The Nintendo Switch 2 Thread

I finally got home to mine over the weekend. It's interesting, but I'd say it feels like just more of the same things I liked/disliked about the original Switch. I liked how easy it was to transfer all of my games over from the original system. Only took just a few minutes and they all seem to work fine. For what it's worth, the AC adapter/cable from the Switch 1 won't work with this one - I tried to use the same cables to no avail. The new Pro controller feels incredible. It still lacks analog triggers, but everything else about it = maybe the best I've ever held. The handheld itself is every bit as bulky as I figured. The odds of me ever traveling with this thing are pretty slim. Mine will probably stay docked and forever waiting for a handful of Nintendo exclusives to come out.

Mario Kart World is good, but I feel a bit disappointed with it. The open world stuff feels almost pointless. The game seems to still revolve around the core race mode. I'm sure that's what I'd end up playing the most, but I was hoping for something closer to Burnout or Forza. Instead it's like the two modes are totally separate. The racing mechanics don't feel different enough from the 11 year old MK8. Yeah, I know about the jumping and wall riding stuff, but that's super situational. If anything, the fucking mushrooms = the biggest key to winning. Like 1/2 of the tracks have massive portions you can bypass with them. After playing it for a few hours with a buddy who has been playing with me since MK1, we both said "it's more Mario Kart" and shrugged. I think we were hoping for something akin to Double Dash and we got MK8.5 instead. The AI is also annoying AF. If you play like you know what you're doing, they're brutal with the last second blue shells to knock you from 1st to 5th. If you don't drift or play intelligently, it's like they have pity on you.

Mine arrived today. Transferred everything over. I only play docked and don't care about using it as a portable. Games definitely looked sharper. I guess the load times were better, but I've gotten too used to the PS5, PC, and Xbox Series that loading still feels super slow on the Switch 2.

Something really odd I've discovered is that the Switch 2 seems to mess with my TV's color settings. After using the Switch 2, everything else that's using the same color settings (which I setup) looks washed out. Not so horrible that you notice immediately, but it's like the contrast is dialed back like 25%. Non-HDR Switch games look like that all the time, but HDR ones look fine. The only way to fix this once it starts seems to be to full-on turn my TV off. I've seen some mentions about the Switch 2 having screwy HDR, so I'm betting that's the culprit.

This just came into my feed.. seems there's def some HDR issues on the S2.

Definitely a major issue, if staring at the image causes such facial expressions. And that's only the cosmetics; imagine what it must be doing to the brains.
How they manage to screw something up like HDR... not like it is some new tech that just came out, there are standards and methods....ugh Nintendo..

The HDR thing is starting to piss me off. It seems to trick my TV into putting everything into this weird other color space that's tough to get it out of. Not just for the S2, but for literally everything. I have to toggle inputs, power it off/on, toggle the color space in the Nvidia panel, etc. Even with all those things, sometimes it still doesn't seem to work. I might try the service menu stuff that kills auto dimming and color adjustment entirely at this rate.

Insert AI image of Mario jumping on a goomba with “standards and methods” written on it.
21st century Mario and Luigi are definitely high speed internet installers. Just replace the plungers with cable meters like Spielberg did in ET with the walked talkies.

Welcome to the future where Nintendo screws over you wallet AND your TV.

Amazon Italy finally got some in stock and I was able to order the Mario Kart bundle for €509. Dunno why Amazon (shipped and sold by) marked it up by €9, but I will get VAT refunded to me and will ultimately get it for about $457 at the current exchange rate, so still a "good" deal. I'll have it arrive on Saturday it says.

I think I'll keep my OLED around still for my daughter to play and for less demanding titles with much better battery life. I only played docked for several years, but I've been traveling more the past few years and playing portably more often. But lately it's been on a Steam Deck.

Now I just need to find a grip case for it. Grips were a requirement for the Switch so my hands don't go numb after 10 mins, and assume the same here.

Nintendo will take your Switch 2 offline forever if you use a Mig flash cartridge

Whether you’ve used one to play pirated games, or to play copies of games that you own, Nintendo’s stance on the matter is broad: It considers both to be violations of its user agreements...the makers of the Mig cartridge have taken reasonable efforts to distance itself from what a majority of buyers will likely do with it, which is play pirated games...

Apparently Switch 2 isn't selling all that well here locally. Already discounted massively compared to the price I paid. At least 200$ less (still overpriced compared to US by about a 100$).
Tons of stock too.

If you want to keep online services for both the Original Switch and the Switch 2 do you need x2 online subs?

I never realized that they already increased the screen when they went OLED. I have 2 switch and both are the og versions. I might sell them both and get an OLED one as a backup.

Was watching my son play Zelda and honestly, it finally looks like a game worth watching. Feels crisp, runs at 60 fps and looks pretty cool.
The size difference was pretty apparent when I bought my OLED version.
Same here, there was a whole pile of units yesterday. Even though it is overpriced but you can still find deals and plenty of switch 2 available.

Think because of not having a must play game, they really might have botched this release.
Yeah, I was looking at the games today and saw nothing I wanted. I don't even think I'll buy the console for Metroid since it's a Switch '1' game.

That, and it seems like third-party games are struggling except for Cyberpunk 2077. That would lead me to believe people don't want the game keys since Cyberpunk is the only one with the full game on the SD card.

Now I've verified that all my games work fine on the Switch 2, I can safely ditch my original model. I was a little concerned there might be some issues, but so far everything seems to be running fine.

They greatly improved the system transfer process. Even moves the animal crossing save unlike before.

All the stores around me have switch 2 on hand, best buy, walmart, gamestop etc. I thought this thing was selling like hotcakes.

What a flop of a console!
lol totally
seems that we can get em no prob but not so much in japan?

"In April, Nintendo’s Bowser told CNBC that the company had been working with “retail partners to ensure there’s ample supply for not only the launch weekend, but well beyond.”

However, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa stated the same month that 2.2 million people in Japan had entered the lottery to purchase the Switch 2 on launch day, exceeding expectations and what the company had initially planned to deliver to stores.

Kantan Games’ Toto said shortages in Japan were expected to persist, but would be less impactful elsewhere.

“Except for Japan where demand for Switch 2 is extraordinarily high, it looks like fans who really want the console and invest time in trying to secure one actually can get one,” he said. “It might take a while, but as far as can be monitored, supply seems to be more robust than around the launch of the original Switch in 2017.”"

Not sure how their queue worked, but they sent me an email a couple weeks ago, and got mine last week.

I think their priority were the retail stores, then their online store. As if they purposely set up this launch to try to battle scalpers (as Japan isn't nearly as prone to scalpers as the USA & Europe), which I give them props.

Unfortunately most of the scalpers will be able to do a return since it’s under 30 days, but most made no money which is a win. Checking inventory levels a lot of places around the country have standing inventory based off a shipment yesterday, and I’m sure the scalper demand has completely fallen off which is why inventory is lasting longer now. All the gamestops and targets around me got 20-30 yesterday, and still have inventory today.

Just curious where are you seeing them having standing inventory? i see nothing anywhere around me in ohio. Only ones i see are on ebay for $700+ :(

Try using popfindr, I have no clue what it is accessing, but it shows accurate inventory whereas the store website will show nothing for some reason.

They want you to come into the store to check to try and get you to buy other stuff while you're there.

i see only one store (gamestop) has '2' in stock, but its 55 miles away lol. still this is much easier/faster way to check, thanks!

I think the availability of Switch 2's on shelves varies quite a bit by area. There are pretty much 0 in my area (Denver metro) but there were definitely some sitting on shelves in semi-rural parts of the southeast last week. I saw 'em sitting there (for 2 weeks) at Wal-Mart myself and one of my friends bought one straight off the shelf for his kids, too.

Springs is filled with them now, and I suspect Denver stores will get stock today since the main fedex center is in the springs not Denver.

Got mine in today and set it up and its been good so far after transferring everything over from the OLED. Annoyingly my daughter has been playing Animal Crossing on it lately, so I had to immediately transfer her data back to the OLED with the AC data transfer app because it doesn't support cloud saves with NSO. Which is also throwing a wrench into my account/service, because she's been playing on my profile instead of hers on the OLED and if she's playing it at the same time as I try to play ANY game while connected online, one of us gets booted off the game. I would just get here a physical copy of the game, but that doesn't solve the online prob of her wanting to use the online features of the game that her child account doesn't have. I am actually subbed to the NSO family plan too, but all of my spots are already full, so I would have to boot someone off.

So I figured I'd just play TotK offline while she is playing AC, but you know what it did..? Since I only have the S2 Zelda upgrades "free" through NSO w/ expansion pack, it has to validate I own the game upon every boot, so I can't play it offline! Dafuq.. It actually did let me play, but booted into the S1 version of the game capped at 30 FPS, lol.

I thought maybe it was because my Switch 2 isn't the primary system on the account, as it worked before the new virtual game card system came out. But I don't see any options for that in my account settings now in the eShop. Googling it now, it seems I have to de-register my OLED in order to force the S2 to be the primary. That better work.. I'll try later when she's not playing it, but this DRM shit is insane.
