Warhammer Online Thread!

Seeing progress is part of what makes it fun, whether that be through leveling, aquireing new items, armor etc.

Why is that no matter what the game is people that love it try and convince people that dont how wrong they are. To me the game is slow, mind numbingly slow, combat is sluggish etc.

I dont like it I gave MY opinion. I'm glad people do like it, I hope enough people like it to give WoW some competition.

Because your opinion is mistaken. You said after an hour you hit level 2. Anyone can get much furthur than that without even trying. Which is why your posts seem to be trolling. It sounds as if you haven't even played.

Like I said, I got 5 levels and another 4 levels of renknown in an hour of just playing the game. Got of bunch of tome unlocks, earned a number of titles, did some PvP. All in an hour.

I play for a sense of accomplishment and I feel that even without caring about leveling.

For those of you who say leveling is slow, remember max level is 40, not 70 or 80. You will reach max level in WAR faster than WOW. Renown to 80 is another story all together, that is something you will have to earn.

For those of you who say graphics are better in WoW, what game are you looking at? Check this for a comparison, and remember all artwork from WoW is stolen from WAR.

Great find. I still don't get how people can say wow's graphics are better.

Agreed, i went from level 1 Sunday morning to level 15 when i stopped late last night. i am currently sitting at RR 14 and i keep going strong. This game is easy to level in, you just need to do quests in between RVR rounds. That is all i have been doing. Also..finish all of the quests in an area, especially chain quests, i have noticed that as you go up the chain, the xp gets greater and greater, and it shows you on the map where to go for the quest...Also...try some PQ they also do a good job of leveling you quickly, and with a "group" of sorts.

how can an opinion be mistaken? It's an OPINION

An opinion is a person's ideas and thoughts towards something which it is either impossible to verify the truth of, or the truth of which is thought unimportant to the person. An opinion is not a fact, because opinions are either not falsifiable, or the opinion has not been proven or verified. If it later becomes proven or verified, it is no longer an opinion, but a fact.

.I guess i have to prove to you that I did in fact play for my OPINION to be valid. I played a dwarf, the first quest i got was to go kill some mobs that looked like frogs on meth, seconf quest was to find a book on a bench "somewhere nearby", lets see, there was also a quest where i had to fight my way into a mineshaft and blow it up, one to take injured soldiers some booze, one to collect cannonballs, one to use the cannon to kill greenskins (the zoom/scope on this was pretty cool) one to collect firebarley or something like that out of a mining car.....do i need to go on ?

There is nothing to "get." As its all personal opinion. I think WoW is a better looking game, which many find me odd for. For me, I feel that WoW's graphics and art style feel much more cohesive in the grand scheme and "flows" better. As I mentioned in my post a few pages back, for me, the artistic style in WAR and AoC leans towards realism which is hard to achieve; and because you have a human that is supposed to LOOK like a true human, you tend to want it to look, well, realistic. Whereas I feel in WoW, you have a human, that is purposely exaggerated so you can dismiss the fact that there may be oddities and chalk that up to art style.

/Shrug. WAR is Fun, WoW is Fun. Both are MMO's. WAR will be a success to lots and other will pass on it, just like every other game.

@Archer75:

I found my leveling experience slow as well though. Took me about 2 hours to get to level 3, which I found quite odd. That's not to say I am mad, or find it bad. I just found it odd when I compare it to my leveling in other games, which seems much faster through the initial levels.

You also have to account in the equation of how WoW's max level is much higher than WARs, etc. Although it still is pretty slow :p.

Aye, exactly. Which is why I am not upset by it, or anything to that nature. Its just different and that is perfectly fine.

I spent 4-5 hours last night on the Ekrund server and had a blast as a DoK. I've been playing Eve the the past year so coming into a traditional MMO was quite the experience.

I hit level 7 in that time and almost finished the Dark Elves starter zone. My favorite part has been the player quests and the mission variety. There were some nice twists and turns that I didn't expect like a botched poison attempt to planting evidence to clear your name.

I'll keep playing and if anyone wants to party up my player name is Melkore.

I gotta admit, I'm pleasantly surprised. When I heard they were scaling back the world I didn't expect the game to be as polished as it is. Polish is what was sorely lacking from games like Pirates of the Burning Seas, Age of Conan, and Tabula Rasas when I tried them.

I too feel leveling seems a bit slow at lower levels, but hey it could speed up at later levels.

and do NPCs move now or continue to stand in one spot until you attack them?

Beta Build Notes: 09/08/2008

Bug Fixes and Updates

* Comprehensive polish pass over career combat animations across all races.

* Monsters will now chase players properly.

* Monsters and pets will now respond more quickly when attacked.

* Corpses will no longer sparkle if you do not have the right to loot them.

* Players are now able to properly respawn in scenarios.

* Public Quests now correctly display the time remaining in a stage.

then perhaps MMO's aren't for you. I don't understand how you can level soooo slow when most can do it without even trying and get far more done. So you've played one starting area and are already whining? Talk to the librarian, the kill collector, get your XP from them. Try another area. Do some RvR. You can click the icon right there on your minimap to queue up. Get in on a public quest. Mix it up.

I did those same quests as a dwarf engineer and had level 3 in about 30 minutes.

Like I said before I've been playing MMO's since EQ1 beta. I'm not "whining" hell, i'm not even bashing the game. Some people will like it some wont. Just like some people like anchovies on their pizza and some dont. It doesnt matter if YOU like anchovies, I never will. Maybe you just choose to ignore the other people that have stated the exact same thing I did.

The game is slow IMO. I'm not quite sure what part of "in my opinion" you dont understand. This game is not for me, I already said that. I also already said I'm glad people like it and I hope it does well.

I stopped playing the beta after taking a few characters to lvl 7ish. Tried a few classes. I really really like the game. I didnt feel like i was even paying attention to what level i was, although I am sure i will later on. I enjoyed the game too much to play any characters higher to avoid having to redo everything once the early release opens up.

So what day exactly is the early opening supposed to be?

The EU partners GoA have messed up the EU launch, it's a total shambles, people STILL cannot make accounts and those of us with account have only been able to register keys for the last few hours, those of us that have managed to get the key reg to work through the 100's of errors, still have no recieved validation emails and cant use the patcher.

Biggest screw up ever, looks like it will be 48+ hours before the majorety even get access to patch the game, much less play.

This is funny the WoW fanboys are starting to blantly troll this thread. WAR> WoW plain and simple... I wouldnt be suprised if 20% of WoWs subcription base goes to WAR.

Meh. Every game has their diehard fanboys which is sad all around. I know people like to justifying their purchases (see PS3 vs 360 threads) but at the end of the day, who cares besides the people raking in all the money? I get bored at work fairly often and the Age of Conan boards are a great place to see the death of Mythic and Warhammer Online. Truely funny stuff over there.

Not sure about that. Both games bring two different things.

One thing that really troubles me is the squishiness of casters vs. melee. I was fighting a swordbreaker or w/e and even being able to nuke him from far away i didn't get him below 50%, but once he got ontop of me my health just dropped.

You can't slow them either and have to stand to cast. Even instant casts you have to stand still for. It just seems a little imbalanced imo.

how is this game slow? within 45 minutes of signing in for the first time, i was in the middle of a battle with like 20 other people trying to kill a huge ass dragon.

I noticed this as well. I was playing a Chaos Zealot and would die pretty quickly to melee, even with HOTs and running around healing myself, while dps tries to protect me. For insta-cast heals, I could cast them running.

Then I rolled a Dark Elf Witch - hot damn this class is fun! I could close down fast on casters and kill them relatively quickly. This will be a very popular class.

I found the leveling on the Zealot to be a bit slow at first, hard to tag mobs before melee hits them at times really sucked. Doing the public quests was great fun. Doing pvp I found that waiting until you are level 4 makes a huge difference. The extra talents definitely make a difference.

I found leveling the Dark Elf to be very easy much faster. Again wait until level 4 to pvp as the extra talents will boost dps.

I love killing you witch elves as my warrior priest. Not saying you in particular do this but a lot of witch elves seem to think they can gank everyone. I usually /taunt and /laugh at them as I beat them down. Armor near tank levels PLUS heals? Yeah, keep on trying to kill me. Good times :)

Oh I learned (the hard way...repeatedly) not to mess with that class solo. ;) I earned the Title "Snuffed" from dieing to one of those guys repeatedly. I was playing defense so I had to take it.

EDIT: Playing on Darklands Character name Zoobaby and Freeloader.

Warrior priests are pretty tough even for my Chosen.
I like smacking Ironbreakers around though. And all those elves. I hate elves.

I agree, leveling seems very fast. I thought the graphics looked pretty good in WAR, that comparison proves what a night and day difference there is.

Maybe people that think it looks bad have their graphic settings turned down?

they have improved the graphics alot since closed beta/ first PW

I started up the second PW and was blown away by how much better it looked, I then forced 8x aa/af and it looked awsome, veyr happy with it now.

The WoW fanboys are probably people that have just invested a lot of time in the game, and see an expansion right around the corner. Perhaps they are also the people who enjoy pve over pvp, or don't see that many changes in War worth quitting WoW over, shrug. Personally I play quite a bit of WoW right now, and this game looks pretty damn cool. WoW has been the only mmo to keep my interest since EQ1 but I don't think it's the last game worth playing ever.

I have about 3 co-workers that all play WoW, and only 1 is willing to give war a shot. The other 2 exact reason?

" prefer PvE over PvP and Already have lots of time invested in WoW" Which i think is a completly honest and smart reason. You have to admit WAR looks as if its 90% PvP drivin and turns off alot of PvE players.

I actually just sold one of them my WoW: Wrath of litch king open beta invite for $50 so im happy, I was just going to let it sit there and rot anyways lol.

It does look that way.
But the truth is you can PvE to level cap. Even when your side sieges and enemy city and takes it, it unlocks PvE content in that enemy city.
And the PvE content that you do also contributes to your realm. So even if you don't PvP at all you still have plenty of content and contribute in alot of ways. PvE'ers are always welcome.

I also look at PvP as PvE with a better AI(in most cases)

I have alot of time invested in WoW too. But that's the nature of MMO's. However if you cancel your WoW account your characters are still there. They aren't deleted and you can come back later.
I know my hardcore WoW friends, hardcore raiders, are walking away from WoW to go to War. They said they are having more fun in War than in WoW and all they've done is PvE.
And i'm sure we'll get bored at some point and go back to WoW for 10 more levels, then i'll come back to War. I bounce around games alot.

I'll have to say Mythic did an almost sneaky job in getting people to like PvP/RvR. Several people in the WAR guild I'm in absolutely hated PvP before they played WAR. Hell, I'll admit I haven't really liked it that much either. I'm more of the type of person that hates getting ganked and having to constantly look over my shoulder all the time.

That being said we are finding we like RvR just as much as the PvE. I think more WoW players should make the jump so I can have some easier targets to kill. ;) :D

I think the time invested excuse is decent enough, however with the release of WotLK coming up, people who spent just enough time to get to 70 and people with 2000+ hours played at 70 will be on almost the exact same footing. Sure the person with 2000+ hours likely has more experience with various situations and better gear, however the person who just barely got to 70 will not be too far behind for gear upgrades and such.

My wife and I got in this weekend. She's always been PvE over PvP RvR etc... She's loving PvE. Says it's toooo easy with the map telling you EXACTLY where to go and what to do. My point to her was it's nothing you couldn't have figured out on your own in 5-10 min anyway. Plus we've done some RvR scenarios and she's loving it waaaaaaaay more than BG's or Arena's from WoW.

Plus we both think the public quest helps alleviate a TON of the normal questing grinding and leveling.

This is all coming from a woman who would yell at me for choosing a PvP server whenever she got ganked lol.

She got her beta key for WOTLK also last weekend as well. To be honest she tried a DK and ran around some new areas but she tells me it's the same game different scenery. Also wishes her flying mount would work in the new area as well.

Long story short. If WAR stays this good for us we've already decided to cancel WoW.

I don't think it's so much a matter of being on top as much as it is a matter of them already having a character they have invested that much time in. I've barely raided at 70 but I'm still reluctant to give my char up, we've had many a good time!

Graphics seem fine to me. They arn't fantastic, but the atmosphere is pretty good. They could clean up movement and animations a bit.

Also with 8x adaptive AA and 16x AF forced -- well it just looks loads better.

Well I just got back home and noticed my beta key was sent to me.

Now I'm waiting in ques for my download spot... File Planet wait time is 17 hours!
