Venice rumors here please!

It does once my DFI gets through with it. The only difference is the max divider of 9 or 10 as far as I can see.

I like having 11x, personally. Once I get 11x255 stable, it will be awesome :cool:

But, 10x is plenty for most things on non FX chips.

I've got the cash on hand for an FX chip...I just can't really justify it when the ones going for $150-200 are overclocking so well. Besides which there are more responsible things I should be doing with it... :rolleyes:

Hey, there's no way to find out the code/week/stepping/etc on my Winchester without actually taking the heatsink off, cleaning it off, jotting it down like I forgot to when I got it, reapplying & remounting, etc etc, is there?

yeah, i think a lot of us have that problem. the fx is within grasp, just not justifiable.

and yeah, you need to look at your heatspreader for the week/stepping info. it isn't anywhere else.

I talked to Monarch yesterday. They said the chips were released Monday. They did not know exactly when they would get them, but said based on other intros in the past, it would likely be in two weeks after release. They have no ETA for the product, but when they do they will take preorders.

BTW, I was thinking about getting an MSI NEO Plat with some Gskill PC4400 LE ram for the Venice. Is this a good combo for overclocking? Would appreciate any other better combos. I want to stay away from DFI Lanparty due to the many "issues" people have with stability. This comp will be my 24/7 computer for work and I need a very stable system

THANKS FOLKS! :D

Well as long as U factor in a good solid PSU (I love my OCZ PS 600), since the most of the issues comes from PSU problems, and some good RAM almost issues with the DFIs are infront of the keyboard. Ive been blaming my RAM (OCZ 3200 Plat rev. 2) in combo w. the DFI for bad OC. But in truth Ive discovered that its the Memcontroller on the CPU (to B more exact the second channel of the memcontroller). I ran 7*305 Prime Stable this weekend but and Im at 10*280 Prime stable in Singlechannel but cant go higher then 270*9 DC.

The MSI isn't bad but for OC U really want the DFI.

i feel sorry for anyone who comes in and tries to read the whole thread :eek:

How about feeling sorry for me :rolleyes: that HAS to read all of it..

Well I cant say im that bad of. Theres a certain e-penis prolongation factor in maintaing this thread LoL. 33 pages of rumors and BS. It going towards the sticky Benchmark threads. If this keeps up We'll just have to rename Special (not General) Mayhem. :D

Just sorted the forum on number of replies and views LoL this is the biggest non-sticky the next biggest over all and the third biggest in number of views. From that I deduce that there is a HUGE interest for the Venice out there (and for the things that makes CPUs & Sockels happy in the dark of the night ;) allthogh some even make private home videos of it, LoL)

i think im gonna wait a few weeks until the 3700+ san diego comes out

there is no 3700+ san diego, there is only 4000+ san diego.

The reason is that san diego has 1 MB cache and only 4000+ or higher has 1 MB cache.

Well there is a picture of one 3700+ out there. It was obviously taken at a french review site.

there it is. though it doesn't belong in the venice rumor thread cause it's a san deigo ;)

and frallan, you should put a link to all the reviews/previews of the revE chips in the first post :D

i'll try to dig em up if you want me to

not sure if this is just the new semprons, or the turion too. :D

i think venice is too short to make a nickname for. winchester... yeah. clawhammer.. yeah. venice... no!

im here to lay to rest the age old question "Why are people named richard called dick?" Well Dick is german for Richard. SHOCKINGLY AMAZING FANTASTICLY SPECIAL sounds like a japanese advertisement to me hmm. Well someone send me a venice for free, id be happy thanks.

Agreed. Altho Newcastle takes as long to say as winchester and clawhammer but it doesn't get a nickname......nicknames are so fickle :p

i thought winchesters were ADA3500DIK4BI not ADA3500BIBOX ? the reason i yelled was because that wasnt on there site yesterday and its alot more expenisve than the othe retail box winchester they have on that site ;) by the way monarchs product info sheet is useless if you look closely that is the spec sheet for the fx cpus

the BI in BIBOX indicates winchester, jsut as BI in ADA3500DIK4BI indicates winchester.
the only difference is that one's the retail name, the other is the OPN.

you'll want a BPBOX iirc. i'll go check to find out

http://www.amd.com/us-en/assets/content_type/DownloadableAssets/Rev_change_3_UK.pdf

yeah, BP for venice and BN for san diego

AS is s939 clawhammer. it's the 512kb clawhammer part that everyone keeps talking about ;)

all right.

s754
APBOX = rev C0 clawhammer
ARBOX = CG clawhammer
AWBOX = CG newcastle

s939
ASBOX = CG clawhammer
AXBOX = CG newcastle
BIBOX = D0 winchester
BPBOX = E3 venice
BNBOX = E4 san diego

i might have missed some, but i think that's all of them

edited cause i mixed up C0 and CG clawhammers :D

screw it im just going to wait for the 3700+ san diego because it will be the only s939 3700+

i think ill wait for ZZF/NE/CV to have them...

im not spending 300 bucks at an unknown retailer...

agreed, but at least random stores look like they'll be getting them soon, so bigger retailers should too. i'm hoping that monarch will be taking pre-orders by the end of the week

If any of them were in stock for a 10-25 dollar premium for Venice, I'd of held my credit card's buyers protection close to me and went for it, but.. didn't look like any were in stock..

I've waited this long.. how much do you think 3700+ San Diego's will cost me? I was going to get a 3200+ Venice, take it to 2.6-2.7 on water and let 2.8 and 3.0 remain the realm of more aggressive overclockers, but.. the meg of cache would be nice.. do you think perhaps they will show up in retail channels quite quickly behind Venice, versus the two weeks or so we're seeing here? 3500+ is already an $80 jump from the 3200+, 3700+ may be too much for me

Yeah, you'd be paying for the privilege of having already bought your Venice, people that hold off and order it once ZZF or whatever has it in stock would quite possibly actually receive it sooner.

heres my theory amd held back its venice cores because it wanted to have the san diegos on shelves the day of release (april 15th) i say this because the 4200+ and the fx-57 will now be there flagship cpus and they will want them to be available immediately. So they probably figured why waste the time and effort to ship a simple product refresh (venice) when we can debut venice and our new super badass cpus at the same time and have them widely available

that's quite a plausible one. i've conjured up many theories regarding amd too, but i don't really recall any right now. hopefully baron does. i told him most of them :D
if i can remember anythign worthwhile, i'll post it.

My theory is they didn't want to pay for overnight shipping to distribute the things to dozens of outlets...

aha! i remember my one about why winchesters have sucked lately.

the stepping? i suspect that has something to do with which production line, which lithography mask, and how the wafer was made. might be more, might not, i don't know. this is my suspicion though.

most of the cpu's lately have been having quite few variations. except winchester. there are 4 different steppings as opposed to clawhammer's.. probably around 30-50.
if you note how all CBBID's suck, i'm guessing that the fam line got changed, possibbly to a lesser one. there are no CBBID's before 0450, and no CBBHD's after 0450.. and around then is when the oc'ing dropped off.

then, if you look at the 252's that anandtech got for testing, they were made in week 0447.
so amd has been producing revE chips for quite a while now. my suspicion is that the winchesters were moved from a main production line to a lesser one, with poorer quality wafers.. with the revE chips getting the high quality stuff.

so the result of this? amd has a lot of chips waiting to be sold. i don't think there is a chip shortage in any way ;)

Do the oem cpu's come out with the initial release of the retail ones or do you have to wait a bit?
