Its not Venice.
duh. its a san diego.

my comment was regarding the (wrong) listing of 512kb cache... Venice has a box code of BP. this has a BN. looks like san diego and venice will be shipping at the same time.

edit: ADA3700DAA5BN

D= Lidded 939
AA= ??
5= 1mb
BN= San Diego E4

Monarch is wrong, and im considering preordering one...

say hello to the future Nurse MaMMa  (new major)
nurse eh? that should be exciting.. i'm a mechanical engineer in training, so hopefully i can use that torawrds... something useful :D

and i just checked the egg. don't see anything suspiscious there yet... but then again, it's not friday yet. nor monday. and i've been saying friday for launch and monday for retail for a while now :D

Either way, I'm hopefully going to have one in my hands middle of next week...Friday would be nice though so we don't have to spaz over the weekend and can get back to gossiping about "wow dude Venice is going to kick so much ass" instead of "omg due wtf where are our chips?!?!!!" :D

link

Just posted this elsewhere on a much less viewed thread, news article about dual core release dates.

the link to the 3700+ @ Monarch

It say it's 90nm Rev E, so yeah, it's a San Diego core, but at least they tell us it's shipping May 6th. So thats good news.

not a bad price for it either, $329 for a 3700+ SD core? I might get me that instead of a Venice.

according to Monarch's site, only the 3800+ will be avail on April 22, everything else looks like May 6th :(

Hope that date gets bumped up, but I wouldn't expect it to

yeah, thats where i am... if i sell my 3200 winchester on ebay, the upgrade should only cost me ~140 bucks, and then ill have san diego with 1mb L2 :D and a 2.2ghz stock clock i believe

It's really purty and y'all are so tempting me towards SD instead of V, but I really don't like that "May" bit...

oh come on - the winchester can hold out for a little while longer... would you rather have a 2.9ghz venice with 512, or a 2.9ghz sandiego with 1mb? :p

what confuses me is the 3700+ SD has 64 bit mem controller
the 3800+ and the 3500+ venices have a 128 bit mem controller
Also notice that the bus speed of the venices is faster then the SD... Or so says monarch
Sure Sandiego has the 1mb L2 vs Venice 512kb but what effect will the memcontroller and bus speed have on making the decsion between

3500+ Venice
3700+ Sandiego
3800+ Venice

I took my Winnie out to return last night, so I'm without my main rig & all its programs & data until I get a new CPU...makes me a little more anxious than I already was.

I'm still jumping around going "Toledo Toledo Toledo!!" and if those weren't immenant it'd be an easy choice in favor of San Diego. I guess I'll have to see what Newegg has available next week.

what ! 3700 san diego only has 64bit mem controller? That sux !
and which website say 3700 is san diego with correct spec beside monarch (monarch spec is not correct i think) ?

Should I take the plunge and order off Monarch? or wait to see if newegg can get it faster?
If I do order through Monarch do they charge your credit card right away or wait until shipping, so if I cancel the order it is not a problem.

that doesnt make any sense, why would it have a 64bit mem controller instead of 128??? I'll have to do a little digging on AMD's site to see what I can see.

Based on the info from AMD, the Roadmap, release notes/details/etc..

I think the best Venice deal $ for $ is gonna be the 3200+
for the SD core I think $ for $ it's gonna be the 3700+

BUT

we have yet to see what the new SD FX is capable of, that should be really interesting to see.

For me since I'm building an AMD64 system from scratch, this May 6 just gives me more time to get the components I want the first time around & watch out for the best deals. But still, May 6, ugh, that sucks. Could be worse tho.

Well I almost did it, then cancelled at the last second because I dont want to wait 3 weeks to get my freakin CPU. Does anyone know if newegg will have it sooner?

ALL 939 CHIPS HAVE A 128BIT, DUAL CHANNEL MEMORY CONTROLLER

ok, thought i'd get that out of the way.
good news. Newark has been claimed in the form of a $336 2.4ghz, 1mb mobile.. for now. i wouldn't be surprised if we get more :D

i would like to draw attention to post #820 :D

just thought i'd clear up some apparent confusion.

lithium: i dunno what the new AA stands for in place of the DIK we had before.. i remember reading that some cores would be rated for 1.35 while others are 1.4v.. similar to what intel does. i saw one heatspreader that was actually labled 1.35v.. but i don't know how you would tell the difference otherwise.

tell me a little bit about this newark... its a DTR mobile chip right?? so would that also mean theres a bit more of an overhead and oc potential out of that chip?? how do they compare with the SD cores then? from what you said, seems like the newark has a bump up in 200mhz.

your a posting freak.

The sad part is frequently I'm stuck saying the same things over and fricking over...ought to be like MIRC where I can just hit a button for crap like that.

if my theory is right, they are similar to the mobile clawhammers, but using the san diego core instead.

basically what this means is that the best dies will be culled out, then binned to a slower speed and voltage to make the thermal cut (not sure, but i think it'll be 50-55w).
think of the mobile bartons. like that.. but with an a 90nm a64 ;)

ash: i feel your pain.

edit: just fired this off to newegg. probably not the best wording, but it'll work ;)
Hey,
I would like to call this to your attention:
http://www.amd.com/us-en/Corporate/VirtualPressRoom/0,,51_104_543~96667,00.html

Do you know when that processor will be availible for purchase in your store? If not, can you put me in contect with someone in the purchasing department so I can find out from him/her when Newegg will order this product, thus I can appoximate the ETA?

Thank you,
Mark Ozimek

hopefully i'll have a reply by tomorrow.. i'll let you guys know what it is.

well that solves that lol...

However monarch also claimed they had diffrent bus speeds... any signifigance between 2000 and 1600 bus or .... is that another misprint

Maybee eclipse can shed some more eloquent Wisdom upon us ;) or at least me

i dont know anything about the bartons actually. i was what you would say "away from the scene" during this time. when i picked up my 1700+, i left and never came back until now (not the forums i mean), when i am building a new system. so if it wont trouble you too much, i would like to know more.

I just about made the move for the Monarch preorder; however, with computer parts, the best policy is just to WAIT a little and a better, faster or cheaper deal ALWAYS comes down the pike. ;)

specialist: gotcha, basically the mobile bartons were normal desktop chips that were carefully binned to tun at 1.25v or 1.45v as opposed to the normal 1.65v of the desktop chip.
what this meant was that once the voltage was bumped back to the normal 1.65.. there was a lot of clock headroom. basically the oc'er dream :D

solo: there's no significant difference between 1600 (800mhz) and 2000 (1000mhz). maybe 0.1-0.5% difference at most in a synthetic benchmark ;)
however, are you comparing s754 and s939 chips? i don't know of any s939 chips with the 800mhz ht link, other than an obscure 3400+ that was sold for about a week.

no i was looking on monarch at the rev E 3700+, 3500+ and 3800+

I believe the 3700+ has a bus speed of i believe 1600 and the other two had 2000
this was also where i saw the 64 vs 128 bit mem controller issue. I thought it seemed fishy was cause enough for me to wait a while till the truth comes out rather then rush and order something.
Im sure you can get these off monarch but i pulled them for clarity purposes. Notice the system bus and the memcontroller lines are diffrent. Another more incidental thing is only the 3700+ has all the features listed such as Cool and quite and EVP. Just seems funny since i would assume one person probably loaded all of these into there database at the same time.

from my own experience monarch is always allowing you to preorder but you can get them faster once it is released from either newegg, zipzoom or mwave then from monarch

eclipse that was good an all but in your letter you spelt contact wrong. You had it as contect.

looks like someone was lazy and copied and pasted. those are the exact specs for the s754 3700+
the s939 3700+ should be 2.2ghz.. and 90nm ;)

qwertyman: indeed i did. oh well, hopefully the guy will figure out that it's a typo. perhaps i should learn to proof-read things before i send them. hehe

edit: another site with 18th as the ETA
http://www.sparco.com/cgi-bin/wfind2?sparco_part_number=A80G931
slightly inflated too, but all in all, it's not too bad

tehy just copied the description over from teh 754

all 939 chips are 128bit - its part of the 939 architechture

3700+ Rev E
Clock Frequency 2400MHz
System Bus 1600
Operating Mode 32/64
Voltage 1.50V
Max Temp 70'C
Thermal Power 89W
L1 Cache 128KB
L2 Cache 1MB
CMOS Technology 130nm SOI
Virus Protection EVP
Power Savings CnQ
Memory Controller 64-bit
notice : 1600 is for 754
89w TDP is for newcastle
130nm SOI is newcastle /clawhammer
64-bit mem controllers are 754.

they just havent updated that

also, if im not mistaken, the 939 3700+ is 2.2ghz, not 2.4. at 2.4, it would put it ahead of the 3800 in that it would have more cache at the same clockspeed

yup, the 2.4ghz, 1mb, dual channel is actually a real chip...

4000+ ;)
(or fx-53)

but yeah, they definitly just copied it. which is rather depressing, cause it's not too hard to get the things right.

NEED_HELP!! i cant decide if i should preorder the 3700+ san diego for $350 that will ship on the 6th or get the 3800+ venice for $380 that will ship on the april 22nd, or just get the 3500+ venice for alot cheaper and it will be here on the 20th???
