Bandwidth usage is okay, but not a lot of people were on yesterday. If we get consistent 6 or 8 players like we had day before then I might have an issue.

I should be good to keep it going until we get the main server back up provided no unforeseen disasters prevent getting that going, like issues with Bukkit or continued Internet issues for G1.

I could take over hosting if needs be but I will need some info on plugins and other expected configuration.

LFA

Requirements:
Some linux knowledge (CLI only, no GUI)
Ability to SSH into a remote location
Knowledge of how to configure a MC server + Plugins (Bukkit)
Be available different times of the day to possibly solve issues
Responsible enough to not abuse power in any way

Ability to host is not REQUIRED, just the knowledge to maintain the server.

All applicants will be viewed by the community and chosen as a group, just because you apply doesn't guarantee the job.

What's the bandwidth requirement?

Is Old1e not wanting to host? I mean if he is, then we can just wait until he gets his up.

Also, what do you guys think about buying a host? I have no problem fronting money for a server.

I would like to toss my hat in .

Requirements:
Some linux knowledge (CLI only, no GUI): check
Ability to SSH into a remote location: check
Knowledge of how to configure a MC server + Plugins (Bukkit): rusty but check
Be available different times of the day to possibly solve issues: usually available by e-mail
Responsible enough to not abuse power in any way: hey now, that's asking alot :D

My setup is a Q6600 (stock) with 4GB of RAM running Ubuntu server on a 5.5Mb uplink.

I've run a Bukkit server for a group of friends and coworkers, so I'm very familiar with plugin setup/configuration. We have always stayed as close to vanilla as possible.

I could host in a VM in one of our vSphere servers here at work, 30/15 connection, Ubuntu linux, SSH access for anyone who would need it.

I guess I might as well toss my hat in for this as well. I have ability in all the above........

I like the idea of creative mode for admins so they can repair any griefer attacks, or patch up terrain that's strip mined/destroyed. But ONLY that.

This.

Creative mode to just build stuff on our own on the server removes from the vanilla aspect AGAIN. This is not right.

Creative mode to fix griefer bs, or repair busted terrain, im all for that!

Ok maybe I'm confused... I see host/admins as 2 different things... if we pay for hosting they don't supply admins so I don't see them as the same...

I see positions as:
Host - physically hosts the server
Server Administrator - maintains the servers configs + plugins + updates
Operations Manager - Final say on plugins and how things are handled for the server
Game Administrator - Enforces OM's choices, relays information to all players/mods
Moderator - Makes sure players adhere to the rules, Greifer watch.
Player - digs and builds shit, and doesn't break rules and guidelines.
Greifer - Banned Players.

all different positions...

Ok maybe I'm confused, I thought we were looking for a physcial place for the server, not admins. Are we looking for both, or just admins?

If it's the latter, forget I said anything.

we already have several places that are an option for host, we need server admins to maintain the server. Keep it updated, things like that.

Insom is Operations manager, Nick is doing great for late night stuff, but I know he doesn't have a lot of free time and I don't want to put more then 1 job on a person.

It is the latter. G1 is looking to only be the host, not admin.

I for one am capable of doing the job, but my time is fairly limited. Really to only an hour or two each night. That will change in the near future... but I can't say when (this project I'm on is dragging).

...

arg! anyone got any cure for the damn memory leak! I run a win 7 x64 ultimate and the damn thing goes for like 5-10 minutes then dies. I have dumped and reinstalled x64 java and dumped mincraft and reloaded but it still leaks memory like a sifter trying to hold water!

Forget I said anything then :)

In other news. Between now and Monday I will have my second daughter. It's scheduled for Monday if my wife doesn't go into labor before then.

My time afterward will be quite limited, unfortunately.

Congrats!

I actually had more time to play after my daughter was born. Those 2 weeks I took off from work were oh so tiring. But she slept, ALL the time. So I played, a lot :)

I live in run level 3.
Ability to SSH into a remote location
Pre-shared keys 4tw.
Knowledge of how to configure a MC server + Plugins (Bukkit)
Not too difficult but I'll have to play around with it a bit on a local instance before I'm comfortable with it.
Be available different times of the day to possibly solve issues
I have a full time job so I'm unavailable at certain times. I can remote in from work though.
Responsible enough to not abuse power in any way
Phenomenal Cosmic Power... Itty bitty living space.

So yeah... Bukkit experience and time is the limiting factor for me.

Thanks!!!

Also, I'm not sure I'll have as much time as I had with the first one. While mama cares for the newborn, I have to take care of the 15 month old :)

So now that 1.8 is out... what is the call? new map? What?

So far at this point, it looks like we are gonna do a fresh 1.8 map, with our old 1.7 map as a "temporary" secondary map, just long enough for everyone to get their stuff that they want and thats it!

I am still siding with new map with a portal to the old for migrating out stuff for a bit. Then kill the old map and enjoy 1.8

when 1.9 launches we expand to get those features.

It would be awesome if we could put up the 1.7 map to download and play in single player.

as of the last time i played, the blank sign on chest shit made all my stuff disappear. which i had a lot of stuff. so i have not a lot to carry over personally.

http://bukkit.org/

When they release a new RB with 1.8 features, and all the plugins are ready to go, that's when 1.8 is "out".

They're 85% done, don't think that's an issue.

My question is is more of have we decided. I like the new world + transfer idea.

Do you guys see a problem with making the world REALLY small at first, like say 750x750 or 1000x1000, or even smaller?

Two reasons, gives us more room to expand later, and it will force us to make a nice metropolis at the beginning in the starting area.

I kinda like that idea, a first small area...force people to work together to make a central hub/spawn area. I remember Hashmang did the central spawn area that had four main roads going N-S-E-W. We could do the same to organize the spawn area to help newcomers go to areas which aren't settled. Just talking here though...
