Windows 7 Beta Goes Public

iirc, in other parts of the world they favor using the day first in a date/time stamp, so 10/1/2009 in those other parts of the world means January 10th, 2009... so it's probably accurate, he's just not in the US/North America more than likely.

im in the US, its just my cousin sent my sis this laptop and he's in Australia for studies and stuff, any idea how to change it back to month first? :p

His profile says NJ....not as far away as some might think..:)

And another tip: showing you're here at the HardForum and also showing a screenshot of Firefox with AdBlock Plus isn't necessarily a good thing considering this forum is largely advertiser supported... ;)

The links listed on the Download Manager for Firefox should not be showing HardForum.com as the source either... there's something wrong with that. I just started a download from that link you used (same post) and cancelled it after 10 seconds, and it shows microsoft.com as the source domain...

Guys, the servers are back up! :D

o my mistake, i didnt actually install it for use on this site, i just turned the stop seen green for this site :)

As for the links, how should i go about fixing that then? so far even through yesterday, the domain never came up microsoft.com which surprised me but didnt really come up as a thought sine some of downloads nearly hit the gig mark before saying complete

In the control panel look for the regional and language (or something like that). There you can set how the time is displayed, how the date is displayed and all that stuff.

I was able to start my download last night around 11:30 CST and it was done by 2:15ish, hanging in the 300-400KB/sec range over my wireless network.

I couldn't get a key last night but was able to get one this morning on the first try around 11. Steps are:

Go to technet.microsoft.com and sign in with your hotmail/live/whatever account.
Then manually paste in this page:
https://www.microsoft.com/betaexperience/productkeys/win7-64/enus/default.aspx

worked, and I printed it out.

No no no, you're doing it the hard way, not the Hard way. :)

Click Start, type "date" and wait a second or two, then when the list appears, it should be the 4th option, click that, wham, you're there.

Gotta start giving people answers based on the NEW way of doing things so they get used to Windows 7 that much faster... and yes, this is easy to do in Vista also. But the idea is do it the easier more efficient way and not the hunt and click stuff of old...

I used the link somebody provided on the forum yesterday to download. and I downloaded the ISO at over 2.5 mb a sec, I had it downloaded in 15 minutes or less. But I am on Fiberoptic

links didnt work again, at around 375 megs it said complete and the domain was hardforum, now im really lost

everyone who has completed a download, which version did you download, x86 or x64?

everyone who has completed a download, which version did you download, x86 or x64?

both, I was running the x86 version in a VM for a bit, ditched it and set up a dual boot with the x64 version

ok i thought maybe 32-bit was having the problems since i need that for iTunes.

If anyone is having problems i recommend trying at the download page from microsoft. its slower but hopefully it'll work, make sure your also not using FF since it doesnt start if your in it

And the speed fluctuates a lot, jumping from 1MB/s to 600KB/s and such

Well, I see two issues:

1) You're using IE and that shitty Microsoft Download Manager to get the ISOs, bad idea.

2) You've got Firefox with a superior Download Manager and links directly to the ISOs back a few pages in this thread so it won't try to force you to use that shitty Microsoft Download Manager.

Kill issue 1 and fix issue 2 and you'll get the ISOs. :) Use Firefox's Download Manager and the direct download links posted in this thread and you'll be good to go...

ps

It looks like you might be on a wireless connection too... wireless fluctuates constantly and will never match a wired connection for solid consistent throughput. Those speed differences are perfectly normal on a wireless connection...

Haha i tried the links back in the beginning of this thread with FF starting yesterday and even today but like i said it also said completed at random times not finishing the download.

In IE with the download manager microsoft uses for the downloading of the ISO, its not as fast as it was in FF but at least the download is going through and working unlike FF.

btw the fluctuations with the downlaod manager are indeed horrible, i jsut dropped from 1MB/s to 400 KB/s :(

that may be, but i tried both a wireless connection and a wired one yesterday while i was trying the downloads and there was no speed speed differences or inconsistencies between the two, so i wouldnt think that would be the problem. its most likely because it is a bad download manager and the fact there is at least a 100,000 other people trying to get the download too :)

I finally got a download that has a matching MD5. Third try, haha. Used a download manager this time, not sure if that's what did it, or if it would have been fine anyways. Either way I'm glad, haha. Time to burn it and test it out. :)

I found the easiest way to get a key. I was trying yesterday like everyone else till like 6pm. Then I did this:

I dl'ed the iso via torrent and had an avg of 800kb/s.
I got off my computer and went out and had some real life fun.
I got home at about 11am and found Terry's post on the front page.
I visited said url and followed said instructions. I got the key within 3 minutes on my first try.
I then started the download from that page just in case my torrent'ed one is "noobed" somehow.

Now, I am sitting back, relaxed and read the 8 pages of posts that happened between the time I was out having a real life and the time I got back. I can't believe I am hearing about/seeing some of the sheeps here damn near DOS'ing MS's page to get the fucking key. Jesus, go out, try to get some pussy, lol.

Well now the site is in good shape. I waited until today to try again and got my key in seconds. Anyway, gave me time to restore my Vista install (punkbuster doesn't work in Windows 7) so I can dual boot. yay!

just finished installing on my macbook .....im getting bsod.

64-bit Win7 Works fine on my Macbook (late 2008 alum). I even got Bootcamp installed with a little help from this post on Macrumors. Copy bootcamp folder from Leopard DVD, apply patch (the 2.0 version), install... download 2.1 update from Apple. Voila. :D

Hmm? Win7 installs even faster than Vista but Vista took usually 30 minutes on mid-ranged hardware when it came out two years ago. One reason why I hated doing XP installations afterward.
