The Witcher

Please read my post. I got 2 minutes into the game and ran into a bug or retardation.

You can pre-order the import Enhanced Edition from gogamer.com for $50, did this yesterday, looking forward to this. Been playing a lot of MMOs recently, time to get back to some solid single player RPG action. The demo impressed me and ran great at 1920x1200, so if the performance gains in the EE are any good at all this should be great.

Been playing it a lot lately, although I'm only a few "days" into the game. I'm REALLY digging it. Started out a bit "iffy", but the more I play it the more I like it.

One complaint: I wish the customization of Geralt produced a more VISUAL distinction. I wish that there would be a change to his look when you did a big upgrade or gained a level or something. As is, there is no visual change, so it doesn't feel like you've gained a level.

A very interesting story. You can go as linear as you want, or you can go out of order. And I like the subtle comedy and the not-so-subtle comedy, ie "I f****ed a she-elf once." Heh heh. Definately M for Mature.

That's a pretty sweet line lol.

Geralt changes slightly when you change armour. The difference is very small though. The best armour in the game costs 5000 but worth every penny. There is armour you can forge yourself if you find the parts, but I missed one

Does the EE include such visual differentiations?

Does the EE include such visual differentiations?

Not sure but I read that it includes greater npc variety. So instead of reusing the same 50 models over and over they added 100 so we get a total of about 150 models now. Not sure what else they did.

I have the original Witcher. Is this going to be released as a patch, or are they basically doing a Vegas 2 (charging for the same game with some new stuff)?

IIRC, if you own the game, you will be able to patch it to the EE when it is released. But if you do not own it, you can buy the retail EE as well.

You can get witcher EE as one of three options:

1) Enhanced edition pack - same price as first one - as it's full game and everything added to it later.
2) free download of everythng added enhanced edition if you have basic one
3) 5 euro witcher update pack - with all the content added to orginal edition on 2 dvds (and iirc one cd with music) in a separate box - no idea if iit's released in US but should be import friendly as iirc all language versions will be there on new cds.

Curious, is the EE edition going to be censored or uncensored?

Good point. Probably depends where you live. The Euro version was uncensored unlike the North American release. I think the main difference is the nude cards and the sex cutscenes.

I just got this game! It looks like a fresh approach to an RPG. Very nice except that it likes to crash every so often, the camera is occasionally annoying and being thrust into battles with no weapon equipped is REALLY ANNOYING.

But other than that this actually has me excited to play RPGs again. I was getting disappointed with the latest and greatest.

If God of War can show ta-ta's on the playstation, why can't The Witcher show them on my PC?

Just checked out gogamer and apparently there's an uncensored version! clicky

That's cool. The way the developers meant the game to be played. With sex, profanity et all.

I live in the UK anyway so no problem with tits and arse in games. The censors here are more concerned with violence in computer games than anything else..

So the resurrection of this thread with EE just around the corner made me pick up and play my copy (UK version of course ;)). When I got home tonight, I started playing it and before I knew it 4 hours passed by! Such a great game to just get your mind lost in. From what I see so far, the alchemy portion goes into quite a great detail.

It's so nice to take a break from the busy MMO's and play an RPG at a slow, steady pace. The dwarf blacksmith in the first town kicks ass. :p

I just hope that the EE patch is friendly to my gamesaves.

The game is a time sponge, that to me is a sign of a great game. Like all good RPG's the sense of being there/escapism is important and this game has this in spades.

I've been playing a little, and I am totally lost on the whole Alchemy system. I'm hoping the EE makes it a bit simpler. I just feel like an idiot, so I have been skipping it for now.

However, the game is really in depth. There is definately a fully fleshed out story beneath it, you can tell. Its great.

My only complaint, and I've said it before, is that I wish the upgrades were a bit more satisfying.... I wish Geralt's appearance changed more for each level up. That would give each level a bit more weight, but it might take away from the story so it would have to be just slightly more of a change to keep the realism in tact.

But, I've definitily enjoyed it. I'm stopping now until next week (5 more days!) when the EE is supposed to drop. Then I'll start over and make a few different choices on these first parts. :)

Ehh you can't expect witcher to upgrade visualy with each passing level that would be against the setting of Sapkowski world.

And besides you are only getting skills which once you had but lost so you can say he is visually ready for most badass level up :D

The Alchemy system was broken in the stock game IMO. You really should be able to organize your inventory more efficiently. I guess I just got irritated trying to micro manage my inventory by sorting items up into groups by type.

Once you get some of the more powerful recipes you can really break the difficulty as well. Drink potions, rest a short amount of time to lower toxicity, drink more, etc. Broken, but fun :)

Either way, I've been holding off on a replay for the EE version. I've not read much about it (don't want to spoil anything this time around), but I really hope they add more of a variety of enemies, and at least one new area.

There's no new areas or anything on main story - you get same old plot but with improved visuals of characters and lot more new models for NPCs.

But you get new content in form of two substories played separatly.

My laptop manages the game on all medium settings, but I will say that this the ONLY PC-exclusive game out there right now that makes me want to buy a nicely-equipped desktop. Some of the screenshots I've seen looks so atmospheric... if I get sucked into the game now, I wonder just how awesome it would be on a power rig. ;)

I haven't finished the game yet. I think I am on ActIV. Someone mentioned that it was a time sponge. Indeed it is so I would like to finish the game once the new patch comes out.

Probably not far to go to the end. The end of Act IV has a tough battle though. Act V is relatively short

I am looking forward to playing this game when I build another rig. Laptop w/ integrated graphics ftw.

Been waiting for this since Feburary so I'm pretty amped up.

Stalker: Clear Sky
The Witcher: Enhanced
Mount and Blade: Final

It sucks (in a good way) that they are all releasing days apart from each other, guess I'll just buy all 3 and play them speradically until I finish or get tired of each of them.

If you do all the quests and explore everywhere you can get 80+ hours out of this game. I took my time savoring the experience and doing all the quests, I spent about 30 hours on Chapter 2 alone.

Chapter 2 of the witcher was about 30 hours of the best RPG gaming I've ever done in my life. It was amazing the way so many quests were heavily intertwined in that chapter. Most RPG games try to avoid such high levels of intertwining quests as it increases the chance of breaking entire questlines and introducing bugs.

The first time I stuck with the Knights of the Flaming Rose, but I guess this time I'll be with those terrorist elves.
One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter.

From what I see so far, the alchemy portion goes into quite a great detail.
The higher the difficulty, the more alchemy helps. At the highest difficulty many encounters in the game are impossible without potions.

Didn't the 1.3 patch fix this "exploit", I seem to remember not being able to abuse this once the game was patched.

It looks like the retail version is available tomorrow the 16th, but the downloadable "patch" is not going to be available until the 19th.

You bought The Witcher last year and now you’re afraid that you won’t have the opportunity to enjoy all the features of the Enhanced Edition? WRONG!

Wipe away your tears, little one, because we’ve got a nice treat for you. If you bought the original version of The Witcher and registered it at thewitcher.com, you’ll be able to download all of the great content from the Enhanced Edition for free starting September 19!

And it looks like it is going to be HUGE! 1.5GB and that doesn't include the bonus features. YEEPA!
1. Download the Patch file (it’s something about 1GB)
2. Download the language file/files (more or less 500 MB)
...
6. (Optional) Download bonus content & soundtrack

sweet. preordered the witcher enhanced on Impulse(stardock) with the 20% off coupon for 26.99. Can't wait!

I'm fighting bugs left and right in this game... Maybe it's my PC but clicking on things doesn't always work. I'll be in the middle of the battle, click on an enemy and my guy will just stand there. I'm not talking about changing styles or interrupting a sequence either. He'll stand there and take damage for 5-10 seconds. Happens once in awhile with loot, too. There's always a waiting period after battle but occasionally after that, clicking on a piece of loot does--nothing.

There are also some converations that happen in battle--"It's-uhg-those hounds!" "Uhg-don't worry about it-ugh-they're gone." Plus I'm forced to sheath my weapon when opening a door, approaching a group of (potentially hostile people). Sometimes the wep. gets put away after looting bodies, sometimes it doesn't.

I'm developing a real love/hate relationship with this game. Great RPG so far but some glaring annoyances. Fortunately they're not too serious.

Have you patched it to v1.3? That's the latest.

However, in a few days, they are releasing v1.4 also known as the Enhanced Edition.

I saw that a fair bit too. Seems like some sort of pathing issue, usually if you move him a little and attack again he'll actually do something.

Yeah, I'm patched to 1.3. Anxiously awaiting 1.4 so I can see the clothes--er, bugs--removed. :D

Okay, so I'm not the only one. That's more or less what I've been doing. It can be a pain in restricted areas but whatever, it's not like the combat is super difficult (except the Hellhound was tough since it caused pain/paralysis every second time it attacked.) I can live with it. At least it's not CTD'ing anymore.

Does anyone know when on the 16th this download is available on Steam?
