Battlefield 3 General Discussion Thread

Really? I should check whether I have it. Is it unlockable camo?

I was wondering recently why some players are much much less visible then other. This is the reason, probably.

from memory ( it's a so long time , lol ) it's the last camo to unlock

One thing to consider with Spec Ops camo, does it even make you less visible to IRNV compared to other scopes? I think this is important to consider. I would still say IRNV is at least comparable in target acquisition to other scopes in that situation. The face still lights ups, this defeats "noise" in the scene which normally completely obscures line of sight. Human eyes will also still react to that spot quicker. The rest of the body, while not glowing, is still easily discernible from the background, no less than if being viewed normally.

So why is this important? Spec ops would only really be a counter if it significantly impaired users of IRNV scopes versus other scopes, and I do not feel it does. It only makes IRNV less useful compared to itself, meaning you are still free to use IRNV without considering the drawbacks of running into someone with Spec Ops camo.

I never use IRNV and I have no problem placing in the top 3 almost every game. Either way it's getting nerfed next week so who cares?

anyone having issues with BF3 dropping back to the desktop to a windowed form or shutting down altogether? bf3 drops to "play windowed" at least once per session now. Also with 11.11 cap2 it now crashes completely from time to time. I love the graphics in this game and the multiplayer but good lord the bugs and lack of eyefinity support is hugely frustrating.

A nerf that the IRNV could use is a range nerf. I should not be able to see heat from 200m away. Keep it a Close quarters scope.

More like 50-75m. 200m is not exactly "close range"

And it's ridiculous how many people I see using the M249 + IRNV + Foregrip combo these days. Clearly accuracy on the M249 needs to be decreased.

I stopped using the IRNV soon after I got it and my infantry score has definitely suffered for it. However, I like not feeling like a huge dickbag, and I don't care about stats much anyway.

The Spec Ops camo is a nice idea but...Rank 42 to unlock?! Give me a break. Maybe like Rank 10 and it would be fine.

I just fall on a guy who have a hack who dissable me to shoot at him. he was on front of me shooting at other guy and my m249 was not able to shoot a single bullet for 3 secondes the time he kill me, I have not shoot a single bullet after I respam so it was full loaded, the guy finish 105-0

EA do nothing at all, it's a real joke ( 1600 ban only , when you have on average 3 to 5 hacker per server )

the guy is name OhBoyUSuck he was level 1 when he start and he snipes peoples with no scope

I dont think they need to nerf M249 accuracy, they need to nerf fore grips. The only way you should be close to accurate with a LMG or sniper rifle is while prone.

They should completely remove foregrips from all the LMGs if you ask me. Bipod or nothing.

If they do that, then i hope they atleast give the ability to turn it off and use as a regular holo sight.

I think it should be nerfed to be more sensitive to sources of light. It is an IR scope designed for Night Vision...hence the NV in the title. Its not strictly a thermal scope. If it worked the way it does now for the night maps and indoors it would be fine, but the second anyone is indoors looking out or have an explosion nearby they should be blinded. Its sensitivity at range or when someone is hiding in a bush should be toned down also.

Those are light magnifiers or starlight scopes, totally different principle. These new nightvisions are also digital so they can automatically re-adjust brightness on the fly before projecting the image on the viewfinders so it's really not possible to get blinded unless you were still using the older manual ones.

I've been googling on the effect of flashlights and daylight have on NV cameras, and it seems blinding someone with a flashlight is practically a myth and only done in the movies. There's also the possibility of the camera getting ruined if you point a spotlight at them (The heavier and more sensitive stationary ones), but still no cases of users getting blinded.

Some of the guys in the mythbusters forum have been playing around with theirs, and their civilian grade equipment handles daylight and flashlights a lot better than the military grade ones they show in the movies it seems.

I'm sure this is completely unimpressive to 90% of you, but I'm totally pumped that I shot my first jet down today. I've never been a good Battlefield pilot ever and I didn't even really attempt to fly in BF3 until last week and the fact that I didn't even have flares unlocked made it all but impossible to score any points besides the occasional spot assist.

Once I shot down a jet I got flares and was then able to stay airborne enough to get lots of runs in on ground units and unlocked heat seekers. I still have yet to take anything down with the missles though. They seem very easy to avoid.

So is there anyone here that is still unable to connect to battlelog? It's been like this the entire weekend for me, I can only assume it's still failing for many other people. What the fuck is going on exactly?

I was on for a bit yesterday and also for about 2 hours tonight...no problems at all.....make sure its not something on your system blocking it

I have not had an issue with battlelog all weekend.

Well after having a snoop around the EA BF3 forums (followed by a thorough sterilization) There are apparently hundreds of thousands if not millions of people all over the U.S. ,Europe and Australia that are unable to connect, most of them, from the posts I read, state that their problems started early Saturday morning, same as me. And no there's nothing blocking it.

*Sigh* Whatever. Skyrim it is.

Still broken for me on 2 different PCs and my Mac on my home network.

Downforeveryoneorjustme says it is up, so it must be a network configuration thing.

Tears that you feed off of? Making a couple of sentences written like a six year old sure is threatening! Ya, I'm so bad. Usually noobs like you have the worst stats and are horrible players. If you post your profile name, I am in a mood for a good laugh.

On another note, been disconnected from about 20 servers today. This is getting ridiculous. I've even manually updated PB. Seems more and more people are getting affected by this on the official forums. I think the problem is getting worse over time.

Because stats mean anything in this game? Have u never played op metro 64 man conquest with 1000 tickets? A monkey could get 500spm round after round and with revived deaths not counting as a death you easily get 3-4:1kd ratio even on the losing team if you have even the slightest clue how to play. The only "stat" that has ever counted in bf3 is win loss ratio, where u have a pathetic .87. Not surprised at all with your stats tho, its always the worst players who feel they need to spend every waking moment farming points in a game so they can show off their epeen to make up for the fact that they are really terrible at the game.

I don't care about my k/d ratio. I don't care about my score per minute. I don't care about my epeen. I don't go on the forums and cry everytime someone kills me.

I win rounds. You should try it some time.

My experiance with what was available to ground units in the Corps back between 03-07 is kind of a mix of what you are saying. We had access to two models, which the model numbers evade my shit memory atm, but there was a binocular (none stereo...covered both eyes with a single image processor) and a monocle (single eye). The bino version was horrible, its effective range was (if memory serves) about 50ft and if you knocked it, it would lose focus. On top of that, because it had an adjustable focus, it could only focus on a certain range. So if you had it set to focus at max distance, anything up close would be horribly out of focus and vice versa. The monocle version was much better, I believe it still had an adjustable focus but its range of clarity was much better and was able to display a much crisper image, on top of that we would mount the monocle to our M16s/249s behind our day sights (such as the ACOG) to get a nightvision scope...surprised we havent been givin an option to do something like that in games yet...

Hehe, check my profile (USMCGrunt0307)...ive got jet service star 5 atm..almost 6 :D . I've enjoyed playing in jets (obviously) and once you learn the ins and outs youll be rocking the shit outta others. Couple things ive found that help:

Fly near the ceiling, most people for some reason dont look up.

Don't waste your weapon slot with missiles, I find the gun is way more effective. Missiles take too long to lock and can give you away if the other guy isnt using air radar/paying attention to it. I believe its better to get in position behind them without them knowing and a well place burst from the gun will disable the aircraft.

If you have a missile fired at you and you know where its coming from try and guess about where its at, fly away and when it gets close pull a low speed turn (around 310-330knots) back into the direction it coming from. If you do it right, youll evade the missile everytime.

Full throttle is for getting away or gaining altitude. If your in a dogfight, you'll find that the best turn radius to be around 320 knots, which is throttle all the way down and just pulsing the afterburner.

If youve got the altitude/speed and you end up in a chase-you-tail dogfight, you can usually get back on their tail by pulling up or down and cutting the circle in half, just make sure you have enough altitude or speed otherwise it makes you a sitting duck/faceplant into the ground.

Your defense system is situation based really. Sometimes the extinguisher is a godsend and other times flares work better. For me, I use the extinguisher unless everyone and their mom is firing stingers at me, then I will switch to flares. Also, if I find myself on a non-HC server, the extinguisher is about useless as you can pop flares and hightail it to the ceiling while the flares recharge.

Are there details about this patch that is supposedly coming next week?

Nice work.

I play on some low playercount flying servers sometimes...Good to get your skills up in a less-than-hectic environment. Also lets you unlock the basics like Flares and AA Missiles.

rofl good find. This was the same guy who was complaining about m320 being OP and having "2.5x the radius of the rpg". GTFO Vega

Ya , sorry for the quote of you , I made a mistake , I was sure I was quoting Vega, I edit my last post.

Not even worth acknowledging this hooting thalidomide, he's just trying to drum up some controversy because he doesn't realise that the chantard wannabe-PG mentality is exhausted and ineffective.

I really like the game, but the problems can actually make it a lot less fun sometimes. I'm sick of people hiding INSIDE rocks, I'm sick of horrible bullet reg, and I'm sick of horrible balance.

Javelins and Stingers are a joke. So are SMAW's. Bolt action sniper rifles are underpowered (especially in HC). The IR scope is ridiculous as we all know. The A91 is overpowered. All shotguns with slugs are actually more powerful at distance than bolt action sniper rifles. I'm sick of driving my tank down a hill and spontaneously exploding and getting a "computerpro3 suicided" or "bad luck" message.

They really need to patch this. It has so much potential but it's just really frustrating to play sometimes. I just hit a jeep point blank range with a RPG and it didn't blow up. The gunner looked at me for a few seconds while I was pulling out my gun and then killed me. This was from about 15 feet away the RPG didn't even disable the jeep.

chantard? hooting thalidomide? go outside and get some sun man you're losing it.

Yeah the bolt action sniper rifles seem ridiculous...in the time it takes me to reload my SV98 for the 2nd shot, I would have already killled you with a M16. I finally maxed all the other classes, as recon I'm using the UMP and the shotgun with frag rounds.

I will agree Javs are a joke...theyre slow to fire and do comparable damage to RPG/SMAW and can only lock onto a vehicle that has a player in it, making them useless really. Stingers on the other hand, being on the receiving end most of the time seem pretty effective. Jeeps definately need to explode and kill all players in the jeep as soon as its hit by any kind of explosive ordnance...this disabled vehicle shit is a joke on a vehicle that is completely open/lightly armored and takes an explosive load designed to take a tank out.

You don't care about your K/D ratio nor your score per minute because they are awful and you are horrible at the game. Your stats suck so you dismiss them to make you feel better. You know all of the best BF3 players have horrible stats like yours! :) All I play is 64-player servers. If you think 1 single great player, let alone some noob like you is going to have any large affect on the win/loss of the game, you are delusional. 20-noobs on your team your going to lose no matter what you do. Here's a pro-tip for you scrubs; if you have a very high skill level like mine, the server puts you on the losing team every single time. You wouldn't know anything about that though would you, being of such low skill.

ya stats means everything, you are a RPG noobs my friend, ( or should I say SHAW noobs ) 41 of your 56 kills was with SHAW , in METRO ???????

Ugh. The TV missile is such a disappointment compared to its BF2 counterpart. The guided missile is a better option IMO.

Wow, a few games of metro is suppose to prove I spend 100% of my time there? Is everyone in this these posts a tool or just jealous? Less than 20% of my total games are in Metro.

I must have gotten almost 2200 kills with vehicles playing Metro huh. I must be driving that killer train.

Oh look, I can post battle logs too!

You don't care eh? So why do you keep posting about it? I'd love to see your two noob's profiles, I am in the mood for a good laugh. I'd run over you in game like you weren't even there.

LMFAO dude please don't talk. 41 noobtube kills on a 64 player Metro server? I don't think anyone here will respect your words anymore or cares what u have to say.

This is what is inexcusable about the new game interface: the site is down and you cannot play MP or SP.

Bravo EA.

The guided missile only works if someone uses a SOFLAM though right? Thats not always guaranteed....

No it doesn't need soflam. I use it very well with beam scanner on my jet.

I just played past 3 hours, site isn't down for everyone.

Do you admin a server? Have you admin'd a BC2 or BF3 server recently? If you had you would know that the server doesn't put you on the losing team just to even out the skill levels. It puts you on the losing team because the losers are rage quitting and the teams are unbalanced. You have to use 3rd party software like ProCon and special plugins to have the server behave like you think it does, and I can guarantee there are few servers doing this right now.
