Dell U2412M

I got three of these in the other day and so far am extremely pleased with them, no bad pixels no real bleeding that I can tell so far. Colors need a bit of correcting but out of the box I am quite happy. Now to wait for the HD7000's to release as my 5850 is having a heart attack with Eyefinity at this resolution lol.

I spent a long time looking at all the options and debating between E-IPS and S-IPS. I'm not sorry I went with these at all. Still need to configure and tweak them to get the most out of them but I have to relearn monitor calibration first heh.

In the small business Dell site, yes you can apply this coupon code ZXP20F740G$W11 and get 15% off, however it negates the prior $40.00 discount (they did not stack), for an adjusted price of 313.65. Yeah, it saves $15 over the home site of $329, however shipping in the small biz site is $19.00 and currently free in the home site! Pretty much a wash.

Having combed the internet and watched two dozen videos, the lighting pattern I show above in my photos is consistent, sort of a pyramid, which in itself is not all that disturbing, but the color tinting on my particular copy is really noticeable to my eyes. I'm debating another purchase (perhaps order 2 from Dell and keep the better one) just to find a yellow tint-free screen. I'd keep both if I got lucky in the panel lottery. ;)

I'm also looking at trying the HP ZR2440W from Amazon ($426 price of the day) since it is very comparable and actually has an additional digital input which would work well for my setup. I wish there were more reviews available.

alright i made fedex give me the monitor even though the box was damaged..

this monitor is AMAZING.

i was shocked by the colors out of the box..insane... I played a few games and then watched HD limitless and I was simply FLOORED. can't express my happiness

Yea, I just tried it out. Sneaky! So it looks like this $299 price point from a week ago is long gone. That really sucks. With tax and shipping, this thing becomes $361 for me in NY :(

Weird, I just ordered 2 today from Dell Small Business for $293 each free shipping. I think it helps to actually call them because it's cheaper than going on their site.

I'm going to call the rep that was mentioned in this thread tomorrow. Wanna PM me your info so I can say that so and so just bought it yesterday for $293 free shipping? LOL

I used live chat when I got mine (2x) for $300 + tax with free shipping, even lost the connection halfway thru but they sent me a PDF with the price quote and we then coordinated a time to order by phone.

Did you have to haggle at all? And were you able to use any SB coupons?

Got mine in last night. Looks to be the same quality as my 2209wa which I now have set up as a portrait to the right of the U2412M. I only adjusted the contrast and brightness to match the 2209wa, nothing else.

Played about 40 seconds of Orcs Must Die just to see if it had the same color reproduction as the 2209wa, which it did.

i will try to get a pic later tonight.

does anybody want to share their calibrations? I have only lowered the brightness because it's strong.. was pretty sensitive to it from 10 feet away in a dark room haha.

out of the box the colors are fantastic though so I'm debating messing with it at all

I have noticed the blue tint that many people have mentioned on the sides when the screen is white but otherwise basically flawless.

Here are 10e's settings, from this thread:

From http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/dell_u2412m.htm they calibrated:
Brightness 35
Contrast 75
Custom color RBG: 98, 90, 92

Just a quick update. I got off the phone with the Dell rep a little while ago. I got the monitor for $293+tax free shipping for a grand total of $320.66. I have to give big thanks here to Lolang and genegold99 for introducing me to their rep. She was incredibly helpful and gave me a better deal than I got with the EPP program at my job. She said I should see it middle of next week. I can't wait!

High ISO, long shutter, no tripod picture of a temporary setup.

U2412M -> 2209WA in portrait.

How's that Tank 7 beer? Haha.

The rep said to expect delivery of mine middle of next week, but the website says 12/23. I hope it actually gets here when she said, because I don't want to be away for the holiday :X

Took you long enough! ;-) Wish more potential buyers posting here would make the call.

Haha, I was trying to see what the best price I could get was. I work for a large international media company (pstt.. think Jersey Shore) and we have personal Dell reps as well as the EPP program. Turns out Tori gave me the best deal! I will use her for all my Dell purchases. Thank you again, seriously!

How well does the Dell 2412h work for PS3 and Xbox if at all? It doesn't seem to have HDMI.

Does it stretch the image or does it have black bars to display HD res?

silasbear, that is an awesome lamp.

Kirika, I'm not sure, but I think you can choose from 16:9 and 16:10 in the system's menus. If not, I'd imagine letter boxing.

It can't, it has a limited scaler that doesn't support 16:9. 16:9 can only be achieved through the GPU scaler. Got my U2412M today, no disturbing backlight bleed but lots of IPS glow that can be mistaken for BB. My four years old NEC LCD20WGX2 had none of either:(

Xbox 360 can output 1680x1050 and adds black bars to properly display 16:9 images on a 16:10 screen, but PS3 can't, as it only supports "TV" resolutions, from what I know.

The NEC is an older S-IPS panel so the glow is violet/orange versus silver of eIPS and H-IPS panels, and it's smaller. The only panels that are older style S-IPS these days are in the Dell 2007FP and ST2220T the latter being glossy as well.

Compared to other 24" eIPS/H-IPS panels, the U2412M is actually pretty good in this regard.

True, I have both consoles but I never bothered to connect them to a monitor, neither my old NEC nor the new DELL are provided with HDMI input. I do prefer playing pc games in 16:9 with black bars though, to 16:10.

Yup, glow was violet in my case but almost unnoticeable cause of the NEC's smaller size and also cause it was a great "non-recession times" display, built without cutting corners. Anyways, glow on the DELL is something that may bother when you have a dark image displayed which in my case isn't very often. I noticed a couple of yellow-ish areas on the sides when displaying a white image but they're so faint that it I'm not sure what to think. You must really pay attention to notice the change in color. Very little backlight bleed in my case (rev A02), almost unnoticeable in a dark room with brightness and contrast cranked to max. Btw, I read that after a burn in period certain problems disappear or get better. which exactly?

Usually back-light bleed will reduce over the first week or so after the manufacturing tension reduces a bit, at least that's what I found. I had a bit of a BLB cloud on the top right that is completely gone now.

@movdx: Excessive BLB was never a problem with this screen

does anyone know if I can pass through DVI on the Displayport port on this monitor?

IE can I use a displayport to DVI adapter?

Damn it. Was finally able to pick up my 2 monitors from UPS today. One box was dinged up, was too big for the monitor and stuffed with packing paper to compensate, and the styrofoam packaging around the monitor was broken. That monitor has four big purple splotches across the screen, most noticeably on darker images. The second box looked OK and the styrofoam packaging was intact, but the monitor has a dead pixel in the middle of the screen. This on top of all the shipping delays. I'm extremely unhappy with this order.

Update: On Monday Dell will over-night ship me two new monitors for exchange. Big thumbs up for the customer services, here's hoping the panels themselves arrive in better shape.

Didn't haggle one bit, didn't now about any coupons either so no. This was over a month ago now tho. Edit: Oops, I see you got them for a similar price via the rep mentioned a few times in thread, cool. I was actually gonna call after someone PM'd me the info too but ended up trying my luck first on live chat.

After using this monitor for a couple of days, anyone who used a 2209wa, this will be a nice and seamless upgrade if you get a good unit.

Very happy with purchase.

Yep, she definitely took care of me. I recommend everyone use her. And hopefully she makes a commission. Haha.

quick question. i have a chance to get the 2412 or the 2410 at about the same price, 8 dollar difference. i only game, watch movies and web surf. which is better for what i do and i have a gts 450, how much of a better card do i need to get without giving it a heart attack. thnx

I'd say a NVIDIA GTX 560 TI or a an ATI HD 6950 should allow you to play many games maxed out on a 24". New gen GPU's should be out soon though, so maybe you should wait a month or two for the current gen cards prices to drop. I'm no monitor expert, I only lurk here for useful info, but probably for your use the U2410 would be overkill, given it's wide gamut. Plus the U2412M should be much cheaper, either you found a killer deal on the 2410 (if it's new) or the 2412 is overpriced.

i found a killer deal for a 2410. a friend just upgraded to a 30" so i can get his 6 month old 2410 for $320

Pretty good deal indeed, but it sounds like it's overkill for you and may actually be worse in some senses. As for the GPU, AMD might have new stuff out in two months but I think NV is further out (as in Q2). It's not a terrible time to buy a mid range GPU for gaming at 1920x1200, even tho prices have been stagnant for 10+ months.

thnx for the suggestions. just didn't know if it was a deal i should pass up or not, considering how much the 2410 usually goes for.

Dell sp2309w on the right and Dell u2412m a02 on the left. Colors are a bit off, lighting in the room isnt great.

Does anyone know if the picture quality is worse with a vga connection vs a DVI/Display port connection? thanks

For the record, I think that 10e's settings look better than the TFT Central settings. I've got my monitor in a dark basement lit with incandescent lighting.
Yep. Tried both TFT Central and FlatPanelsHD calibrated color settings and found that both of them produced a color tint to the grays. 10e's color settings are warmer, but it's what I've always preferred because it looks more accurate and is easy on the eyes.

Just got my U2412M :D
Great monitor, got no problem with AG coating.
Now I am trying both TFT central and 10e's calibration, the TFT calibration got a bit of a tint to the greys, I like the 10e's settings, I just use 40 brightness instead of 45.
Perfect copy in my eyes :)
