Uncharted 2?

Oh my God, the single player is orgasmic. And there is like no aliasing....it was possible...

Normal for me, then hard, then crushing, then crushing 10 more times.

Agreed. I'm trying to make myself go to bed soon so I won't be late for work but I can't stop playing! Funny thing is, I want to stop playing because it's like a great steak I don't want to stop eating... or something. Also I had no idea Claudia Black was in this game. I love her character. :p

I think overall I enjoyed Batman a bit more - at least in terms of combat and gameplay. But the environments in Uncharted are simply the best I've ever seen in a game. It's truly gorgeous. That along with the superb scripting and dialogue make it one of the best games of the year - easily GOTY contender.

The animations are very well done, but sometimes they have trouble interacting with the environment and other people. For example, sometimes trying to connect with a ladder can be a little dramatic, or trying to stick to cover. I'd say that's my biggest gripe.

I'm with Soy...something about the environment is a little different from the first game. Doing simple things is a little tougher than before. Things he used to do automatically (like grabbing ladders or jumping from ledge to ledge) now requires a direction, and usually a specific one. When the screen angle is unusual, sometimes it's tough to make things happen.

Can't say I liked having a very picky stealth mission to start things off either. The stealth kills are hit or miss, making that first mission pretty annoying.

Still, I'm enjoying it. I think I'm probably a nit-pick because I liked the first game so much. So far, this one seems epic. The opening sequence is absolutely amazing.

The stealth mission was ok but it wasn't great and I agree about the problems connecting to ladders automatically but that's really nitpicking. I just finished the chapter where your on the moving train last night and I had to make myself go to bed for work. But all I can say so far is this game is fantastic, God of war 2 is my all time favorite console game but U2 might dethrone it. I've already seen so many things where I was like "woah" out loud that I thought were truly unbelievable and the graphics man are insane, don't wanna spoil anything though. And the way Nate and the other characters react to one another I have never seen in a game before, the game get's so damn immersive after the stealth mission it's ridiculous.

Batman was good but I think you guy's need to play it a little more an let the story get into full swing.

Also had to note, the hand to hand combat is really improved and I had an awesome moment last night where it was raining and I made a run at a guy to 1 button kill him and he turned to face me and I hit square and drake slid between his legs and punched him in the balls.

Game effing is effing amazing!

I agree the stealth mission was pretty rough to have to deal with just a bit into the game. After quite a few restarts i got it tho, and im on my merry way enjoying the shit out of this game.

I agree with this. Naughty Dog did an excellent job improving the melee combat in this game because I hardly even bothered with it in the first Uncharted.

I forced myself to stop playing shortly after the helicopter sequence and I honestly can't remember the last time I had a grin from cheek to cheek by a video game. That sequence alone is one of the most amazing things I've ever seen in a video game. Looking forward to beating the game on hard then restarting on crushing. :D

I only had a chance to get to chapter 4 last night and had to force myself to stop playing in order to get adequate sleep but I can assure you I will be playing this as soon as I get home from work. The game so far is amazing, and it's surprising how much the graphics improved from the first one: sometimes I just have to stop and admire how beautiful it is. The game play and story have great pacing so far and the dialogue is engaging and funny... "Watch out! There's a guy above you!" Drake proceeds to grab the guy and throw him over the ledge "Watch out! There's a guy below you!" haha, that had me laughing.

Yeah dude, that snow level just leaves me speechless. I mean, yes they are different styles, but I thought KZ2 was going to take the slot for best graphics for a while, but this surpasses it.

I don't understand why people are having a hard time with the stealth mission. It wasn't that hard you just had to think like if you were reallying trying to break into the place not run around like a mad man... using cover and patience is the key. I really enjoyed that part of the game and thought it was a nice change of pace and showed that Nate was not all about killing. Also the new stealth take downs are awesome I now try to take down as many people as possible with stealth before getting spotted and shooting my way out.

I dont think it had anythign to do with not running around like a mad man. It was, if you didnt pick the exact right people in the right order to take out, you got caught.

But im with you on the stealth stuff, its nice to be able to take out a few guys before getting into a gun battle

I think my favorite quote so far in the game was:

Sully: I'm sweating like a hooker in church.
Nate: You brought a hooker to church?
Sully: Why not?

:D

The funny thing about the combat in the first Uncharted is that there are a ton of animated kills (like the sliding ball punch) in that one, too. There just aren't many opportunities to get them.
I was trying to be a completionist, and in getting some of those tropies, I discovered 10 or so animated melee finishes.
The cool thing about Uncharted 2 is the new full-on melee combat with counters. That's a really neat touch.

As for that stealth mission - Nate killed about 1000 people in the first game. Might as well just up the body count :)

Yeah its funny that they talk about hey your conscience can stay intact by using a tranq gun. But then hes tossing the same guards off buildings 200ft to their deaths 3 mins later.

lol that part was pretty funny. I played for about 4 hours last night and I loved it. The part where a helicopter is assaulting you was AMAZING. Probably the single coolest action sequence i've ever played in a video game.

After I completed a bunch of stuff in the single player I was a bit worn out but I wanted to try out the multiplayer before i went to sleep, ended up playing maybe 10 matches and got to level 8. The game has your basic gameplay modes, capture the flag, king of the hill, etc. but they put their own spin on it and make them feel really fun. In the CTF it's called trasure hunt or something and you have to get a big gold statue and carry it, you can't jump or anything while you're carrying it but you can throw it like a grenade to pass it to people or throw it up on a roof and then climb the building and grab it again and continue towards the capture point.

I had an awesome moment playing CTF, a guy on the other team grabbed the statue, then I'm guessing he was about to die and launched the thing by reflex. He threw the statue up onto a rooftop near me, so i jumped up there, at the same time there was an enemy climbing the roof from the other side. I punched him twice and killed him. Then another guy from his team climbed up and shot me, but the first enemy had a booster called revenge, where a grenade explodes from your body every time you die, just like call of duty martyr bomb i think it's called. So this all happened withing like 3 seconds. The bomb went off and killed hte guy who killed me and sent the statue flying off the roof. It was pretty cool.

Also, BEST LOOKING GAME EVER i would say. It runs really smooth, it's like, take the polish and perfection of how good MGS4 looked, but compress that into a more linear experience where you just have one solid path. So it looks even better, but the world is less open for you to walk around in. Only thing I feel it's missing is the thing, if you put crysis shaders to maximum it makes the sun kinda tint the whole world orange at sunset, and other stuff, and it just looks awesome. I don't think uncharted has that graphical effect.

edit: i think the stealth works much better in this game than in uncharted 1, feels like if you go to the side of an enemy where they might not see you, you can actually get by without them magically alerting the world. And the stealth kills / melee animations in general are really awesome.

I don't know I guess I just went into Sam Fisher mode when playing the stealth part and didn't have a problem at all and really enjoyed it.

I also had a pretty funny moment. It was on Plaza and it was a CTF game and the enemy team needed one more capture to win the game. I climbed up into their base where they have to turn in the statue (were you have to throw it up top to turn in) and just hide up top and the enemy comes running in to turn the statue in and the guy throws it up top and I pick it up and throw it back out. The guy thinks he just missed it and picks it up again and throws it back up top and again I throw it out. I think this went on for another three or four times before the enemy team figured it out and killed me. I was laughing so hard :D

Batman was good but I think you guy's need to play it a little more an let the story get into full swing.

Oh I don't know, I'm pretty much done with Uncharted and my comment still stands. I agree that the cinematic story of Uncharted is pretty god damn amazing. It has flawless scripting and voice work. But still, when I pick up a controller and play a game, Batman seemed to be more fun for me. Awesome stealth and combat, upgradeable weapons, more refined platforming, etc... And let's be honest, the scripting and voice work in Batman was nothing to sneeze at either. It was quite excellent.

Uncharted definitely pushes some boundaries though, and my jaw has hit the floor a few times from it, as well as had a few good laughs. I don't know, it's a tough call, but so far I think I'm gonna have to side with the Bats for goty.

Got to chapter 19 yesterday. Great game so far! Looking forward to finishing it up after work.

That's what's crazy about U2, the way the characters just chit chat like in real life during the missions. It really ups the immersion factor.

Yeah the melee combat finishers are new to me because it was a little wonky in the 1st one so I kinda stayed away from the hand to hand, but in this one I'm loving it.

I am having an absolute blast with this game. Like someone else stated, I cant remember the last time a game has put a giant ass smile on my face that doesn't seem to go away. To me I think what makes this game so good is that its more of an experience rather than just a game thats fun. It feels like you are apart of a believable and controllable action movie more than anything else i have played.

Believe it or not, that's what I loved most about the first Uncharted, and so far I'm more than satisfied by the wittiness of this one :D This is the only game (series) in which I look forward to cutscenes and any kind of remarks -- especially by Nate and Sully.

DON'T YOU ASSHOLES SEE THE HELICOPTER?!!!

Found my copy in the mailbox today.

Installed it. Sat there with a big smile, thinking "this is absolutely ridiculous" as I played through the tutorial and a small part of the first chapter.

This weekend can't come soon enough. Had to FORCE myself to quit for the night. The big problem now is what to do with the $100K I got for having completed Drake's Fortune.. I'm thinking I'll just unlock all the featurettes at $10K a' pop, I love that stuff. It's not like you have that many options this early in the game, and I know I'll earn the rest easy anyhow.

Installed it? This is one of the few games that didnt do that. I do like the seamless chapters though. Never any loading in the game that you can see.

$100k? could you elaborate? I have Uncharted 1. I still have yet to pickup Uncharted 2 (HUGE backlog of games)

In Uncharted 1 you scored points for accomplishing things (a la achievements/trophies) while in #2 you earn money instead.
In the first game the best unlocks were the weapons. In firefights where ammo was limited, you could always have the game give you a different weapon complete with a little ammo for it.
They saved the best unlocks (Golden Gun, Dragunov, RPG) for 900-1000 points, so you couldn't use them to complete the game on the hardest difficulty.
In there's an unlimited ammo unlock - that's probably the best thing possible.

You unlock (aka "buy") in-game items and other things using uncharted dollars. You earn Uncharted Dollars in MP (for all sorts of things) or SP (finding treasure, maybe other ways).

Now, when you find your first treasure in UC2 I think the menu pops up, anyhow, there's a menu where you onlock things, and under it you'll see a "[Square] Drake's Fortune". Press Square and the game will scan your saves, if you have completed Drake's Fortune you get $100K Uncharted Dollars. You get a smaller amount for just having the game even if you haven't completed it.

Can anyone tell me how long the game is? I have yet to buy it, just haven't made it to the store. Bought the first Saturday, beat it Sunday I think? Maybe Monday. On my second playthrough already, about half way there. (actually, the wife is on play-through 2, i''m just watching)
The one thing I was disappointed with was the play time. 10 hours give or take. I just wanted more. Not in a bad way, though.

So it scans the save games or checks trophy's? I completed UC1 before they added trophy support.

Pretty sure it checks the saves, not trophies. Or in the case of the reward for having Drake, that Drake is installed.

Neat! I've got every single thing from Uncharted 1 except the platinum award for completing it on the hardest difficulty. If that affects #2, I can go back and do that in a weekend.

You're right, I didn't install it (or, didn't explicitly install it -- I'm sure it wrote state, maybe even more). Wish I could though, there's quite a bit of loading to get into the game. I sat listening to the laser going crazy back and forth thinking, "why the hell would they layout the content to make it do that?"

I'm sure I'll soon wish I could have the MP parts installed.

I've got 200GB free damned it.

Just stopped on Chapter 16. Game is perfect except for one thing..whenever I'm trying to swing, Drake turns around 4040404040 times, and it is annoying as hell.

That annoyed me too. I kept on thinking that I was missing some control option to turn on the rope.

I checked when I got home and it checks trophy's :(

that's a shame. i beat Uncharted twice but both times were before they implemented trophies. just got back from gamestop - traded in Army of Two, Dark Sector, and GRAW2 for $25. U2 will be a whole lot of entertainment for $35 :)

I just got done watching an extended session of my roommate playing this game. I never thought I'd say this, but the PS3 is coming mighty close to Crysis levels of detail.

Oh, and having Claudia Black in the game as a voice actress is insanely awesome. Too bad Chloe doesn't look like her.

Just finished it up. The combat sequences in the last quarter of the game were a little tedious. They throw a whole lot of guys at you with RPGs and armor, yet you have very limited ammo. Overall, a satisfying story and enjoyable gameplay. Took me just under 11 hours on Normal.

Stopped on Chapter 22 I think last night. Whatever I did, that fight on the bridge was stupidly challenging on normal.

According the the post above then, I assume I am near the end.
