Here is one thing I hate. You know those deals where you have to add it to the shopping cart to see the price? Well, NewEgg has taken it to a whole new level. You have to add it to the shopping cart and you still do not see the price. You have to provide your credit card details now as well.
And how much you want to bet that if you accidentally order it and contact them they'll say it's too late to cancel it?
I agree what with others have said about their sorting/filtering functionality though, it's best anywhere. For the juggernaut Amazon is, if you don't know what you're looking for the experience is maddening. I was helping my mom look for a new cordless phone the other day based on some requirements she had given me. After not finding anything that matched them after over half an hour of searching, I came across a phone that fit perfectly in a "Customers who have looked at this product have also looked at" list. Somehow it had never appeared in my searches/browsing despite the fact that I had looked at *all* the phones of that particular brand.
There has never been a time when "only nerds knew about newegg" as some of you believe. Newegg has been nothing but a stellar online presence since it's inception and is the #2 online retailer after Amazon. Your perception of Newegg was simply wrong. Nothing more.
Staples.com is actually the 2nd largest online etailer in the world after amazon.
In the world, perhaps, in the US, it's Newegg. They are a profit machine.
I miss the days when only the nerds knew about the Internet.
According to what measure? The only reference I can find to such a title is in the tech-only department, and that was last year. They most CERTAINLY are not #2, that goes to iTunes/Apple.
NewEgg doesn't even make the Top-100 list for all retailers from 2011. Amazon is in the top-20 with Apple/iTunes close behind...even wasteland-stores like Radioshack and Home Shopping Network make that list.
By Forbes. How about it?
Newegg makes BILLIONS. I can't believe you people think it's some small operation. itunes isn't a retailer. They don't sell you physical product. We're talking about e-retail. Not fucking grocery stores. Should I really have to say this? This is a tech site.

Without public trading , we really have no idea how big Newegg is. Correct? I mean Valve is still a mystery , no one really knows for sure how much capital they have yet estimations are never stopped on its current value.
Uh, yes, with Newegg you do, since they filed for an IPO, which its since withdrawn. It hasn't had a down year since it started selling in 2001. For all you people talking shit like "newegg employee", I simply went and looked when I heard about the IPO years ago. Frankly this company has always been relatively large. I simply attacked the concept of "only geeks knew about it". That's a bunch of crap. They carry rice cookers for God's sake. Get a clue people.
NewEgg only started selling tables, rice cookers, Halloween costumes, and other crap made in China in the last few years within my knowledge. There was a time when they only did computer hardware....just like there was a time when their "Daily Deals" were actual deals and not just items being adverted at MSRP.
They email and chat support is just laughably, insultingly inept.
Show me any company where that is not the case now a days!

Agreed. Just searching for a not so incredibly popular item on Amazon is often a long process. All the sub stores or retailers make regular search functions not strong enough. My single biggest beef with Amazon is their search engine , not up to par for how massive they are.
Last month I ordered from Newegg for the first time in almost a year (had gift cards, only reason I ordered anything at all), and they shipped me not only the wrong item (I ordered an air purifier, they shipped me a rackmount server chassis), but it was much more expensive than what I purchased.
When I complained, they tried to make me pay return shipping (lol?), and then refunded me using the wrong funding sources despite assuring me 3 separate times they would not do this. It eventually got sorted out (the refund I mean, they never did send me the original item, and in fact told me NOT to order it again as they told me I would be shipped the wrong item again), but the Newegg of 2012 is truly a joke.
edit: I should also mention I had to physically telephone call Newegg personally twice to resolve it. They're email and chat support is just laughably, insultingly inept.
Never had any other problems with Newegg though. If it weren't for the anal rape 'shipping' charges i'd still use them.
Newegg might have a sales uptick.
Amazon is starting to charge sales tax on September 1st for CA and PA.
Of course Newegg already charges sales tax in California, but they don't for Pennsylvania.
I still use Newegg on a regular basis to *find* items. Once I find the part I need I tend to order it through someone else these days. The biggest thing that kills Newegg for me is their pricing on APO/USPS shipping. They gouge the fuck out you with those prices. A 27'' LCD that weighs 18 pounds costs $90 to ship through Newegg.
Just thought Id chime in and cast my vote. Amazon has taken all my business too. Free 2 day prime shipping and no CA tax are HUGE. The new business model of newegg selling all this extra crap is annoying.
And heres some salt in the wound - as I think a few people already mentioned amazons search / item display system sucks the big you know what... so I goto newegg for research, item search, descriptions and pics etc. then just match the items I need at amazon. How sad is that. It is what it is I guess.
Alot of times Amazon is cheaper, sometimes its not. However shipping + CA tax is always going to add 10-20%, so... if it is direct from amazon its very rarely more.Amazon doesn't always have near as good of pricing as newegg.. and yeah, their seach is a huge pile of you know what.
I am still willing to pay a couple more dollars to newegg.. which usually isn't the case anyway just for their organization of products.
Even when searching for specific things on Amazon, it doesn't always bring up what you are looking for... plus then if you want the prime shipping, you have to make sure it is sold by Amazon and not a different seller on Amazon. A lot of the time, Amazon has a higher price than other sellers of the same item on Amazon.
Big huge mess is what it is.
