If the beta is starting this friday and pre-orders get you in, I may just have to pre-order this before friday.
Yea I saw reports around that it comes out later this month just dont know what to believe just want to make sure I get into it cant wait for this game
not even close to likely. the earliest i would say to look for full release is july. idk why people say june or may....not much time for multiple beta weekends before launch.
personally i was thinking november since NCSoft might want to exploit that holiday rush.
IDK, they've stated that the beta weekend events will start at the end of April. So, even if they don't start this weekend and the release date of 6/26 is true ... that still gives them 8 full weekends before headstart launch. Seems like plenty of time for what can probably be considered an "open beta" for those that pre-purchased.
I am sure once Open Beta actually hits and people fill up this thread with non-NDA feedback, the feasibility of any particular date will be a lot more clear. 8 full weeks of development on a major MMO really isn't much time. Heck Blizzard had some patches on their test server for almost 8 weeks as they tried to hammer out problems.
Also SWTOR is almost 4 months old and still has major problems. ArenaNet could be throwing down the gauntlet here and committing themselves to not launching a shitty MMO and then patching the hell out of it later.
Arenanet is a better developer of online games by a large margin. they've changed alot of GW2 since it was first shown to the public, they've taken feedback from game conventions to heart and made changes based on that and they all have much more(and reliable) experience in the field than bioware austin, which is made up of ultra arrogant EA/Mythic people and college students.
the backbone of many network systems for blizzard games is still the stuff that mike o'brien coded. look at the credential for the lead staff(blizzards classic games, WoW, P&P rpg's, PHD's in literature vs bioware austin lead writers being english majors).
that said, yes they are trying to launch the game as polished and problem free as possible. it's not coming out in 2 months(even when they feel it is in launch shape, NCSoft will look to exploit the best launch window possible, so if the game is "done" for them in june, it may still get pushed back. chris lye has pretty much confirmed that with his littl "well we'll also look at seasonal advantages" line.
FYI, the wording of the FAQ on their site has changed and there will be no open beta whatsoever. it will be beta weekends, with no NDA but it's not the same as a open beta ala TERA, tribes, etc.
Could someone fill me in here?
Never played the first GW, but what I am hoping for is well balanced RvR type pvp similar to Warhammer online. Will GW2 be similar to this?
And I heard something about being able to be max level right from the start for pvp or something like that, how does that work?
@fanaticdamen Yes, you're free to do that starting with the first Beta Weekend Event at the end of this month. Enjoy! ~RB2 #GuildWars2
Just pre-ordered my copy. I hope my 2500k/4870x2 can handle this game turned up.
Is anyone allowed to talk about anything from any BETA content played at any time with GW2?
I could swear I've seen people who've played in some of GW2's BETA talking about it without breaking the NDA.
In practical terms a closed beta test involving thousands to tens of thousands of individuals spread worldwide in which you have limited personal information on is basically not enforceable.
That's... pretty much what I've always though about the situation. How would they even know?
Someone couldn't even discuss how the visuals look, or how the gameplay feels?
I've been in past BETA events. I could offer information regarding certain things that I'd only give to actually support the game, and help others decide if it's worth the pre-purchase etc. but I haven't said a word because of the NDA, though I cant see how they'd even know in the first place.
Though I've seen no one here discuss their experiences, which made me more wary of saying anything, even if it was in support of the game.
This is what they'll due. (If they wanted)
They contact Hardforum (or wherever you make the post at) with a court order stemming from the NDAs demanding Hardforum turn over all information related to your account that would be relevant to the uncovering of who you are. This will start the paper trail.
They could then get court orders to whatever other database or forum that the paper trials leads to. They would of course cross check all names, email addressed, addresses, etc found with the ones they have on file. If you played GW1 or registered for the beta or bought GW2 they would likely have your information. Once they make the connection that could punish you under the NDA.
Chances are they would never do such a thing because A. would be terribly expensive and B. it would not look to hot for them to make headlines before the launch of the game.
Nonetheless, if they wanted to they could. I would hate to be the person they decided to make an example out of because they wanted to send an example to everyone else.

Are there set-in-stone dates for these weekends?

As many have predicted, the first weekend beta event will be from April 27-29.

I do have to ask, do you think that we will be able to use the characters in the beta for the full game?
How...? Any large game wipes beta characters before release. This has been this way for years and it makes a ton of sense to do so.A little depressing bout losing your character
Each profession has a heal-self ability (hotkey 6). Some professions have support abilities to heal other party members, but AFAIK, they don't heal for much.Any new on how healing is going to work this game? I know their is no class dedicated to healing so that will be a little different

That's not entirely accurate. Glyph of Renewal, which is a revive skill, does in fact target allies unless you're in earth attunement in which case it looks like it picks 3 around you. Also there are no abilities that actually target allies, any sort of buff or heal or ability that helps allies will either be applied by the ally being close to me or the target when I cast it OR will be a ground target ability that my ally will need to run into.
