Indeed, to me or reminds me of the military promotion boards. Some soldiers really need all the points they can get to promote in their job role (MOS) and even if they nail their board, some leaders say "no one is perfect" and they fuck them out of a promotion for it.

OT I know, but that's mainly why I hate the "nothing is perfect" scoring mentality, esp. when it comes to subjective media or experiences like we've discussed here.
 
exactly...don't take the score so literally...it's more important to read their actual impressions of the game or hardware...a 10/10 doesn't mean it's perfect...it can still have flaws...same way a 6/10 game can have some really excellent aspects

In media and subjective experiences, I don't think a "score" or "rating" is really relevant.

It's not like the purity of gold, or answers on a test... A good story or experience or gameplay loop is entirely subjective to who it resonates with. That's not to say you can't have a measure and estimation on the quality of execution, but even a flawlessly executed experience can ring hollow for some..

I think Elden Ring and Expedition 33 are some of the most amazing, hopeful, passion-fuelled pieces of art I've experienced in the last decade. absolute 11/10s in my book.

But I would NOT recommend them to everyone, and I completely understand when someone simply cannot connect to those experiences.

For others, Zelda BW/TK reignited their love for games and exploring a world in ways other games simply couldn't inspire. For me, they were decent 8/10 experiences, but obviously they didn't resonate with me in the same way.

For yet others, there are those intense moments in FIFA or NBA games that bring tremendous joy to their whole week. I simply can't relate, but I don't think their experiences are lesser.
 
Besides EGM reviews from back in the day (where '10' was near perfect and '5' was average) - I get most of my "reviews" these days by reading opinions in the forum here and not from 'professionals'.

Also, I'm surprised Nintendo kept that it was the Odyssey team working on DK Bananza under wraps for so long - that would've created instant hype from the get go.
 
Picked it up and played about 4 hours already after work. It’s an incredible game. I’m not sure why they didn’t hype this game up more and make it the launch title. Not that switch 2 is selling bad though.

Personally enjoying it more than I did odyssey. The destruction gameplay is just outstanding, and there is shit everywhere to find along with a seemingly endless stream of new levels you end up on. I also really think it’s cool how the “levels” are literal giant levels in the game world that interconnect seamlessly with each other.

Been hearing this sentiment all over the place. I'm going to pick it up soon, but still working on other switch games at the moment. Looking forward to it a lot though!

Odyssey was a huge let down for me TBH, I played through 75 percent of it and forgot to finish the game I was so bored. All of the challenge in Mario games has been non-existent since the Wii U game with purple coin challenges. Galaxy 2 was really the last Mario game I loved. I love DK games though, looking forward to the Swtich 2 OLED in 2028.

The final level of Odyssey (the one located on the far side of the moon) was a beast of a challenge. That level took me way too many tries to complete.
 
Glad to hear the glowing reviews of DK. Guess I'll pickup the S2 again this weekend :)

Pretty much same here with Odyssey. I'm not sure why though, as it seems like a very competent Mario game, but it just didn't grab me somehow like Sunshine did, which admittedly is the last Mario game I've fully played through. I've been wanting to play through Galaxy at some point since I have it in the All Stars collection, though I've heard many times that Galaxy 2 is peak Mario and the best game in the series. Maybe I'm just not as into platformer games as I used to be for whatever reason. I'm still interested in picking up DK here at some point though.

Sunshine was great. It was sorta linear, but inside each area you could pretty much do whatever you want as long as you were equipped for it. The puzzles were difficult but not impossible, and there were a bunch of cool secrets. And the sprayer was a fun, if a bit frustrating at times, mechanic.

Dunno about galaxy 2, but the first one was not that. It was less like an adventure/puzzle rpg and more like a platformer. That's not a bad thing, it's just different. Sunshine was more like SM64, whereas galaxy is more like SMB3...on balls.
 
Lego Gameboy came out which is just a real Lego, a toy, so nothing like a real Gameboy console and new/old Gameboy games.
 
My son already rolled the end credits on Donkey Kong Bananza. Game seems like it was very good but I am not sure if I will ever indulge. He enjoyed it quite a lot so I am happy that it wasn't a waste. :)
 
Pretty useless event. No Elden ring or hollow knight release date announcement which is lame.
 
I've been playing DK on and off since release. It's pretty fun but repetitive... it nails that JUST ONE MORE oops it's 3 hours later kinda thing. I thought the collectibles would be a slog until I figured out the treasure maps hah.
 
How is the battery life on the Switch 2? My Switch reg. drains like crazy. I get a hour of Gameplay and I'm like at 64% battery.

Been playing the switch 2 version of Kirby forgotten world. It’s pretty awesome. Actually enjoying it more than DK.
 
I want one but oled the store I work for has them in stock daily. I'll just use my OG switch oled untill it happens. The rumor where 2027 for the oled version is not good news. I mean if the Switch 2 isn't selling well why keep making lcd switch? Maybe with a two year gap nobody will be able to return the lcd version.
 
Because there is no way to play Virtual Boy games the way they're meant to without original hardware.
 
Why would anyone buy that crap? No one even wanted it 30 years ago when it originally came out. It gave me a headache playing it for 5 minutes at the store demos.
 
I looked up sales data at work for number of switch 2s sold in the past month average about 5 -7 a week only. Not enough to keep the store afloat but anything helps. Cases are stacked to the brim I would buy one in a heartbeat if it was oled. Sticking to my OG oled switch till then.
