The Witcher

just checking back in , Started playing this finally really fun and so many things to do kinda ( im an fps person so yea...) Runs great on 1600x1200 maxed out with my 4850. About how long does it take for you guys to beat it? kinda short on time with school starting on monday.

The game areas are just way too limited. I remember the first few times I went to the swamp I thought it was just a little side area but you literally have to do like...30 quests in just the swamp, it becomes boring and redundant. The game definately feels largely on rails as well, there is a lot of running around, I played pretty close to the end and just gave up due to boredom and not enough cool sidequests/content.

Very cool game, if you can download the Polish Television series too, its really good and gives you some backstory.

i beat the game from beginning to end without one single crash. So yeah it's your computer not the game.

Yeah, I tend to agree with ya. The only thing I wish The Witcher had was more open areas and room to explore things. There were a bunch of areas where I felt confined and was hoping the game expanded more but didn't. That's really the only downside I felt....there was this huge world that the game was set in but you only saw a very small part of it and in those areas that you saw, you were limited as to where you could walk and explore.

I had a lot of crashes and horrible load times until I turned down most of the graphics options.... still looks good and it runs much better.

This game is much more strenuous on my system than Bioshock (running in DX10). which surprised me.....

ya, the swamp is definately cool the first few times, tough monsters at first and very creepy especially at night, those swamp monsters at night remind me of an h.p lovecraft story, I am sure they will make a sequel and maybe they will get more funding to expand it out.

Just wanted to post up that I found a copy of this game real cheap, so I picked it up. With the Enhanced Edition right around the corner, I'm thinking of waiting for it to be released before I play any of it. I'm hoping its as good as it looks. Looks fun.

Well, I'm installing it tonight. I'll play a little bit without the EE just to see if this is something that I want to play. I really want to get in there to see if it is my kind of game. The reviews look good, the story looks good, and the gameplay looks good, but you never know until you get in there.

Besides, I have no patience. I have a game in a box. Must play.

:D

I can't wait either. I've been putting off a second run-through of the game since EE was announced....I"m wicked excited that it's finally coming close to being released! :)

Ok. The 16th. Two weeks. :)

I went ahead and loaded it up and I'm enjoying it so far. I set it on Easy and "mouse mode" just to get a quick feel for it without going through a lot of motions just to have to start over when E.E. comes out. Its a lot of "do this" and "do that" right now, but I'm assuming that's just the beginning tutorial.

It seems very complex. But, I'm really enjoying the depth of th story so far. I'm sure it's going to be great.

I'm looking forward to replaying The Witcher when the EE version comes out (and since I've bought my 8800 since I played it the first time).

Just wondering...has anybody read The Last Wish? It's a collection of short stories about Geralt that was recently translated into English (from Polish) and published in the US. FYI, if you didnt know, there are several novels and collections of short stories by Andrzej Sapkowski, but the vast majority have not been translated into English yet. I ordered it on Amazon today and am eagerly awaiting the chance to read it as I really like the setting of the video game. I'm curious if anybody has read it and what they thought of it...?

Yeah after I played the demo I picked up the Last Wish book a while ago. It was pretty good except that it jumped around from chapter to chapter. I know it was intended as a series of short stories, but at least they were sort of in chronological order. At least now I know how to play the enhanced edition when it comes out.

Hopefully once the EE is out and dusted. Can we then expect a sequel?

From my meager experiences with the game, it seems like there is a lot of depth of content. That would lead me to believe there is plenty of storyline available for a sequel should they decide to go that route.

As well as the game was selling originally, and as well as it seems like the enhancments are going to make the game, it seems that a Sequel is probably going to happen. You don't just throw away a money machine. You keep pumping it until it goes dry.

I'm thinking of picking this up, is this game stable on Vista x64? How is performance?

Stable for me on 32 bit Vista with the latest patch (1.3 if my memory serves me correctly). Not sure about x64 though.

Where is the best place to pick up the Andrzej Sapkowski novels?

I bought The Last Wish (collection of short stories) on Amazon. Blood of the Elves (first novel) is set to be released in English later this month. The rest still haven't been translated into English, AFAIK.

Can't wait to try the game, I've been waiting for the EE for a long time since I bought the game. Is release still first half of Sept? That's only a week and a half or so! :)

Yep, I hope the release stays in september! Can't wait to play it either, still haven't touched the game since I heard news of the EE. I have been looking at videos and boy is it going to be good...:D

16th September, hopefully!

Thanks, I'll have a look on Amazon

I grabbed the demo last night, blown away by the overall quality of the game, definitely grabbing this over the weekend.

Maybe best to wait for the EE. If you don't want the extra content in the box (map, soundtrack, novel etc) then buy The Witcher standard edition and then patch it up to the EE version once it's released

Yeah I'm definitely holding out for the enhanced edition of this game. I played the demo and was impressed and I've been waiting for the enhanced edition since May so waiting another two weeks should be easy.

I'm playing through again; I'm on the 2nd chapter. It's going to take a little while for me since I can ONLY play on the weekends (too much stuff going on during the week) so the whole story lasts about a month for me. I'm loving it as much as I did the first time through, maybe even a bit better since I'm stuck on certain parts like I was the first run-through. I am trying to make all the opposite choices that I did the first time. The first time I stuck with the Knights of the Flaming Rose, but I guess this time I'll be with those terrorist elves. We'll see, I guess. What a great story line! I'm playing it at 1920x1200 with max graphics (with 16AF, but no AA). Beautiful game.

Right before I started playing this for the second time, I tried replaying Neverwinter Nights, but it seems so dated compared to the Witcher.

Is the EE going to extend the HW requirements for the game (ie better textures/shadows, etc.)? Think it'll run ok on my rig in sig at 1680x1050? Well it did actually come bundled with my 8800gts card when I bought it a few months back.

It should run totally fine. I ran it (pre-EE of course) at 1600x1200 with everything cranked and it was pretty smooth. Some spots it got a bit rough, but not so much that it was unplayable....and I have the G80 version of the 8800GTS so I imagine yours should run it even better.

I never got past the very first fight lol. The stairs were blocked by something and I could not go anywhere. I sold my pc soon after and never worked it out. Good looking game though a bit short!

Short? It's not that short, I spent around 25'ish hours and was only just near the end of the Swamp area, then decided to wait for the enchanced version to finish it.

Took me close to 50 hours, I'd say that was bloody good value!
