No problems running it so far. Just left Edgewater. The game reminds me so much of Skyrim which is good...for me.

Finished the story in under 20 hours.
Weapons and armor are somewhat disappointing - only a few tiers of each. Did not bother with mods.

Same as in previous fallout games, 100 hacking/lockpicking/persuasion is ez mode.
Everyone will approach the game differently, but the idea of rushing through the story quests just to get to the end seems like chugging an $800 bottle of wine.

Some of the best stuff I've found has just been exploring the maps, off the beaten path. The side quests are also great since they're all hand crafted - there hasn't been one that's felt like mindless filler. Hell, I just spent almost 2 hours monkeying around with different perk/skill/crafting scenarios trying to produce a OHK god-gun, and I usually ignore crafting in most RPG's.

Game is fucking amazing. I've put over 30 hours just in this weekend already.

Runs amazing on my PC, only issues I have is the occasional hitching, usually when just starting the game or just randomly. I chalk that up to my aging processor, though...as when hitching occurs my processor is peaked out....regardless, barely an issue and very much playable.

You're attacking everyone and calling them morons/etc., but you're playing with VSync on?

lul
What kind of idiotic reply is that? Are you truly so fucking stupid that you can't comprehend that most people don't like screen tearing and not every monitor has freesync/gsync? And you even admit to having the same hitching that I'm having but you are ignorantly blaming your CPU.

Nice edit, guess you didn't feel like you were talking out your ass enough. Have you not ever heard the term "bottleneck"?

Maybe learn a thing or two about properly utilizing the NVidia control panel, and MAYBE you can figure out your own issues. ;)

And if you had a clue then you would know that your 6700k is NOT a meaningful bottleneck here and not the cause of your hitching. You are getting the same hitching that me and some others have reported and it has nothing to do with hardware. But hey instead of just admitting that you blame your cpu and make an asinine comment about me using vsync. Anything else stupid and useless that you would like to add?

Still running vsync?

You should be hitting 60fps with a 1080ti on most standard resolutions, so why bother.

Given his quote, he is monitoring his HW during gameplay.

I did not rush that much, only missed/did not bother with two quests on Byzantium.
The maps, if you did not notice, are quite small.

My pc is running the game buttery smooth, maybe it's because I have an AMD card and you are using an nvidia card.

Between my computers I have a titan xp, 1070, and a 2080ti, no hitching on any of them. That being said I don’t run vsync, and only my 2080 to pushes above 1440p.

Yea using gsync myself and I get no screen tearing at all. If anything the game runs great with my specs below. I shocked how well it runs. Usually a new release always has some kind of performance issues.

With my 1080ti I get around 95-130fps @1440p maxed out (no loot motion blur of course) depending on the scene.

Sounds like the mods & various Buffs are tied to Difficulty to a large degree. On Hard or higher they become more necessary. Haven't tried it myself, but footage seems to support it. It's not a l9oter shooter, so the Armor doesn't surprise me, but I agree some more depth there would have been nice. I tend to go Persuade / Stealth anyway, probably why I lime these games.

Well if you could have access to everything with a single character build it wouldn't be a very good rpg. I would count this as a pro not an issue.
I have no charm, bellow average intelligence but still can persuade or intimidate anyone into submission. Next time I'll try a hacker / lockpicker spec with high stealth.
The good thing about the game is that there is always another option to solve a problem, If you can't talk your way out of it. And some dialogue options need high medical or science skills, you can't have them all. And that's all right.
I wasn't trying to do everything with one build. I accepted reduced specs specifically for the Dialogue boost. It was personal preference, not frustration with the game design.

I haven't decided yet whether this game is genius or a solid 7.5/10..

- only have a couple hours in, mostly fiddling with different builds etc..

Fyi, with my ole sig rig: Using the Very High preset, with Textures @ Ultra and Shadows @ High.... Zero stutter pretty much at my refresh rate of 75hz /w Vsync On.

Can you not holster weapons in the game? I'm feeling kind of stupid running around weapons drawn everywhere. I might even shoot someone accidentally with my twitchy trigger finger.

I have only small gripes with the game apart from that.

1: Why can't you have all mission markers on at the same time on the map? It's such a hassle that every time you don't know what to do next you have to cycle trough all quests to see which is local. Go to Journal choose active quest, go to map, see where it leads to, repeat until end.

2: Different tier weapons look exactly the same in the inventory there is nothing to differentiate them. Giving them different colors at least wouldn't have been much work.

3: The FMVs and loading screens are stretched on ultrawide. (no hack / workaround available yet)

4: Can't turn off chromatic aberration and mouse acceleration (can do them with ini editing)

Hold R (if using default controls) to holster.

Thanks, I think I've tried that, maybe I didn't hold it long enough.

Another question: How the F do I use companion abilities? They are always greyed out for me.

Hold whatever you have Reload bound too, if it is not "r".

Companion Commands are locked out until you have 20 pts in Leadership.

Just completed this game, did all quests, explored mostly everywhere and got the best endings - took about 26 hours. During the first couple hours the gameplay felt a bit clunky and the visuals felt a bit substandard. However as time passed after you got new guns, mods, upgrades and unlocked more locations, both the gameplay and visuals grew on me and I was fully immersed and enjoying the game.

A few things needed polish, such as the UI, the weapon switching animations, ability to have multiple quest markers, the gear/weapon progression, the hundreds of disorganized pointless consumable items (which for most players on normal difficulty would be pointless filler). Less items with more meaningful and readable stats would have been the way to go, rather than keeping the now old fashioned Bethesda style of countless, meaningless junk items everywhere.

The main plot was interesting, the companions personalities were unique though typical for the genre, and while their individual quests varied from average to great they were too abrupt to really leave a lasting impression. This game imo was way better than Fallout 4, quality over quantity, and I'm glad I supported the devs cause at the end I felt like I could play another 20 hours in this universe no problem.

I went to max and it still looked weird. I believe i dialed it back by 10-20 and it was perfect after that.
I will have to try that, it still kinda bugs me. I get used to it (either that or it just warps perception) after about an hour tho.

Overall, I am very impressed by the game. The voice acting is top notch, though I find myself not looking at the animations in the conversations because they are flat and lifeless. Devoid of almost all emotion (there is a flicker, here and there, of life). One thing I can say is that the animations are definitely better flat and lifeless than Mass Effect Andromeda AAA Meme generation. That's really my only bitch about the game, the cut scenes and I can't dialogue skip (or haven't found the skip button). I have been listening to all the dialogues but I am getting tired of it, there is so damn much of it! Need the ability to skip some.

I think its just spacebar to skip conversation.

I just finished Emerald Vale, I chose to divert power to edgewater, and then get rid of that spaces choice leader so the botanical garden people will return. I just arrived on the groundbreaker and spoke to the customs guy. I had to stop playing at that point because the Packers game was starting. I am enjoying the game so far. The Emerald Vale map was quite small ... I hope the other locations make up for that.

I was trying to think if I even hit the spacebar the last couple times... Guessing not, lol! Thank you for not making me feel stupid ;)

I went straight out of Edgewater into heavy combat on Monarch, which you are repeatedly told you have brain damage if you go there, essentially. I had to go after seeing all the in game resistance and ... It was incredibly difficult with my junk weaponry from Edgewater. Still, I dug in and fought my way through a lot of it, running my ass off as well. Until I started to pickup a couple local weapons and armor that turned the tide.

I am very much enjoying the game. Been a while since I could say that about almost anything.

I can easily confirm that Edgewater was very small compared to other maps/planets/moons etc.

Yes, Monarch, for example, is a massive amount of exploration that I haven't come anywhere near coming completely over. I hadn't even accomplished all the quests there prior to leaving the planet on another mission. The starter map area is intentionally smaller to get the ball rolling and then, from there... it gets a lot bigger and more open worlds (yes, multiple planets) and it starts to feel a lot more like Mass Effect mixed with Fallout.

So far (haven't hit monarch yet, done all the other side quests and planets open) I can say it feels like Edgewater had the biggest map so far.

The only real head-scratcher to me so far, is with companions being invincible outside of Supernova mode. Because it means you can just ignore their health bar and companion-specific perks that boost their survivability. A bomb can fall on them and they just brush themselves off and stand up. Obviously this isn't a new thing because Skyrim and Fallout 3/4 are same way.

Really want a customizable Supernova for second playthrough, to minimize the annoying aspects while making consumables meaningful.

Edit: There's a Mod now: https://www.nexusmods.com/theouterworlds/mods/8

I heard the level cap is
30, so I’m a lot closer to the end than I thought. I’m level 23.
I Just finished spending hours on Monarch, which didn’t quite have the resolution that I wanted
It’s my own damn fault
and I also finished up two of the companion sidequests.

I’m really impressed with how they handled companions in this game, their banter between eachother seems natural, if frustrating at times (Especially if you have Felix and Max together) but they definitely have some real personality.

Did a few things on Scylla, the entire area kinda feels like an afterthought, but it sure is pretty.

Once I got high enough engineering to get random mods from scrapping weapons I've been having a lot more fun with the weapon system as I basically just find the best, most damaging, base model and build whatever I want ontop of that.
Can't wait to get to the engineering level where tinkering is 90% off! Maybe i'll actually be able to use some of those "unique" weapons that cost too many damn bits to tinker up.

Can't wait to see what else the game has to offer and I'll be getting back to it later tonight.

I’ll be getting back to it later today, more than likely.

Think I had 10-12 hrs in the game before I even left the starting area. Am enjoying this game. Interested to return later and see if any of my choices had an impact on the region.

I'm also curious if I can Shrink Ray a main character, and then leave them that way for the rest of the game. Udom, or whatever his nsme is, looks to be a good guinea pig for that experiment.

I finally got a chance to play for more than a few minutes and found that I was also having some issues with stuttering / random hitching despite having high fps. The fix for me was to set the game back to full screen (windowed full screen previously) and in the Nvidia control panel, force ‘Prefer Maximum Performance’. Prior to this I was seeing gpu usage spike between 70% and 85%. Now I’m at 99% and basically stutter free.

The game is really awesome so far, I love how they’ve scattered loot around all the various corners of the map so it feels worth while to explore. Still on the first area so have a lot yet to experience but what I have feels nostalgic and has already got me hooked.
