Warhammer Online Thread!

I tried beta 3.1 back in Summer, and game seemed pretty cool, BUT the slow combat pace really hurt the game for me. I am used to playing a Rogue-comabt in WoW and that character is warp speed attacker, and I really like that fast attack feel.

But WAR seemed like I was playing underwater while attacking. That was my only major gripe with the game, and that graphics are not that bad, really are much better than WoW.

Since closed beta, Mythic has patched the combat so that it's more fluid and faster. The graphic options have also been unlocked now that head start has began.

The game looks AMAZING running at 1920x1200 with 16xAF and 16xAA. A big step up from WoW.

The paces feels spot on for me. You don't get 2 shotted like you can in WoW. HP and damage normalization makes for a much more entertaining experience. (IE if you're a lowbie your HP and Damage get boosted so it's more even with higher levels, but higher level characters will still have more abilities unlocked).

With good team work, the pace is very good. The key is teamwork. 1 v 1 is not supposed to be "balanced".

Here's a quick look at the graphics.

Oh please. I'm tired of seeing former Rogues complain. I played a Rogue, and their gameplay was really boring. Auto-attack was responsible for a ton of your DPS.

If you think auto-attack + broken WoW PvP is more fun, fine. But please, stay away from WAR and spare me your idiotic prattle.

Quick question - I've been looking at getting into a good RPG. WOW was okay when played with friends, but boring without the clan. And I found it repitive (I'd rather undergo waterboarding than do the Barrens again).

Do you guys recommend this game? Is it just a boring grind? How large is the world?

Yeah, I hear ya. I am a noob on Wow and already getting sick of it at level 33.

Hard to say if War is or isn't "the same old grind" but I think the solid rvr, pvp will prevent some of that.

As an ex-WoW player, I was looking specifically for something that wasn't a grind, both in quests and loot, and didn't require exorbitant amounts of my precious time. After playing the open beta, I can happily say Warhammer surprised me in all of these areas. Public quests are a very welcome change from the common quest grind and a very elaborate PVP system helps get away from the loot grind. Both of these systems require very little time on my part, are fun, and I always come away feeling like I accomplished something.

I could go into further details about Warhammer, but I would suggest going to the official website and watching some of the production podcasts just to get an idea of how much different Warhammer is from WoW.

So, yes I recommend it. The two systems in the game keep it from being a boring grind. And the world is about as large as the two starting continents in WoW (about 40 zones).

Speaking of queues...I have both horde and alliance mages in WoW. I would love to log into my horde account knowing I can gether 20k honor points in the amount of time it would take alliance to get 8-10k because every battle group was instant queue for practically every server. I really enjoyed playing DoK in WAR but there was not a single server in closed beta that had more Order than Destruction. Are the queues in this game similar ?

Last I heard queues for most servers were in the 600s.
This game isn't a grind at all which is 1 of the reasons I liked it. I would recommend it. Will pick it up when they put back in the cut classes.
Empire Knight and Dark Elf Black Guard ftw.....

Yeah, the lack of grind in this game is part of the appeal for me.

Well, it's probably more accurate to say that the grind is simply not as painless and is much more varied and interesting than the PvE grind in other MMOs.

I was able to play for the first time yesterday (pre-ordered the day after the open beta ended). I've played them all, UO, EQ (1+2), AO, DAOC, SWG, WOW, AOC,SB etc. et al

This really surprised me quite a bit. The public questing is AWESOME. Haven't gotten chance to PvP yet, but so far it's WAY less of a grind than any of these other games mentioned (well, except UO). Time will tell if it keeps my attention longer than the others but i am very very positively surprised.

Are the queues for Destruction players because there's too many? Or is it for the servers overall?

Played about 3 hours yesterday. Good fun. I am starting to wonder about the balancing of destruction vs order though, every server seems to have a ton of destruction.
But that means if you like Order, like me, you will never have a queue.

I have encountered absolutely no queues on Red Eye Mountain.

The queue times occur when the servers are "full". The more full each side is, the longer the queue times.

Hopefully Mythic will raise the population cap on the servers when it's fully released or people will migrate to other servers. Mythic did say they may offer free server transfers at some point if it doesn't resolve itself.

Good to hear that things are going smoothly with this.

Now, if only A) the deployed BX would actually get this game in any time soon, and B) the internet connection was fast enough to play it...

Maybe I'll be able to find a place to live when I get back quickly enough that my two weeks of R&R won't entirely be taken up by house hunting and moving (I moved out of where I was staying before I deployed and put my stuff in storage so I'm homeless right now heh)

Right now only 4 servers get full often. My servers are never full thus no queues.

same I play on pheonix throne and there are no ques for either side and the population is balanced, never any ques any longer thna 10 min for me on the destruction side for a scenario. And the open PvP goes back and forth constantly which is nice, not 1 side dominates all the time.

Having a balanced pop make it alot funner

Sweet, the SA Goons are on Azazel which is the server I chose. I'm not sure why they chose a core server, I thought open RvR would be more up their alley... It shouldn't affect things for me much though since they're also Destruction.

Despite my pre-order, and finally getting Direct2Drive to offer me a link to the full client and not the beta, I got an email telling me I can't get in with the head start and that I'll have to wait until tomorrow.

Life will go on, but I'm quite annoyed.

Has anyone picked up the retail discs yet? I know some stores broke release date already. I was curious what happens (if anything) when you try installing the discs with the beta client already installed?

They are the same client.

Heh, I'm playing Order on Azazel too. Almost insta-queues for scenarios but we'll have to wait and see what kind of effect they'll have on world RvR.

i know when i played aoc they were kos for alot of guilds on deathwhisper and they tried to make a truce to the server on the server forums cause im sure they were getting sick of getting pk'd. maybe they think the same thing would happen on a open rvr server.

offensive????

Its treating people like bratty little kids by forcing them to scroll to the bottom of a EULA and a Code of Conduct every single time they open the app. Sure it takes 5 seconds, but some people really hate this type of stuff.

So when you guys go to play this game, do you keep getting patch updates and then you have to keep agreeing to the terms? Every darn time I login they update something! It's getting quite annoying agreeing to that thing every time I want to play :(

Well its a good thing that they keep patching the game. When AoC launched they had a series of fairly massive patches twice a week. That was painful. A lot of the WAR fixes since the Stress weekend have been small .exe patches for like 3MB. Ill take that every day over downloading 400MB chunks :p

For the EULA and Code of Conduct, just going to have to wait and see how long you need to keep clicking through those after the full launch.

no, the game doesn't launch untill tommorow and the website will not accept retail keys untill then. It keeps people who managed to get a copy before realease date form playing early.

Only people who pre-ordered and recieved a headstart key can play right now.

Sometimes i think I'm the only person in the gaming world that hates MMORPG. I mean multiplayer is all well and good but jesus you have to pay $50 for a game and then $20 a month to play it!? But i do agree that the trailer for this game looks fantastic.

Well $15/month. And that's for the servers and bandwidth and free content patches.

An FPS server can be run on an old computer in your closest. MMO's are very different.

I'm also on Azazel order.

I'm also on Azazel order.

I thought I had worded that oddly. Anyway what I meant was that I'm Destruction, and they are also Destruction, so I won't be getting ganked by them.

Azazel looks to be shaping up well despite the goons, there's a few solid guilds on there for both sides. I'm flying solo at the moment although I'm grouping with a few local guys.
