So, who's thinking about Borderlands?

So, I finally finished the game.

Last boss is lame as everyone mentionied here.How come it can be dangerous if it could not move at all. Huge fat thing with tentcles. I just was staying behind a cover and shooting from shotgun till it died. Also, aliens models are lame. I mean, all other enemies are just perfect. But aliens do not look good at all.

Old Haven was intensive. So many enemies and so many drops although mostly drops were not good. Still, I made a lot of money there.

Overall it is a good game and I hope DLC will deliver better ending.
 
^^Agree completely. Just started my second playthrough (level 38 soldier) and the last boss was a let down. The rakk hive thing and skagzilla were alot more difficult and had a chance of downing you, but like said above the final boss just sat there and I just held down left click at it's eye? (green spots) until it died.

Like they say, the hardest bosses in the game are Moe and Marley.
 
How long is the single player?

I've bought dozens of titles this year (got a new PC in March) and it would be nice to actually finish one of them (the only game I've finished so far this year has been... get this... Assassin's Creed... I have no idea how that happened?).

I just started Borderlands last night. The art-style, which I hated based on screenshots, looks fifty times better in real time. I think it's a charming looking title.
 
1 run-through is ~20-25 hours depending on how many side quests you do really... you could probably do it faster, then there's the 2nd play-through which is the same quests basically just new harder enemies, and more / better weapons...
 
I just finished the game at level 42. I did everything. All the sidequests included. I love this game. I'm not sure I'm ready to replay it again any time real soon...I need to take a break and play something else.

I'm sure I put at least a good 30 hours into the single player.

The ending is a joke, like everyone has said, but I felt the story had a more than meets the eye quality to it and I at least come away with the feeling that there's something even bigger in the background that we'll hopefully see in a Borderlands 2 some day.

If you do some of the sidquests and you pay attention to some of the recordings you pick up, like Bioshock, you'll come away with more to chew on in terms of the story.

This is one of the best games I've played this year hands down. Easily.

Finally found the class that makes me enthusiastic enough to keep playing after I've played the heck out of the game with my soldier...a hunter. I plan on him being a gunslinger, after seeing a clip of one at 50 with a double thanatos, a gunslinger mod w/ ammo regen, and gunslinger skills...holy crap.

Funnily enough though, I don't actually remember choosing a class. I guess I did at the beginning of the game? I appear to be the female character. Not sure what that means, but I have an ability to go into stealth mode, which I've found to be useful when my shield drains all the way and I'm getting pummeled to death. Just activate the stealth mode and run like hell!

I'm at Level 11 already and I damn near just started the thing.

My one negative comment about the game - driving is damn near impossible, and I don't like it at all!

Don't overthink it.

All you do is aim wherever you want to go with your mouse and go. I got used to it and I thought it was a piece of cake.

After a brief adjustment I ended up liking the driving myself. The driving is almost too simple. ;)
 
yea but the thing is so weak tho, on my 2nd playthru coop with a friend, we were getting it blown up just running into some of the mf spiderants....
 
Just picked this up last week when it went on sale... starting playing it two days ago and it's fun so far. The music is ripped straight from 300 though....

Huh? How is the music ripped straight from 300? Main theme from Borderlands is Cage the Elephant - Ain't No Rest for the Wicked. The other song you hear often is DJ Champion - No Heaven.

The theme from 300 was Nine Inch Nails - Just Like You Imagined.

They're not even remotely similar genres of music. They sound nothing alike.

Ok...so I tried playing with random people instead of my friends, and my first time through I found a weapon laying on the ground called "The Twisted Spy". This thing flat out HAS to be a hack. Kind of fun just to mess with, but it makes the game kinda boring. ;) Check it out:

Man that thing looks incredible. I'd love to mess around with it but I'll be amazed if we find out that thing isn't a hack.

It's stuff like that though, that will make me stick to playing with friends only if I'm doing anything but just messing around. This game is way to easy to manipulate.

Very hard to find. I've been looking for a long time, but never found a double. I've found other Thanatos (incendiary, lightning, corrosive, scoped/unscoped), as well as other glitched weapons like the sniper rifle that has super zoom and another repeater that fires off the entire clip of 15 when zoomed (I snipe with this on my gunslinger). I did find a purple double repeater yesterday that had a clip of 54 and 105 x2 damage at a rate of 10.something rounds per sec.

Are there any weapons you might want to trade for it? It's not quite as good as a double thanatos but I think it would do the job.

I also am looking for a good gunslinger class mod with +pistol ammo regen (got addicted to having basically infinite ammo on my soldier)

Anyone figure out how the game calculates damage exactly?

Hypothetically, let's say I have two guns. Both do 200 damage. One has a +50% damage modifier. Are they going to do the same damage (i.e., the damage listed already has the damage mod figured in) or is the one with the modifier going to do more?

Single player is fantastic. This, and Risen, are two of the best games I've played this year, and both seemingly came from out of nowhere. There's something to be said for not knowing too much about a game before its release, or at least having no expectations for it. (Like Dragon Age, which I waited five years for... the letdown of the decade.)
 
It looks like the damage listed on the gun includes any +damage modifiers listed.

Also, as far as I can tell, damage bonuses are added together, so if you have a 200 damage weapon, and you get +24% damage from your proficiency, and +30% damage from a class mod, then it's:

200x(1+(.24+.30))=200x1.54=308.

I think I'm going to agree with you on this except I would add Batman AA to this list for myself. Batman, Risen, and Borderlands are the best games I've played so far this year.

If I play AC2, sight unseen, I know that's going on that list and it may even be my GOTY outright sight unseen. I'm waiting for the PC version with increasing impatience.

No offense, but you've been all over the place on your feelings about that game here and on at least one other forum. You loved it, you kind of liked it, you hated it, you kind of went back and forth and now it's firmly into hate crusade.

I said, at the beginning, that I believed it to be a very good game. The simple fact is (I've already explained this) that I was desperately trying to love the game, since I had been waiting five years for it! (I don't buy titles like this hoping not to like them.)

My initial comments were false, because I really wasn't enjoying the game that much, and simply didn't want to admit it to myself. I finally realized, after about twenty hours, that when it came right down to it I wasn't enjoying myself. It shocked me.

Back on topic...I found *a* Thanatos last night, just not the Double Thanatos I'm looking for:

My Cold Thanatos does something like 223, 90ish% accuracy, and fires something like 9 per second.

EDIT: I see you're online. I just sent you an invite to my game so you can get some of my stuff. EDIT: Your ports must not be open or something. Mine are. I have had hardforum ppl and rl friends successfully join my game. Try joining mine.
 
Tell you what: The second playthrough really is noticeably more difficult.
