Diablo 3 Discussion Thread

While it doesnt, the pirated cracked copy of the game actually did crack it so it plays offline....but shhh, we dont talk about that stuff here. :)

Its a moot point anyways since if you used those files, then you wouldnt be able to play on bnet again and may even risk getting in trouble.

I think its a good option for people who bought the game and might not want to play online though.

Good. It shouldn't.

Yeah, I don't give a crap about playing online. And since i'm on an imac with bootcamp I could setup one version to play in OSX and the other to play in Windows. Best of both worlds!

How would this work? Isn't everything server side like WoW? Did someone create items themselves? Curious.

So a game series which had a great single player experience in the first two games, shouldn't have one in the third?

I think it should have had single to make people happy but, also remember. Diablo2 was completely pointless and didnt really work in single player. You couldnt craft stuff, get runewords, etc, etc. Nobody played D2 single player as playing solo is so insanely easy, everyone played online in packs of 8, thats where the fun is. Why would you want to farm gear single player, that doesnt even make sense.

Should it have single player? Probably, but I dont really care that it doesnt personally. Its a moot point since they very clearly stated months before its release that it wouldnt have single player.

I honestly dont know since I havnt downloaded it or tried it. But, I know its released and had confirmation that it works, apparently. My guess is they routed where it stores stuff to your hard drive instead.

If everything was server side you wouldn't have a 9gb install or a 30gb wow install.

And you can run WoW offline too. There are private servers out there and the software to setup your own.

You know what I mean. 9GB could easily be the maps, cinematics and audio files. I haven't looked myself but I can't see it being difficult to get to 9GB.

I'm talking mainly about items obviously. I'm sure you could setup a private server just like WoW to have it connect to. Hell I did it back in the day just to see what it was like. But nothing ran, it took a lot of work to make things "work." Drops, mobs, etc. But that was way back in the early WoW years.

But what I'm saying is I don't believe a cracked copy would play like other games - max payne, just cause 2, whatever normal SP games are out there.

In wow private servers you had all the art assets. But yeah, nothing moved till you set it up.
I would assume with Diablo that the install includes all the items as well.
I get the feeling it doesn't have the cinematics because when I was playing I was still downloading the game which maxed my connection and the cinematics were stuttering pretty bad as a result.

Anyone have a full list of patched items for today's update? I'd google, but everything game related seems to be blocked.

I always full download/install before playing. Never tried to "stream" it when it gave me the "okay you can kinda play now but we're still downloading/installing stuff."

I'm sure the files are there if you look. I would but I'm at work.

However, I doubt the items are client side because that would go against their attempts to fight item duping and all that. Would it not?

exactly. the AH is flawed dude. its like oh these crazy good rolls are SUPER rare. and thats hella true. too bad there are 6 million people playing and that makes SUPER rare not rare enough. The AH is flooded with amazing items rendering drops in game worthless and making me hate the game. I love diablo but I dont want to buy all my gear from the AH. too bad I have to because i have a 300 dps sword and my friend bought a 900 dps blue from the ah for 300k

If you look correctly you can get your item for cheap also there are easy ways to farm gold.

I got a 490 DPS bow for my DH for 30k gold. The reality is its part of the game, if it bothers you that much pre-order Torchlight 2 or something.

Are you guys able to play?

I login and then it connects and says I need a patch, then it exits and says it will now download the patch and it crashes. Rinse and repeat. No patch is getting downloaded.

The initial D3 update screen that pops up always say the game is up to date.

Well I know they are there for wow because you can pull them up on private servers. And several websites datamine the patches for those and can pull them up.

Well all I can tell you is the cinematics stuttered during the download while I was playing. I can think of no other reason why they would do that. I would have expected them to be client side.
There is a cutscene.mpq in the folder.

The problem for me, anyway, is that farming for gold is nowhere near as exciting as farming for items. I farmed gold for a bit, bought some more gold find gear, and now am pretty much burnt out on farming gold---which is apparently all the game is.

They are definitely client-side, and are downloaded last after the core game files, which is what allows you to play before the game is done downloading/installing.

The intro movie actually paused for a second and said "buffering..."

I have the game downloading now in OSX and the time stamp has the cutscene.mpq downloading before the coredata.mpq and clientdata.mpq

It's pretty exciting for me. Also, I have 3 chars at 60 in Inferno now (int, dex, and str char) so there's a lot of possibility for upgrades.

I found a 1030 dps monk fist with 17% ias and sold it for 5 mill. Do I have a monk that uses it? No. Was it damn exciting to find it? Hells yea.

Farming for gold and stuff does kinda stuck. But I'm more into progressing through Inferno, killing elite mobs and bosses.

It's all a bitch and finding gear is tough, but when you clear something that difficult, feels good.

Snooze fest. Cool, sure, but exciting? I'd rather put parquet in (and I did).

Item tool-tips are stored locally but the actual code of the item itself is stored on the server. That's why duping is near impossible, we don't know what that code looks like and nothing short of hacking directly into the servers will tell us. Just because the item is on the private servers doesn't mean it would work on the Bnet servers. Someone just manually created the item and put it in the database. If you tried to upload it to the official servers it would get flagged immediately because it would not have some sort of proprietary token showing it was generated by the server.

The people that have private servers on WoW just have a sql server program running with databases that have items, scripts, blah blah. The way to make the private server is pretty easy, all you do is take the client and see what it is asking for from the server then make the server respond with the correct info. That's why we saw people making sandbox hacks of the beta like a week after it came out. The hard part comes in at actually coding all the information that needs to come from the server.

Also, that is one of the reasons that Blizzard gave us to why they reduced the stash size. The stash used to have 5 tabs in the beta but since items are generated with random properties it made the actual code for each item very large. By reducing the amount of space people can store items they reduced the amount of items that the server as to store at any given time.

I personally like the itemization after you get into it.

Getting those perfect rare items for your class is awesome.

Broke down and bought a weapon on the AH for starting Nightmare. We'll see how long it takes to replace. I'm having issues with the AH though. So slow.

Don't you just buy them or you the lucky guy that gets drops? I killed Skeleton King on Hell difficulty just then and every rare possible on the map to that point; even reset the map and nothing, nadda, zilch.

Well I lied in a way. I got some level 41 rare boots for a Barbarian on my Demon Hunter. Skeleton King dropped a level 50 blue shield for a wizard though. First level 50 item I've seen in Hell. Everything else was below my level.

I've gotten drops and bought stuff on the AH.

I found a Wiz 1H with these stats:

40 DPS
~115 Int
~70 Vit
X Mod
Socket

Lvl 25-30ish I think.

That's pretty damn nice for hardcore. That's my best find. I've found a couple nice armors and such as well. All found through normal playthrough.

Does hardcore have its separate stash or can you farm the good equipment with your non-hardcore character?

I believe it's separate. If it wasn't, it would kinda defeat the purpose of hardcore mode.

That being said, what's the farthest anyone has made it in hardcore here?

29 DH = (, Died to two explosions that sometimes happen after you kill creeps. Saw both of them and thought I was far enough away, underestimated the range on those bad boys. Probably gonna start up another HC character soon, boss fights are so much more fun when you can't die :D

I wouldn't dare attempt it, with all the latency issues.
