The Official Borderlands 2 Thread

So I finished d/l'ing the game at 11:30 PM PST last night and hopped on, of course "only to play the intro." :D 2:00 AM rolls around and I have to get off and go to bed. Hit level 6 as zero and having a blast; I probably should have done a stat calculator to do my build first, the entry level skills are all so useful. However my ultimate goal is the ability that looks like you can just chain decoy kills - each time you get a kill with the decoy out, it puts out another decoy and resets your timer, I can't wait to just ninja kill a whole camp! :D I finally got a sniper rifle from one of the early Hammerlock quest lines, logged off after that so haven't gotten to use it. Think I'll go with a sniper rifle/range, then decoy/shotgun to the back of the head build. My next char (many hours from now!) will probably be Axton.

So far without even loading the new Crossfire profiles, I'm running at 2560x1600, everything maxed except PhysX on Low, and everything feels very smooth. Haven't run FRAPS yet, so don't know my FPS, but feeling no jitter or FPS lag at all. Very happy, unless I start to run into issues I don't think I'll even update my drivers.

Game is a hell of a lot of fun, you get the old Borderlands 2 feel but the GFX seem a bit more detailed, streaming issues aside. The humor is still fresh and quite funny, they definitely recapture the violent irreverance of the first one. Handsome Jack's dialogue with you early in the game is hilarious. Can't wait to get home!

having never played the original B2 seems way too easy...even if you die you respawn with the enemies all having the same amount of damage as before you died...so there's no penalty for dying

Anyone else (on a 580) keep having the game just randomly stop working? I'll be playing fine, then I get alt tabbed out of the game (it freezes up, then alt tabs out) and the game just "stops responding" and I have to ctrl alt del out.

3 hours of butter smooth gaming last night on my 560TI 448. Check temps especially with Physx turned on.

Welcome to Borderlands where realistic gaming mechanics are thrown out the window and replaced with humor, fun and replay. Who cares. Enjoy yourself and don't take the game too seriously.

The other UI problem is that when they went into "fixing" the UI to actually work with scrolling and the mouse, it actually made some of it harder to use. Trying to sell weapons using the mouse is a bigger pain in the ass than the keyboard, because the selected gun wants to jump around, and sometimes you won't see the stats on the thing you are selling.

I don't know why they couldn't add a simply button to the quest UI for completing the quest. I feel like I am just off clicking all over hell until the quest actually turns in.

This sounds annoying since there is so much loot management to do. Being able to control the menu via keyboard was so nice. Particularly problematic that it becomes difficult to see stats on inventory... arghhh sounds real freaking silly.

That is odd...I played some original Borderlands recently and it seemed like after you die the enemies in a given area either respawn or have full health again. To be fair, though, it was really irritating when you got far into an area and then had to fight through all the same guys again, especially if you get a Badass enemy down to almost no health, die, and then have to fight it all over again.

enemies do respawn when you return to an area you previously cleared but during a battle the enemies you killed stay dead and the boss keeps the same damage...so you can die 10 times and still chip away at the boss's health...really is ridiculously easy but like a poster above mentioned this is just meant as shooter porn and nothing more

I will chime in and say so far I find the inventory management frustrating, particularly when shopping. It only compares the items you're shopping with against your equipped weapon. Also when looking at equipped vs inventory, often the stats of the gun completely cover the other gun you're trying to look at. I'm sure I'll figure it out eventually, but it seems to be designed to minimize screen interface. I'm playing at 2560x1600, feel free to just show them side by side!

You do lose a chunk of money every time though, EDIT: 7%. Doesn't seem like much but do that 10 times and you lose half of your money, which can suck when a good item shows up in the vending machines you can no longer afford.

Played for about 30 minutes earlier today as Zero. Seems like a fun little game, although I'm a little confused by the Equipment UI. Is there a manual out there to download?

yeah that seems to be the only real penalty

Are there any 2560x1600 gamers that can chime in with their performance results on max settings (without a dedicated PhysX card)?

I'm using one 680GTX and wondering how it will perform all pimped out with PhysX on high. Not concerned about enabling anti-aliasing.

Ok, read the whole article...THIS is what the author actually wants in a new game.

At twice that price, though, I think it’s fair for players to demand the whole magilla – cutting-edge development, engrossing campaign gameplay, scads of downloadable content, a rich social media/community experience, sharing of loot and gear and online multiplayer modes that keep you and your friends coming back until the next version of the game comes out.

Let me sad-puke my face off...this guy is why publishers keep putting out tired crap. Also, did he miss the campaign, sharing of loot/gear that's right on the main menu...?!

That is the dumbest fucking article of all time! The writer needs to learn that RPG and CoD aren't the same thing. Just because they give you a gun doesn't mean that the game is about arena warfare.

Hurr durr, I can't haz 50 player deathmatch? Game not like all other games! Game sucks!

I have to agree with alot of others that my only complaint is the map/inventory/skill screen is not so user friendly other than that i'm loving it. Co-op seems to work alot better than the first and also push to talk! I also didn't think I would like the more cartoonish graphics but I think the game looks better than the first.

This might be the dumbest ass gaming related article I can recall in recent memory.

I only got through the first couple paragraphs, but this was painful to read. Especially this:

The sequel to the highly acclaimed 2009 Borderlands game goes on shelves Tuesday in Xbox 360, PS3 and PC versions for around $60. At that price point, the first-person shooter, published by 2K Games, inevitably invites comparisons with the Halos and Calls of Duty games already out and due to come in the next few weeks and months.

Sooo, because a game is an FPS and costs $60, it should be "inevitably" compared to Halo and Call of Duty?

Is this guy serious? On crack? I think he got a bad batch.

but this isn’t the type of deeply engrossing FPS game the headset-wearing COD crowds gather to play months and months after release

I think that's the point.

LOL @ this sentence in the article:

Guess if it doesn't have killstreaks, perks, and customizable weapon kits it isn't deeply engrossing.

Boy if I could get paid to write down stupid opinionated shit...

What the fuck is wrong with this world?

It's not even so much that it's opinionated as that it's just nonsense. Clearly the game is shit because it's not "deeply engrossing" like Call of Duty. Oh, it's cool, we can compare the two games because they're the same thing due to the fact that they both cost $60.

Oh, don't feel too sorry for ol' CL4P-TP. He's an evil sumbitch.

Oh no! I didn't play through the first game and only a bit of BL2 so far. What's wrong with my robot buddy?

Say it isn't so!

I seem to see a lot of this crap popping up, "blogs" and "review sites" spouting off this shit, as if the person reviewing the game is a a so-called 'expert/professional' and claims he's got a lot of experience under his belt, therefore he'd be a solid knowledgeable source of info. for whatever game. All it boils down to in the end is that nobody gives a shit, but they're still paid to write it. Which makes me sick.

I feel kinda dumb about it but Im gonna pick it up today I think. I havent played General Knoxx or Revolution :(

The shopping/equipment management UI is easily the worst thing about the game. Frankly, it is worse than it was in Borderlands 1, and in Borderlands 1 it was terrible. I really don't want to fight the UI when I am trying to sell shit and figure out which weapon is better.

Really hope they fix it.

I run 2560x1600 with one 6970, seems smooth but I haven't looked how to check the FPS.

i7-920, 6GB ram, Agility3 SSD, and a 6970.

I'll check the settings if I don't get pulled into playing for 11 hours after work today. ;)

If you start a new campaign with the same character you already have leveled up, do you keep all your equipment as well? Can't remember how the original handled it.

Me and my buddies made it up to I think chapter 3 or 4, but it was a little hectic with everyone running around grabbing sidequests and turning them in (similar complaint I had about the first game) and was considering restarting with same character and soloing up to the same point so I don't miss any more of the funny quest dialogue and such. Might seem silly to some but I'm the type of guy who can't stand missing a single second of a movie because I'm afraid I'd miss something cool or important.

The hate-filled responses are rolling in now on the article. Rather funny watching it all unfold. Sadly, they will probably see a huge jump in ad revenue and continue spouting their BS because it's practically click-bait.

Well, bad news for me.

Seems I'm CPU limited with my 3770k @ 4.4ghz.

I can't maintain 120fps. It dips down into the 70's in some spots. High or Low graphics changes nothing, CPU is pegged at 25% (basically 2 threads) and my overclocked 7970 is hovering at 40% usage.

Game is fun either way. Just a bit disappointed by this performance.

Yeah, the 100 some odd hours or so I got out of the first one doesn't mean anything. Nothing engrossing going on there.
