I took mine on a skiing trip a few months ago. Here are a couple examples. The rope on the second one gives you a pretty good reference for resolution.

No oversampling at full resolution. That's just not possible. I wouldn't say the quality at 8MP is better, but it's far more practical and more than sufficient. The 8MP images it produces are better than any other cell phone out there by a very large margin. Taking full resolution photos is unfortunately considerably slower and they take up 10-15mb of space each.Do these full-sized shots have oversampling to increase the quality? Do you get even better quality pics if you reduce the resolution to 8MP?

If you're not shooting in low light much, it does make for one hell of contender. Nokia really outdid themselves there. Thanks for sharing.
Owning a DSLR is now pointless for me.

Large apertures are much easier on smaller sensor sizes. The lens has to be proportionally larger. They don't want it too big. Even with a smaller aperture, the larger sensor size is going to compensate for that and let you shoot at a higher ISO without (as much) loss of quality. The lens on the 808 is f/2.4 and lets in considerably more light than the lens on the 720.Well we have f1.9 even in the Lumia 720 which gives excellent low light performance, so what prevents Nokia from using a bigger aperture in the 1020 too?
nokia needs to make a better model name. 920 921 1020 ect are not good as iphone, galaxy, one.
It's closer to DSLR and m4/3 than a P&S actually in terms of quality. I posted some examples if you'd like to see. If anything, it will only be better than the 808.Interested on how it will compare to flagship compact p&s. If it's somewhere near it then I'd be willing to switch over from Android. Then again knowing Android it'll probably have a competing phone a month or two later.
Should have a better resolution display than the 808 at least... Isn't the 808 <720p?
In tests the 808 actually won the cheapest DSLR's.It's closer to DSLR and m4/3 than a P&S actually in terms of quality. I posted some examples if you'd like to see. If anything, it will only be better than the 808.
you mean like... lumia?!
well.... yes but it is still confusing...... you don't go up to your friends and say hey I got a lumia. There used to be a one x and one s now there is just one.

There is nothing confusing about it. Iphone uses similar naming scheme. Name and number (and sometimes they add letter after number). Bigger number = high end. Samsung has Galaxy lineup with all kinds of suffixes. Lumia naming scheme is as simple as it gets.
A camera that is better than any P&S and you are still disappointed demanding betterA bit disappointed that the phone. The new pure-view WP8 seems more like a lumia 920 with the 808 pure view camera. I'll probably wait until next generation lumia 1030 with WP9
Hopes with WP9 lumia 1030
Quad core
3GB of RAM
1080p 5" display
microsdcard slot (with the size of the photos this is a must)
67MP pure-view camera
5MP front facing camera with AF and LED light
3300mAh battery
A camera that is better than any P&S and you are still disappointed demanding better![]()
