They're cheaper... in general. You can pay $180-220 a panel regular price on an eyefinity of 23"-24" 1080p screens and end up with 6 megapixels of resolution but inferior panel tech and bezels, or $1000+ for a 30" IPS LCD with no bezels and 4.1 megapixels of resolution. With the lower cost of entry and "fad" nature that multi-screen displays have right now, it's not too surprising (though it is a little, I'll admit).
Stop talking megapixels and start talking Field of View and I think you would understand the "fad" a bit more.

And if you'd ever like to see what Surround is like on quality panels, more than welcome to try out my PC.

Fad or not, I plan to always have an eyefinity/surround setup going forward. Though I may pick up a 30" or three at some point as well. I am planning to wait a few years on that though. Prices on the 30"s will eventually come down to 24" levels, just as the 24"s came down to 19" levels, and 19"s to 17", etc. etc..

Unfortunately quality 1200p 24's have not budged in price in 5 years. The only way 30's will come down drastically in price is if a budget TN panel is created which I don't see happening anytime soon. More then likely you'll get mix breed TV/Monitor in that range without 1600p along with it, 1080p would be my guess.

It's pretty awesome that more people on [H] are running eyefinity/surround setups than 30inchers. Hopefully future GPU reviews will take that into account. I realize it's still a pretty small number, but it's definitely pretty [H]ardcore. It's also the first thing people with these setups care about.

2560X1600 with all max settings

Got my new Dell U3011 last month and everytime I start up a game I'm amazed on how awesome it looks. Came from a Samsung 24" 244t IPS too.

Multi-monitor is more popular than 1680x1050? This forum is either way [H]arder than I thought or ppl are full of shit :)

I am surprised 1600x1200 isn't more popular, I guess now a days everyone wants widescreen.

I prefer 4:3 ratio, guess I am old.

steam needs to update their MultiMonitor options. Shows 2960x1080 as most popular, and falling by .44%, while the normal Multi sizes (5040x1050, 5760x1200,5760x1080, or Bezel correction sizes) aren't even listed while "other" is over three times higher then the next highest and rising by .83%. Really should fix that.

modern games are designed with for widescreen so 4:3 is very restrictive. Dead Space was the final straw for me at 4:3 as that was just too claustrophobic. I could never go below 16:9 after using it for 2 years.

Interesting results thus far. I'm pleasantly surprised by how many game at 16:10. 16:10 ftw! :)

SHIT!!! I accidentally hit 1920x1080 instead of 1200.....

I think it was the first 1920x i saw and just got lazy, sorry for skewing the data and causing bad results :D

I was at 1920 x 1200 for the last year or so on a 28". Now I'm at 5920 x 1200 on 3x 28" and I'll never go back to a single display unless my cards can't handle the game on 3.

1920x1200 24" benq. 1080p is for televisions.

Even so, I am surprised that fewer respondents to this poll claim using the generally less expensive 1080p monitors, than 1920x1200 monitors.

Considering they almost don't make 1920x1200 monitors any more, I'm surprised 1080p monitors aren't more prevalent here than they are.

They do make them, you just have to spend a good $300-400 a monitor to get a decent IPS panel rather than the $150 crap most people buy.

Rizen: Exactly. They exist in a few premium monitors, and that's about it. Almost everything in that area is 1920x1080 now, including all the monitors for the masses. I also notice 20" 1680x1050s have been all but abandoned in favour of 1600x900 and 1440x900s, ugh. I liked 20" 1680x1050s as the pixel pitch was really tight and they looked quite good. Despite owning a 3008WFP I paid 13 times as much for (not a typo), I'm chuffed with my second hand SM2032BW, was a great purchase. Shame I lent it to someone and they scratched it

Funny I voted 1680x1050 (I think) about a good 3 weeks ago I got 3 23.6inch asus 120hz monitors for surround gaming and a rig I'm putting together. I'm currrently using one of those asus monitors as I type this and for the last 3 weeks but if this thread would have come out in a week or 2 from today I would have had to vote multi monitor and add to that crowd's percentile :D

1280 x 1024. IIyama Prolite TFT screen :)
Could fit up to a 20" perhaps, but my workspace would get very crowded.
