The next NFS installment: Shift

What is the best / fastest car that you can buy/upgrade? Using the numerical scale on the right as an indicator of overall performance - does anyone know the best upgraded car in terms of highest number? I know the zonda is 20.5 and my friend says a Murcialgo is 20.99 - is there anything better/faster/higher ?

sweet i found one for $22 bucks
i will just get it for pc since its alot cheaper

how is the online experience for the pc ?
is there alot of people to race ?

Downloaded the demo, setup my controls and graphics, started the game and can't see a thing. Typical EA crap lol.

I'm running a 4890 and I have a lot of trouble at the beginning of the race when all the cars are at the starting line. As soon as there is a collision I'm at slideshow fps. Oh, and I'm running medium graphic settings....

I have a few more races to go in tier 5 and then I'll just use this to race some friends online - but I need to start in on GRID.

It's very fun online. However, there can be pricks that just turn the game into bumper cars. I am slowly finding really cool people and starting to play with only them.

Great game overall! I rarely buy games, this is the first one I bought since L4D.

I get disconnected about 2 mins into any race on the PC online. I have setup all the port forwarding rules per the manual, still no luck though =( I dont have issues like this with any other game i play online.

yes the mucialgo is the highest rated i have seen so far. i think the AWD system is what gives it the slight edge over the zonda.

The car with the biggest rating boost from a conversation though i think is the lotus elise, goes from like 5.5 to 17.2. it's such a bad ass car. my favorite for twisting tracks.

Is it just me, or are the Tier 4 cars really, really hard to drive? I'm doing fine in Tier 2 and 3, but when I've done the Tier 4 invitational events I can't compete at all - can't even keep the cars on the track. Using a wheel (Momo) but it seems like the cars can't corner at all (especially compared to their speed).

just an FYI if you are getting disconnects while online, i fixed my issue by flashing my DD-WRT on my Linksys 150n back to the stock Linksys firmware. Online works like a charm now.

The physics is totally broken for some of the cars even on Tier 3. I get severe understeer with a R35 GT-R at < 30 mph on wide corners  Driving the veyron at the Nordschleife for the invitational is near impossible because apparently, a $1million car cannot handle properly at 25 mph on a corner even if you feather the throttle...it's like driving on ice.

I am also using the Momo FF wheel, and adjusting the sensitivity (I use 35% for steering and 40% for speed steering) helps a bit, but not entirely. If you own the car, you can also adjust the steering in the Tuning options towards oversteer...if you move the slider towards Oversteer, it atleast turns into corners it previously refused to.:p

All in all, the game had good potential, but EA screwed it up with the bugs and broken physics. Let's hope a patch fixes things.

I received my full full game yesterday together with a Logitech GT wheel and i must say...for the PC, this is really a good game. Not as much simulation as GTR Evo but very very enjoyable. Reminds me a little of Forza 2 or PGR 2 on the xbox 360. My favorite is still GT4 on the PS2 though as far as realistic driving goes. But for the PC, this fits the bill just fine.

I've been having a blast with this game. It has a nice balance ofvsim and arcade that I fel is perfect.

Count me in I loved the demo no wI have the full game, I got my key for 22.50.

By the way the mods have started to flow out now. See below it's a great little mod that turns down the aggression of the AI and also the best bit also drops the grip level of the game and makes it more enjoyable.

My first Need for Speed SHIFT mod - RaceDepartment Forums

I have seen some WIP shots of a engine wear & damage mod aswell which look promising. The engine mod so far seems pretty good as they have got the engine oveheating and the damage mod they have mamanged to get the wheels to come off etc when binning the cars.

The game is a little gem IMO as they have found out that it's basically a highly modified Gmotor2 engine, so looks promising as they have decrypted it and found tyre wear, wet tryes etc etc.

I tried the demo, and I have only played one race so far (London). I won the race, but the game wasn't as good as I thought. Maybe it was just that track, I don't know. It just seemed too easy to win. Maybe I should bump up the difficulty. I messed up a few times and was still able to pull away easily. I didn't care for the green / yellow / red arrows. I still like NFS III and High Stakes. This will sound weird but it was too "race-y" for me. The last few NFS's have been too much like The Fast & the Furious, and this one is trying to be too much of a racer. I just like it when I felt like I was in a (fairly) regular car on a normal road. I think I will hold out for Dirt 2.

You might like the new NFS:nitro in development. Not sure since I don't know too much about it. I believe thats more classic NFS as we have come to know it over the last 6 or 7 years.

To me I love shift because it's sort of a quasi cross between Grid, Forza, Gotham and GTR all with a little NFS flair thrown in. I really like it. Not too simy and not too arcadey.

Oh and just a FYI in this game if your not driving in cockpit mode you aren't doing the game any justice nor yourself for that matter. This game has the single best in game cockpit view and realism I have ever seen. Totally imersive.

Has anyone noticed very irritating lag spikes when crashing, or when other cars are crashing into each other nearby? It pretty much makes the game unplayable for me. When there is no crashing going on it runs smooth as butter. I suppose if there was SLI support for the game then it wouldnt be an issue.

This is great news to hear.

YES! That's one of the problems that I have, now that I've got it running. It doesn't help that the AI drives likes a fistful of assholes. They'll slow down for other cars all day long, but bump you whenever you get close to them. I haven't heard of a fix for the lag spikes yet.

A lot of things in this game are inconsistent. I wish the devs had another 6 months to iron out Shift, because it is a fun game to play. :(

The PS3 version already has a 38MB patch, so maybe there's something in the works for PC as well.

What OS are you running and what service pack? I downloaded the demo on Saturday and when I tried it, the screen went black with just a mouse cursor. But I couldn't even get as far as setting anything up so I guess it's not the same problem. I started downloading the latest nvidia drivers, but then something occurred to me. I checked the requirements and the game requires Vista with SP1. So I updated and after that it was OK.

You guys with no sli working need to either install beta drivers (I'm running 191.00) or install nvidias small sli profile patch or evga sli patch. That said with sli working properly fps is great but stuttering/hitching still occurs here and there. I definetly notice less stutter with 191.00 vs 190.64 but it's still there. I'm not sure if it needs a patch or a driver fix.

Thanks for this. I was unaware of 191.00 drivers. I will try this when I get home.
