i was one of the ce preorders that got to play a week before preview weekend, probably one of the best mmo i played, where the classes are balanced not for 1v1 pvp, but massive rvr

i've played the shaman in open and close beta and i haven't had more fun than this, and will play shaman again in the live game

for running the game, you can see my sig, gets a slight lag in large pop area, but i think that's traffic and not load

The more I read about this game the more excited I get, it sounds like a perfect mix between WoW and planetside, where you have a much larger goal of crushing the enemy, but loads of other cool stuff on the way.

i was a planetside beta tester and junkie till they started with the underground caves and alien weps then i stopped liking it and quit
 
If you don't mind take a look at the processes tab in Task Manager while the game is running, it should tell you if it's a true 64 bit executable or not. Been planning to go Vista x64 for a while (don't need Glider anymore) and if WAR is 64bit then I'm there.

I just checked and it's showing up as 32bit. But I suggest running 64bit vista anyways. I have both 32bit and 64bit machines and the 64bit vista machine is faster and more stable. More robust overall.
Even if the game isn't 64bit the OS is and the improved memory management of 64bit does make a difference.

Thanks for checking. I know all about 64bit, I ran XP x64 for two years without any issues and loved it. Last reformat I had to go with Vista x86 because I needed Glider to work but I don't play WoW anymore (hence my interest in Warhammer) so Vista x64 will be installed very soon.

Flash works for me. Surfing the web in firefox, any flash website works.

How'd you get flash to work with the 64bit browser? Whenever I try to view videos on youtube it says you must install the flash player. Then when I go to apple to download it, it says we do not currently support 64bit etc.

Never once had a problem viewing flash on Vista 64bit, so can't help you there on how I got it to work. It just does.

I'm also going Order, and looking for a guild. Also are you going Open rule set; I've heard it's almost pointless to do so.
 
I'm probably going Order now and rolling on an Open server. There's no real point to Open servers right now but they're working on it. Besides it's always nice to have more pvp options available than not.

but i guess we will see when the game finally hits live ;) we have a backup plan that if the destruction side has more players than order, we will reroll order

Core combat addon really screwed planetside, making areas important to the overall battle only accessable to a few with the addon, I think if WAR is to continue to do well they should avoid expansions where possible.
 
In the preview weekend, Destruction greatly outnumbered Order. Now I see that everyone wants to roll Order to be on the less played side. There may be a flip of which side has more numbers at launch, or at least they may be even.
 
We are rolling on an Open server, I'm sure this will mean something eventually.

Well my only question about those open servers is if they have the chicken/bolster mechanic in on the non-pvp zones. It doesn't make sense to enable bolster, but if the chicken mechanic is still in place then I guess it'll eliminate ganking. You however won't be able to take your high level into low level zones to look around either if it's in place....

So something to think about since I haven't seen any information on that yet, and I can't stand ganking but it'd suck to be limited on where you go.
 
I dont think you would be limited on where you can go. Just dont enable your pvp flag by attacking someone.

From most polls on ign and warhammeralliance, destruction looks to be about 3x the population of order and after seeing the PW I'd be inclined to agree with that atm.

From what I read about the open servers it clearly stated you were PVP flagged in normal PVE zones. Which to me reads that you are constantly PVP flagged unlike in the preview where you had to enter a RvR zone or click on the flag to flag yourself.

in cb it was about 2:1 destruction to order as well, but a few guilds i know are playing destruction until live so they can learn how destruction works during a rvr battle

Don't use a 64bit browser. The only one I know of is IE7 and you should really be using firefox instead.

I didn't watch the interview, but preventing players from joining the server for any reason other than overpopulation that is causing lag/hardware failure is a really fucking stupid idea.

I'd be really pissed if I couldn't logon on my char cause of that reason... heck I'd be pissed if I couldn't logon period.
 
I think the only bonus being to level faster isn't going to help with the RvR war, if on average the side with the lower number of players are all higher levels, how is that helpful? You get turned into a chicken when going back into lower RvR areas. Besides once a decent portion of the population reaches level 40 this is going to be largely a moot point, especially considering the auto balance thats done to make level 5's fighting level 12's is not as harsh. Moreover the time frame is acts over is long term, it wont help if theres a pop imblance one night and it has a permenant effect as well which hardly seems fair if the gap was only a temp one.

They've not thought that one through very well.
 
Personally i dont know how much this is going to come into play, the latest stats of what people want to play is starting to balance out more and more

As stated in many places most of the people who play very hardcore are the same kind of people who would play evil classes and join heavy beta testing. Once more of the carebears start showing up i think it will end up just like wow, more order (alliance) than destro (horde). personally i could care less but i do agree that is there is a huge stratification in population and i am paying to play and cant get on there is going to be some problems....
 
I fully support this. In a RvR game population balance must be maintained so one side doesn't get steam rolled.

I'm sure they will work to balance out the servers during character creation so that you don't get alot of one side on one server.
It wouldn't be any fun for anyone if you log on and find you are one of 500 order against 1700 destruction. You'll get ganked wherever you go. It wouldn't make sense for an RvR game.
The servers must absolutely be balanced. People may find that they can't get on when they want to play and will change servers. I imagine a month after release when everyone who bought it decides they want to stay the balance will have worked itself out. Free character transfers will help this.

I am going to side with Vorret that it does not make scene to do this kind of limitation, it was not there in DAOC and i doubt it will come into major play in this game. Yes balance is important, but it can not be expected and when client, ie us are paying to play a game they need to realize that there is some imbalance as to why people choose one option over another. I do think that it will balance out, maybe not right away but it will come to a close to even ground.
 
No way are they going to impose faction limitations on a server. It's an MMO and people like to play with their friends. I don't think any dev would be so short-sighted as to go about balancing in this manner as they'll lose tons of subscribers if people can't join their buddies on the same faction/server.

Either they'll put in a queue system which is still a bad idea at best or by putting in NPCs to help out. Due to the nature of the game being RvR, I'd assume it's pretty easy to calculate how many people each side has in a particular scenario and just spawn some NPC guards to help even the odds if they're completely skewed. Sure NPCs can be stupid and chase after the wrong targets but it's better than nothing and still helps out the underdogs. Shorter spawn times or a closer spawn would work too. As for world pvp, you're outta luck but that's not the focus of the game.

It makes perfect sense. How else would maintain server balance? If you have an idea i'd like to know.
Would you want to be outnumbered by the opposing faction 10 to 1? You'd have an RvR game with one side losing consistantly because they are simply outnumbered. You'd have scenerios you can't play because there are simply not enough people. How is that fun? Sure, now you can play with a friend but there's either no one to fight or you are getting whipped because it's the 2 of you against 20.

As for world pvp, you're outta luck but that's not the focus of the game.
That is exactly the focus of the game. City capture, battlekeeps. It's all world PvP.

Yes, you could spawn NPCs. But an NPC is no where near the same as a real player. AI technology simply isn't there yet.

maybe 10-8 and that just makes thing more interesting.

you're the only one who's on the other side of the fence... maybe you don't care cause you'll only solo but for people with a life who wants to play when they can play and not have to wait or even worse not be able to create a char is completly retarded.

if they make it that way there's ALOt of people who won't buy the game simply because of the fear they won't be able to play with their friend or login when they come back from work/school... heck, I know I won't.
