Diablo 3 Discussion Thread

29 DH = (, Died to two explosions that sometimes happen after you kill creeps. Saw both of them and thought I was far enough away, underestimated the range on those bad boys. Probably gonna start up another HC character soon, boss fights are so much more fun when you can't die :D

Ouch, so 29 levels down the drain eh? You at least get to keep the hard earned gold and items right?

Yea, I got to keep all of my stash items and gold, all my equipped items are toasty toast. I have 3 of the items I need for the secret level though :D Need to level up another char and clear act 4 to get the staff plans so I can farm some sweet drops and gold.

I'm thinking of maybe goin with a monk, i know if i progress decently far the ranged chars are kind of squishy in comparison.

HC might be fun to mess around with I guess. But I wouldn't play it for serious. Not worth the risk imo.

D3 servers shutting down again. Fyi.

You shouldnt be able to get in. It was intentional.

lame, was going to play but getting a server busy error.

I think of it the other way. What's the point if you can just die over and over and farm gear?

The point is I won't consider suicide after I lose a character I've spent a lot of time on?

If I couldn't play my lvl 60 wizard, if he was gone tomorrow. I would stop playing for a while. I've put maybe 80 or so hours into that character. Takes a lot to just start that over.

Especially if you die to some bullshit like server lag. Fuck that noise.

Yup, servers are down.

Was crossing the Silver Span and mere minutes away from Hell Diablo, dinged 60 on my wiz doing it.

Hopefully the waypoints were saved because it'd suck the do the whole Act again.

They do, but sometimes it's iffy and you get sent back to checkpoints instead of waypoints. I hope for your sake this isn't the case because I loathe the Silver Span.

^^^^ that particular place is so unreasonably hard that I think the boss is actually easier!

You'd be surprised how much more fun HC makes the game. I have a lvl 60 barbarian on normal mode and thats fun to farm inferno and stack NV, but when you're right outside of a boss with a group of friends and you're all amped up because you literally can't afford to fuck up, it just adds that much more to the game.

I look at it more as a way to keep the game fun because you constantly have to be thinking ahead and strategizing based on the type of mobs you're facing. You can't go into it assuming you're going to live, you have to always be thinking that death could be right around the corner. If you anhero because you lose a char on D3, you got some issues son.

I believe it's separate. If it wasn't, it would kinda defeat the purpose of hardcore mode.

That being said, what's the farthest anyone has made it in hardcore here?

I've got a Hardcore level 27 DH in Act III Normal. Came within a sliver of dieing during the Belial fight thanks to the poison everywhere, but managed to survive. I've picked up more Vit gear since then. I think I'm currently at 3500hp, which is pretty good for Normal.

I go into every fight thinking I'm going to die. I just take it one step at a time, picking up gold, adding to the stash, expanding it, upgrading jeweler and bs, banking mats for other characters. It'll get easier everytime I start a new guy thanks to the loot I leave behind. No need to stress death other than I have to start over... :p

3500hp... wow I freak out about how easy it is to die with a 13k HP DH... I guess in normal difficulty its no big deal.

I don't think I could do a DH on HC mode... DHs die all the time and are meant for group fights with barbs to tank damage.

I doubt it. But that's why the option is there. For people who enjoy losing shit they've worked for. I don't.

And my suicide claim was obviously a dramatization.

Permadeath IS an interesting option in certain games because it adds a real consequence to making mistakes, rather than "oh I lost 500 gold". It completely changes the way you approach a lot of encounters and adds a ton of tension to tough battles.

There's no reason to make passive-aggressive jabs at the people that enjoy it.

It's all intangible. HC is a challenge much like we faced in Super Mario Brothers or Contra (sans cheat codes). It's also a major mechanic in the majority of Roguelikes, which Diablo technically is.

If you look correctly you can get your item for cheap also there are easy ways to farm gold.

I got a 490 DPS bow for my DH for 30k gold. The reality is its part of the game, if it bothers you that much pre-order Torchlight 2 or something.

If you look really closely, you can find amazing deals. I think some people get confused by the big numbers and end up missing a zero sometimes. There has been a few times where I've found an 800-900 dps weapon for under 100k, a couple times under 50k.

I found a 1030 dps monk fist with 17% ias and sold it for 5 mill. Do I have a monk that uses it? No. Was it damn exciting to find it? Hells yea.
Did you happen to sell it a couple days ago? I bought a 1030 dps fist for my Monk. :p

Nah, I sold it to the Monk in my party. He only had 2 mill at the time, so I put him on a payment plan :p

This was originally posted by WRECK. but blizz keeps deleting these and i feel without these posts noone will hold blizz accountable for their mistakes.

"Well I have to applaud Blizzard in all reality. From a business stand point it would seem like you're on the perfect track to make the shareholders at Activision very, very pleased.

You've taken a game with so much hype built around it, a game with a rabid and wildly large fan base, a game vaulting off of the massive success of the previous generation - and you've turned it into your sacrificial lamb.

I understand that WoW is dying. The cash cow that you have been able to depend on to fill your coffers is finally drying up. It had a great run. MoP is not likely to defibrillate the failing heart of what was once the WoW empire, and you know this. Starcraft 2, while an amazing game, cannot replace this cash cow - then again it wasn't meant to. How could it? Your business foresight is very, very attuned. Because of this you carefully planned your next chess move: Diablo 3.

What better way to birth another golden goose than to bank an entire game off of the most addictive part of what Diablo 2 was: the item grind. Pure brilliance. And so, from the ground up, you formed this game to be solely about item exchange - this would be the titan built to replace WoW's subscription based bankroll in the form of micro transactions.

Except one thing: you're boring.

On May 15th 2012, after nearly a decade of anticipation, we were given Diablo 3! Except, it's not quite Diablo 3. It's a slimmed down, cut up version of the Diablo 3 everyone was taught to expect. Except, it wasn't given to us, we still had to pay you full price for it: $60.

My how the mighty hath fallen. Why is it not Diablo 3, you say? Well let's see. Anyone remember all those teaser videos spoon fed to the community over the past 3 years? Videos slowly leaking to us glimpses of the content we could expect to experience? I do.

From nearly FOUR years ago:

@2:10 "These current weapons just won't do!":

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5K0YkUH6r6c&list=UUCGf0PicJgNp6yb7xsdZAwA&index=1&feature=plcp

I guess scrapping this idea all together was more developmentally cost effective.

@6:30 "Let's see what a real fight looks like."

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RT4K6e2q10g&list=UUCGf0PicJgNp6yb7xsdZAwA&index=10&feature=plcp

Indeed, lets. I'm still waiting, actually. Is it just me or does that environment look entirely more engaging than the atmosphere we've purchased at release?

@2:00 Did he say randomized, dungeons, quests and encounters?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pMAyxY7mjzI&list=UUCGf0PicJgNp6yb7xsdZAwA&index=7&feature=plcp

If their idea of newly generated fights, quests and environments is a continuous cycle of the same things from a pre-conceived list, he's spot on!

So where's the beef? - some might say. The beef is that this is not Diablo 3, this is an imposter. A hologram. An artificial replacement. A lame duck substitute for what hype built it up to be. A cut up and slimmed down version of what should have been. In essence: a slaughtered, sacrificial lamb.

That leaves myself and thousands of others saying indeed, where is the beef? Blizzard's answer: there is no cow level. But hey, we got rainbows and unicorns!

Is anyone still in complete denial about how truly boring this game is or have people started to shake off the honey moon dust?

You eliminated enchanting, PvP, pet companions and other things from the release version so that you could market it as part of a later expansion for more money. (This is a trend in gaming that several developers have been following; withhold content you've been advertising for the past two years and charge a premium for it at a later date. I shouldn't have expected Activision-Blizzard to be any different, and that is my fault. I wrongly assumed this group was made of trend setters and leaders, not followers - so shame on me.)

You didn't include a single player mode because you can't make money off of people if they aren't using the AH in a multiplayer format. Less work for you in the development stages, and forces people to engage in the micro-economy that your bankroll is based on. Again, brilliance. Which leads me to my final point:

There is so LITTLE dynamic to this game I cannot believe it took this many years to create it. In fact, I don't. So why the long wait? I'll tell you: economic law.

More specifically, the legality and complications that stemmed from the idea of a multinational game built around a Real Money Auction House. This process, I imagine, took years to iron out - while the game itself probably took no more than a few actual working years to complete (and it truly shows).

It doesn't take an overly intelligent mind to figure WHY they would want to use a RMAH and get a cut of (a lot of) the transactions. That's fine. Here's the problem: you built the entire game around a pure gear grind, and then force that gear grind to revolve around the AH, specifically the RMAH. There is literally no other dynamic. When you build a game from a purely business stand point, you're not building a great game - and a great game this is not.

In conclusion, gamers, do you really want to spend your time on yet another slave-like gear grind? If so, eat your heart out. You'll find no better place to do it! If not, there are a plethora of other games out there much more deserving of your $60, I promise.

Diablo 3 was built around Activision's greed. Participate at your own will.

Gamers hold grudges and people aren't going to forget this disaster. If you obliterate your true fan base, the pillars of your success come falling soon after.

I give this post less than a few hours before it is deleted by Blizzard moderators. Can't have that bad flavor out there, can we? Truth hurts.

Regards, a long time fan."

It's like back on release day trying to log in

Hahah I know - reliving nostalgia...oh wait. It's only been 2 weeks rofl.
A joke I made was the music in ActIV sounds more like the "login error" music than Diablo music. If only that wasn't true hahahah.

In response to the essay of a post above:

1. Why would you want a cow level? you can go play it in D2, I'm glad they still have a secret level and am even happier they changed it to something just as humorous as the Hell Cow originally was.

2. Is it wrong for a business to make money? I'd be interested to get a look into the finances of such a developer to see exactly what their profit margins are. Regardless, a successful business makes money, blizzard is a successful business, they make fun games to play. . . I don't really see the ZOMG they charged me $60 for a game that takes 100+ hours to play through inferno.

3. How does this game take so much hate for charging $60 + future muns for expansions when the COD series and BF series, which are literally just re-hashes of the exact same shit, take way less flack for repeatedly charging $60.

My whole view of the situation revolves around people wearing nostalgia glasses and remembering the good ol days and getting their hopes way too high. Let the patches roll out, let PVP get integrated and just relax a little bit. Look at the bright side, it doesn't require a monthly subscription.

This game is going to be like what the NFL world experiences with Andrew Luck. People had to wait an extended period of time for the next coming of christ and built up such an ungodly amount of expectations that there is no possible way to live up to them.

The PvP patch is gonna be a significant patch. I want Xmas release, but I have a feeling it's easily a 2013 thing :p

*And on the football note, RG3 has similarly high expectations, but even more pressure being in the DC market.

jesus balls I just want to play D3...why so many login issues two weeks after release :(

This is a bunch of fucking horse shit. Seriously! WTF Blizzard. I can't believe the game took as long as it did to make and for it to be this shoddy, consolized, and pokey. I am so GD tired of only having 4 abilities to use and having to constantly recast my armor spells. This interface to this game can go jump up its own ass. What a fucking steaming pile of tripe D3 is... it can't even see the boundaries of the shadow of D2 it crawls around in.

RIP Diablo

I got in after about a dozen ctrl-v spams.

Eating dinner now, but going to stay logged in just in case!

I agree with everything except consolized. I hear it once in a while re: DIII, but it just doesn't apply. I mean, there are more than a few graphics options (compared to Crysis2, for example), the menues are VERY unfriendly to a gamepad, and tbh, I don't think you could play DIII on a console. You couldn't aim abilities at all...
