I just got a Nook HD+ for $169, new from B&N.. (Goodyear store)
It seems they are doing a test market pricing in AZ right now (from what a little bird told me)
Searching the web finds that some other states might have it better...
I know not many people are using this yet.. But my question is:
If you have a boot SSD and another small SSD, can you have that small SSD be used for Smart Response Technology caching of hard drives only?
EG: Vertex 3 boot, and old Vertex 2 for SRT of spinning drives?
because if you...
A new contender in the price wars:
http://www.anandtech.com/show/3792/crucial-realssd-c300-64gb
At that price I am tempted even though I have no 6GB/s SATA on my board.
I guess it isn't so much of a price drop as a new price point since the 64GB wasn't available before this.
So I am looking for a Ethernet supporting enclosure that has USB and can be accessed by both at the same time over a wireless bridge.
What I am trying to do is connect the drive to my TV via USB (my TV plays movies off of USB very well) and to my network via my existing ethernet wireless...
So I had a thought. (dangerous I know)
Because many programs (like Steam +games for example) can be quite large and you don't always use all of the program, might a good use of a fast SSD be on a USB3 port as a ReadyBoost drive?
Say rather than get one huge SSD large enough to store...
New free online backup option for up to 25GB from Microsoft!

:D
Fry's has the 32GB Patriot SSD on sale for $69 AR ($89 +$20 MIR) and at that price I am tempted..
I am fairly sure these are the JMicron based ones, so I guess the question is if the stuttering issue has been addressed or if I should just skip this and be happy w my old skool raptor 160?
So I got a couple new 500GB 7200.11's from the geeks one day sale ($39 each) and now have to decide if I am going to use one as a boot drive.
Currently I have a 160GB Raptor (WD1600ADFD) as my boot drive (yes the ones Dell sold for cheap way way back) and a 300GB 7200.9 as my data drive...
So I got one of these cheap off of ebay to play around with
http://www.adaptec.com/en-US/support/sata/sataii/AAR-2420SA/
I am planning on using it in my OpenFiler box, but was curious if anyone has any experience with one to warn me about ;)
I will update on how it works for me once I get...
Fry's has the 8400 with a intel G35 based motherboard on sale this weekend, they also have the q9300 with a cheaper G31 based motherboard on sale for less..
So do I get the quad with not a good of a MB or the dual for more $$ with the better board?
Well we knew AMD's fusion was coming, but we didn't know what Intel's equivalent was.
Now it seems we do:
http://arstechnica.com/articles/paedia/hardware/clearing-up-the-confusion-over-intels-larrabee.ars
It looks interesting, and more flexible than what AMD has announced so far with Fusion.
What is the -5V rail used for.. And don't say the MB because I know that.
The reason I ask is that my trusty old IC7-Max2 died last night, and in the testing process I noticed that the -5V rail on my 425 W PCI-E ready PSU is "bad" (according to a tester with LED's that light up for each good...
I have a small problem where some of my computers on my network are connecting to a neighbor's unsecured wireless network, this lets those computer bypass content filtering that I have setup for the company.
So how can I lock down those PC's to only be able to connect to my secured wireless...
Here is a new Ageia Trailer:

After seeing this, I am considering buying one as soon as they come out.

http://www.msisettlement.com/
Abit actually came forward and prior to their settlement started repairing MB's with bad capacitors, and agreed to a settlement fairly quickly.
MSI finally lost their side of the lawsuit and will repair thier MB's MFGed between 99 and 02.
Hopefully the rest...

Non members pay 5% more.
MSRP is $499 so still a good deal even if you are not a member.

Fry's B&M stores have a good deal on a GQ branded Centrino laptop being a centrino it is all Intel based (CPU-Chipset-Wireless card etc) so drivers should not be a problem.. but I was wondering who the actual OEM/ODM is.
BTW this is the laptop in...

Well, not really. You can pick up a SAS HBA and use SAS and SATA drives, but you can't use SAS drives on an SATA controller. See UlCompE02's post below for why, although it will probably make your head hurt ;) Sorry guys, it would...
Not sure if this is B&M only, or if outpost.com has the same deal but today's Fry's ad in Phoenix has the Maxtor 250GB 16MB cache PATA retail box for $99 with no rebates.
Usually other Fry's locations have similar deals, but not always.

Is there a way to "enable" the 1280x960 resolution on my Fuji Plus LCD? (perhaps a custom monitor.inf file?)
I know it would have a black bar at the top and bottom of the screen (if I set it to center or to maintain aspect ratio) but this would be fine.
You see, one game that I play is...
I just got in my 19" Fuji 988, and while it is great in windows, it seems like the contrast is way too high...
EG: in Half Life 2 the shadows are too dark, and the lighted areas are too bright.. I tried playing with the settings a bit, but I don't know enough on how to setup a LCD for gaming...
Well, a few weeks ago, I bit on a Fry's deal and got a 2800+ A64 with MB for cheap. (something to play with)
I built a little game server out of it, and it has been chugging along just fine serving a 16 player ut2k4 server (with 8 bots) and a Freelancer server at the same time just fine. (on...
Well I have a SL5CL socket 478 mobile P3 at work from a dead laptop. (voltage regulators on MB died, so CPU should be fine)
I was wondering what I should do with it. It is 1.2ghz and has 512k of cache, so it is a hot little CPU, if not the greatest in the world...
I am sure someone will try it once they come out, but what are the chanses that if you take a current Xeon or Opteron and run it in a Dual MB with a Dual Core CPU in the other socket that it would work? (3 CPU's)
I know I know, slim to none.. but no real reason for it not to work.

Adrian's has a review of the dual core X800Pro Ultra 2X here:

Only one thing has me worried about this card, as you can see from the picture of it here:

The cores are...

Nforce 4 for Intel..
It looks like all Nvidia did was make a "northbridge" that is nothing but a memory controller and a hypertransport link, then use the exsisting Nforce 4 chipset from the Athlon 64 as the southbridge.

The Phoenix Fry's stores has the Hyundai L90D 19" LCD on sale for $329 instore price.
(often other Fry's have the same sales, but not always)
It seems a decent monitor, but only a 25ms responce time.
From what I can find, it has DVI, and full 8 bit color, only 250 lumens brightness...
Perhaps I am wrong, but from my point of view, if Apple were to put some form of video capture (or even better tuners) on it, the Mac Mini would be the ultimate HTPC.
I am sure several of the Linux HTPC utilities (MythTV?) can be ported to OSX if they have not alread been, or just run Linux...
We had a little accident at the house today, my roomate was makeing some custom power cables for his PC and used one on his 100GB WD hard drive. However he got the yellow and red cables switched by accident.
Needless to say, it let the magic smoke out.
If we were able to find a drive with...
I think the answer is no, but is there any chance one could run a Pentium M (socket 478) in a IC7-G (Max2 in my case) motherboard?

Well how much processor does the dedicated server need? I have a 700mhz P3 and a dual 450MHZ 2MB Xeon at home that have served as my game servers up to now.. both run even ut2k4 as servers just fine... but what about Doom3?
Any one tried this yet? (I will be trying it soon, probably next...
The things that caught my eye:
BTC 8x DVD+/-R $59 instore
WDse 120GB hd $79.99 - $30 rebate = $49.99 <- I think one of these will be mine
1GB PC3200 dual channel Kingston $159 - $30 rbate = $129
Star Wars KOTOR XBOX: $14.99
Plus all the usual stuff $89 AthlonXP+MB, $49 Leather...
Looking at the current crop of cards, I think there is a real market for a 256MB 6800, as 128MB looks to be a significant slowdown in Doom3. (and probably other future high texture games)
I do not think GDDR3 vs DDR1 is all that important, as all GDDR3 adds is the potential for faster RAM...
