The Witcher

Yea, Americans are really weird in that way. And yet they are one of the largest purveyors of porn in the world too, if not the largest. Look at the hoopla over Janet Jackson showing her nipple on TV and yet no one blinks over two guys beating each other up in a hockey game on TV, instead they relish it. Strange.
Actually, Americans don't watch hockey anymore. The TV ratings are in the toilet and attendance is dismal. We haven't cared about hockey since the 1980 Olympics when the USA upset them god-damned commie bastards and eventually won the gold. Now, we watch NASCAR for the high speed multi-car pile ups... while the whack-job religious nut-cases go haywire over an absurd wardrobe malfunction!!! :p

Its not censored like the US version... no boobies for the US! Its OK for you to slice off someone's head, but not to see a naked female!

What about the language? Do they actually speak english or do you need to know the foreign language they are speaking in to understand it?

Okay, after being constantly disappointed by European RPG's lately (Gothic 3, Two Worlds), this looks to be the one I should really get into. Ordering the UK version!

DLing the US version from gamersgate.com now! I can't wait to play it. Been looking forward to this game for a LONG time.

Looks like I will be getting the UK version as well. Anyone know of a place to get a digital download of it instead of waiting to have it shipped? The UK version that is.

I think I might break down and buy the US ver at Fry's this afternoon since I am 1 mile from it right now.. if they have it today that is.. :)

So um, is this game out in stores today, is this one of those retarded things where even IGN is saying it's in stores today, but today is only the ship date and it will be in stores tomorrow?

The gaming industry is so stupid with release dates.

Yea, I have no clue, and I can't even find the damn thing on Best Buy to check the stock of the stores to do an in store pickup... I'd call Gamestop but ugh, but all I'll hear is "The what? What game is this? What are you talking about?"

Well, none at Fry's in Sunnyvale CA (near kifer rd) yet... booooo! but I scored a shitload of scary movies on sale.. lawl  lawl. I guess I'll go ahead and order from gogamer. :)

Hey anyone else confused Re: the barmaid in the first small town. I think her name was Velma SomethingorOther

Highlight below:

I talked to her and I guess hit on her and was supposed to ;) ;) but she said "Just a moment I have something special for you" or whatever and walked into the back room which I was unable to enter... I continued to do some fights and stuff and then just ended up sleeping by the fire and never saw her again.. I want to at least buy some beer from her for the drinking match! :p

which version did you get, and did you go w/ overnight/2 day shipping? Reason I ask is bc they say it'll come friday, but I got 3 day shipping... hopefully it comes a lil earlier though :)

You can't get with her then, just flatter her up a bit. When you go out and do some quests on the way back one time you'll find her to the road the right of the inn (coming out of it) being harassed by some thugs, you defeat them all and then escort her to her house. Afterwards you can say the right things and then the evenin you have to get some wine and can go to the old mill to do the deed with her..

Ahhh ok, so my game wasn't just bugged or anything :p

Sometimes it feels like the cutscenes are messed up or something, I was waiting for her to come back as I wanted some beer too lol.. I had to reload an older save and bought some beer first then sweet talked her :p

I do really like how what you say does influence the npcs though... unlike some games where you can threaten to kill them and then still chat with em

Makes you save before each interaction though incase you say the wrong thing

Just played the first hour or so of this and got to the first village. It's quite neat and I can see it's going to have a lot of depth to it, but I can't get over how clunky the fighting seems, might as well be rolling dice here...the enemies kinda circle you and barely attack, the dodges are akward and other than the "style" of attacks there's not a great veriety so far, just slash away, combos are easy to make.

Runs well in max settings @ 2560x1600 and looks pretty decent.

Yeah I agree that the combat could use some help, I'm hoping thats just the early stage though and our characters don't have the more advanced fighting moves yet, so its sooo basic.

The drinking / fist fighting is very fun though, like the drunk walk and blurry vision.

Wait until you fight the Beast.

Oh quick question for those who are already at the first town (select below):

Did you choose to go to the lab or did you choose to fight the monster that broke through the wall? I choose the lab and fought the sorcerer who was controlling the monster and that was about it irrc, do you fight him the other way as well or do you fight the big monster dude?

Hey guys, I've been playing the game for a few hours now. I like it but the load times are killing me. I don't have a terrible system so I think it's just the game. I can literally ALT+Tab and play a match of UT3 while it's loading. I generally only have a couple of hours a day to game and I don't want to spend half of it on loading times.

How well do you guys think this would play on a X1900 XT, 2.4GHz AMD with 2GB of RAM? I'm hoping for max settings at 1280x1024.

With the processor I'm not sure. You might have to bump a few things to medium and such.

Alright, thanks. So long as it doesn't destroy my system I guess it'll be worth giving a shot at least.

The game is pretty good. I'm still getting used to the fighting system, but its gettin' there. The graphics are great, and the skills system is even better. I haven't put that much time into it, prolly about 3 or 4 hours. I love it so far, and can't wait to grind it out this weekend when I have time.

Hmm thats strange, it takes maybe 20 seconds to load for me.

uk.atari.com

edit: looks like the same link sent out by Stiler...

Pretty sure you can get the international version on gogamer for 50$, it'll just take a little longer(like Nov. 2 iirc)

Loat times are maximum 15 seconds for me.

Q6600, XP, 4GB, 7200rpm drive.

I just bought a copy from BB in San Francisco.. (harrison st). I'm picking it up shortly.. I guess I will have to suffer with the US version.. oh well. At this point I just want to get into this game... :) America, protecting the right to bear arms, but not bear ass.

Not sure of I have encountered a bug. When I reached the swamp area in chap 2 and talk to gramps you start the escort quest to get him to the tower area, well on the while he was following me there was a cave so I went inside did the cave than came out and he was back at his original spot. When I went and talked to him again he just wont follow me anymore so now I cannot complete the escort quest. Has this happened to anyone else? Wonder if I just skip that quest will I be able to continue with the process for the main quest line?

Haven't gotten there yet (btw might wanna put spoiler in the title or color the text black (#222222), but have you patched to 1.1 or whatever the patch was? It was supposed to fix a lot of bugs.
