Warhammer Online Thread!

I ended up cancelling my pre-order. I decided that getting a Springfield XD in .45 ACP was far better then this game would be.

Well, I finally got into the pre-order beta after wiping my system and re-downloading the beta client.
My Impressions:

Killing Spiders:
The spiders are of equal size to the spiders in WOW. Similar attacks and drops too. I hate spiders.

Killing Boars:
Anyone who level grinds on boars knows a good boar is important. War has boars just like WOW.

Killing skeletons:
The skeletons are bonier than WOW. IMHO.

Level up DING effect:
When leveling up there is a tremendous clanging of axes on shields while you are bathed in the "Just leveled glow". This is way better than WOW.

Well that is it in a nutshell. Weeee!

After playing this for 4 hours I got back on WOW and I think I hate them both.

I've been really enjoying the head start, my and my firned spent all day yesterday just doing scenarios and world RvR and hit lv 8 so its more than viable to level in just PvP (even got a few green/blue drops from looting dead player bodies) not to mention the money im making from rvr quests and scavenging the bodies afetr words.

The more I've played the more I've like the game. WoW is going to sit dormant for a while while I focus on WAR. I can see WAR as requiring less time and being more fun instead of spending hours working on raids.

IMO, the game is much more fun if you pvp to level :)

Yea, I have the same experience. I played during closed beta, open beta, and now head start and this game keeps getting better and better.

I cancelled my WoW subscription. Until further notice, WAR is my one and only MMO. :D

So far the RVR scenarios feel like Team Fortress 2, but in MMO fantasy form. Which is to say fast paced and lots of fun.

Just playing a couple of hours a night, how long do you think it will take to reach max lvl with a mix of PVP/PVE?

I was having so much trouble leveling early on cause the level of the mobs would jump fairly quickly compared to mine. I finally figured out that you're supposed to do scenarios for some exp to fill in the gaps. I'm only level 8 on my Engineer cause I spent the better part of the day leveling a Squig Herder to 8 before I realized what a steaming pile of dog doo-doo that class is. No offense to you SH players out there; you got more patience than I do.

It's pretty quick to level if you load up on all available quests and complete them in bunches, or if you just hang out in scenarios and do fairly well. Exp off individual mobs seems pretty low, I can't imagine just sitting and killing them to level up in this game.

Oh man, I wish I could do the same, but the People's Republic of Massachusetts tells me that these are "unsafe". (Draconian drop-safety rules that are unclear at best). Thankfully I already had a "pre-ban" HK USP 45. :D

I am actually still undecided on WAR...

200-250 hours to hit level 40 would be my guess. The real challenge is Renown Rank.

Reading from experienced elder testers, it should take 6-8 months to hit RR80 if you PVP 10 hours a day everyday. 1 year for average hardcore PVPers. 1.5 - 2 years for casual players. That's the estimate so far anyways.

Rank 80 will take awhile to hit no matter how much you play.

Yeah, I am bummed I didn't get a chance to do more. The pvp battles did look really cool.
I spectated from a hill and watched one.

I suspect I will defer on renewing WOW and try this for a month.

I may not though. I am a bit tired of MMORPGs right now...and for me that means...GUILD WARS!!!

Maybe not. Maybe play some TF2

My only concern is how much can I PVP for end game before it becomes boring to me. The one thing WoW has going for it is the PVE content is changed up by additions...is WAR goign to be able to do the same with PVP?

Well, they have 4 more cities to put back in as well as the 4 classes they removed for release, and who knows how many more lands, continents and races/classes are left to be added from the Warhammer fantasy setting? (I'm betting lots).

Now, can they do this in a way, manner and time line to hold their player base? That remains to be seen.

So what is the goal for this game ? Sure, I can PVP, but why? Am I goign to change the world? Will I get dramatically better gear than other people? Will I be able to stand out amongst the crowd or will I be just another person?

All things considered, Blizzard did not intro a lot of content for Burning Crusade. Unless people were into mid -> high end 25 man raids, all Blizzard added was Zul Aman 10 man (which is too hard for the gear level it was originally supposed to be tuned to) and Magister's Terrace 5 man. Thats it. What they did do was to keep introducing more gear without content, and easier ways to get that gear. Most of the replay value many people find was in PVP which still gets gear and is dynamic and very different everytime you do it.

And for people in 25 man raiding guilds, its mostly doing the same shit over and over. My guild first killed Illidan in December of last year. So I do believe I've been to 30+ full clears of BT since then, and I can tell you right now that instance isn't exactly changing as we go into our 9th month... So from last December until Sunwell came out, we just famed BT... Then when Sunwell came out, we spent about 20 hours a week in Sunwell.

I would be shocked is Mythic introduced content slower than Blizzard, its almost impossible.

Yes to all of the above.

You get influence from public quests that you can use to buy stuff. Even if you don't finish the quest. If course if you do there are more rewards from that.

Then you have scenerio and world PvP quests that level both XP and renknown. Which can also be used to buy stuff. You can level entirely from PvP if you wish. Or entirely from PvE. Though most will do a mix of both. And warhammer does a great job of making it all seamless.

Don't forget the keep sieges with your guild. And battlekeep sieging. Once taken your guild banner will fly from the ramparts. Then there is city sieging. And don't forget the instanced dungeons and raids you are used to. There are also open world dungeons.

And every single thing you do contributes victory points to your realm so your faction can control it. And eventually control all zones and siege the enemy city, unlocking more content for you to do in thier city. And loot it.

You can also level your guild unlocking new features. Don't forget guild halls.

Do you need a reason to PvP? That is the question.

The game is based on PvP and PvE is currently the secondary objective to the game. If you played DAoC you will know what the game will be like in regards to PvE and PvP.

What is the goal of any game? Win, reset, repeat. The only real point is to keep you mildly OCD and paying $15 a month to repeatedly mash buttons 1-2-3. There certainly isn't a point to WoW, and yet here I am still playing, still trying to kill the tiresome orator that is Illidan (and I thought Kael'thas was bad... at least he was entertaining).

WAR has a pretty novel idea of building up its capital cities (the city has levels), waging a tiered war to to reach, fight and ultimately sack and kill the king of your opposing factions city. Of course this is not persistent, it will like everything after a time period be reset, so both sides can again wage war and have another go at each other.

Not to be a party pooper -- But my fear is that the novelty of this (Siege an enemy's town) will fade rather quickly. You can only find the experience so awe-inspiring so many times. For example, as you mentioned trying to kill Illidian. The first time around that whole settings, feel, dialogue is all bad-ass. The 3rd or 4th not so much. Same goes with PvP, AV was cool once -- not so much anymore.

For me this holds true with other MMO's. Guild Wars PvP has a similar concept, your guild buys a guild hall and others can challenge you and the two guilds fight etc. Unlike WAR there is no loot to be had from this, just good fun. But that only stayed fun for a short time as well. I would even say the same happened with my experience with AoC, PvP at first was pretty interesting then wore off into same old same old.

I suppose what I am getting at is: I really hope that siege of the Orders/Chaos/GreenSkins etc halls/guilds/buildings won't get repetitive and boring. Yes, human interaction makes it different each time, but honestly I don't think it will make it *much* different. Here's to hoping!

I am just sad I didn't get more time to try different classes. Thats because I am so bad at leveling! :D Made two characters in that entire open-beta time. Will have to keep trying others. Rune Priest looks fun. :)

Should be noted you can get blue (epic?) item drops off players. That in itself is a good incentive to keep PvPing and skipping most of the PvE faggotry.

item colours is the same as WoW's

white = common
green = un-common
blue = rare
purple = epic

and yes you can, I looted a blue sorc staff last night in the T1 scenario as well as a very nice green cape and shoulders for my marauder and a shammy green staff all in 1 night from T1 scenarios only.

I probably worded that incorrectly. I meant to say I've gotten rare blues off players couple times but have yet to see purple epics which is what I was unsure of. I know the color scheme well.

hehe I see, still the colour chart will help other out im sure lol

I like the rates for it. I noticed its alot higher in the Scenarios then RvR but that could just be me. I hope they don't nerf the drop rates.

Well DAoC RvR kept me greatly entertained for 3 years or so and Shadowbane kept me entertained for a year, so I don't mind some large scale PvP. A great PvP game will keep me entertained long enough to get my monies worth out of it.

Does anyone know what time the headstart begins tomorrow? I assume its 7 a.m. eastern like the SE Headstart?

I cant get into my account anymore...Authentication Failed...Well it was fun the other day when I had time to play but I need to play with some [H] members!

I knew that by the time I was able to download the open beta and install it I'd get to play a few h orus and it would be over :( Oh well...Starting over soon anyways

There's already a level 17 guy in my guild and we asked him WTF has he been doing. Apparently, he only got up once to go get some food. Wow. He'll probably be the first one to get bored but seeing how he leveled to 20 in beta when there was a cap (and we were getting deleted anyway), who knows?

The rest of us are around level 10 and I'm close to 13. The game does have some bugs but most of them are minor and server stability has been pretty good for the most part with only a few zone crashes. They usually come right back up though if they go down. Good times.

Played from about 6pm to about 1am last night, just got in from work and took my time leveling and reading the lore which I was skipping during open beta so I could test out as many characters as possible.

Warrior priest is cool, you can sort of tank with him as he has some good gear and a nice heavy hammer, and fire off some really good heals. I reached level 9 and have my first morale ability which is an instant heal for ~550HP which is about 1/2 health at this level :D

I've done a bit of everything, PvE, PQ, RvR, Scenarios, it's incredibly varied and fun!

Aw shiet.. here we go, SE headstart.. lets rock! :D

(even tho i preordered a CE.. but those dumbfuck gamestop retards gave me a SE headstart code :rolleyes: )

I've been playing a warrior priest and in my last few tier 1 scenarios before I hit level 12, I was an absolute machine. :D I still have to wonder why witch elves even try to solo me. I normally stand there a bit, let them get some hits in, then I pound them into the ground. :D
