The Elder Scrolls Online

Most infuriating issue in ESO are the public dungeons. Why they allow 30 bots to camp a boss 24/7 I'll never know. Most of the ones I've been in I have yet to see what the boss looks like as the bots have it dead in about 1/10 of a second. When I hear the bots attack, I cast an aoe and pray that I tagged the boss before he evaporates. If you wait to actually see the boss you'll never catch a glimpse of it before it is dead.

That has turned off everyone that plays with me. I don't know if Zenimax is waiting to make a show of mass banning bots, but they are losing customers in the meantime.

Someone on the ESO forums had a good idea for this. Just have a "boss cooldown" that resets to something like an hour once you kill a specific boss. With the way they use phasing, it should be quite simple to just phase you into an instance that has that boss respawn set to 60 minutes, instead of 1 minute or so like it is now.

But yeah, it's definitely one of the most annoying things in the game right now. The other one is bots teleporting to ore/rune/etc. locations, harvesting, then teleporting away. They're invisible when doing this as well, but you can see it sometimes when one of them gets stuck, and the bot name will pop up as you approach to harvest, but you won't see the char.

They don't even have to phase you, just set a timer for your account and simply don't show you the boss (like how when you do certain quests the npc leaves but other people are obviously still going there and talking to him, even though on your screen he is no longer there).

Why? All this work to not allow people to farm stuff? Since when is it a bad thing? Ban the bots, don't penalize legit play.

Not seeing the bosses as a "fix" would be a pain in the ass, they just need to design things better. If a boss shows up and people see it more than once, who cares?!? That feels less broken than the alternative.

Then they need to greatly up the boss mobs health/damage, because every single dungeon boss is so weak it presents 0 challenge, just a handful of people standing around that attack as soon as he spawns and he's gone in about .3 seconds.

yea that sounds lame. How are bots teleporting? Can all people teleport in this fashion or is this some kind of hack? You'd think if they were doing a teleport hack or cheat that they'd be easy to narrow in on and ban.

Which works great if you learn the behavior like I did. The majority of these dungeon's have quest bosses. So anyone that has the quest but doesn't get kill credit by tapping the boss will cause it to respawn within 15 secs or so. You can fill up an inventory awfully fast that way. :D It's a quest boss, not a group dungeon boss. It isn't a challenge even 1v1 and it isn't really suppose to be. They are really just a glorified elite mob if that.

There are very few teleport bots around. They nipped that in the bud. At least where I am at. Even the normal bots they have started banning like crazy. It's been all over reddit today. They are starting to get a handle on it finally.

In the area I'm playing in the bots take all of the round shaped enchanting materials. I'll run up to one and it will instantly disappear before my eyes. This happens over and over and over again. It's infuriating and they teleport to other crafting materials just as fast. You never see them in route to the material, and that makes you angry about the the time you spent on foot running like a madman to grab it.

I liken trying to farm with a bot plague competing against you to a child begging for a lollipop and an adult keeps lifting their hand higher every time the child reaches up from their tippy toes. Eventually the child says "Fuck it" and leaves adult to play by their damn self.

Didn't see a single group of bots last night in any of the A'likr and Bangkorai public dungeons I went into. Haven't seen a teleporter bot in about a week. They were pretty rampant for a while but they apparently either banned them or closed off that exploit pretty quick.

I've never seen a teleporter bot, level 40 now. What you probably see is people just exploiting how the megaserver works to get more boss kills. For example, you can kill a boss, loot it, log out (wait 10 seconds), log back in. Most of the time you will be in a different 'instance' of the same dungeon, and that boss will be on a quicker timer since you just killed the last one. This is also a handy way to get around all sorts of quest and spawn bugs that might affect a boss or object in one instance but not all of them.

What players at the first instance see is you just 'disappear' but you logged out, and reappear in another copy of the instance.

90% of the time that isn't a bot. That is someone in a different phase of the zone than you.

Anecdotal "well I never saw a bot" experiences are irrelevant, it's no longer a debate when the developer acknowledges they're rampant.

First and foremost, please know that we are doing everything we can to combat the gold spammers and bots – especially ones that "camp" dungeon bosses – that you see in game. I play the game every day; I see them too, and yes, they drive me crazy. We have had a daily running battle with them ever since the game launched – moving them from global chat, to in-game email, to creating bogus guilds and inviting players – and we continue to take measures to keep them away from players, even when it isn't always apparent that we are. Most of the battle has been on the back end of the game – we regularly ban accounts involved in spam and bot activity – our teams are working on better systems to identify those accounts and characters that are doing black market activities, and we're also working on some game feature refinement to make it harder for them to acquire gold in the first place. Fighting black market activity like gold selling spam and farming bots is a marathon, not a sprint, but we will do whatever we can to reduce their impact on the game.

Of course it's relevant, don't be like that. Saying you never saw a bot doesn't mean there aren't bots. In the same way, when cagey says he has network issues, that doesn't mean the entire game has network issues. Both are relevant.

No bots in the game.

Notice how it advertises weapon skill and C-R-A-F-T-I-N-G skill. Wonder where they get the crafting skill materials from?????

I know I just seem mean or ornery to some of you. But it just occurs to me that some people can go through life and have a totally different experience from others. How this happens I'll never know. But please don't discount what people say as heresy or exaggerations. That Angry Joe video was spot on and showed just a small taste of the issues that the game has. I wish we all had the same experience in The Elder Scrolls Online.

Teleporter bots travel underground and thus are invisible to the player base. That's to keep them from having to fight mobs to make gathering easier. This has been going on in many MMO's including the venerable World of Warcraft. Most players never notice them until you're trying to gather something and suddenly you catch a glimpse of their character for a fleeting second. This allows them to fly under the ban radar as most of us aren't fast enough to document the character's name before it's across the map.

I was thinking the exact same thing until I saw one a few for a second and they had names like oijpadasgnpoir or asmbrtjndfgl. If real players name themselves in that manner then I apologize to the bots that I reported. I hope they don't lose their accounts.

Who's discounting your issues Cagey?? All I see is

"I'm having problems"

"Well I'm not"

It's obvious that there is a disconnect in people that are experiencing these issues and people that aren't. I'll be the bigger man and leave this thread alone. Obviously I'm the only person that sees these issues as lore and immersion breaking. I guess I go into MMOs for the story more than the action.

So when I level to 14 and have yet to see a single "boss" or "elite" in a public dungeon because it has disappeared in 0.3 seconds to the bot scourge, then it upsets me as it broke the story that the game designer was trying to tell me. In the Angry Joe video when he rolls up to the dungeon and there are 20 dead elite spiders on their backs it was obviously frustrating for him also.

I realize now that these issues don't pertain to you'll. So thus I leave this thread alone.

Adios!

Cagey,
You should know, having now been on both sides of it: Ignorance is bliss, if you point it out the issues you're an asshole, and ostracized by the ignorant.

You're right, there's no reason for anyone to be posting about their good experiences with this game.

Nice strawman. My point wasn't about personal experiences being relevant/irrelevant to a discussion about the game. The point was that statements like "I've never seen a bot" is irrelevant to the issue of whether or not they exist and how much of a problem they are -- because the developer has already acknowledged they're problematic and widespread, to the extent that 85% of complaints to customer support is about bots and spammers. http://www.vg247.com/2014/04/23/eld...omer-tickets-attributed-to-bots-and-spammers/

Oh grumpy child, nobody is saying the bots aren't an issue. They're just not an issue for some.

I never said there werent bots. I said its getting better. If you say it isnt then you havent been playing or your a troll. If you compare the game through the weeks it has gotten better. I farmed a dungeon for 3 hous today. Not one not was in there.

Cagey's been stuck in a lower level area, perhaps the bots are getting to a certain point level wise where farming mats becomes profitable, then simply never getting any higher level wise?

Just a theory.

I know I just seem mean or ornery to some of you. But it just occurs to me that some people can go through life and have a totally different experience from others. How this happens I'll never know.

Life isn't about what happens to you, it's about how you react to it.
And always remember opinions are like assholes.

As for ESO people have different tolerance for bugs and people have different reactions to the ones they experience. When I get a bug or have a botting issue, I usually just skip over some content and get on with enjoying what I like. If these issues were causing me to not like the game I would stop playing and move on, not join a crusade to bring everyone with me and tarnish the game. --Not pointing fingers or anything I just see a lot of it.

When it comes to places like this thread or /r/elderscrollsonline you attract a lot on both ends of the spectrum and it's difficult for guys like me who just genuinely enjoy playing the game and enjoy discussing it with others during my downtime.

Very well said

That is why I specified the areas I was in last night. Still those areas would routinely have at least 5 bots at each boss. Last night there were none. Low level spam bots are still around though.

I really feel like I'm wasting my time white knighting the game. I feel bad for Cagey but he hasn't liked the game since it was in beta. All he has done is complain and I would to if I had his issues. I feel bad because he is really plagued by issues. Kinda like having sex with a call girl and wearing a condom and still getting gonosyphilherpaloids from the encounter. Every thing that can go wrong has gone wrong with Cagey's ESO experience but it is non stop complaining so when someone comes in and goes "See that is why I stayed away from the game" or "I knew this game is going to tank hard, I can't wait for it" I feel compelled to say that isn't the norm.

I mean you got guys who haven't even played the game trolling the internet for the worst of the worst and posting it here to prove a point yet discounting all the positive experiences many of us are having. Why? I have no clue. Maybe Matt Firor killed their easter bunny or something but the game is actually quite good. Perhaps I'll bust out a review with the positives and negatives and not just a tip of the cap to the negatives, because there a quite a few but none of which I would consider game breaking. Sheesh, remember WoW? You couldn't play for the first month on some servers and falling through the world in Tarran Mill PvP was quite commonplace. Guess we're all a little more picky, but literally, ESO is perhaps the best MMO I've played in a decade, if not the best its in the top 5 of all time IMO and has had perhaps the top 1 or 2 smoothest launches in MMO history. Rift may have it beat, that was pretty smooth.

But it isn't for everyone and if you don't like it that is cool. PC gaming has a plethora of great games out and coming soon so it is really an excellent time to be a PC gamer. I guess my thing is I don't understand the mindset of just sitting in a game thread and shitting all over it. I just voice my complaints and move on. Perhaps that is what I should do with the thread. No one new is coming in it and asking how the game is.

Frankly, I am having a fun time playing it. Leveling could be faster but meh, it's still ok. I haven't run into any major bugs yet. Graphics are fine to me - even the horses that some people like to rag on.

One argument that people have regarding public dungeons - they say it increases player interaction. I say it does the opposite. I don't need to group to do a dungeon. I just follow the people already there without having to say anything. There are a few dungeons that are group instanced that you need to group on though. I'm surprised they aren't all like that.

This is totally over the top. I have seen a few disappearing nodes like you are talking about, but to say that there is bot plague farming materials is BS. I have been reading a lot of this thread, and you might be having problems and sorry to hear that, but stop making them sound worse than they are.

You have been complaining about it in the beta, and complaining about it since launch. You don't like the game and are having problems with it. Just uninstall it and move on.

That's because people keep looking at them like they are a group instanced dungeon. They aren't meant to be. They are meant to be a narrative piece as a quest objective. If people approached them from that view point there would be fewer complaints.

Have Zenimax PayPall me $80 and I'll stop bashing the buggy mess.

A random fucking squirrel has a voice budget. Hahaha classic. Glad he didn't play WoW when it came out. Dude probably would have went and had a stroke.

He mentions wow, and btw "Francias" is just a character he does, he's not like that in real life.

But that's your fault, you have complained about this game all through beta and still bought it. If a game gave me that many issues in Beta I wouldn't have spent any money on it or at least waited a month or two to see would the bugs be fixed/improved upon.

Gonna have to agree with this. You not only bought into the hype, but also went ahead and got the more expensive version for the meaningless "free" extras...

I have to agree with this also. There was a rather large window in there that you could of gotten a refund.
