The Official Guild Wars 2 thread

Now that my FPS numbers are better and the game is running smoother I can appreciate it more. Starting to really get into it. Divinity's Reach is truly awesome and put's the other cities to shame IMO. I might roll human on release just due to the city.

I am getting super smoother 96 FPS using my adaptive VSync on my 4-way SLI GTX 680 setup in Surround in PvP mini-games. GPU's are still only being used 30-40% but as long as it's smooth I don't care.

I really like the Ranger class but I fear far too many people will play it. :(

Seems like a mouthful. ;)

Where the heck is everyone? I am level 9 and the human areas are desolate. Is there some awesome leveling somewhere I am not aware of? PvP is filled, but was wanting to do some quests.

edit -- heck, now I can't find anyone in WvWvW...

I've been running around for an hour in the three different starting areas, as well as the WvWvW areas, and have seen not one single other player...

Might be your sever, mine seems down at the moment. Don't be surprised if you get kicked and are rolled back on your return.

Graphics - meh, Rift's are much better.
Polished? Not even close.
Fun - Definitely

Yeah I cant get on either...

Yeah this is really fun.
Def needs more polishing...
Graphics I think are great for a beta MMORG. They are still using DX9. By launch they will be using DX11 and the graphics will be even better.

The graphics really pop for me. Love the underwater system!

I think it looks better than Rift.
Overall it's polished other than huge server problems (which were expected).

All in all, I like the game.

How long have the servers been down? I haven't been able to connect for a couple hours now.

It seems like they must have hot-fixed in some graphics updates? Things seem to be running much smoother for me now...I don't think it's my imagination.

This game is amazing though, I'm having a blast! The weapon based skill system is really cool.

Yes, the patched something earlier today and my SLI Surround is pretty smooth now. Right when the beta started it was awful.

I'm running 5760x1080 with a 4.5Ghz 2600k and 680 SLI and the performance is excellent.

I suspect I will get an easy 60fps all the time once it's optimized.

side note, VEGA, did you ever post pics of everything on your build finalized?

Still more stuff to do!

If anyone is bored and or not in the beta and would like to see what GW2 Surround looks like:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jsX7ogE8Nhg

Make sure to view in 720P.

Guild Wars 2 is as good as I thought it would be, and one of the main reasons I created this unique NVIDIA Surround setup.

Sorry about the black borders between the screens, I do not have a wide-angle video camera lens to accurately capture the seam-less image of the lenses at this time. To see that effect in action, please view the Fresnel Lens video in my channel. In a normal playing/seating position, the three images come together to create one "world" image and the Fresnel lenses add a slight depth effect. It is like looking through a large window out into the world and makes for one amazing gaming experience.

As you can see in the video, SLI is not working properly (developers are working on fix). It is only using around one GTX 680's worth of processing power, but it will read around 3x 33% as it has to send the frames to three different cards in this Surround setup.

My 4th EVGA GTX 680 malfunctioned and I have a replacement on the way. Amazingly, as you can see in the video it runs pretty darn smooth.

I do a quick tour of Divinity's Reach, the most impressive city I've ever seen in any MMORPG. Then I head out to the World vs World vs World area called the "Mists". Here you get bumped up to level 80 but you can see my Ranger still has noob clothes and skills. You still need to level up to properly play WvWvW. I chase some player down and they go hide in the fort as we try and smash the door down. Those doors are pretty strong and take a good while to destroy so I switch over to a PvP "mini-game".

Now in the PvP mini-games, you get leveled to 80 but you also get 80 PvP armor and skills. Here you can see some of the cool effects. I was playing off to the side craning my neck so the camera had a good view. Don't laugh at my playing skill because of this! ;)

The PvP mini-game plays very well and I think I even managed a kill in there somewhere. I am glad I pre-purchased the collectors edition. GW2 is shaping up to be quite the game.

very very nice

Yea no kidding. Wish I still had enough give a shit to throw a setup together like that. Just spend $450 on a new grill though. The game is awesome though! Been messing around on it a bit this weekend and pre purchased the DDE the first day we could. Can't wait for launch!

There'a a lot more grinding than in GuildWars 1 and I don't yet feel the sense of exploration and discovery I sometimes did with GuildWars 1. It's not a bad game, but it's certainly not the original. I will always miss dual classing, too. Removing this mechanic destroyed much of what I found so appealing about the first game.

Lot more grinding? I take it you are not doing any of the HoM stuff on GW1 then? :p

They are trying to make it easier at the end to get groups for stuff IMO, making everyone able to take care of themselves without having to have a R/Mo, W/Mo etc etc.

I only made it to 12, but I really don't think there is any grinding so far. I just realized that I stopped my main story at level 5 and have been caught up in side stories and event since then. In the end it will of course take longer to max out since the level cap is so much higher.

The event system is one of my favorite. I love that you can be walking by someplace and a monster will appear and everyone just jumps in.

So far I find there is a better sense of community, less relative grind, and a very enjoyable story line.

The commerce hub is still on the fence. I love the buy/sell feature but the buying in game currency is still questionable...

Tried WvWvW today for the first time, and it is easily one of my most favorite things to do in all of gaming. It took all I had to give the game to my daughter to play a bit. It's like Alterac Valley x1000+1.

I'm really hoping we get a more optimized version for the next beta, and I was pleasantly surprised to see it run so well on my daughters c2d 6750/8800gtx machine. Now I know I need to prebuy another copy when they become available again.

Does anyone know where the banks are in the beta?

There's one in Divinity's Reach in the upper level right at the 6 o'clock position under the central royal circle. If you zone to the minister's waypoint, the bank is right there.

And I also got very fluid framerates after the login servers went back up. However, I wonder if the framerates is tied to server overload or maybe maps being processed in the background. When I first logged in, the framerate was very choppy, worse I'd seen. However, after I stepped away from the computer for about an hour but stayed logged on, it was really really smooth. Just logged in not too long ago and having the same jiggery framerate again. Wonder if it will smooth out eventually.

I wish they would bring back traditional questing AND the event system.
It seems like that's how the current system is, to me at least. I think of Hearts as traditional questing, but then you run into Events on the way or while doing them.

Now I know I need to prebuy another copy when they become available again.

They made this announcement 12 hours ago, "Digital sales in North America have resumed @ http://buy.guildwars2.com. We determined we could increase capacity to support more players ^RB"

Anyone know if characters made in this beta weekend will still be there for the next beta weekend?

I think so. I was invited into a clan about 6hrs after Beta started and there was a lvl 30 in the clan. So im thinking he got that high from previous a previous beta.

They will be wiped before launch though

My toons from the stress test were wiped before the beta weekend.

Edit: Performance is terrible in this game. 2500k, 460GTX and I get 20 FPS in lions arch no matter what the graphics settings are.

As has been stated numerous times by the devs they are working on fixing the optimization.

Anyone know if they are going to have an open beta that doesn't require pre-ordering? I wouldn't mind trying it out, but I'm not gonna pre-order to do so.
