Crysis 2 leaked for PC

Apparently some people try to justify everything they do. Retarded IMO. Seriously the worst analogy in the world.

There's a lot of that in this thread.

In just a handful of pages I've seen piracy can be good, it's an act of good will, it can be helpful, and it's good quality control for the PC.

An incredible bunch of crap.

Oh come on! That's not what we're talking about here!

That's not the same as stealing a damned videogame and you know it!

No, you made a general statement and I disagree with it. The main reason I pointed this out is that you use this more general statement to make specific case which I also disagree with, the idea in general needs shooting down and then the rest falls into place.

I just have to see this: What are those specific circumstances?

I believe that if you pirate a game in order to try it and you learn something about the game that would stop you from buying it (had piracy not been an option) then it's perfectly reasonable not to buy the game. It's a specific case of a victimless crime.

Sorry but it sure seems like it at times.

No need to be sorry, I don't really care. I know what games I own, I know what games I've not paid for I sleep well at night knowing that I contribute a lot of money (way more than average) to developers, and that it goes to the developers who deserve it the most.

But what about games you don't deem as good?

What does that matter? If a game isn't good, I don't buy it, end of story.

Give me some specific examples of good things here.

Consider someone posting on the prior page

Overall, this game looks horrible to be honest. I cancel my pre-order after watching hours of youtube walk through. This is a NO GO for me if this is similar to final build, since its a build from early Jan this year, which looks pretty crappy.

You don't think its good that someone who preorded a game based on advertising and hype had their world view corrected to the point where they cancelled their preorder and saved themselves some money?

I also notice that you mention piracy is theft over and over which you need to be careful with, here this might help you :)

Stealing medicine for a dying baby vs. stealing a game for what? NOBODY needs a game alright?

No, he didn't limit "stealing" specifically to games/software, he made a blanket statement that is clearly wrong.

Reading comprehension FTL.

But to say that nothing good can come of pirating a game, that's just wrong
.

It was pretty specific to what you were saying. Games/Medicine. I didn't weed through this entire chat because of so much retarded bs.

Also, someone who pre-orders off of hype is not too smart now are they? Wait and see if you aren't sure how good the game is. If you buy it and get burnt, lesson learned.

That is truly the single worst analogy I've ever seen on the internet as meant to counter point piracy haters

Wait.. people are defending stealing? I'm living in the wrong era, someone give me a time machine I want to leave. I am embarrassed to even post on the same forums. I hope mods are combing this thread and handing out perma bans to people alluded to have played the game. Oh well, one step closer to cloud gaming where the consumer doesn't even have access to the game.

Excuse me while I go invest in OnLive and retire young.

Aside from Shitty Graphic on hardcore..

There are couple thing I really hate about the game..

1. Removed lean right and left.
2. Removed laying on the ground.

As has been said before the hardcore settings only set one option to very high, the rest stay on medium, probably something theyve done for dx9 mode to make it look better for dx11 mode.

Prone is out of the game but leaning left and right is still in. You also have the option to look over cover and fire over it.

You also mentioned the story, from what ive been reading the story sounds pretty interesting. Not going to go into any more detail though for spoilers sake.

Destruction has nothing to do with DX level

Who said it did?

Same here...

Piracy is stealing.
I know it's stealing because I can imagine creating something I want to sell to people only to find they have accessed it, copied it and are using it without paying.

I know I would feel like those people had stolen from me.

yeah right OnLive is going to take off, don't hold your breath on that one :D

Coming from someone who knows someone who knows me who knows someone who downloaded the Doom 3 leak, I think it's better to leave Crysis 2 to the actual retail experience. Resist temptation; eat some nachos.

The people defending.. hilarious!

I'll just sit back with some popcorn now. This thread is spiraling down fast.

Yeah, someone says that stealing is only ever bad, then you give examples of where they are wrong.

Then someone accuses you of defending stealing...ugh :p

Can we get back to talking about Crysis 2 please? And not the "philosophical" discussion on the legitimacy of piracy/justification of stealing?

So I've been reading some underground forums on what exactly is going on with this thing. With the wealth of modding knowledge built up from Crysis and all the unprotected content and tools on this iso, they've gotten a lot of damn things going on with this.

On the first reports, the game was broken, missing features, couldn't access other graphics levels, couldn't remap controls, etc. but it seems most of those have all been worked out now and people are playing on highest settings in dx11 with their own controls and now there are even pirate multiplayer Crysis 2 servers up :(

I don't know if this is bad news for Crytek or not. Certainly, the majority of people who do those sorts of things would probably have pirated the game in the first place but I'm guessing there are also a lot of other gamers, who brought in by the hype and news of this leak who have now pirated the game but might have bought it on release because they couldn't wait to play it. Because so many sites are talking about the leak, news and information on it is much more widespread and disseminated to the average user whereas normally most forums and sites wouldn't tolerate talk about pirated releases. It makes access and modification of the leak to make it playable much more prevalent.

I'm SOOO in be4 the lock and public flogging of certain somebodies. Teeheeeeee.

I saw this for the first time here in another thread and it cracked me up.

Most downloaded games of 2010 for PC, Wii and 360.

Call of Duty: Black Ops (PC) - 4,270,000
Call of Duty: Black Ops (360) - 930,000

Q-BZ

Intersting point, and I can see what you are getting at.... However, let me play devil's advocate here. We need to put those numbers in perspective.

While I do not that the exact numbers, I can make a fairly educated guess of the following:

As a percentage of installed user base, the PC piracy rate is far lower than the console piracy rate. The PC version of Call of duty was pirated 4.5 times more than the 360 version. I am willing to bet, that there are far more than 4.5 PCs capable of running the game sold than 360s. So when you look at install base, the piracy numbers flip around.

The reason I bring this up... install base is a HUGE factor in where companies publish. With all the bitching, you still see a ton of PC games being released simply because the market is so huge. We don't need to debate how well a lower end pc would run it, but many many many people game on boxes which arent top end.

It's nice to throw out numbers, but please look at the whole picture when you do. There are about 41 million 360 consoles out there world wide. With some fuzzy napkin math there are about 250 million or so PCs that can run Black Ops.

Again, how does this matter when it comes to sales?

Even with 250 million capable PCs, they only sold 1 or 2 million copies. With 40 million consoles (it's actually 50 now I believe, Microsoft announced it a few weeks ago), there are still 10 million sales. If PC piracy is higher due to a higher potential install base, then that same install base should contribute to higher sales too don't you think?

Damn, just read that there's no interior view for vehicles, it's just 3rd person view apparently, like most console games. That kind of thing totally breaks immersion.

Quite possibly some of the most retarded logic I've ever heard. I'm not going to describe in detail why I think so, I'm sure it's obvious whether you agree or disagree with me. If you take that idea to it's limit, it clearly doesn't work in a capitalist economy. Also, I'm pretty sure quite a few people would agree that theft is defined as the act of stealing (dictionary.com) and ideas/information/data can be stolen.

Anyways, I'll wait for reviews/gameplay vids/forum feedback when the game comes out. Sure, you're an idiot if you buy purely on hype generated by the company, but I'd say the above sources give enough of an idea about the game, regardless of whether you do or don't end up liking it.

This will all probably result in Crysis 3 being console-exclusive, going by Crytek's, well, crybaby approach to piracy.

It is has nothing to do with logic and everything to do with how the LAW defines theft. By definition at law copying is not theft because there is no deprivation of physical goods. Your dictionary definition has no application in these types of circumstances.

Regardless of how morally repugnant you think it is, pirating does not constitute theft but rather gives rise to copyright infringement. It really is just that simple. Copying does not deprive the original owner of their possessions, it merely infringes their intellectual property.

I have been reading lots of disturbing things about how much has been compromised to accommodate consoles, including removal of prone, removal of lean, significantly less destructible environments and physics, very linear level design, simplified game mechanics and suit abilities etc.

It sounds like everything I really enjoyed about crysis and warhead (specifically the large open environments) which made it unique has been gutted to create a hybrid CoD/Halo abomination.

http://torrentfreak.com/crysis-2-leak-fails-to-result-in-massive-download-fest-110213/

Next month the long-awaited Crysis 2 is due for release but perhaps inevitably it’s already been leaked onto the Internet. Although it’s a PC beta version which requires some coaxing to perform, publisher EA has already decried this unofficial release and some gaming blogs have gone into overdrive condemning ‘evil pirates’. But hey, let’s all cool down for a second. Just because people can pirate, doesn’t mean they always do.

Crysis2Type ‘Crysis 2′ into Google and the first result you get is the official site. The second result is a post from publisher EA’s blog titled ‘Crysis 2 Leaked’

“Crytek has been alerted that an early incomplete, unfinished build of Crysis 2 has appeared on Torrent sites. Crytek and EA are deeply disappointed by the news,” the post begins.

Indeed, a beta of the PC version of the game has been doing the rounds on torrent sites since Friday and although clearly unfinished and requiring varying levels of hoop-jumping to keep it running, it’s getting a pretty good reception from those who have downloaded and played it.

The fact that it has leaked, however, has caused gaming blogs to go into overdriven condemnation of the anticipated rampant piracy of this much awaited game. In particular, Destructoid editor Jim Sterling has gone postal with a passionate four-letter-word-littered tirade aimed squarely at pirates.

While some of Jim’s points are debatable, he makes some good points and is clearly absolutely passionate about games. As a former 8bit coder and gamer of more than three decades myself I can respect that. People love games. They appreciate the work that goes into them.

While it’s rare to hear people complain about movies or music leaking onto the Internet in file-sharing circles (in fact such situations are largely relished), games are a bit different. This leak of Crysis 2 appears to show that there’s something, even in piracy circles – I’m not sure what – that elevates the connection people have with games and their creators over the connection people have with those behind movies for example.

As both EA and Crytek plead with people to wait for the March 22 release date for Crysis 2 they appear to be supported, not just by those who never pirate, but also those who do.

Despite the beta being widely available, TorrentFreak stats show (completed) downloads of just 10,000 on public BitTorrent trackers. And that’s not because this title isn’t popular with gamers. Indeed, given the current mood, it’s not unthinkable that these low download numbers may well be a result of it being quite the opposite.

While some people are clearly happy to get an advance copy, it’s eye opening to see people on torrent sites encouraging others NOT to download it. Sure, there is the usual crowd throwing a middle finger up to the publishers while delighting in their juicy booty, but so many others are pleading with people to support Crytek by putting their hands in their pockets next month instead.

That said, there are others who aren’t heeding the advice but are treating this download as a demo to be deleted in due course, having grown tired of waiting for an official one to be released. Perhaps there’s a lesson to be learned there.

High profile game leaks don’t have to result in the doomsday scenario feared by their creators – unless they’re terrible games of course. Rewind back to October 2003 and a beta of Half-Life 2 was also leaking onto the Internet, a full 6 months before its release date, putting this 49 day advance copy of Crysis 2 in the shade. HL2 went on to do staggeringly well, selling 12 million copies to date.

Personally, as upcoming games in this genre go, I had my eyes mainly on Epic’s Bulletstorm but having seen the various videos on YouTube recorded by people playing this leaked beta, all of a sudden March can’t come soon enough. Crysis 2 looks absolutely gorgeous and while I don’t feel much warmth towards EA, I’m happy to support Crytek.

But why, when the game is sitting right there for free?

Do gamers really have more empathy with studios than their movie-going peers? Why are great games so special? What’s your take on this leak and how it should be handled? Are these download stats low because people are doing ‘the right thing’ or is fiddling about with betas just too much hassle? We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.

I really thought Crysis 2 was going to be a horrible port. I was wrong.

A friend let me play it and wow is all I have to say. Crysis 2 will finally dethrone Crysis as the best looking game ever made for PC, period. The fact the beta only renders in medium quality and looks better than most games out there just goes to show Crytek can work miracles and does what few other companies still have the balls left to do, create a PC game that ages VERY well and maxes out all current hardware. I fully expect Crysis 2 to bring my 480 SLI and 4Ghz i7 to it's knees and look mind blowing. The only game this year that will get close to this is Battlefield 3, IMO.

As for the game, it plays very well. Challenging, fun, creative, and the level designs are amazing. The scale of NYC is just incredible.

As for the leak...I have two possible theories. One, is a PC guy who's pissed at Crytek and decided to throw us the biggest bone ever, or the leak was intentional. The only thing that would suggest to me it wasn't intentional is the multilayer master key, but the fact they ANNOUNCED the leak was out there on the game's homepage and Twitter just seems wrong. Why tell people it's out there? All this leak did was make more people want to BUY the game, myself included.

+1

Except for one thing - Crysis 2, unlike Crysis, may NOT bring the i7/GTX 480 combo to its knees. Not even if you play at desktop resolutions and crank every detail to the ceiling.

All those folks criticizing Crysis 2 for supposedly being *dumbed down* for consoles have apparently forgot the biggest single criticism of Crysis, Crysis Warhead, and even (to an extent) FarCry 2 (Crytek's three previous releases) - all were whacked for being overly taxing of PC hardware. Crytek apparently listened to that criticism: Crysis 2 is not as taxing; even more amazing, it looks much better. Nanosuit 2 is not as overly complicated as the original Nanosuit (and it isn't supposed to be). Whereas the original Nanosuit was more *strategic*, NS 2 is tactical (if anything, NS2 is more an outgrowth of Land Warrior, which makes all sorts of sense). NS2 is not something designed for officers any more than Land Warrior is - it's designed to be utilized by NCOs. (Did we forget already that the protagonist/hero in Crysis Warhead was a mere sergeant?) You largely *just wear* NS2 - utilizing the capabilities is supposed to be largely instinctual. (That applies to Land Warrior as well.) However, despite the supposedly *decreased* capability (compared to the original) you can do a lot more with NS 2 because the complexity doesn't get in the way of actually USING the suit. There are things you can do in Crysis 2 that you can't do in Warhead (even up to date with all patches) or Crysis, for that matter (again, updated), and that is entirely due to NS 2. For that reason, *multiplayer* Crysis 2 is going to be a hoot. (I'm actually hoping that there will be a cooperative MP option with multiple players, or even multiple teams, tackling a single humongous objective (say something like the endgame boss from the original Crysis) and serving it with the Eviction Notice.)

The people who whinged about it being unoptimised were morons, to be blunt. If the game wasn't optimised, computers like the one in my signature wouldn't be able to run the game at all, let alone at half-decent settings, let alone have it look pretty fecking good.

People who actually moan about technological advancement in PC gaming should not be listened to.

+1, and the reason why Crysis 2 is not taxing is because PC hardware has evolved over the past 4 years since Crysis and Warhead's release.

So in other words we should praise Crytek for allowing hardware to catch up to their engine? I am yet to see anything which demonstrates a marked visual improvement over Crysis 2, and in fact many people who have played the beta are saying that graphics are noticeably worse. I will reserve judgment until I play the official demo though.

I've watched the youtube videos of people playing through. While Crysis was never a huge open environment, at least the jungles felt big and that you could end up walking through them and attacking via various different routes.

With this game set in the city, all the fake walls and barriers and barricades just feel like Half-Life 2's Combine big blue walls being the fake walls of the game. It looks and feels terrible, because it reinforces the notion that you are stuck in a corridor playing a game on rails. At least with the jungle, there was an artificial openess and the boundaries were out of reach or realistic (like a giant mountain too steep to climb). In this one it looks like you just bump into fake wall after fake wall.

That's one disappointment. Maybe it will feel better when I play it myself in a month but right now it looks like a corridor shooter and claustrophobic and fake.

Exactly.

I thought a simple/fun video would put that across :)

and out of how many of those downloads for black ops do you think were ppl downloading the iso after buying a cd key?

Assuming it sells well on consoles....it may well flop.

Their next game is definitely a console (and possibly 360) exclusive. They've code named it Project Kingdom I believe. Whether or not another Crysis gets made, I think there is certainly a possibility that they will go console exclusive after this.

Seriously where do you pull these figures from?! Has Activision published their sales for digital and physical PC versions?

Not to my knowledge. The numbers we're dealing with are all conjectures and assumptions. Like the guy who assumed there are 250 million capable PCs. Even Torrentfreak has no reliable way of gauging piracy figures because they simply can't know about Usenet downloads or Rapidshare downloads or some private bittorrent trackers and what not. However, with a sample size of 5 million pirates, I think it's safe to say that they are at least getting the general trends right, even if their numbers aren't. And that shows 4:1 piracy for the PC over the 360. As for sales, we all know that the console versions of Call of Duty sell over 10 million copies. Black Ops has outperformed every previous game in the series in the sales metrics, so it should hit 10 million too. For the PC version, I assumed what I thought is a reasonable number, and that assumption itself has a 100% margin of error. If you think it should be lower or higher, feel free to correct me.

The gist of what I'm saying does not change though. For every 360 pirate, there are 5 or 8 or 10 or 15 customers who still buy the game. For every PC customer, there is at least 1 if not 2 or 4 or even more pirates. Unless you think that PC sales of the game actually come close to matching the console sales? (They don't.) As a developer, which of those markets would you think was a better choice for your investment of resources? Would you say that the impact of 360 piracy is the same as the impact of PC piracy when faced with trends like this? Are you going to think, "hey, 4 million pirates isn't so bad when the total install base was 250 million as compared to the 360 where you have 1 million pirates in a total install base of 50"?

Yes - we should. Because it means they actually DO care what we (as prospective customers) think.

If they continued ramping up the burden on PC hardware (despite the heat they took over Crysis and Crysis Warhead) that would say they didn't care.

If you can play at a higher resolution/higher LOD (or both) on the same hardware, compared to Crysis, that is an improvement, no matter how you slice it.

Are they truly comparing apples to apples, though? Are they comparing DX9 graphics (which the leak is limited to) to Crysis (or Warhead) at the same LOD level/resolution level? Further, the LOD of the leak is known to be gimped. (I referred to it, elsewhere, as Crysis 2 on jackstands.)

I'm waiting for the official demo for another reason - it will show exactly how much polishing they have done compared to this early (and known gimped) code-stage. That there will be improvement is certain - the sixty-four euro question is how much improvement.

Rofl, that is some warped logic right there.

I am sure most PC users would argue the opposite.
