Nope. A modest HTPC capable of playing back 1080p & HDDVD will suit just fine. :)

Its probably going to be a 2.5ghz Brisbane, 8500gt, and 2gb of ram. I'll be ordering that this month.

For those following along, I'll have more picture updates this weekend. All the can lighting is installed, all the trim/molding is painted, and everything is finished except the carpet and painting the walls.

Update...

Got the first coat of paint down. All the white trim pieces are finished. The first coat of blue in the entry way by the stairs looks perfect, and it is getting a second coat tomorrow. That room will be done. The theater room got one coat of theater red, but you can still see through it.. it looks pretty bad in the pictures as you can tell. :p Another coat or two and it should look stunning. But dam, the theater red paint is expensive. It is over $50 per gallon, and its probably needing 3 gallons. The cost of paint and primer alone for both rooms is around $275. It will look pretty awesome when finished.

I threw in a pic of the Detroit Edison truck parked in the driveway for stringing the new power line from the pole. It was freaking huge.. lol. I don't know how they fit it back there.

very nice work thus far, been watching for the past few weeks, cannot wait to see it finished!! Keep up the good work:)

Nice work w1retap. Lookin' good! ;)
Like your ride too

Gonna move your HTPC down there I suppose? :)

Building a new HTPC. :) It's going to be AM2 based with an 8500GT passively cooled in an Antec NSK2400 case. It will strictly be for HD content (x264, mkv, mpeg2, xvid, wmvhd, etc) and HDDVD.. possibly Blu-ray too in the future when they start making combo drives for the PC.

Looking nice..! You should be happy with that TXSR605. I personally LOVE Onkyo, I went the easy way out and got an Onkyo HTIB, which included an almost identical receiver as yours but no HD upconverting via HDMI... which leads me to ask, will you be using your receiver to change your inputs to the projector or use your devices directly to the projector? Not that it's that big of a deal, just more wires in the long run... hah, pun.

p.s. Are you also going to tie things together with, per say, a Harmony remote or some such? They're quite impressive... but takes all the fun of having to use all 4 remotes! Haha.

p.p.s You have PM.

Everything will be going into the receiver, then the receiver is the only thing connected to the projector. I'll run an HDMI line and a component line.

As far as remotes, its no big deal to me and I won't have a whole lot to control. I'll just use the factory remotes and the nice microsoft keyboard/mouse combo that is specifically for the media center computers.

W1retap,

You really should consider getting one of the harmony remotes. Keep your eyes open and you can get a refurb remote for a very low price and they freaking rock. They have more then just the universal ability going for them. They also have the most powerful IR emitters I have ever seen in a remote. I can use my harmony 659 from over 100 feet away. This means you dont even have to point the remote directly at the unit you want to control and it still functions. Check em out here.

Thanks. I'm pretty familiar with the logitech remotes. I've used them on several occasions. I just don't have enough equipment that I need to control to justify buying one. I do like their remotes and consider them the some of the best out there, it's just I don't need it.

I always get all hyped up when I see the last poster in a worklog being the OP, gets my hopes up towards an update :(

lol. :p Don't worry.. I'll have an update when I get home from work around 7:00pm EST. The only thing exciting happening is painting. The final coat should be on the theater room if it turned out ok. On the second coat yesterday you could still see overlap dark areas. I'm really disappointed with the way the theater red paint is applying. I might go back to Sherwin Williams tonight to ask for a partial refund. 3 to 4 coats is unacceptable in my opinion for $50/gal paint.. especially for how big the room is. It should be 2 coats and done like the light blue entryway room at the bottom of the steps.

Agreed about the paint, unless they told you this stuff dosent go on easy - which is stupid either way, for such a dark color. And dont rush the update, I'm working till 10 EST :D

Great worklog, the constant updates are much appreciated. I'm looking forward to seeing it all come together.

I am curious about your choice of Yambeka Audio speakers. I'm currently looking for a ~$500 5.1 speaker set to pair with an Onkyo TX-SR504, and I'm considering the Yambeka 5pc set and Radiient Calypso 5pc set among others. I was wondering what led you to choose Yambeka and what alternatives you considered. Ditto for your sub woofer. Right now I'm considering an AV123 X-Sub.

thanks!

Looking great w1retap, can't wait to see more! If you have any questions about the projection system, SJetSki71 on these forums is a great resource and a cool guy besides.

Update..

The 3rd coat of paint is on, and its 95% better. One more coat (4th) will do it. I can't believe this paint. We went over and talked with Sherwin Williams, and they said the paint just spreads really thin for some reason. I talked to another lady that used the same paint, and she had to use 8 coats! I don't recommend this paint to anyone, it's impossible to work with. It does look pretty dam amazing in person though. Its one of the best colors I've seen to do a theater in.. I guess that's why it's called "theater red". :p The picture with the 3 outlets is for the HTPC/receiver area. The left is a pass-thru that allows all the cables to come through the wall. The middle is ethernet, and the right is power.

I am a little late posting the pictures because my A/C went out for some odd reason. I had the power company out, but its nothing on their end. I gave the heating & cooling company a call, but they aren't in this late. Hopefully it's fixed by tomorrow. It is going down to a low 80F or something tonight, so this should be fun.. It's about 95F during the day.

Thanks. I'm custom building a 105'' screen. Just go a few posts back and you'll see the frame for it. ;) :)

edit: Post #65.

The AC also went out at my place. It got over 100 in there... sigh. I feel your pain.

Stupid question, but I notice on the B&H website that it says the native resolution is 1080p but it does not list 1080p in the HDTV Compatibilty section. Does this projector accept 1080p over it's HDMI port? (from a PS3 for example) Or will it only accept up to 1080i and then deinterlace it.

Also, how are you planning on mounting the projector?

Looks really good man, and as far as the paint is concerned, I have had the same issues with any shade of red... I have a few walls in my house that are a very similar color and it was nothing but a pain in the ass.... patience and a lot of paint...

Again, it looks great!

In the users manual, it says it does 1080p native over HDMI (HDMI v1.3 input on the projector). As of now, no broadcasts are in 1080p, only 1080i max. The 1080p content I run to it will come from from the home theater pc running my movies and hddvds.

8 coats?! geez, isn't she a noob?

for common house painting, apply primer first then two coats of your choice and bam, we are done.

Update..

Got the A/C fixed. A capacitor shit out on the contact action board that controls the compressor.. that and the thermostat took a dump somehow in the process. But, its slowly getting back to the normal 72F in the house. :D

The "theater red" paint is done! Finally after 4 coats it looks great, especially in person. The combination of lighting and a crappy digital camera doesn't do it justice, but it will give you an idea. Tomorrow I have to go around the molding and lightly sand and repaint some white where the red seeped behind the painter's tape stuff. It should only take an hour or so.

We are in the process of painting the doors, finishing off the ceiling tile placement, installing wall outlet covers, and then installing doorknobs. After that, the carpet is last to finish off the room so I can start moving/building my stuff in there.. Yay!!!

The boxes have been opened and inspected for content. I must not spoil any fun until the theater is done and they can all be properly used. :)

is 13 feet wide, wide enough? I have a similar space but it is 12 feet wide and it seems very cramped.

tsk tsk, should've gone for a 111" screen so I can claim someone has a bigger screen than my buddy's 110" :D
