as we all know by now.

they pushed the released date before the movie. so they gut the game and will push everything else as DLC.

The difference between this and Star Citizen is that this game will be out soon. Who knows when Star Citizen will actually be around to deliver on its promises (never?).

As far as singleplayer goes, Battlefront and the original Battlefield games never had a campaign. I guess a singleplayer would be nice, but with Dice at the helm? If that trailer they showed was any indication, it wouldn't be that good.

singleplayer game was against bots for offline use, just like the battlefield games before it.

The "campaign" in previous Battlefront was just the multiplayer maps strung together in a sequence with a weak sauce narrative. I'm relieved DICE finally heard the community about focusing their efforts on multiplayer. Campaigns are for children on consoles. They've got COD's annual copy/paste game for that shit. A lot of companies are moving development away from SP campaigns anyway since the money is in MP, the replayabibility is in MP. How many times are you going to play a SP campaign?

As for the rest of the whining going on, call me crazy but I think I'll wait to see how it actually plays before weeping into a pillow over bulletpoint lists of what it will/won't have.

Though meant to be taken literally, pretty good metaphor for why I'm not super excited for battlefront.

how are players going to be able to control their speeders around the forest like in Return of the Jedi?...seems too fast paced with too many obstacles in the way...unless it'll be a watered down version where there are very few trees in the way

The Endor map in the original 2 had a large, wide open space on one side of the map, which is where a lot of the speeders and AT-STs would usually go.

Wow I can't believe EA gets away with destroying so many beloved franchises...was hyped for this game but after all the news Def not buying...so many things missing

Resident DICE imbecile, Patrick Bach, famously known for claiming that modding is a declining trend, BF4 had improved netcode at release and DICE will never charge for maps explains the absence of space battles:

“We want players to stay in the same [environment] – we don’t want players to fly off and do something over *here.* It’s about the Battlefront experience, so we want to keep you in-atmosphere and fighting with the infantry,” commented Bach.

Interesting quote:

For example, we have created new game modes and made new maps to cater to their specific experience. You could see a tiny snippet of this in our trailer where you saw the Fighter Squadron mode, where you engage in huge Starfighter battles over canyons big enough to be truly epic. Then, for those not in the mood for large scale battles, we have created Missions where players can, for example, take on armies of AI or test their piloting skills. All our Missions can be played either alone or cooperatively, making them perfect for some quick Star Wars action when you have a friend over.

Definitely sounds interesting, and mentions at least a singleplayer/offline element, for playing against AI.

Maybe there is hope after all?

sounds like rogue Squadron, you really aint controlling where you fly. you just aim to shoot.

?Did you play Rogue Squadron? Because I did (The n64 one at least) and you definitely controlled where you flew...it was a very fun game.

yeah, pretty lame without a single player campaign.

Except for years people have been screaming "Why doesn't DICE stop wasting time on singleplayer and focus on making the best multiplayer possible"

Finally they took that advice. Linear campaign youre going to play only once = Zzz...

I love star wars but i think its a dying brand.. even my boys don't care much for it.

even though i loved the battlefront games, i don't know if they will garner enough excitment in that type of game.. if you look at games like KOTOR vs Battlefront, you can see where the star wars brand should be focusing their effort :)

i am with the above though, time for a Kyle Katarn revisit

Don't worry Disney bought Star Wars. They've already started their brainwashing campaigns. ;)

I am pretty excited about the new Battlefront... Episode 7 looks like it's going in the right direction too.

Multiplayer only game that I won't even play = -$

DICE needs to focus on the MP. If that means no SP campaign then that's fine. This game will sell a ton of copies, so don't worry about that.

Personally I am glad they are finally ditching the crappy campaigns to put forth more time and money into the what DICE games are all about, multiplayer.

Play a well-designed singleplayer game instead of half of a badly-designed game that was mediocre trying to do two things at once? Not that eliminating the single-player side has helped in this case. It is clear the game is going to be garbage due to being heavily consolized.

That's because all of their BF SP campaigns have sucked ass and MP is always fundamentally broken at release. You wouldn't hear anyone complaining if DICE was actually capable of delivering both an enjoyable SP campaign and functioning MP.

The vast majority of BF players have been bitching about them dedicating resources towards SP instead of allocating it towards polishing and perfecting the MP. No one is replaying the SP 2 years after release.

in the AT-AT, its just a walking turret and the computer is driving it?
