Eurogamer gave FarCry 3 10/10

let me first say its getting way over hyped . not that its a bad game. i would give it a 6.5-7 out of 10. the main story is rather short and there are four side quests that get repeated about 80 times. plus you would think that being able to take over check points would be good, but once you take all of them there are NO buddies at all, and it gets really boring. my last complaint is rather small but it annoys me quite a lot, i don't like the feel of the guns and i don't like how the buddies react to getting shot its just not satisfying. all in all its a decent game but in my opinion its not worth full price. oh and any main character you end up killing is a quicktime event which looks like you popped some shrooms and a little lsd.

Its called the Michael Bay effect.
Just because a lot of people like a shitty product doesnt make that product good. Its a slippery slope. Transformers is not the Godfather, and it shouldnt get the same rating as it.

No its called common courtesy. If a lot of people like something I feel is shitty product, its not my duty to bash on them for that or the developers making a game lots of people enjoy. A game is to be enjoyed. If a lot of people enjoy COD, more power to them. Reviewers should review that and grade that. I want to know if a game is fun or not to play for the reviewers. As with movies, songs and games, I'm not interested in the technical complexity and intelectual satisfaction of something I am to enjoy for fun. By that, only complex classical pieces would get full grade, while "name your favorite song" would get a crappy grade even though it might be a whole world more fun to listen to.

I think people in this thread even is tired of that grade shit and really just want to know if people enjoy the game or not in fun level grades.

The funniest thing is to run like crazy, pi*** off a tiger, and RUN in the middle of a Base.. then the tiger kills everyone but 1 guard and i finish him with the bow! LOLLLLLL it's very funny to watch with the Camera :)

I sure do love cameras.

Yeah, I was on a mission and the objective was to kill a couple pirates with a knife. Well, I didn't succeed and they started chasing me. I ran off the beach into the water and started swimming. They came in after me and suddenly a shark came up and killed them both and I got the XP points for it! :D

I don't understand the hate in this thread. I think this game pwns hard.

I understand both sides. I love the game and the devs did 'enough' to make it a completely enthralling experience, which i get lost in for hours at a time. If you haven't played with music off, and sounds cranked up with headphones... i highly recommend this.

No game, however, will be perfect.. and when a game can be this engrossing, you find yourself wishing that it were the end-all be-all... which typically can never be accomplished.

Lots of stuff could have been improved to make this more immersive:
-locational damage
-better loot
-more destructible environments
-better AI

But on the whole, they did enough right to make it pwn. The sounds, holy lord the sounds are amazing!

Hope everyone is using the latest drivers for Far Cry 3, your friendly Video Card reminder of the day for Far Cry 3 players:

NV GPUs Install 310.70 WHQL (has even improved performance in HDAO in the game versus 310.64 Beta)

AMD GPUs install Catalyst 12.11 Beta 11 AND Cap 12.11 CAP2 (yes even on single-gpu install the CAP for FarCry 3, it improves AA performance on single-GPUs, so install it)

Enjoy Far Cry 3 today, I am with all of you enjoying it right now as well :)

The music actually detracts from the immersion. The positional audio, ambient sounds in this game are fantastic.

Hope this helps the weird 60+ FPS lag stutter phenomena.

Bought the LE edition for $24.99, cannot complain so far :D

I'm about to try it with the latest AMD drivers and AB limiting my FPS to one below my refresh rate. Will report back later.

where, sir?

3rd party seller, at first glance it comes off sketchy, but you can PM me for details.

Anyways, I just captured my first outpost and decided to do a side mission to kill some dogs with a shotgun. After completed the mission on a side of a hill near a road, I turn around after hearing, "Holy Shit!" I see these bandits car is on fire and three of them are just standing there looking at it and a few seconds later the car explodes killing 2 immediately and injuring one.

I was like . Fucking awesome.

Welp, I'd love to play the fucking game. Unfortunately, I'm forced to log into the UPlay front-end...which refuses to download game information.

Ubisoft, thankfully, has a support page specifically for this problem. They suggest turning off UAC.

It already was.

Set all related .exes to run as Admin...nothing.
Uninstalled my antivirus that I just put on there...nothing.

Can't play the game without activating it, and only through this crippled, nonfunctional bastardized cocksucking ripoff of Steam...and I can't.

So I'm fucked. 50 bucks down the shitter. I hope Ubisoft has a disgruntled employee that feels like some target practice tomorrow.

I am so over games that have front end social logins. These things need to die, seriously. Bring back the good ole day when I can just launch a game, and it runs.

Agreed.

Good early first impressions here on my end overall.

no kidding. between all the damn hoops ive had to jump through to download and install this game, only to be greeted by Uplay... makes me want to go back to pirating games.

i... WTF? i launch the game, it downloads and installs an update. fine.
after its done, a window pops up telling me that theres a new update for it, and will send me to a new site to download it. wtf am i downloading and installing the same thing again? what did we just do 30 seconds ago?

I'm loving the freaking game though, I will be doing a let's play series of it on youtube channel for sure.

Wow, is anyone else running this on a 580?

The game causes my gpu to run to 99% and stay there, which leads to it getting VERY hot and my fan going max which is super loud.

This is the only game that does this, AC3, Sleeping dogs, hitman absolution, Crysis, etc don't even cause it to get this hot or loud.

Really really annoying trying to play it while my gpu fan is like a damn A-10 blowing beside me.

Yes my case is cleaned, and it's well cooled (gentle typhoons for case fans, watercooled cpu, etc).

Yes...my GTX 580 did the same thing.

Look here for my fix to this issue:

Yep, I was hoping to avoid that shit. No dice.

I played to the the first check point then it crashed.

The only thing I hate about the game itself is that there are going to be movie cut scenes you can't skip.

Makes replay tedious as hell.

Been playing this a bit, so I guess I'll give some comments. Overall, I agree that 9/10 or 10/10 is overrated for this game. It's fun but it's nowhere near perfect. Some thoughts:

-The world is HUGE but yet, a lot of it is just fluff. Basically it feels like you are running through the same grassy/hilly areas endlessly to get between objectives. There are some cool areas with waterfalls and caves and whatnot but I kinda wish everything was just a bit more compact.

-The game is far too easy (so far). I'm only playing on Normal (probably should have done Hard) but the enemy AI is borderline full retard and once you get silenced weapons it is ridiculously easy to capture outposts unseen.

-Speaking of weapons, the weapons feel like they have ZERO recoil and ZERO bullet drop or any sort of spread at all. Does this game use hitscan? Because it feels like it. You really notice it strongly when you play the marksman challenge where you shoot birds with a pistol. It is basically like playing Duck Hunt where you just put the sight on them, regardless of distance, direction of motion, etc, and just pull the trigger to get the kills. I never once missed one of the ducks once I figured out it required no leading or anything to hit them. So yeah, not on is it easy but you can exploit it to get fast money. Which leads me to my next point...

-Getting upgrades and money is also ridiculously easy. I've only done a few of the starter missions, spending most of my time capturing outposts and radio towers. I've only done maybe half a dozen of each, but already I have almost max upgrades for every single thing. Not only that, but I've maxed out my money several times already (with the 2nd to max wallet size I believe) and have just blown it buying weapons (even though, LOL, you end up getting them for free eventually with radio tower captures) because I couldn't do anything else with it. You barely need it for anything unless you go nuts with an LMG or flamethrower regularly.

-The end upgrades that require the special rare animal kills is a stupid mechanic, in that you have to complete either an arbitrary amount of captures, or specific locations (not sure which) in order to unlock them. So you end up being stuck with 2nd to last level upgrades for a long time because you don't even have access to the mission to max them out.

-The mission boundary stuff is utterly ridiculous, as many others have said. Several times I have failed a mission because I was just outside the boundary, yet it never warned me that the mission was going to fail. Eventually the screen just jumped to the loading screen and it kicked me back to my previous save without any sort of notification.

All that said, the game is fun and I still feel fairly compelled to keep going in it. Performance is okay but not amazing, and I'm not sure what's going on with the VSync setting (1 frame, 2, etc...all of them feel laggy and messed up for some reason).

So this game is more open world and has a story/side setup more like GTA games as opposed to FO3/TES?

game looks impressive. Still downloading my free copy.

I have no idea what to expect but the most of the reviews people seem to be pretty happy.

only downloading at 500kb/s there servers must be packed with people downloading.

I hate digital media with a passion, and hate all these dumb online interfaces that i have to open just to play a game. I miss the days where i would pop in the disk install, and play the game, no internet, no nothing just a disk and go. Its the way it should be. Everything else should be handled online from WITH IN THE GAME. If it doesn't detect a internet connection then just prevent you from playing online.

what really bugs me is when they automatically "patch" the games with updates i hate, and rather play the version i want.

Agreed. The key point you made is: Unlike Far Cry 2, I keep wanting to play. So that's a big difference.

I'd give this game an 8/10 myself so far. I doubt that score will go higher as I play and on that same note I can't see why it would go down, either. There's lots to like here.

Basically if Far Cry 2 hadn't sucked it would have basically been this game for the most part.

No way is this a 10/10 game.

Agreed. These GODAMMFRICKINGFRONTENDAPPSTORUNTHEGODAM Game is pissing me off.

I must have like 3 or 4 different apps for these games, its out of control.

Insert game disk, install, run. Thats it!!! why did they make this so fucking hard now? Why?

FC3 is a lot better than FC2, i still never finish farcry 2, I got bored of it right away. Liner story with stuff to do on the side is what I like. FC3 might not be a 10/10 game but still a game of great fun even though stuff might not be as a challenging as you wanted.

Not only this, but also cross promote their other shit to get more sales.

Everyone praises steam, but damnit i am tired of closing their stupid fucking adds.

Euhh you can prevent this only by visiting the setting, its just there.. Disable it (in steam). Btw i love digital media... Iam in Montreal and buying a pc games is impossible here...

It doesn't do clipping very well though. I was hiding in a cave and you could clearly hear the guys outside talking right through the back wall of the cave. Look toward the opening and they were talking behind me.

Yeah, 7.5 or 8 out of 10 is what I was thinking as well. I also agree that it is a LOT like Far Cry 2, minus the bad parts of that game (like respawning enemies, etc.). Though I have hit an area in FC3 where enemies keep respawning endlessly for no real reason...

And though performance is not super amazing I have to say, in general, the graphics are amazing for the performance level. There are some really nasty looking ground textures, though, like around steep hills. It's almost like stretched textures or something which looks really bad.

You and I are on the same page.
