So, who's thinking about Borderlands?

I'm about 30 now and yet to see an orange anything, but I'm looking forward to finally getting into Old Haven this morning for the first time. All soloing.

I propose you to host an Online Game and then continue playing solo. Some times people will be joining your game and this is so much funnier. Just make sure to kick people with higher level (because they ruine the game for you) and kick people with microphon on because then it will distort your in game audio to the unacceptable level.

I do this way, I play online solo mostly but when occasionnaly people join my game it so much fun although it won't help you to find orange guns:)

I found Borderlands Online Public game weirdness. I noticed 2 situations:
1. you play hours and noone joins
2. If someone joins then 3 gamers at once

So, it is very very seldom that players are joining one by one with some interval. It either a lot of people joins at once or you noone for a while.

What could be the reason? I can speculate that my game is not always visible in online games browsers. But when it become visible then several people at once see it and join.

But what is the reason of such behaviour? I also noticed that when I refresh games browser I see different games in the list whenever I refresh it.

If you're hosting and no one is joining, it's most likely because you dont have your port forwarding setup correctly/at all.

Actually, I have it correctly set up. People can join. But as I mentionied they join several at once. I seldom see joining one at once.

I disagree. ITill level 21 I used Legendary shotgun I got from one boss fight. It was extremelly owerpowered but every 2 shells I need to reload. Recently I found light orange shotgun. It is a bit less powerfull, a bit slower but has 7 shells. It absolutelly rocks against all enemies.

Well, that's all well and good, but I don't see what there is to disagree with, since you haven't seen the guns that have dropped specifically for me. ;)

I've had all kinds of purple weapons drop. Just last night I had a new purple shotgun pop up in a store that was double the damage of any previous shotgun I've ever seen. Like the gun you had, it only had 2 shells, so every 3 shots (talented) I have to reload. But it reloads very very quickly.

Gotcha, I misunderstood - thought you meant when you join other games, people flood in.

I imagine that most people browse the server list looking for one with more than one person, just assuming that if no one is in there, the ports are probably closed. But who knows, the server list is a piece of crap.

Ok....

Finally completed those god forsaken scavenge missions thanks to youtube. Funny thing is, I finally found the 4th piece on all of them, but then another bug hit... only 3 of the 4 items were checked off. Weird.:confused:
It still let me turn them in to the bounty board as complete.

=============================

I have finally beaten the the vagina faced monster that was in the vault as a level 37 soldier with just under $2 million. Every guy leading up to him was harder to beat than he was.

I CANNOT BELIEVE I WENT THROUGH THE ENTIRE GAME AND NEVER FOUND AN ORANGE LEVEL GUN!!!:mad::mad::mad:
How dissappointing. :(

Despite everything, it was still the best SP game I have played in a long time.:cool:

Time to try out online play...

You're not really missing out on much. The best guns I've had were all purple. In fact, at level 44, I'm still using a req level 17 purple. Granted, it was pretty redonkulous when I got it at level 18, and is still my best gun at 44(though I should soon be seeing an improved version of the same gun).

My Swift Masher revolver fires (iirc) 124x7 damage, 1.5 fire rate, 2 rounds, 77% accuracy, fast reload, 2.8 zoom, It just hit unbelievably hard at level 18, so hard that it still has the best balance of burst damage and DPS among my guns at 44, managed to crit above 10k when all my gunslinger abilities triggered simultaneously!. It's still just a purple though. Closest thing I've found was a level 42 104x7 damage version but with a 6 round chamber and no zoom. (Seems like I've already used up all my good fortune in getting a good one early)

I think the only thing that makes an item "orange" is if it has a red text component as a random drop(aside from the bugged "pearl" weapons which seem to simply be miscolored oranges). But there's plenty of red text guns found through quests and bossdrops.

Orange quality items aren't always all that special. I had an orange Combat Rifle equipped for a while, and I've had two versions(well, still have one) of the GGN Volcano Sniper Rifle. I've seen others as well, but none of them were worth using. Hopefully that should make you feel a bit better about not finding any...they're not always that special.

If you're interested, there's a way to play single-player(essentially) with increased difficulty(up to 6-players worth of difficulty).

Ok, after ranting about the game being too easy, i finally found a simple solution that works!

Warning: you need a decent computer to pull this off, i can do really fine on my q6600 dual core and ATI 4870x2, 2 gigs ram
Alternatively, you can use a laptop with the same game setting as the main comp.

Follow these easy steps

1: Select difficulty

Open ..\documents\my games\borderlands\willowgame\config\willowgame.ini

and edit the line
GameDifficulty=+1.0
to whatever player simulation you want, minus 1.
If you want to play as if there were 2 players, simply leave it to 1. If you want to play as 4 player, set it to three (like i did). I think it works up to +6 or +5, for a simulation of up to 6 or 7 players, but i have not tested it.

Open the file ..\borderlands\engine\config\basegame.ini

and again modify the difficulty line the same as before.
Note: I change both values because i do not know if the game looks at the documents' or game folder's file. I think it's the documents' one, but im not sure.

2: Backup

Make a backup of the save files before you attempt to play the game like im going to explain. Create another level 1 character if you only have 1 character, then play the tutorial until you can save. This is to skip the intro movie on the new players.
Saves are in ..\documents\my games\borderlands\SaveData\

3: Play

Start the game as usual, select LAN game, select your main character and open a room.
Alt-tab out of the game, restart the game a second time. Select LAN, join your session#1 game with another character, preferably a level 1, then click ready. If you join with the same character twice, there are HIGH CHANCES the savegame will become corrupt
Alt-tab back to session#1, click Start game. Once you've loaded (this can take a while depending on cpu/available ram), you can alt tab to session #2 and kill the client with alt-f4.

Et voila, the game is now saved to whatever difficulty you set, until you close the game.
It takes a minute or two to setup, each time you start the game. Unpractical if you leave the game often or like to farm boxes.

So I put in the binds to change FoV, and now when I load the game none of the controls work aside from the change FoV ones. Great. Was excited I'd finally be able to play with acceptable FoV, and nothing works.

I think you might have placed them in the wrong section..

Double check your ini files with what they said to edit.

Triple checked. Saw a few people having the same issue but there was never any answer/follow up.

It's better to add the FOV command to your move forward key bind as the game resets the FOV at certain times. So for example if W is your move forward key and you want your FOV to be 90, under the [WillowGame.WillowPlayerInput] section in WillowInput.ini, add
| FOV 90
to your W bind so it looks like

Code:
Bindings=(Name="W",Command="MoveForward | Axis aGas Speed=+1.0 | FOV 90",Control=False,Shift=False,Alt=False,LeftTrigger=False,RightTrigger=False,bIgnoreCtrl=False,bIgnoreShift=False,bIgnoreAlt=False)

Yea... I have it set like that but to 100 or 105...

Whenever you enter/exit vehicles it resets...

Make sure you added the bind directly beneath:

Bindings=(Name="F8",Command="shot")

That should be on line 97 in a default WillowInput.ini. I had the same problem as you because the advice I followed suggested placing the bind towards the bottom of the file, which is wrong.

The fov bindings need to be placed at the end of the section not at the beginning

Yeah, I'm using a Level 17 Volcano Sniper. Purple with chance of elemental damage. Best Mordecai weapon I've found and better than the oranges I've come across!

Has anyone tried the difficulty tweak I posted? Playing with it set at +5.0 is something else!

I seen this option earlier, does it also increase the quality of drops like it does in a 4 person game?

As far as I know, and have been able to tell, yeah. The number that follows the GameDifficulty setting is equal to the number of players simulated minus 1.

I have been looking at playing around with these settings too. The one that I am most interested in is

MaxPlayers=4

By changing this does it mean you can invite more than 4 players to join your game? Given that you would need the bandwidth and a computer the could support the extra load. This is something I would be interested in testing out.

not sure, I ste this to 6 but the lobby still only showed 6 people. Didnt get to try acctually inviting 6 people though lol

"The game is not balanced for that many players" :)
Just kidding, obviously it would cause some problems - but it would be cool!

I've been playing this game on my PS3, but no one really talks about it that much in the console area. Anyways, my friend and I play co-op splitscreen and we found the best way to level him up quickly is to bind at the trash coast and repeatedly kill the "awesome rakk hive." each time we kill it he gains levels and weapon proficiency, and the rakk hive seems to drop elemental aritifacts and other loot quite often.

the spider ants also give good exp on the way to the rakk hive. just an observation. with my soldier at level 50, i can log in a level 1 on the second character split screen and essentially power level them like mad. I bet I could get a char from 1-50 in a matter of a few hours this way.

Look me up on the PS3 version, my ID is postmac. I can buy you some gear and powerlevel you and help with quests if you want.

lol that's no fun, you should play the story first, if you power level ,or even do all the sidequests first, the enemies end up being too easy.

has anyone tried a little cross platform action? It sucks that they say its not supported, I dont see why it matters in a game like this. I can see the advantage problem in most FPS but borderlands isnt like that.

Wonder if it would work on lan or a private game, the multiplayer menus are identical aren't they?

Brilliant game. I am currently on the final mission.

Does the game differ much in the second play through? Do you get lots of new high level guns? >:-D

Game is the same on PT2 but harder enemies, on pt2 I'm up to new haven so far. Better guns but only because you're a higher level.

For all you console players, the DLC for ps3/360 comes out November 24th.

No announcement yet regarding PC release of the DLC (other than that there is a confirmed PC release for the DLC).

Damnit, now I will have to buy that DLC, and I never buy DLC. This game is too addicting.

And yeah, on play 2, you get much better loot, but it is mostly because you are higher level. I am having a lot of fun on play 2, even though I just finished it. The experience is just crazy, I was level 50 in no time once I get there.

Awesome! That's what I was hoping.

So, does weapon level max out at 50 like character level?

Does anyone know if you can do a third play through?

Is there any challenge at 50? I dont plan to clock too many hours at end game, but maybe it will surprise me. I figured I would start a new character once I hit 50. Is there a PT3... etc. or are you stuck with no quests to do at 50?

edit, lol beat me to it.

The enemies are much tougher in the second playthrough. I jumped into someone else's game for some co-op and we had our asses handed to us (he was high 30s, I was low 30s).

Sledge is a bitch after you beat PT2 (when all mobs turn 50 - 51).
