I'm just curious as to which of the 3 "next gen" consoles gets your #1 pick right now or for the future.

I'd like to know what influenced your decision. Cost? Games? Just like the Brand? Longevity? Quality? Modifications? Features? Or are you just plain broke, and still playing your NES?

I myself voted for the PS3. I personally think that PS3 and X360 are gonna last the longest in this current console battle.

I love all 3 consoles, and I love what the Wii has brought to the table, but I think the Wii's life will live shorter than the other 2.... I think Wii has created an awsome stepping stone for Nintendo and I can see Nintendo releasing another console with more horse power and keeping a lot of their awsome gaming ideas.

As for PS3 and X360, I think they are both great consoles, both are going to put out lots of games for everyone to enjoy. I went with the PS3, only because my friend worked for X360 Customer Service and he kept telling me how much the X360 sucks in regards to quality and how its made. So I think over time as they can get all the quirks out of it, I would like to invest in one.
 
Can't say at this point.

If Nintendo can keep a decent stream of good games coming for the Wii, it will most certainly dominate. If they do like the Gamecube, and all but drop all 1st-party support after the first two years, the Wii will fade into 3rd place like its predecessor.

The PS3 will never be on top. Sony has lost too many 1st-party titles for it, and has said the price will not come down for a long, long time. I don't think we will see Sony reclaim the big name they formed during the PS2 era until the PS4, unless they can get the price seriously down and some good games out.
 
I own all 3 and I'm going with the 360. It's powerful, has a giant library, Halo 3 will be out this year, and Xbox Live is in place and is miles ahead of the the competition.
I think the extra year has allowed them to get the kinks out faster than the other 2.
I think the Wii is a guaranteed success, but I don't see it having the lasting power of the other 2. It's tough to play Gears of War and go back to anything else...no matter what the control scheme is.
 
I voted for the Wii, the main reason being price. Not the price now, but later. I can easily see the Wii being $99 in 3-4 years, put that together with hopefully a bunch of good games and we have a winner.

Until that price drop happens, the 360 will be king. It has the lead in sales and as soon as Halo 3 drops, they are going to be sold out everywhere this upcoming holiday season.

I just don't see good things for the PS3.
 
bought all 3. picked xbox360 for the games, online play and dashboard features.
 
My vote goes to 360.

Best current and future game lineup and Best features (Live Arcade, Marketplace, Media Center Extender).

I'll probably pick up PS3 whenever MS4 comes out (unless my prayers are answered and kojima goes multi-platform). Got a wii at launch, sold it in january, got real old real quick, and the future game lineup (with the excpetion of the 1st party titles of course), wasnt looking too hot.
 
I voted for the PS3. I do have one. Just give it more time, then you will see why PS3 is #1.
 
Ps3 is weak right now, much like how the 360 was when it was launched, i can only see it getting better. on top of that Bluray is catching on too and Wii only has a DVD player so that will probably push the Japanese market, and then almost all the games i'm waiting for are on the PS3, the Wii i will get but not for a while. not until it has a bunch of decent 1st party games bcs we all know that 3rd party on nintendo consoles is crap(excluding handhelds)

See, this is where I think the PS3's downfall is: I don't think BD is catching on. I think the only reason BR outsold HD in December was because of the PS3 early adopters: they bought a PS3, Resistance, and a few BD movies to stick under the tree. I think that the influx of BD sales will go down now that the PS3's initial rush has died.

I believe that when HD prices come down as promised this year, BD will die and the PS3's only selling point will go down with it.
 
I own the X360 and the wii.. i picked X360.. because it has more games at the moment... or should i say.. more games that interest me
 
I dont think I could choose one right now. Kinda too early to tell. In the end it will come between PS3 or 360 for me.

Nothing against you as you were just stating your opinion, but the facts show quite the opposite. BD has done nothing but increase its share since December. By your logic, it would have been dying down for the month of January and February. (aren't PS3's supposed to be gathering dust on store shelves. :p ) But they haven't. BD has outsold HD DVD every week, and each week it is by a larger margin. You don't make up 8 months of being outsold by your competitor in only 2 months without there being a major shift in the market. That shift has happened and there is nothing on the HD DVD side that signifies they can reverse it. And to the original poster's topic, this is PS3's biggest strength and gamble. To Sony's credit, it is looking like it is paying off and that makes the rest of the BD group happy.

I voted PS3. Not based on what is out now, but what is in the pipeline and the quality of the actual console. I had an Xbox and only supported Microsoft last gen and loved it at first, but they slowly lost my support even after being flown out by them to preview the 360 before it came out. I just wasn't impressed and I didn't like how they basically dropped support for the Xbox when the 360 became their focus. I expect in about 3 years when they start promoting the 720 or whatever random number they choose to go with, it will be the same with the 360.

The Wii still feels too gimmicky to me. It's fun for awhile, but that soon wears off. I appreciate Nintendo trying something new, and focus on gameplay but this was 2006. There is no excuse for poor graphics. It shouldn't be one or the other, you can have both. I feel it will die off in 2 years. PS3 will end up on top, but by a lesser margin than the PS2/Xbox days.
 
There were rumors of DVD playback on the Wii, but it hasn't been brought up in years. In all seriousness, who lacks a DVD player? You can get a cheapo that'll still do DVD's in 480p for $50. 2 last gen systems had playback and 2 of the current gen ones do too. If you don't have a DVD player by now, I have no clue what you've been waiting for. Might as well buy an MP3 player with 24MB of memory while you're at it.
 
i have a ps3 + 1080p tv and i'm very impressed with the blu-ray player. like others have said, the game library is less than desired at this time. one thing that i've to give sony props for is how aesthetically pleasing the ps3 looks: 2 cords from the back and that's it. with the wii, the setup looks more messy with the sensor bar and extra cords on the system and controller.
 
Xbox 360: I love my 360 and Wouldnt give it up for the world

PS3: I like the PS3 as well. I think its a very Impressive System and I think when more Games are Released it will sell more and Hopefully people will see its True Potential that I think it has.

Wii: To me the Wii is very Childish and I do own one but I havent touched it since Launch.
 
For now, my vote is for the Wii. It's the cheapest by far, it's a great party system (I live in a dorm), and it's just...different. Plus it's fun!

But yes, I'm a poor college student so right now money is probably the deciding factor.
 
I would not be shocked if the Wii ended up winning this Generation. Its cheap price and fun factor are obviously helping Nintendo sell a lot of them. It has already hit the half way point, as far as catching up to the 360's installed user-base. I just wonder if Nintendo can continue the run, and maintain plenty of support for the console, outside their own first party titles. They've had a pretty bad track record, the last two systems, compared to their compeition, when it comes to third parties. They seem to be doing much better this time around.

Still, as of now I have to go with the 360. It's got more games that I'm interested in, has an online service that has set the bar for online console gaming, and is getting some once thought PS3 exclusives that I'm also looking forward to.
 
The 360 is a good system, but the game library consists of too many shooter variations for my liking.

The Wii I'll probably pick up sometime next year. It's doing something different with the Wiimote just like the DS with the stylus, but from what it looks like to me, it's going to have a lot of party games, quirky titles, and of course, Nintendo first-party titles. It will never see games like Devil May Cry, Tekken, Lost Planet, Metal Gear, Armored Core, Ninja Gaiden, Final Fantasy, Ace Combat, etc because the hardware isn't powerful enough. This is why I will probably pick it up sometime next year as a secondary console mostly to play those first-party titles that I just mentioned(as long as they allow Gamecube/classic controller support).

The PS3 is the one I'm most looking forward to picking up even though I've had to delay my purchase a few times due to moving expenses and games being pushed back. Even if every major third-party title that was exclusive to the PS2 goes multi-platform this gen, that leaves first-party titles, and Sony has more of a variety of those that appeal to me than the other two. It's online service needs some work, but it is free, and I like that the PlayStation store charges in actual dollar amounts instead of using points. PS3 games are region free, and that's very important to me as I love schmups, which are rarely released outside of Japan, so I can play them without having to modify the system. Add in near 100% backwards compatibility with PS1 and PS2 titles, and the PS3 gets my thumbs up.
 
I have owned all 3 systems and voted for the 360. I play my 360 quite a bit and think it has the best library now. That is obviously to be expected though, as it has quite a head start.

My PS3 is just collecting dust at this point. I do think that it will have some great games in the future though, so I don't really regret my purchase. And it is nice to have a BD player as I wouldn't have bought one otherwise for quite some time.

I had a Wii for about a month, but it really wasn't my cup of tea, so I gave it to my nephew. He absolutely loves it and I really enjoy playing the system with him, but for whatever reason I couldn't get into it when I was at home playing myself. It is a lot of fun playing with other people though.
 
I vote Wii because it's what I want right now. But if any system releases Radiant Silvergun for download, I will buy that one right away.
 
I also own all three systems and I would also vote for the 360. I do 95% of my gaming on the X360 because the other systems just don't have many games out. That may change this week as the Tekken 5 DR and VF5 come out this week.

Ahhh, Treasure and their memory shooters(RS, Ikaruga, Silpheed, Gradius V)...lol.

I'd love to play that game myself without having to spend $170-$250 on ebay for it, but I don't think we'll be seeing it any time soon. Saturn emulation isn't even anywhere near perfect on a PC, and I don't think Radiant Silvergun even works with MAME at this point.
 
The Wii gets the #1 nod from me, but only because I think it is a complementary system, it does wonderfully in what it does, but it is no replacement for a pc, 360 or ps3. (If you wanted any system prior to the wii the wii will probably not change your mind)

Treasure has said they're developing an all-new top-down shmup for the 360, so i'm hoping :) Even Ikaruga on GC is getting relatively pricey, you can't find it new anywhere anymore.

Yeah, I haven't seen it new on ebay except for PAL format.

I paid $45 for a used DC copy a while back, which is odd considering it usually goes for atleast $70, but maybe I just got lucky.

Other schmups like Ketsui, Espgaluda 2, Mushihime-sama Futari, and Pink Sweets - Ibara Sorekara should see console releases some time this year or next, although they will probably be PS3 exclusives.
 
Loving the PS3 for movies and games, Wii gets used loads when i have a lot of people around, 360 has a big nextgen library with some cool games, i just sold it hough but am getting a black one when and if it comes out here in the UK. But PS3 has to get my vote for its uses as an all rounder.
 
my current vote is for the 360. I've got a wii and a 360, still on the fence about the ps3, though. I chose the 360 because it has a pretty good library of games, great online games, the friend system, ability to easily download new demos, movies, arcade games and able to stream movies and pictures from my pc.
 
I voted 360 because at this point it's probably the best console. The PS3 and Wii need more time for a solid library to build up, then the real competition can start.

I actually just picked up my 360 last week because of this reason. I'm also finding myself getting out of the JRPG deal, so I think more games I want to play (shorter/more action oriented) are going to be coming out on the 360. I'll probably pick up a ps3 in a couple years when the game lineup is big enough that I can get it and a bunch of games right away. Hopefully with some price drops ;)
 
Looks a tie between Wii and the Xbox360. Both offer the opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of gaming. Some will pick one end, some will pick the other, and some will end up getting both.

However, the PS3 is directly in competition with the Xbox360 offering basically the same functionality but at a higher price and a smaller selection of games, this will decrease the number of consoles sold. Less consoles sold means less games developed for the platform since it hurts developer profits to sell to a small market. Less games developed for the platform means less consoles sold. This multiplier effect makes that high price hurt the system even more than just the dollar amount, it is also hurting the utility value of the system over the long-term. It will still have games made for it, but those games which lost their PS3 exclusivity would not have spread out if it weren't for this price problem. The price hurts the PS3 more than once.

However, Sony is not just looking to have the highest install base. If that were true they'd remove BR and they could then sell it at the same price as the Xbox360 and wouldn't have had shortages at launch too. Another goal they have is to beat HDVD, which it is doing. The number of BR out there is small, but so is HDVD. We don't need either BR or HDVD right now.


But that's not what's important. What's important to Sony is that BR outnumbers HDVD and it's accomplishing that. Eventually technology will advance and someday we will look for a better data format. And which do you think the consumer market will migrate to? It'll go to the biggest install base available at that time, which will be BR. A new format coming out by then is possible, but then that one will still have to be better enough to compete with the fact that BR will have an install base in place and will have already matured in production revisions by having been brought to market while the new format would still have a lot of variables to work around or work through.

Sony sacrificed PS3 in hopes of establishing BR in the future. They'll get what they wanted...someday. Just not everything they wanted, since it looks like it will come in last among these three.

Also, we will probably see an end in the "Generation" cycle. Notice the year between Xbox360 and the other 2 systems? Also consider that the Wii is an innovation that has not incorporated the latest tech. A Wii 2 that /does/ incorporate the latest tech could be brought to market much faster. The 3 big name companies won't necessarily be bringing their next products out at the same time. This will help muddy the waters a bit.
 
+1 for the Wii here.

Its the only console out of the 3 that does something my high end PC can't. And nintendo have nearly perfected the art of single-screen multiplayer fun, so for those of us without broadband at home, its a great social element added. Plus the games (so far) seem more focus on the fun side of gaming. When I want to play a console, I dont want to have to remember 374 button combo's, or invest heaps of time into leveling and learning game mechanics and design, etc. I want to turn it on, sit down (or stand up) and start having fun.

The home of 'serious gaming' is the PC for me.

I'll disagree with you there. I can't look at a DVD anymore. I've had my first HDTV for 5 years now and it is about time something came out that really puts it through its paces. What we don't need is both formats.

I would wager that the Wii actually stalls out earlier than both the 360 and PS3. It will still get 25+m consoles sold but they probably will do what you said and bring out a Wii(2) before the next gen race comes.

I went with the Wii, I didnt like the first Xbox too much, and while the 360 has a great game selection, a few of which I wouldnt mind playing I dont see much on the way to warrent my money.

The PS3 has good graphics, BR player, but no games that I am willing to pay 60 bucks for let alone the console. My regular DVD's can be upconverted to look pretty nice so no point in buying any movies in BR.

The Wii came with my favorite game for the system at the moment. Sadly not much else launched that I found really fun. Zelda excluded of course. But checking the future releases I see quite a few games that I know I want to play, sadly the two big ones were pushed back till later in the year but I can wait.

Also as a PC gamer I cannot stand FPS games on controllers, to limiting for me. (unless its goldeneye for the 64, blew so many hours in that) so I agree with Droopz.

I'm not sure I fully agree with you. Its hard for some to think back and remember the X360 launch, most of us only revolve around the present.

When the X360 was launched, they were not able to manufactor them fast enough for everyone to get one. I also can reflect back and remember that when the X360 was released it didnt have a bunch of titles either. It simply just takes time. I'm glade that PS3 titles are slow coming out, hopefully that means I'll get a more polished product. But if we give the PS3 enough time as the X360 has had to mature, I'm sure PS3 will follow suit.

I think we DO need BR OR HDVD... we need something. I have a TV that can take advantange of 1080p and would like to have content for it.
 
Wii... I think there's a LOT of untapped potential there that will give us something NEW :). I voted with my wallet, as well, at launch.
 
i saw a comparision between the 360 and ps3, the 360 had better graphics! is this the only reason people are choosing the wii and 360 instead of the ps3? what's happening??:D :)
