Uncharted 2?

Why do you say it here? I'm sure everyone who reads this knows that. Say it on your headset when that happens. They can hear it even if they don't have one.

You mean the headset that the PS3 doesn't come with?

You mean the cheap Bluetooth headset people buy for their phones that everyone should have if they talk on their phone in their house cause it makes being lazy even easier? Yes, that one. AND it's not wired :D LOL

I'm only at chapter 11 but I can safely say that it is the best action game I've played since Half Life 2.

EPIC, that's the best word I can use to describe it. Holy shit its amazing.

Leveling in multiplayer sure is slow. So far it seems like the co-op modes are the most efficient way to get experience.

I think the main perk that makes a huge difference is "down the iron sights." The AK is too inaccurate even when aiming without it.

Yeah I've ben playing the co-op Horde mode and it seems a good way to level up, unlike gears 2 that didn't until recently allow you to level up in the horde matches.

I'm on chapter 16 or so, I think the game has way too many long shooting sequences, which pretty much suck in uncharted. If the game had stealth and puzzle parts more often, and less taking on waves on enemies at a distance with guns, I think it would be a lot better. Still an awesome game overall though.

i wouldn't mind a little more stealth as well. i always try to stealth through a scene as much as possible, but inevitably someone sees me or there's no other option but popping an enemy with the Desert Eagle, and it's game on :D. at least the gunplay is a ton of fun.

Just for the record, the taking on waves of enemies at a distance is what I enjoy the most, but it'd be hollow if it weren't for the other parts. I never felt like it was too much shooting, though.

Honestly, the puzzles are rather lame and super-easy, though fantastic in their graphical glory. The stealth feels more like an after-thought. I love stealth games like Thief and Commandos and even the original Splinter Cell, but it'd require more mechanics than just being able to grab someone from behind to build a game around it (better AI, some shadow meter, etc).

Most people/reviews didn't seem to enjoy the stealth-level anyway, so it would probably have been a mistake to put in more of those as-is.

There'll always be discussions about the proper balance between shootouts, exploration, puzzling and stealth elements. Overall, Uncharted 2 delivers a magnificent combined action-adventure experience.

I played both the co-op and VS. multiplayer a little yesterday. VS is a little spazzy, but co-op was a ton of fun...and really challenging. Levelling up in that mode wasn't too bad. I played 3 levels and wasn't able to complete any of them, but still got to level 4. I figure that might be a better way to level up once everyone online is overpowered.

If you can't afford a <$10 generic Bluetooth headset, the priority of playing Uncharted 2 multiplayer co-op objective should probably be reconsidered ;)

Eh, I don't have a headset yet, which is the only reason I haven't mentioned it in-game yet. Will buy one this weekend though. Not a matter of can't afford it, but more of a matter that I don't have a cell phone. Don't like 'em.
No cell = no headset yet.

As soon as I have one, though, better believe that i'll be calling it out.

You mean the headset that the PS3 doesn't come with?

given the low cost and availability of bluetooth headsets, plus the fact that the ps3 works with any of them, this feels like conmplaining that someone has to burn gas to drive to gamestop.

Pretty much done with the multiplayer competitive. For one, deathmatch and elimination are both extremely boring - Plunder is pretty fun, but even there, the majority of the game is just getting shot in the back and unable to do anything about it. Respawn, repeat. I'm on the top of the scoreboard as often as I'm at the very bottom, so it doesn't seem like there's any skill - it's just a question of who has the drop on the other guy.

I haven't bought this yet, but plan to. The mp demo was fun. How long is the sp campaign the first time through ?

Depends on difficulty (maybe) but it took me 11.5 hours on hard to finish it.

I only do the competitive matches in MP now. I really enjoy the capture points and the one where you have to capture the points in sequence. Good fun right there for me.

I just completed it and I've got to tell you - it was an incredible ride!
The claims of the game being the best single player game in years (if not ever) can certainly be made.
If anything, it should also hopefully make Epic do something incredible with Gears 3. Uncharted 2 essentially took what they did well and infused it with puzzle and platforming elements...and still ended up making for a better cover shooter.
The game's pretty long, too. The first one's really only about 60-70% as long as this one.
I'm in awe of what they've done. The only mission I didn't like was the first one :)

I stayed home sick today and played through it in Hard mode so I could unlock Crushing difficulty. I thought finishing it on Normal would unlock Crushing but it was not to be. Hard didn't really seem any harder to me. You take more damage but most of my deaths come from haphazardly jumping/rolling/strafing off of cliffs so it didn't make much difference. I guess it took me about 6 hours this play through and I'm now up to 68 treasures found. I'll have to start on Crushing this week.

Best game of the year by far.

***SPOILER***

There are a few nitpicks that I have with the game that I've mentioned earlier in the thread. But on my second play through I found another one. The "boss" battle is amazingly bad. As in, Naughty Dog could have done so much more with it but they chose to go the boring/easy route. They could have at least done a chase sequence or something. Imagine baldy chasing you through the city. You're trying to stay one step ahead of him while he uses his new found agility to stay near you but at the same time you have to keep a lookout for the kaboom sap to damage him. After a couple of kabooms he might get pissed and take down a "defender" or two with his bare hands mid-stride in an effort to get to you. They could have done so much more. :(

Right now, it's basically just running around in a circle shooting tree sap when baldy runs near it. You don't even need a strategy, just run clockwise around the outside and you'll eventually take him down. It's quite anti-climatic.

I'm starting to get worried that boring boss battles are meant to be a defining feature of the Uncharted series.

The boss fight in the end was terrible. They have so many ways to make an epic fight but instead got lazy in the end. Oh and that boss was lame as shit..even peter pan wouldn't be scared of him.

I didn't mind the idea of the final boss fight, I just didn't care for how it was executed. Regenerating ammo and doing the exact same thing a dozen times was pretty lame. If they'd simply changed up what you do after the first sequence it could've been better.
The boss fight on the train and the numerous battles with the armored gatling gun soldiers were better, but I wasn't THAT mad. There' only so much you can do in a 1-on-1 battle and still make it a gun battle instead of a chase or God of War button sequence.

My only complaint is that I finished..I want more..and yes..I did buy a PS3 for this game and it was well worth it!

Well, I finally put the game in last night and had a chance to sit down, smell the packaging, and start it up.

I am just under 3 hours into the game, on Chapter 5. I have, according to the stats, 30 minutes idle time, and about 10 minutes in the air time. As useless as those stats are (besides gameplay time), I find them fun and interesting.

What is my impression so far? If the game continues as it has been in the first 3 hours, this will end up being my favorite single player campaign in a video game to date (in regards to gameplay and story). I have had games scare me (Condemned), and games that have made me chuckle (BF: Bad Company), but not a SINGLE game has completely drawn me into the story, or make me actually jump, smile and laugh. So far, UC2 does that.

The opening sequence of the game is the BEST sequence I have ever played. The transition from cut scenes to game play is almost fluid in perfection. Playing the sequence had me literally sitting at the edge of my couch. My son actually was watching me play this game (and getting engrossed in the story) from about 330pm to 9pm (with breaks for homework and dinner).

I am loving the story line, and it's much like the movie National Treasure 1 & 2. I like the eye animations, I love the characters (Chloe has a hot ass). And the environment is vibrant.

I am addicted to finding the bonus items for the trophies and medals too. We have chose to attack the game on Normal so that we can enjoy the story, while being able to walk around looking for the glowing orbs to obtain as many as we can without interruption. Speaking of the orbs, it took me a bit to figure out that you can actually shoot them down (after spending about 20 minutes trying to climb a tree with an orb at the end of one of the branches..grrr!)

The controls are good, almost great. Sometimes Nathan gets stuck when in crouch mode, no matter how many times I try to pull him away. We had to restart a check point once because he was completely stuck against the side of the wall.

The game is very linear, and that is good. I want to follow the story as intended. I also enjoy the hints, as it makes the game more enjoyable when I start getting confused as to the next objective or direction.

The weapons are average, but acceptable. I do wish we had that nice "ting" that you get in COD WaW when you get a headshot though! Grenade controls however do leave a little to be desired.

I like that we didn't have an install, and loading is minimal to non-existent.

The character lines, jokes, the sexual tension between Chloe and Nathan are movie perfect. The character backgrounds and voice overs are right out of hollywood, and nail it.

What can I say that I haven't found that great? Well, graphically, it's a good looking game. I like the draw distance, especially when you are on the roof tops seeing mountains or night with buildings of in the distance with lights on. However, overall, it's just a "good" looking game graphically. It doesn't meet the hype, IMO.

The character animations, especially the guards, when walking is jerky, and they look like robots. Other animations, such as stealth attacks are great, but others are just horrible. There is quite a bit of clipping as well.

I haven't played the MP portion of the full game yet, but having been on the beta, and the most recent MP demo, it's good, but not great.

Overall, this game is a big thumbs up and will be remembered as one of my ALL time favorites (so far). It's hard for me to be at work right now knowing that I am not staring at Chloe's ass.

Ive played up to chapter 5 as well so far, and my impressions of the game are just stellar. The game plays entirely like a compelling movie. I find it hard to stop playing when I get a chance too.

Just curious - for anyone playing through on a 2nd pass, did it let you use function like unlimited ammo and 1-shot kills to complete the game on hard/insane?
In the first game it wasn't possible to get the best gun in the game or unlimited ammo until you completed the game on the hardest difficulty.
In Uncharted 2, you could buy both of them after winning the game...even on very easy I believe.
That pretty much makes winning the game on higher difficulties a gimme if you can do that.

You can only use cheats at the level you completed the game and below, so if you completed it at Hard you can't use cheats in a Crushing run.

Nice, I guess that solves that problem :) I just remember how much trouble I went through in the first game in order to find everything and unlock everything. I don't want them to cheapen that.

I told you after the stealth mission it's gonna kick in an be awesome.

Just play play a little further, you will be impressed trust me.

I almost forget to ask this but did any of you pet the cow in the town or kick the soccer ball with the 2 kids?

I actually pet the cow's ass too:D And got a different response from Drake when I did.

I can see giving tropies for some things with cheats on. For instance you should still be able to get the different treasure hunting ones. Getting a certain number of kills with each weapon would be a little too easy if you can just select that gun and unlimited ammo, though.
I'll have to mess around with them later tonight.

Actually I think you do get trophies with cheats.

I based it on what I vaguely remember from the first Uncharted, but that was ages ago and I might very well be wrong. I'd be interested to know if that's indeed true with 2.

You do get Trophies with cheats. Ive gone back after beating the game to unlock specific weapons and their kill trophies. i have used the unlimited ammo and gifting myself weapons on certain acts to do this. so trophies def work while using cheats.

I finished the game over the weekend. The commercial for the game is dead on because my girlfriend wanted me to play it all the way through so she could watch. She even put off shopping to watch it, no joke!

I don't know how anyone can say the graphics are just good. They are nothing short of amazing. It might not have the highest resolution or the best character models however the amount of overall detail and draw distances is pretty wild.

As for the game play itself, I found the game to have much better pacing then the first Uncharted. I felt that game was gun battle after gun battle. Sure there are a lot of gun battles here as well they just seem better spaced.

Regardless a great ride from start to finish. I can't think of a time where I enjoyed a game this much. (Ok Batman AA was pretty damn close) This game has really raised the bar for any single player game.

I just finish the game too. Best game ever!

I'm just starting to get into the Multi-player and wow its just as fun as the single player part.

Okay quick Question. Should i pick up Uncharted 1 to see how the story began? or is it like you already beat the 2nd one and the first one will feel "boring"?

I am on chapter 23. Awesome game indeed. Now that I am almost done with the game though, it's getting traded in next week. I won't be playing through SP again, and it will help my investment in Forza 3 be that much cheaper.

The first game definitely won't be boring if you've completed the 2nd one. It's a little different (fewer puzzles, more epic shootouts) but not really any worse. It's shorter than the 2nd by about 30-40%, though.

After playing through the 2nd game and seeing the reaction to it on here, it actually makes the first one seem even better, because a good chunk of the elements people are enjoying were in that game, too.

Agreed, Sully wasn't in the 2nd game enough.
He's a good character.

One other gripe about the 2nd game's stopy is that the characters act like the first game didn't even happen. In about 1/2 the crazy situations that happen in #2, Drake has been there and done that...and he has 300 dead bodies on his conscience as a result :)
