well the interesting thing is that power draw at the 12v plug went from 132w to 204w when going from 2.0hz to 2.8ghz at stock speeds.
of course, that's ineficient, and the chip is actually putting out a lot less than that, but a 40% increase in clock yeilded a 54.5% increase in power draw. my assumption is that since when circuits heat up, resistance goes down, thus it draws more current, but that's still interesting.

thats interesting. It doesn't say how they measured it but I think they used the reading from a ups, a reading of the whole system (minus the display)

2.0GHz 1GB X800XT 1 HardDrive

measured 132 watts under load and 106 watts idling

oh man what happened last night! Somone hacked my pw, I swear that wasnt me :)

ANyways, still no Venice :( What will happen today on this thread....

Who knows, but I had strange dreams about MB slots and CPU's last night.... gee thanks guys, lol. But for some reason the RAM was jealous.

I swear, AMD better not make me wait 4 weeks for this. I think we should all ban together, contact newegg including all of our email addresses and ask them to order a round of Venice's for us.

just send them the last few pages of this thread, i think it'll clear everything up

if u want venice so much spring the cash for a ticket and go there. while ur there visit florence and rome as well. make sure to bang an italian chick and post all the photos. make sure a pc is in the background so its "on topic"

oh boy what has the world came to

I can see a change in world history due to this mysterious venice thing

on this great day twenty years ago, an infamous figure, Slamgoku, fought the legendary [H]ardforum for all of twenty three minutes. Their battle was vicious and brutal both sides lost many great leaders. However in the end, Slamgoku stood. Victor, for all to see.

i'm fairly certain that they measured the pwer draw at the 12v plug that powers the cpu...

because if you think about it, cpu power scales linearly with speed. if that's the entire system.. well yeah. the power draw of the cpu has more than doubled rather than just increased somewhere around 40%. but that's just how i'm seeing it. i'll email them asn ask what the testing methods they use are.

freakin hilarious, im on campus in the computer lab right now and people next to me think im insane.

thats good. I would like to see better reviews from all the sites. Less guessing for us and its better for everyone

From what I can tell.... that site is in the UK. Where is AMD HQ at? Crap, we should get our shipment of Venice cores before the UK should.

it's irish iirc

and carnitine, go check it again. the guy updated the review to include how he tested the power consumption. i'm quite surprised at the 54% total power increase with a 40% cpu oc. something strange is going on there.

Cool. That was quick.

That power increase is pretty strange but that method of testing is reliable. Only thing is that it tests the whole system, not just the cpu. I've seen discrepencies when people use other methods to test just the cpu (on several reviews of the Winchester cores)

Still, 132 watts at load is pretty low considering he is using a X800 XT. Shows how everyone doesn't need to upgrade their power supply.

AMD = Sunnyvale, California.

About five miles from me right here in Silicon Valley. I'm first in line.

then why dont you just drive down there and try to talk to them...lol...wait i was serious... :D

remembers argument over power

yeah, that is true though. but if you're going from a newcastle to venice, power consumption will go down.. and winchester to venice should be about the same. i just don't understand that increase when oc'ing.. it's probably almost double the power draw for the cpu without doubling the speed.

also, i'll have to find a way to hook a ammeter in-line to that 12v plug and see if that one plug is really powering the cpu voltage regulation, or if power is being taken from somewhere else too.

NO VENICE STILL, im dieing im tdy in new jersey right now but when i get back if no venice im going to buy a 2800 to hold me over

BOOO!

Dear Mark,

Thank you for contacting Newegg.com.

Unfortunately we do not have ETAs for new items until after we receive the first shipment. Once we receive the initial order, we can more accurately estimate future deliveries. Generally it takes us about 6-8 weeks to receive new merchandise once it has been released to the public, due to the nature of supply and demand. Please continue to check all prices and availability at www.newegg.com for our most up-to-date status.

hopefully that's a worst case scenario.

EXACT same message i got...stupid tech support moron (no offense to tech support guys) frankly i doubt the person who read you email even knows what venice is and the guys at newegg who do know what it is arent answering emails like ours and i doubt even further that they would wait 6-8weeks before stocking them.

Lets hope it does not take that long, I may go postal soon!
It appears that newegg is really trying to sell the old procs with all the promos going on.

GRR! why don't they bring down the prices of the mobile clawhammers then?! :(

edit: just looked. the 3000+ is the only one with a notably lower price.
