sorry for going a little off topic, but ehh has dfi released a new beta bios or whatever official yet? latest i have was the one sometime in mid march. and ive also heard some rumors about the venice not having to have a bios update, but the san diego will? can anyone confirm if this is still true?

They released one for 3/31. I don't like it at all.

i found this a bit offensive...
Well, it's probably true. Why is it offensive? Are you God or what?

whats wrong with the 3/31 one, and no but its just that its overexaggerating the board's capabilities.

The 3/31, unless someone modified it, is really unstable on my board and only allows for a VDIMM of 3.1v.

And the board has a setting for EVERY ASPECT that can be modified on DDR SD-RAM. I don't see how that's an exaggeration.

actually, the nf3 lacks one thing the nf4 has.. dram signaling strength.
and i'm using the 3/31.. i suppose i should switch back, but i'd never go over 3.1v anyway

i know what the board's capabilities are since i have one myself. yes, the board is insanely tweakable, but comparing it to God was not necessary. what i meant was, its exaggerated because its being named as like a holy thing. thats how i took it.

Oh, then God run's 939. Is 3/31 stable on yours though? If it is then no reason to go back. I just need all the vdimm I can get.

The guy was joking, relax. I have a lot of really really religious Christian friends and even they wouldnt jump up my butt if I made a comparison to god with something like this.

it seems to be, but i never tried any other bios on this board.. just the stupid refurb one

I didn't say it has more settings than GOD (does God come with settings?) I said it has more settings than God's computer, which is possibly also wrong because He might very well have the same motherboard.

no, i think He has the 754 + pci-e mobo that dfi is delaying. computing with a divine touch :D
don't take this literally. please

I bet his board has infinite dimms and his cpu has no memory controller limits

oook... could we stop this thing with God's computer... i mean what use would he have for such an earthly matter? i wasnt going nuts over this matter, just stating my thoughts. im not jumping over anyone either. if possible, can we stop this discussion and continue on with venice or whatever else instead? thanks.

He likes to play Quake on it.

But you're right, it doesn't have much to do with Venice...

Venice is close to Rome and the Pope lived in Rome and God liked the pope so yea its kinda related

LMAO, that was really funny Cell.
Maybe god is a computer? He should be as smart as one.

haha, that was tricky mamma ;)

though i was killing time on bash.org. totally off topic, but i'm sure some of us have done something like this :D
<phx\afk> i spent the past hour doing leet network diagnosis
<phx\afk> i flexed every single last one of my skillz
<Diz> to what end?
<phx\afk> i meditated on the problem
<phx\afk> i consulted the big book of hardware
<phx\afk> i consulted oracles, farseers, nearsighted witches and trolls
<phx\afk> what i shouldve done
<phx\afk> is PLUGGED THE FUCKING NETWORK CABLE INTO THE FUCKING SERVER

i'm expecting dual core to be C.. but we'll see

w00t!!!!!!!!!! Finally, I am so excited. One more week!!!!!
Thank you very much everyone for getting on the retailers about this. I will have to post pics when I am done building.

So It's next week then? Do we have a day? AHHHH SO EXCITING!!! I can't wait...I delayed buying a processor for...a couple or maybe more than a couple months. In retrospect, I should have just waited, would have cost less, or gotten a better system, but can't change it and this one is still going to be awesome. But, they should get stock next week? Monday maybe?

I doubt monday, but that would be cool. Next week is a great week for everyone! You 939'ers are getting your venices next week, and my XP-90C comes next week!

Monday = Saitek Eclipse keyboard
Wednesday = the rest of my cooling crap so I can finally change cases
??? = Venice happiness.

would your name so happen to have anything to do with a carbon fibered mitsu eclipse? sorry if this question was answered 100 times or more.

nope, you're the first person to ask actually.

back at home, a bunch of friends and i stated up a clan. we lived in chadds ford, thus (cf)
and i'm pretty tall.. so i eclipse people *shrug*
its silly.. but that's how it goes ;)

(cf)Eclipse said:
i just don't understand that increase when oc'ing.. it's probably almost double the power draw for the cpu without doubling the speed.

did you factor in the efficiency?

haha, that was random ;)

and yes, i did factor it in.. still seems like way too much... but oh well. i can't argue with what a meter is saying cause it's probably properly calibrated. i'm not sure when the last time i have been calibrated :(

:D

not sure. after figuring in power regulation and the psu, probably around 125-140w
at 2.0, it'll be more like 85-100w. it really depends on the quality of the psu though :(

edit: if i assume 85% for PWM and 70% for the psu, the difference works out.... to be about right
(157w vs 113w)

edit 2: i'm stupid. that's a 44w difference. the rig is showing a 72w difference. continuing calculations
*shrug* unless the psu is a complete piece of shit at 65% efficiency and the board sucks at 70%... that's still only 60w difference, assuming the TDP is at it's max to begin with. most likely is isn't, which will make the difference even smaller.

at the power plug, yeah

the tdp won't change from 67w. i'm assuming worst case scenario, which will exxagerate the difference in power between stock and oc'ed settings

then amd's spec calls for 75% efficiency, but if you think about it, you have a 67w cpu. the power regulation would be burning off 16.8w of power at stock speeds (67w * (100% - 75%))

then bump up the speed to 2.8ghz, and the 67w should scale linerly (or very close to) with mhz, giving 94w.

so now, without taking inefficiencies into account, we have a 27w difference. the PWM is now wasting 23.5w of heat. getting pretty warm

so after pwm, we have 89w and 125w for the psu to feed. now were're up to 36w difference.
in order for that 36w to turn into the 72w difference the test results gave, the psu has to be 50% efficient. i don't think such a thing exists :D
most psu's are around 65-80%, i'll take a moderate one.. 70%
89w is now 127w. this is the total current draw for 2ghz at full load
then 125w becomes 178w.. 2.8ghz

that's a 51w difference. we're missing 21w.. just over 40% off.

edit: it's 5:00am. i need sleep, i'll let you mull over this and try to figure it out. i know you're good with power consumption figures too ;)
i might email the reviewer asking him what's up with the power consumption... that can come after i get some sleep

Your numbers are so wrong

The meter read 106 and 132 watts at idle and load. All the numbers have to add up to be less than that

jesus, you're right. i didn't notice that. whatever. i'll think about it more tomorrow.
though, that means it has to be even more efficient.. which means less of a difference when oc'ing. some something is seriously coming into play here, or else power doesn't scale linearly with mhz anymore..

edit: anyhow, you should still try to figure it out. i don't like doing all the math ;)

I'm new here, but I've been browsing for about half a year. I'm still waiting for that Venice, and from all the information in this thread, it looks like next week will be the Venice release. I pre-ordered on that NCIX site, but if thats true about Monarch, I'll use them and cancel NCIX. Thanks to those that went the extra step

Here's my new PC, all it needs is a Venice 3200+ : http://web.sccoast.net/users/gm0514/pcstuff01.jpg
